Grand Finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019

Dept. of Business Administration-MBA organized “Sahyadri Whiz-Quiz 2019', a quiz competition for undergraduates in the Sahyadri Campus. Around 9,000 students participated in the college level quiz, out of which 950 students from selected 48 colleges in the district of Mangalore, Udupi, Kodagu, Karwar, Belgaum, Shimoga, Hassan, Chikmagalur and Kasargod were at the campus for the Grand Finale of the 5th edition of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz.

Mrs. Iris Kunder Maben, an IT and Horticulturist from Mumbai along with Ms. Kavya Gatty, a Senior Officer-Recruitment at TESCO, Bengaluru who is also an alumna of Sahyadri MBA graced the event as Chief Guest & Guest of Honour respectively marking the importance of International Women’s Day.

Prof. Girish M, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019 welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA introduced Sahyadri and the Dept. of Business Administration to the gathering. She also gave the bird’s eye view of the flagship event Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2019.

During the inaugural address, Mrs. Iris Kunder Maben spoke about women empowerment and urged each one to never compromise on their dreams and expectations and aim to be financially independent. She shared her journey of life and hoped that it would inspire the young minds.

Ms. Kavya Gatty, spoke about her life at Sahyadri and how the challenges and hard work during her two years of study shaped her future. She further urged students to take up opportunities that come their way to showcase their talent. To talk about women empowerment, she highlighted the journey of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA who was her mentor. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal in his Presidential address conveyed that Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is one of the forums to develop their knowledge and skills and should capitalize the opportunity available to them.

Prof. Ramesh K G, coordinator of the event gave away the vote of thanks. Mr. Reese Mathews, Chief Manager, Canara Bank, Bendoorwell, Mangaluru was the Quiz Master. Immediately after the formal function, the first preliminary round was held. Out of 315 teams of 3 each, 150 teams qualified to the second preliminary round. Finally 6 teams were selected for the Grand Finale.

Mr. Jayaraj Rai, Chairman, Shri Ramakrishna Credit Co-operative Society and Ms. Vidya Shenoy, Head-Talent Acquisition, Manipal Technologies Ltd felicitated the winners during the Valedictory Ceremony. Mahesh College of Commerce & Management, Mangaluru won 1st prize with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 25,000, Dept. Of Commerce, Manipal won 2nd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, SDM Ujire won 3rd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Director-Research invited to chair session in Bio Entrepreneurship Summit

Dr. S. Manjappa, Director-Research was invited to chair the opening session along with Dr. Rajkumar Joshi, Scientist, Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology at the Bio Entrepreneurship Summit held at Davengere.

The summit was jointly organised by Department of Biotechnology, Bapuji Institute of Engineering & Technology, and SS Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Davengere. The summit is supported by Karnataka Information Technology Services (KITS-GOK), Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA-GOK), Innovate Karnataka, K-Tech, Department of Science & Technology (DST-GoI), Society of Cytologists and Geneticists, India, VTU, ISTE and SSIMS. Leading bio-entrepreneurs, managing directors and founders of young bio-startups presented their topics in the summit.

Campus Recruitment Drive

• CirrusLabs
CirrusLabs conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the 2019 batch outgoing engineering students from Computer Science, Information Science and Electronics & Communication Engineering. A three member team comprising of Ms. Meenaz Shariff, Director; Ms. Priyanka, HR; and Mr. Tejas Shetty, Technical Review; were at the campus to facilitate the recruitment process.
A total of 169 students from various colleges participated in the drive and the results are awaited.


• HireMee
As a part of campus recruitment drive, HireMee visited Sahyadri and conducted an online test for the 2019 Batch engineering students. A total of 16 students took up the test and the results are awaited.

Mrs. Ronnie Merin George is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. She has 5 years of industrial experience as a software engineer as well as 5 years of teaching experience. During her tenure with various software companies, she got opportunities to develop projects using Java related databases for various clients like Ladbrokes Online Betting Agency, and Deurag Insurance Company. Her area of expertise includes Java, J2EE and Machine Learning. She did her B.Tech from MG University, Kottayam and M.Tech from VTU, Belagavi.

Mentees Details:
• Chinmay is from Puttur. She pursued her high school from St. Victor’s Girls High School, and PUC from Ambika PU College, Puttur. She had won first place in Dual Mode Vehicle Challenge in the event “APOGEE-2018” conducted by BITS Pilani, Rajasthan and also won first place for an image processing project in the event “ENGINEER” conducted by NITK, Suratkal. Her hobbies include singing and dancing. She aspires to become a successful software engineer and also wants to pursue higher studies.
• Priyanka is from Sullia. She pursued her high school from Ganapathy English Medium School, and PUC from Canara PU College, Mangaluru. She has won second place in water propulsion in the event “ADVITIYA” conducted by IIT, Roopar. She has participated in the event “KSHITIJ” conducted by IIT, Kharagpur. Her hobby is listening to music. She aspires to become a successful software engineer.
• Swathi Acharya is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from Vidyadayinu English Medium School and PUC from Govinda Dasa PU College, Mangaluru. She participated in “CYBORG” event in IIT, Roorke. Her hobbies are reading novels, playing guitar and gardening. She aspires to become a software engineer and also wants to pursue higher studies. • Harshith H.D. is from Madikeri. He pursued his high school from Sri Morarji Desai Residential School, Basavanahalli and PUC from Sri Morarji Desai PU College, Madapura. His hobbies include reading, and playing cricket & table tennis. He aspires to become a successful software engineer.
• Abhijna H.N. is from Thirthahali. She pursued her high school from Sevabharathi Kannada School, Thirthahali and PUC from Jnanasudha PUC, Karkala. Her hobbies include playing chess and tennis. She participated in science exhibition conducted by Manipal Academy and secured second prize during her 12th standard. She has participated in many chess competitions and won prizes. She desires to start a software company in some rural area.
• Pradhyumna R. Gowda is from Dharmasthala. He pursued his high school from SDM English Medium School, and PUC from SDM PUC, Ujire. His hobbies include playing chess, football and listening to music. He aspires to become a successful software engineer.
• Sumant Suresh is from Kumta. He pursued his high school from CVSK High School, and PUC from Saraswathi PUC, Kumta. His hobbies include swimming, dancing and travelling across India. During his school days, he has participated in state level swimming. He wants to start a software company in some rural area.
