Body – Mind Balance and Health for better online class learning

Body_Mind_Balance COVID-19 has compelled us to accept the things that were considered to be rare as the new normal. Corona Pandemic has impacted all sectors equally, and the most hit by this is the educational sector. The sudden shift from classroom teaching to the online mode has caused many new problems to emerge be it technical issues, adapting to new methods of teaching, various Psychological issues and also physical problems faced by students, as well as, the teacher due to the continuous use of online class.
Physical problems due to continuous classes
The human body has its limitations and also it requires time and practice to adjust and adapt to the new conditions that we may put it through. The continuous exposure to the online classes has resulted in complaints of Physical pain and fatigue.
·Physical fatigue
Many teachers and student have complaints of tiredness and reduced motivation for physical activities during and after the online sessions. They feel heaviness in the head and feeling of energy drain in the body. Absence of PT period or outdoor games period is the reason for this. The presence of games period in the conventional school setting used to make the students take part in the activities but the new online methods doesn’t have that provision
·Physical Pain
Body pain is another major issue that has troubled both the students and the teachers. Complains of neck pain, back pain, headaches, corporal tendon sprain, numbness of the limbs and straining of the eyes. Wrong and unhealthy postures the students use while attending the classes can result greatly in causing bodily pain. People with pre-existing conditions of sinusitis and migraine suffer greatly during online classes as it can trigger the pain.
·Insomnia, Excessive sleep and loss of appetite
Many students have reported that they have faced issues in their sleep and food habits. Some students experience loss of appetite which can be due to decreased physical movement and they tend to feel sleepy all the time with baggy eyes and dark circles. The students complain of not feeling motivated to engage themselves even in their daily activities.
·Physical Environment
Studies require a comfortable physical environment. Not all students have the privilege of getting comfortable. Sometimes, home environments can have a lot of distractions that can force the students, as well as, the teachers to put more effort for the class than usually required which can lead to stress, both physically and physically.
What do the students need to do?
There are no shortcuts for keeping a healthy body. The best way to compensate for the lack of physical activities and rest is by proper planning of the time available for healthy physical activity.
·Yoga and Pranayama
The most original and natural method of keeping your body and mind is by practising Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation. It doesn’t need to be done for hours together; a minimum of 15 minutes of practice can do wonders to your health.
·Proper diet and hydration
Keeping a light diet rich in fluid content can help you through you day to be alert and active. Fruit rich diet and adequate water intake can help maintain proper balance in the body. Keep a set of regular intervals where you can take light snacks.
·Taking a break in regular intervals
If a person is continually on the computer for, let say, 40 minutes, 5 minutes of break before the next session can help relax your body. The students can take this time to do some stretching and flexing. They must step away from their chair and move around. A simple massage to the eyes can help refresh.
·Step out and take some fresh air
The parents must encourage their children to leave the room and get out for some fresh air. They can be sent to the nearby market with proper precaution just to get some relaxation. A simple stroll on the garden or terrace will also help.
·Stay away from gadgets
The students and teacher however will be spending a major chunk of their time in Gadgets, so staying away from it can help a lot to rejuvenate the body and mind. Be offline whenever you have no important task to be completed online. A lot of study materials are sent through soft copies like PPT and PDF notes. It is better to encourage the habit of physically written notes to help practise hand movement and improve circulation in the hands.
Students and teachers must prioritize their task and balance between the daily classes and proper physical activities that can help improve their health. As the saying goes, “A sound mind in a sound body,” only when both your mind and body are in harmony only then can we say that we are truly healthy.
