Sahyadrians Recruited by Ribbon Communications

ribbon Ms. Ghana N Shetty, Ms. Tanvi Shetty and Ms. Moulya K N from the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Ms. Deepika B R from the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering have been recruited by Ribbon Communications with a Package of Rs.6.50 Lakhs to 7 Lakhs Per Annum in the Recruitment Drive held on 14th Feb’2020.

Grand Finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2020

quiz quiz Dept. of Business Administration-MBA organized ‘Sahyadri Whiz-Quiz 2020', a quiz competition for undergraduates in the campus. Around 9,000 students participated in the college level quiz, out of which 990 students from selected 45 colleges in Mangaluru, Udupi, Kodagu, Karwar, Belagavi, Uttara Kannada and Kasargod were at the campus for the Grand Finale of the 6th edition of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz.
Mr. Praveen Kamath Kumbla, General Manager & HR Head, Global Delivery and Enablement, Wipro Limited, was the Chief Guest for the programme and Mr. Prakyath Bhandary, Associate-People & Culture Team, Grant Thornton LLP, Bengaluru was the Alumni Guest.
Prof. Padmanabha B, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2020 welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA gave the introductory remarks.
quiz During the inaugural address, Mr. Praveen Kamath Kumbla spoke about how students should gear up and add skills to their profile in order to enter into an extremely competitive market. He emphasized on acquiring Language skills – Portuguese & Spanish and also Cultural Skills and embrace the change in the global market. He appreciated Sahyadri for its Start-Up culture and mentioned that students with entrepreneurial mindset are highly preferred.
quiz After Unveiling the Trophies, Mr. Prakyath Bhandary, spoke about his life at Sahyadri and how the institution shaped his future. He further urged students to take up opportunities that come their way to showcase their talent. He was delighted to recall his days of being the organizing committee member of the 1st edition of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz.
Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal in his Presidential address conveyed that Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is one of the forums to develop the knowledge and skills and students should capitalize the opportunity available to them.
Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning, gave the vote of thanks.
Mr. Rakshith Shetty, CEO-Hakuna Matata, Bengaluru, was the Quiz Master.
quiz Immediately after the formal function, the first preliminary round was held. A total of 150 teams qualified to the second preliminary round. Finally 6 teams were selected for the Grand Finale.
Mr. Divakar Kadri, Chairman of NIPM, Mangaluru Chapter & General Manager of Cardolite, Mangaluru felicitated the winners during the Concluding Ceremony.

The following teams emerged as winners:

• Team comprising of Skandakrishna, Trishul M V & Anurag from Mangalore Academy of Professional Studies (MAPS), Mangaluru, won 1st prize with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 25,000;
• Sumanth K, Srirama & Vargise Thomas – Team from SDM College (Autonomous), Ujire, won 2nd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000;
• Finally, the Team from Dr NSAM First Grade College, Nitte comprising of Gagan V Palimar, K Goutham & Rhea Menezes won 3rd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Chairman delivers a Talk - “An Insight on Future of Education Scenario”

chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman recently attended “Eisenhower Fellowships Global Conference – The Future of Education”, at Columbia, USA, where he interacted with eminent educationists and scientists of various streams on upcoming trends in education system.
In this context, Mr. Bhandary addressed the Sahyadri faculty members on 5th March 2020 and shared his experience about the summarized view of experts and outcomes of the Global Conference.
Some of the key takeaways of his address are as follows:
• An upcoming trend would be more Hands-on with Innovative Skills and Higher Education will henceforth be only research oriented.
• K-12 Education System is becoming much prevalent in the education system. K-12 is a program that covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for employment and entrepreneurship.
• Innovative companies will give more prominence to innovative skills than the academic skills.
• Micro-Bachelor degrees along with traditional degree will attain more value in future.
• Along with a Traditional degree, an opportunity to obtain Micro-Masters have been introduced and delivered by various prestigious universities like Harvard University, Berkeley University of California, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This is widely accepted by the employers.
• Underlying principle of the education system is Student-Faculty connection that should be both heart-to-heart (Cordial) and Mind-to-mind (Intellectual).
• A major turmoil is expected in the traditional education system by Year 2030, as Innovative Education System would be evolving soon. • All human services including teaching is expected to be replaced by Artificial Intelligence and Robotics like Alexa - a Virtual Assistant AI Technology developed by Amazon.

Faculty of the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering Presents a Paper at the 3rd International Conference on Innovative Computing and Communication (ICICC) 2020

paper Prof. Janardhana D R of the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering presented a Paper on “Abusive Comments Classification in Social Media using Neural Networks” at the 3rd International Conference on Innovative Computing and Communication (ICICC) 2020, held in association with Springer at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi.
International Conference on Innovative Computing and Communication (ICICC-2020) is organised with the objective of bringing together innovative scientists, professors, research scholars, students and industrial experts in the field of Computing and Communication to a common forum.

Sahyadri Boys’ Team achieves in VTU Inter Collegiate Mangaluru Zone Volleyball Tournament organised by VCET, Puttur

volybal Sahyadri Boys’ Volleyball Team participated in the VTU Inter-collegiate Mangaluru Zone Volleyball Tournament organized by VCET, Puttur during 5th and 6th March’2020. Fifteen teams from various colleges of Mangaluru Zone participated. Sahyadri Boys’ Team secured the Third Place.

Introduction of the Mentor:

Dr. K.Vidyavathi is a Professor in the Dept. Business Administration-MBA. She has done her PG, M.Phil and Ph.D in Economics from Bangalore University on regular course. She is having 25 years of rich experience in research (excluding Ph.D) and 15 years of PG teaching experience. She has completed two Research projects- the first one, a major Research Project “Opportunities and Challenges for Women in Information Technology Enabled Services Sector” funded by ICSSR, New Delhi. The second one, a minor Research Project “Group Entrepreneurship among Women - A Study of SKDRDP in Dakshina Kannada District” funded by UGC, SWRO, Bengaluru.She is a Ph.D Guide and under her guidance, two students are awarded Ph.D from VTU, Belagavi.

Dhanush Shetty is from Mulki. He pursued his PUC from S.D.P.T Pre-university College and B.Com from S.D.P.T.F.G College, Kateel. His hobbies are playing badminton and cricket.
S V Ganesh is from Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada. He pursued his PUC from The New English Pre University College, Bhatkal and BBA from Shree Guru Sudhindra BBA College, Bhatkal. His hobbies are biking and playing cricket & volleyball.
Prajwal Shetty is from Mangaluru. He pursued his PUC and B.Com from Canara College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are playing cricket.
Akshatha Rao K L is from Mangaluru. She pursued her PUC and B.Com from Canara College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are dancing.
Brijesh Naik is from Vitla. He pursued his PUC and B.Com from Vivekananda College, Puttur. His hobbies are photography.
Akshay T R is from Kodagu. He pursued his PUC and B.Com from Canara College, Mangaluru. His hobby is story-telling. He tells stories based on his past experience.
Ananya Bhat D is from Mangaluru. She pursued her PUC from St. Aloysius PU College and B.Com from St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru. Her hobbies are dancing and spending time with animals
