Lt. Gen (Dr.) N. S. Malik, PVSM, Former Deputy Chief of Army Staff visits Sahyadri

Lt. Gen (Dr.) N. S. Malik, PVSM, Former Deputy Chief of Army Staff, accompanied by Former Lt. Gen. P. G. Kamath, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Commandant Army War College, Brigadier Narayan Singh Malik and Prof. G. S. Murthy, visited the Campus. They were received by Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, and Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator and were taken around the Campus by the Principal and the Administrator. As he entered the gates of Sahyadri, Lt. Gen (Dr.) N. S. Malik, was extremely pleased to see the college and the surroundings and said that, “This is how a college should be.” He even stopped and spoke to several students and was happy to see them with so many smiles.

The former Deputy Chief of Army Staff later interacted with the student community and the teaching fraternity to spread awareness on National Security Issues. In his address to the gathering, he spoke about the threats and challenges that face the nation and what the youth as the Future of India will have to do to confront these issues. With his vast experience spanning over four decades in the Indian Army he told the gathering that India has it all; the Comprehensive National Power which encompasses the hard power, the economic, the political, the social, and the military; but how astutely and where exactly we use both the hard power and the soft power is what will lead India far and beyond. All it needs he said was the right leadership and the youth of today can carry us on with it. Lt. Gen (Dr.) N. S. Malik galvanized the students and urged them with patriotic fervour to be an Indian first and build a strong India.

Advocate P. P. Hegde, a well-known advocate of the High Court of Karnataka who also accompanied the delegates, spoke to the gathering and urged them to join hands to build a united, undivided India with strong leadership and make it a superpower to be reckoned with.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, asked the students and the audience to get into the act and introspect on making India a strong and powerful nation. He said that at least twice in a year; once on Independence Day and the other on Republic Day, we should with gratitude, learn to hoist the National Flag in remembrance of all the soldiers and the great leaders who gave us a free India.

Lt. Gen (Dr.) N. S. Malik was delighted to be given the opportunity to interact with the DREAMERS Club members. He motivated the team and said that it was in their hands now to take India forward with research and technology. He was excited to learn of their inventions and the concept of the hydrographic vehicle for surveillance of the sea shore. He congratulated the team on the many accolades they had received. It may be recalled that the members of the club have been making the headlines for winning several competitions in the prestigious IITs such as IIT, Kharagpur and IIT, Chennai. Team “DREAMERS” won First Prize in the National Students Space Challenge-13 (NSSC13) held at IIT-Kharagpur, the Best Team Award in the Lunar Rover Challenge organized by team Indus, hosted by IIT, Madras, the second place in the IIT event, "Kshitij 2013" for their design "the DREAM Overhaul," and the second place in the event `Lakshman Rekha (line following robot)’, a national level technical fest organised by SNIST, Hyderabad.

Lt. Gen. P. G. Kamath also shared a story with the team with a moral and asked the team to have self-esteem and always use obstacles as opportunities to grow in life and to build a stronger nation.

Mr. P. P. Hegde, Advocate of the High Court of Karnataka and the president of the all-India Youth for Nation (YFN) interacted with team DREAMERS and emphasised on the role of leadership in the progress of the nation and invited them to visit his office. The members of the Club enjoyed their interaction with all the dignitaries.

HR Conclave on Emerging Trends of Managing Human Resources

SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) and the Department of Business Administration, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, have jointly organized a two-day HR Conclave on, `Emerging Trends of Managing Human Resources.’

The two-day HR Conclave was inaugurated in the Campus by Mr. Farhat Umar, GM, HR & OD, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Ahmedabad. In his inaugural address, Mr. Farhat said that higher education today is facing the challenge to develop industry-ready skill sets for an employer-desired work force. To meet these challenges, there must be regular interaction between the industry and the academia highlighting the importance of human resource in an enterprise. Mr. Farhat appealed to institutions of higher education to focus on development of skills relevant to industry along with required knowledge. During this economic uncertainty, to achieve a competitive edge, the total quality of people plays an important role; so the focus should be development of apt skills and behavior along with academics.

Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Sahyadri Educational Institutions, presided over the inaugural function. Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, in his presidential remarks shared the importance of practicing human values for being successful in today’s competitive world.

Eminent HR personalities from leading corporate houses like Deloitte, Hewlett Packard, Kirloskar Electricals, Siemens, will jointly share the current emerging trends and challenges in managing HR in the presence of academic experts from the Manipal Group, Jain University, AIMS Bangalore and SDM. More than 300 delegates, faculties, students and from industry are participating in the Conclave.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, welcomed the gathering. Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, presided over the Conclave. The chief coordinator of the Conclave, Dr. Vishal Samartha, delivered the vote of thanks.

Following the inaugural programme, Mr. Farhat Umar, addressed the session on Emerging Trends in HRM and Ms. Madhulika Vedula, Executive Manager, Deloitte, Hyderabad, engaged a session on Paradigm Shift in Talent Management. Employee Branding and Employee Value Proposition was the session topic dealt by Mr. Nishanth Mohanty, Global HR Head and CHRO Manipal Group and Mr. Nadeem Sarfaraz from SHRM enlightened the delegates on Technology Enabled Human Resource Management.

On the second and concluding day of the HR Conclave a session was engaged on Managing Generation Z Employees by Mr. Saravan Praveen, HR Manager from HP. Ms. Nanditha Seetharamiah, HR Partner from HP briefed about the Emerging Importance of Social Media in HR Practice by the corporate businesses. Dr. Muralidhar, VP – HR, Kirloskar Electricals, Bangalore, addressed the session on Outsourcing; A Strategic Alliance for Excellence. Mr. Dheeraj Shetty, Head HR, JBF Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Jadhav Prashanth Group HR – Manager Siemens, Dr. Uday Chandra, Registrar, SDM Ujire, and Mr. Saravan Praveen, HR-HP Company were in the panel discussion on Emerging Trends in HR.

Sahyadri College of Nursing celebrates its Annual Day

Sahyadri College of Nursing celebrated its Annual Day in the Campus. Rev. Sr. Winnifred D’Souza, Principal, Father Muller College of Nursing, Mangalore, was the Chief Guest. Prof. Mrs. Irene Veigas, Principal, Sahyadri College of Nursing, presided over the function. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various cultural events conducted during Karanji -2013. The highlight of the programme was a variety of cultural performances given by the students of nursing.

Commodore Harshad Datar and Commander Vijay Singh from Naval Headquarters, Delhi, visit Sahyadri

Commodore Harshad Datar and Commander Vijay Singh, Director and Joint Director, Naval Headquarters, New Delhi, visited Sahyadri campus and interacted with the faculty and students with the aim to motivate them towards research activities. During the walk around, they appreciated the infrastructure and the facilities available. Commodore Harshad Datar planted a coconut sapling in the premises and indicated that the relationship between Sahyadri and the navy should grow like the sapling. Commander Vijay Singh briefed on the procedure for writing research proposals and indicated that NHQ will look forward to receiving many proposals from Sahyadri. College of Nursing celebrates its Graduation Day 2014

Sahyadri College of Nursing celebrated its Graduation Day-2014 in the Campus. Sri. U. T. Khadar, Honorable Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka, was the Chief Guest. Students in their graduate attire along with the band marched to the venue accompanied by the Chief Guest and the faculty. 134 students of the following disciplines; M.Sc Nursing, B.Sc Nursing, and P.B. B.Sc. Nursing took the oath and received their graduation certificates on this auspicious day.

Sri. U.T. Khadar in his message to the students said that a positive attitude towards nursing is important for the nurses. He said that money is not important but peace of mind is important to lead a happy life. The Hon’ble Minister said that Sahyadri College of Nursing is one of the best institutions that prepares young people to face the realities of life. He termed nursing as one of the best professions; the first being teaching. He concluded by conveying his best wishes to the graduates and asked them to strive well and become good nurses but most importantly to be good human beings and bring pride to their families and the institution.

Prof. (Mrs.) Irene Veigas, Principal, College of Nursing, presented a brief report on various activities held during the academic year. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, in his presidential address, said that work, family, health and spirit are related to each other and together they should be involved in their day-to-day life. Mrs. Neetha Kamath welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Shanthi Moras rendered the Vote of Thanks. The programme concluded with the singing of the College Anthem.

Chairman addresses parents of under-performers of Semester I

The parents meet of the under-performers of Semester I was held in the campus. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, addressed the gathering and asked the parents to build a harmonious relationship with their wards. He also asked the students to develop an attitude of, “I Can Do It.”

Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, showed the analysis of the students’ performance and requested the parents as well as students to take a firm stand on their aspiration of becoming an engineer. The meeting provided an open platform to parents and students to discuss the reasons for underperformance and sort out the possible solutions.
