Seventh College Day Celebrated

The Seventh College Day Celebrations was inaugurated by Dr. N.A. Jnanesh, Member, Executive Council, VTU, Belgaum and Principal, KVG College of Engineering, Sullia. In his inaugural speech, he appreciated the development and the infrastructure of the college. In a short span of seven years there has been tremendous growth, he said and congratulated the management and Sahyadri team. He briefed the importance of research in education. He congratulated all the achievers on their outstanding performance during the year. He also emphasized the importance of technical education and evolution of applied sciences. He urged the student community to leverage the Exposure, Experience, Expertise and Excellence which would enable them to meet the expectations of the society and industry.

Dr. N.A. Jnanesh obtained his ME degree from the Karnataka University, Dharwad and his doctoral degree from Mangalore University. He is well travelled and has attended and presented papers in national and international seminars and conferences. Thirty undergraduate and ten postgraduate projects and two research candidates have been successfully guided by him.

Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice-Principal, delivered the presidential address and expressed his happiness on the occasion. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean Academic presented the annual report of the college. The heads of various councils presented their reports. Dr. A. P. Achar, Director MBA welcomed the gathering. Mr. Mohanjith Marla, Student Council Head, spoke on the role of student council. The Academic Toppers, Best Outgoing Students of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses and The Council Heads for the year 2013-14 were felicitated.

Fun-filled innovative games were held in the Campus. It was followed by a cultural extravaganza by the students of the college. Members of the press and media, parents, and well-wishers graced the occasion.

“Manthana” (Our Walk towards Change) an association of likeminded Sahyadrians of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Adyar, Mangalore, through its societal activities stood as a role model for the youth.

Summer Camp: Sambhrama-2014

Sambhrama-2014; a four-day summer camp for school children organized by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was flagged off at Holy Family Church School, Meremajal, by the lighting of the lamp. Mrs. Vrinda, Gramapanchayat President, Meremajal, Fr. James, Coordinator, Holy Family Church, Meremajal, Sister Elizabeth, Principal, Holy Family Church School, Mrs. Revathi, Headmistress, Abettu Govt. School, Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator, and Mrs. Shreelatha U. A., AAO, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management graced the occasion. The resource persons, Mr. Ramesh K.G., Assistant Professor-SG, Department of Business Administration, Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, Mrs. Ranjitha B. Assistant Professor, Department of English, Ms. Raksha, Placement in-charge and Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, were also present during the function.

Sambhrama – 2014 was a learning experience not only for the children of Meramajal but also to the resource persons and volunteers of the college, who were fortunate to see their dream of reliving their childhood come true. Sixty-two students from Government Primary Schools of Meramajal participated in the Summer Camp and enjoyed the fun filled learning process which taught them Craft, Action songs, Drawing, Painting, Kite Making, Music, Dance, Mime, Drama and few soft skills.

On the fourth and final day of the Summer Camp, students were taken on a picnic to the Sahyadri campus. The valedictory program began with a dance ‘Bum Bum Bole…’ by the kids, the resource persons and few volunteers dressed in various Cartoon Characters. The events of the Valedictory program such as Master of Ceremony, Prayer Song, Feedback, and Vote of Thanks was conducted by the children.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, delivered the presidential address. He wished all the children a bright future. The same spirit, curiosity, interest, and creativity should continue throughout their life, he added. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean Academic, narrated a story and blessed them. Mrs. Vrinda, President, Grama Panchayat, Meremajal, and Mrs. Revathi, Head Mistress, Abbettu School, addressed the gathering. The day witnessed colorful, mind-blowing performance by the five groups of the camp – Mallige, Gulabi, Sevanthige, Sampige and Dasavala. Few faculty members, non teaching staff, parents and students were present on the occasion. Many students acted as volunteers to facilitate the smooth running of the Summer Camp. Faculty members came forward to sponsor lunch, juice, books, and pens during the entire four days of the camp.

Electoral Awareness Programme by ‘Manthana’

‘Manthana’ performed a play act ‘Matha Jagrathi’ and distributed stickers and posters in Meramajal, Farangipete, B.C. Road and Sahyadri college entrance and students also stuck posters on the vehicles at the Toll Booth in Brahmarakotlu. Students sang songs like ‘Kurigalu Sir Kurigalu’, ‘Kurudu Kanchana Kuniyuthalithu’, ‘Otu Madadavaru Yaravre?’, and created awareness among people about the importance of vote and gave them information of NOTA (None of the above); option included in the election by the Supreme Court.

The team comprised of Mr. Naveen Pilar, Mrs. Ranjitha, Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Ms. Aurin Madtha, Mr. Vidya Shankar Coordinators, ‘Manthana’ and Bhavya, Spoorthi, Prajna Bhandary, Neeriksha, Anusha, Sambhav, Hezal Melita, Slifa, Anirudh, Rakshitha, Veekshitha, Students of Semester I.

Throughout the journey students were announcing and shouting slogans. They were also singing patriotic songs.

The district health officer Dr. Shiv Kumar appreciated the students’ effort. “The management, the teachers and the students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, who have joined their hands with the Government will be the role model for the rest”, he added and also provided some posters and stickers for this purpose and supported the students.

World Earth Day

In order to help promote the ‘World Earth Day’, ‘Manthana’ organized an oath taking and awareness programme with the visual presentation, poster making and group discussions in the campus.

Ms. Aurin Madtha, Co ordinator addressed the students of the college and conducted activities like poster making and group discussion. Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Co ordinator, made students to pledge to do take whatever little they can to do to help the planet.

The team not only stuck ‘World Earth Day’ posters in the campus but also sent group mails to the faculty members and the students of the college and appealed to turn off all electrical appliances at their home from 7 P.M to 8 P.M to save power and to save Mother Earth for our better future. The aim of celebrating the world earth day is to inspire the public for making better earth environment.

JEE (Main) - 2014 in Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2014, a computer-based online test. A total of 187 candidates from all over the country sat for the exam.

JEE is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the basic subjects like Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. The JEE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India. It is a great honour for Sahyadri to conduct an exam of this kind.




           

Local Inspection Committee Visits Sahyadri

A five member team of VTU Local Inspection Committee (LIC) visited the college. They visited various departments and expressed satisfaction and happiness with regard to the progress made by the institute and the infrastructure provided. They appreciated the all round development of the college in a very short span of time in Academics, Research, Sports and Cultural arena.

The team has already worked on aerial surveillance, unmanned aerial vehicles and also RC planes to study their behavior. Blood Donation Camp

Thxe Department of Business Administration, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tejaswini Hospital, Mangalore, organised a Blood Donation Camp in the Campus. Dr. Suchitra Shetty, Pathologist, Tejaswini Hospital, inaugurated the Camp in the Sahyadri Auditorium. Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal, Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean-Academics and Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, were present during the inaugural function. Dr. Suchitra Shetty spoke about the benefits of blood donation. 198 donors came forward to donate blood.

Two-day Bridge Course for SSLC Students

“We are reaping the fruits of science from morning to evening”, said Mrs. Ramaa Bhandary, Head Mistress of SLNP High School, Panemangalore. She was addressing the students after inaugurating the two-day Bridge Course conducted for SSLC students. She stressed the importance of science at every stage of one’s life. She said that it was her wish that someone from the group would contribute something special like Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Another Chief Guest, Mrs. Vidya Shetty, Head Mistress of BEST English Medium School, B. C. Road urged the students to assimilate good values from the teachers.

The function was presided over by Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. He advised the students to enjoy the process of learning in their student life. Further, he told the students to ignore the comments people make and turn a deaf ear towards them, and only then greater heights in life can be reached. He wished the students a fruitful two days stay in Sahyadri.

Mr. Ananth Prabhu engaged the session on “Course options in Science stream of PUC”. Later, Mr. Johnson and his team gave a mesmerizing presentation of their Robotic & Aircraft Model. More than 200 students from different High Schools attended the programme. An inter-school Cricket Match for boys and Throwball matches for the girls was conducted in the afternoon by Mrs. Nithisha Rodrigues, Director of Physical Education and her team.

The second day of the Bridge Course for SSLC students began with the exhilarating demonstration of Robotic & Aircraft Models by Mr. Johnson and his team. The students were offered a thrilling air display of RC Planes. They were provided valuable tips on making science models. Students were apprised of the unique opportunities provided at Sahyadri like participating in Science Conclave at IIIT – A, science model contests, paper presentation contests etc.

In the next session, Mr. Naveen S. A. Principal, Sahyadri P. U. College provided the students a clear-cut picture of PUC Science syllabi and offered an introduction to PCMB and PCMC courses. He illustrated the right approach needed to fare well in the exams.

Mrs. Surekha Adappa, Mathematics Faculty of Sahyadri P. U. College conducted the third session. She highlighted the important aspects of Maths curriculum and put the apprehensions of the students to rest by familiarizing them with effective study skills.

The two – day long Bridge Course came to an end with the exciting session of sports and games. The Semi – Finals and Finals of the Cricket tournament (boys) and the Finals of the Throwball matches (girls) were held in the afternoon.
