Ambedkar Jayanti, a Tribute to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar celebrated at Sahyadri
Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated every year at Sahyadri with great enthusiasm in order to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and his immense contributions for the people of India. The programme formally commenced by paying homage to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar by garlanding and lighting candle. This was done by Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal; Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean-Academics, Mr. Devadas Hegde, Trustee along with faculty, non-teaching staff and students.
Dr. B R Ambedkar paid his major contribution by protecting the Fundamental Rights (for the social freedom, equality and eradication of untouchability for low group people) and Directive Principles (enhancing the living status by securing the fair distribution of wealth) of State Policy in the Indian Constitution. He continued his social revolution till the end of his life through the Buddhism. He has been honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1990 for his big contributions towards the Indian society.

Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Accreditation Committee visited Sahyadri and viewed all the departments and interacted with faculty, students and Alumini. The Accreditation committee was headed by Chairman Dr. Channakaiah, Professor & HoD- Mech, Adhiyamaan College of Engineering.
Other members of committee were Dr. K. Thangaraj, Professor, Department of IT, Sona College of Technology, Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Professor & HoD, Vemana Institute of Technology, Dr. Kodanda Ramaiah G.N, Professor & HoD –E&C, Kuppam Engineering College and Dr. S Suresh Babu, Dean (R&D), Adhiyamaan College of Engineering.
The committee appreciated the holistic development of the institute and had words of praise for the unique practices of Sahyadri.
Dream initiative of “Congress Bhavan” at Shimoga of Sahyadri Chairman,
Mr. Manjunath Bhandary realized
Congress Bhavan Shimoga is the brainchild of Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, in his constituency. It is one of the top Congress offices with nearly 10,000 sqft of built up area. The dream was realized by its launch through Honourable President, All India Congress Committee Sri. Rahul Gandhi on 3rd April 2018. Inauguration was in the August presence of Honourable Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka Sri. Siddaramaiah, Shri. Mallikarjuna Kharge, Shri. D. K. Shivakumar, and Dr. G. Parameshwara of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), other leaders and party workers of Congress.
 
Mr. Rahul Gandhi has been one of the major contributors in the establishment of the Congress Bhavan. He lauded the professional accomplishment of the work initiative of Mr. Bhandary and the efforts in its successful completion of the Congress Bhavan, thus applauding the good work of party workers.

Senior scientist of DRDO visits Sahyadri
 
Dr Ramakrishna A. from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) visited the Sahyadricampus. Dr. Ramakrishna A. is the Head of Research Appliances and Senior Principal Scientist (Food Engineering&Packaging), DRDO, Ministry of Defence. He had a fruitful interaction with faculty and students about innovative mechatronics technology and management.
Dr Ramakrishna has 34 years of wide experience in the development of polymer composites,food processing on functional, nutritional foods, its process and packaging systems. He has developed innovative food engineering systems with polymer composites,demonstrated and installed for use in high altitude locations, deserts, naval ship galley, Marcos and Commandos. He was honored with Best Scientific Worker-1988, DFRL, DRDO and DFRL-DRDO Scientist of the Year awardsin 2011.
Dr Ramakrishna is of the belief that education should be action oriented and research should be converted into beneficial products for armed forces and civilians. Further, he has expressed his willingness to mentor any faculty or studentswho wish to seek his support from ideation to product.
Moolathva Foundation members visit Sahyadri
 
Rtn.PrakashKotian, President of Moolathva Foundation along with his team of trustees and members visited the campus and interacted with the MBA students. The studentshave been invitedby the Moolathva team to the upcoming Moolathva Awards to be held on 15thApril 2018. At this Awards event, Mr. T. Raja, Founder of New Ark Mission Bengaluru, who ispopularly known as Auto Raja, will be felicitated with the Moolathva.During the interaction, Principal Dr. U.M. Bhushi shared somestories about the people who serve the society and encouraged the students to do their part for the society.
A video of the life and works of AutoRaja was presented to the students along with the videos of other extraordinary people who have rendered incredibleservice to the society. RtnPrakashKotian spoke to the students about the Moolathva Foundation and invited all the students and their family to attend the upcoming Moolathva Awards.

Team Challengers comprising of Nanda Kumar, Rajmunni Hombal, Subham Kulal, Abdhul Shameer, Aakassh Suvarna, Poorvika G, Likith R, Pratham Panambur, Prayag Raj, Swathi, Preethesh B were at overall 9th place in the recently held SAE Aerodesign 2018 in California, USA. They were at 7th place in Oral Presentation & 6th place in Payload Lifting.

Sahyadri organized a Fellowship Dinner at RV International Hotel in Jigani, Bengaluru
 
A Fellowship Dinner was organized by Mr. Karthik Bhandary, Research Scholar, MBA Department and Mr. Sreenath at RV International Hotel in Jigani, Bengaluru. Over 15 HR managers from Core Mechanical industries were present at this event. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal while addressing the HR's shared his insights about Sahyadri, its achievements and about the innovative student-centric campus.
Mr. Raghav, RDL Technologies, Ms. Rashmi Bhandary, Placement Officer, Mr. Manjappa, Director-Research & Consultancy, Mr. Sundar, Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt. Ltd. graced the occasion. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation spoke to the gathering and shared his roadmap for the Sahyadrians and how the institution is working differently to meet the Talent needs of industries. This was followed by Dinner and the Industry-Academia Connect was concluded.
Dr. Umesh M Bhushi completes 7 years as Principal at Sahyadri
With great joy, Sahyadri congratulates Dr. Umesh M Bhushi for completing 7 years of service as a Principal at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. Under his leadership, Sahyadri has soared to great heights in its achievements. Dr. Bhushi, with his vast experience as a teacher, as an academician and an able administrator has brought innovations which has made Sahyadri a pioneer in innovative teaching and learning. Dr. Bhushi, a Doctorate from prestigious IIT, Kharagpur has guided more than 8 students for their PhD and 4 among them have already been awarded with the Doctorate degree. He has published more that 80 papers in International Journal and has also written books on TQM. He has been a resource person for over 150 talks and seminars held across the country. He has held positions and is also a high profile member in various committees and Boards of prominent Educational Institutions and Government Departments. Dr. Bhushi has spearheaded many of the innovative programmes and projects in our college such as - Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt, Sahyadri Project Support Scheme and many more. Through his charisma and excellent networking skills our institute is now connected with many of the prestigious institutions and industries all over the world. We are indeed very fortunate to have such a dynamic person leading us from the forefront as the Principal. AEnCES organised an Orphanage visit
 
A visit to an orphanage is a life changing experience as it is filled with emotions and sentiments.
Student Association of the Department of Electronics & Computer Engineering organized an orphanage visit in Jeppu, Mangalore. Sahyadriansgot the opportunity to mingle with the students of Infant Mary Convent School. There were around 58 students out of which 28 are orphans. The age group of children ranged from 7 to 12 years. The children gave a warm welcome by way of a beautiful song. The session started with fun filled warmup exercise. For the Craft Session groups were formed and craft paper and stationary wasdistributed.At the end of the sessionsweets were distributed. Students handed over the groceries contributed by them and the faculties along with the charity box set aside for this noble cause, to the school staff.
A Day with Kids made a big difference. The students of ECEthankedtheHoD and also Mrs Leena,Headmistress, Infant Mary’s Convent School for giving them this opportunity to visit the orphanage and interact with the kids.

Ms. Swathi Rai from Placement Department participated in the 3rd London International Conference on Social Science & Humanities (ICSSH) in Imperial College of London, South Kensington campus organised by GAHSSR. She presented a paper on "Indian Education System, the Sister Nivedita way" and won the Best Paper Presentation Award.

Mr. Anantha V, DGM ROK, The Printers (Mysore) Pvt. Ltd., Heading the Sales Division of Deccan Herald, Bengaluru, and Mr. Jaiprakash from DH Mangalore Division visited Sahyadri Campus and interacted with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal and Mr. Vasanth Kedige, Media Consultant. Chairman Mr Manjunath Bhandary guided him around the campus and visited the innovative labs, the in-house start-ups and the student-centric initiatives from Dreamers and Challengers. Mr Anantha appreciated the holistic development of the institute and congratulated Mr Bhandary for the Initiation of the Sahyadri Project support Scheme (SPSS) and Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) Programme.
Sahyadri Alumnus receives Rs. 10 Lakhs worth of Scholarship per year to pursue Masters Degree in Germany
Mr. Akshay R Bhandary, an alumnus of Mechanical Engineering 2012-16 Batch is awarded a scholarship of Rs. 10 Lakhs per year from Devaraj Urs Foreign Education Scholarship sanctioned by the Dept. of Backward Classes Welfare. The scholarship was awarded to him on merit basis as a support to pursue his Masters Degree in “Sustainable Systems Engineering” at Albert Ludwigs University, Freiburg in Germany. Mr. Akshay is the son of Mr. Ramesh A Bhandary, Accountant at Bhandary Foundation. Sahyadri Family congratulates both for the remarkable achievement.
First year engineering student wins Best Paper Presentation award at IIT, Roorkee
Ms. Basava Rajeshwari Ambi of 1st year Information Science & Engineering received 1st prize for her Paper Presentation titled “TEACH, - How to Improve Indian Education system using Technology”, in Cognizance -2018 held at IIT-Roorkee, Uttarkhand. She received a sum of Rs. 10,000/- as cash prize. She also participated in other events such as Yin-Yang, Unheard-IITR & Cyborg Break In.
Placement Highlights
Kamai Elevators Private Limited visited Sahyadri to conduct a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 78 students attended the drive, out of which 20 students were shortlisted. The final results are awaited.

Mandovi Motors Pvt Ltd conducted a Campus Recruitment Drive for the Mechanical engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. Mr. Oliver Rodrigues, Sr. In-House Trainer accompanied by Mr. Suraj Sapalya, Asst. Manager HR from the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 87 students attended the drive & the results are awaited.
Mphasis Limited conducted Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. Three-member recruitment team headed by Mr. Vidhyaranya K, Sr. Manager, HRand accompanied by Mr. Madhusoodan Raj, Product Owner and Mr. Avinash, Module Lead were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 86 students attended the drive and the results are awaited.

Mr. Gaurav Bhandari, Director-Audit and Mr. Hardik Shah from the HR team of KPMG-GDC conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for the MBA Students. The session began with a pre-placement talk by Mr. Gaurav. A total of 89 students from various colleges attended the drive. The process included Aptitude Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview round.
Topsy-Turvy conducted an online test at Sahyadri for their recruiting process of engineering students from 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 50 students attended the drive. The final results are awaited.
Royal Arabian conducted a campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. Mr. Michael Fernandes, General Manager accompanied by Mr. Rajesh VP, Assistant Manager-HR from Royal Arabian were at the campus to facilitate the entire process.
