In a series of dept-wise Student Project Programs of Sahyadri that are sponsored by KSCST, Civil Engineering Dept. has bagged 06 Student Projects Grants from KSCST, Govt. of Karnataka, including one Inter-disciplinary Project between Civil and Mechanical Engineering.
Every year Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) conducts the Student Project Programme (SPP) for providing financial and academic support to the Final Year students of B.E, M.Tech, M.Sc and MBA in Karnataka state.

A Fifty-Member MBA Team visits Biofuel Park, Hassan for Industry-Academia Connect

bio-fuel A Fifty-Member Team of MBA Department comprising of Second Semester Students alongwith Dr. Vidyavathi visited Biofuel Park, Madenur, Hassan.
This Biofuel Park was set up by the Dept. of Forestry & Environmental Sciences and University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bengaluru with the following objectives:
• To develop a strategy for successful biofuel program;
• To develop and provide technology and model for production of bio fuels across the state;
• To motivate farming and other sectors to take lead roles;
• To replicate practices and programs to motivate community participation on a large scale;
• To adopt appropriate sustainable and paths to achieve the goals.
The MBA Team visited the Production Unit where biodiesel is extracted from non-edible seeds such as Pongamia, Neem, Mahua, Simatouba etc. The students interacted with the Project Co-ordinator and Research Associate Dr. Haleshi. Ms. Harshitha gave a presentation about the need for biofuels and how they are derived from biomass of plants or of animal origin.
This Industry visit has helped the students to better identify their prospective areas of work and enhance interpersonal skills. They are now more aware of industry practices and regulations.

Lab Instructors attend a Two-day VTU TEQIP CELL Training Program

teqipteqipLab Instructors Mr. Likhith Kumar, Ms. Pramila Kumari M, Ms. Deeksha and Ms. Soumya from the Dept. of Electronics & Communication attend a TEQIP 1.3 Sponsored Two-day VTU TEQIP CELL Training Program for Lab Instructors at St. Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangaluru, during 6th to 7th March’2020
The Day-One began with a training program on Safety Precaution and Handling of Lab Equipment, Installation of Hardware & Software and their hands-on experience. It also included Solid Waste Management Challenges and Opportunities.

Faculty members attend Seminar on “Insight -2020”, Women’s Wellbeing at Lions Seva Mandir, Mangaluru.

insight Ms. Shreelatha U, Academic Administrative Officer; Prof. Sunita Priya D’Silva, Dept. of Mathematics; and Prof. Akshaya Shetty, Dept. of Humanities attended a Seminar on “Insight -2020” Women’s Wellbeing.
The seminar was organized by Lions International, Lions Club Mangalore and New Voices, on 9th March 2020, in commemoration of International Women’s Day at Lions Seva Mandir, Mangaluru. It was inaugurated by Lion Anita Gomes, First Lady of the District and Lion Ronald Gomes, District Governor - District 317D.
Three sessions were conducted during the seminar by Resource Persons who are top experts in various domains of Women’s wellbeing.
1. ‘Women & Health’ by Dr. Priya Ballal, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Mangaluru;
2. ‘Women & Mental Health’ by Dr. Rameela Shekhar, a Mental Health Professional;
3. ‘Women and their Rights’, by Ms. Kavita, Advocate, Mangaluru.
Ms. Gayathri Nayak, District Urban Development Officer, spoke about the steps that need to be taken by the organizations for Women Empowerment. Dr. Geethaprakash, First Vice-District Governor and Mr. Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Second Vice-District Governor, also spoke on the occasion.

Faculty from the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering takes a Pledge to donate his Organs after his Lifetime

vasudev-rao Prof. Vasudeva Rao from the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering has taken the Pledge to donate his organs after his lifetime. Under the able guidance and supervision of Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counselor, he took this decision which could save a life.
Prof. Rao has registered his name as a donor in the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO).
Sahyadri applauds his generous and heroic gesture.
