Sahyadri Educational Institutions Celebrate the 69th Independence Day

The 69th anniversary of our Independence Day was celebrated with joy and pride by the staff and students of the Sahyadri Educational Institutions. Mr. Sharath K. Shetty, Managing Director and Co-founder, Telenetix Private Limited, the Chief Guest, hoisted the national flag after which the gathered students, faculty members and the staff sang the national anthem with pride in their hearts.

Mr. Sharath Shetty in his 69th Independence Day Speech said that the celebrations on this day, took him back to his NCC days when he used to proudly take part in the March Past on Brigade Road in Bangalore in front of the Governor and a huge crowd. He was proud to see the students, staff and management celebrating the Independence Day with such pride. He thanked the chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and the principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi for inviting him on the occasion. Giving a brief about his stint in the US, he said that it was India that pulled him back and this is how he started a company in the rural area so that he can give back to society and ever since he has created numerous jobs.

The programme concluded with a rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’. The Principals of Sahyadri Educational Institutions, the teaching and non teaching staff and students were present. The achievers in NSS, NCC and sports were honoured by the Chief Guest. Sweets were distributed on the occasion to recall the elation felt by every Indian at the stroke of midnight on 15 August 1947.

After the hoisting of the national flag, the students and staff showcased their talent in a cultural programme on the Independence Day celebrations in the Campus. Mime, dance, solo and group singing were performed by staff and students. Mr. Sharath Shetty later addressed the faculty members of CS, IS, EC & MCA on the topic, `The Rise and Fall of Indian IT Services’; how the IT services boom began and how it is coming to an end and strategies to survive the fallout.

38th Series Seminar and Exhibition of Student Project Programme by KSCST held at Sahyadri

The 38th Series – Seminar and Exhibition of Student Project Programme organised jointly by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), Bengaluru and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru was inaugurated in the Campus. Attributing the exhibition to the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management welcomed the gathering.

In his opening remarks Dr. S. G. Sreekanteswara Swamy, Executive Secretary, KSCST, said that for the past several years KSCST has been supporting the young budding engineers to enrich the collegiate education and improve the understanding of the engineering education.

Prof. Jayant M. Modak, Deputy Director Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, delivered the inaugural address and laid emphasis on being an ‘innovator’. The chief guest Dr. H. Maheshappa, Vice Chancellor VTU, congratulated KSCST for igniting the young minds and encouraged the students to take up projects which in turn serve mankind. He released the SPP engineering compendium along with a CD on this auspicious day. The guest of honour, Shri. A. K. Monappa, IAS, Managing Director, Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board and Hatti Gold Mines Company Limited released the SPP biofuel compendium and addressed the gathering.

Prof. M.S. Mohan Kumar, Secretary KSCST released the book “Geographical Indications of Karnataka” on this occasion and Shri. S.N. Sondur expressed the vote of thanks. In a separate technical session for the students, a technical lecture by Dr. A. Narendranath Udupa, Principal Scientist, Phillips Research, Bengaluru, dwelt on various topics such as ' academy to industry ' and 'control strategics for renewable (solar) energy integration’. The students visited the project exhibition and explored the ocean of information the exhibition had to offer.

In the valedictory address, Dr. S.G. Sreekanteshwara Swamy, expressed gratitude to the Chairman and the Principal for successfully organizing the exhibition in the campus.

The chief guest at the valedictory was Dr. L. V. Muralikrishna Reddy, President, Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata and the guest of honor was Prof. Lakshman Nandagiri, Dept. of Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics, NITK, Surathkal. Shri. N Lakshman , Director- Technical, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company Limited was also present on the occasion.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, in his presidential speech during the valedictory thanked NITK for the constant support and also KSCST for organizing such an event which has attracted participants from all over the state. Click here for the prize winners

Orientation for the Parents of the New Entrants Held in the Campus

The Orientation Programme for the parents of the new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus. Around 500 parents participated in the program.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, welcomed the parents of the new batch of students and urged them to look beyond academics to shape a better future for their wards. The dream is to make Sahyadri one of the top institutes of India. He asked the parents to build a friendly relationship with their wards and requested the parents to share their day-to-day work with their wards by adding a few responsibilities that would be beneficial for the development of soft skills. He requested the parents to encourage students to join the Project and Research team which will enhance their career. The parents were given an overview about the College and benefits of working together as the stakeholders of the institution.

“FEEL-Employable” Learning and Development Intervention Programme Held in the Campus

The three-day training session “FEEL - Employable” learning and development intervention programme for the first year students was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi. He addressed the students emphasizing the need for holistic learning. He encouraged the students to actively participate in the sessions to follow and enjoy the learning process.

Sahyadri Student Council Inaugurated

The Sahyadri Student Council for the year 2015-16 was inaugurated in the campus. Mr. Nagaraj K., Head-HR & Administration, Udupi Power Corporation Ltd; a unit of the Adani Group and Mr. Ramani Venkat, the Director of Varnaaz Leaders Factory were the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour for the inaugural function.

Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice Principal introduced the student council members of the departments of Academics, Training, Placement, Sports, Cultural, Club Activities, Projects & Research, Entrepreneurship and the Student President. He also administered the oath and apprised the council of their objectives.

The Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary in his presidential remarks emphasised that a leader is the one who creates leaders. Mr. Nagaraj, the Chief Guest addressed the students on the qualities of an efficient leader. He gave a presentation on the Adani Group and an insight into the industry requirements and the recruitment process. Mr. Ramani Venkat, the Guest of Honour said that the students were lucky to be studying at Sahyadri which provides many avenues for leadership. Dr. Umesh. M. Dr. Anjana Devi Professor Ruhr-University Addresses Faculty Members

An interactive talk by Dr. Anjana Devi, Professor, Inorganic Materials Chemistry Research Group, Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, was held in the Campus. The talk was organised jointly by the Academic, Research, and Training Departments of the College along with the Rotary Club of Mangalore.

Dr. Anjana Devi addressed the faculty members on " Atomic scale Engineering of Nanostructured functional materials: Chemical approaches to tackle challenges in materials development." She spoke about employing chemical approaches for developing thin films and the various concepts such as chemical vapor deposition, atomic layer deposition, rare earth oxides, and transparent oxide semiconductors for flexible light electronic gadgets.


Addressing the academic & research co-ordinators from every section and other interested students on "Higher Education and Pursuing Research in Germany: Perspectives and Opportunities," she elaborated on the education system in Germany and stressed that education is something which they don’t compromise on and added that students are more independent in Germany. She encouraged those present to enroll into research studies in Germany.

Tholons CEO Visits Sahyadri

Ms. Ankita Vashistha, CEO, Tholons addressed the research team and senior faculty members of Sahyadri. She enlightened the team on building a rapport with the industries for research in specific fields. She also stressed upon publishing white papers on varied research fields and create a digital library of our own so that people not only can take cognizance of the activities that we do as an institute but also encourage people to participate in the research activity. She also spoke about the opportunities available with respect to external funding for research projects.

In her address to the Student Council members she stressed that entrepreneurs should have leadership and risk taking ability and must have a firm belief in their ideas.

Ms. Vashistha manages the advisory, research, education and investments groups at Tholons. She works very actively in the start-up ecosystem in India, Philippines, Singapore, UK, and USA to source, evaluate and mentor start-up companies.

Yoga Guru Dr. H R Nagendra Speaks on Yoga as a Way of Life

Dr. H R Nagendra, Chancellor, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYASA), Deemed University, addressed the teaching, non teaching and the students on yoga and its importance. The chief guest was Prof. Dr. Anjana Devi, Professor, Inorganic Materials Chemistry Research Group, Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, was delighted to welcome the two guests to the institution. He encouraged the audience to take the two guests as their role models for their career growth. Currently, the president of Swamy Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhan Samsthana (VYASA), Dr. Nagendra believes that specialized yoga and lifestyle modifications are key to health solutions. Col. Prashant Petkar Addresses Students of Mechanical & Civil Engineering

Col Prashant Petkar , Director, Army Recruiting Office at Mangaluru visited Sahyadri and addressed the pre final year students of mechanical and civil engineering. Giving an overview of the Indian Army and the contribution of the Indian Army to the nation, he called upon the students to join the Indian Army if they have passion for the same. He explained the primary as well the secondary roles of the army, the way of life in the army, the selection process and the training that one undergoes. He also informed the students on the variety of life, challenges and rewards of being an army officer.

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Professor, Department of Business Administration is appointed by VTU on the MBA Board of Examiners for the Academic year 2015-16. It is another feather in the cap for the institute.

Wuerth Elektronik India Pvt. Ltd. conducted a campus recruitment drive for the 2015 passed out Engineering & Diploma students in the stream of Electronics & Communication, Electronics & Electricals, and Mechanical Engineering. Lenson Clive D'Souza, Prajwal S Manel, Harish U Rao, Kaushik R, Viven Rakesh Pais and Karthik Rao K from Electronics and Communication Engineering of 2015 passed out batch have been selected by the company.

Maventic Campus Drive

Maventic Innovative Solutions Pvt. Ltd. conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for the 2013/14/15 Batch of BE (CS/IS)/BE TECH /ME/ M TECH (CS/IS) / MCA and the 2016 Batch of M TECH (CS/IS) / MCA was considered for Internship. Nine students have been shortlisted for the final selection.

Shri. Manish Tewari visits Sahyadri

Shri. Manish Tewari, Spokesperson – AICC and the former Union Minister visited the Campus and interacted with the Chairman and the Principal. On his walk around the premises he appreciated the excellent infrastructure and ambience of the institute and was very impressed with the facilities provided at Sahyadri. He wished the institute the very best in all its endeavors.

Shri. Marithibbegowda Deputy Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council Visits Sahyadri

Shri. Marithibbegowda, Deputy Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council, visited the Campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Director, Dr. D. L. Prabhakara and the Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi.

Shri. Marirthibbegowda went around the college campus along with his team. He said that every facility fostering world-class learning for students has been looked into and this is a role model for other colleges. He specifically laid emphasis that the education imperative has to be seen through its contribution to society and this aspect is clearly visible in the institute. He said that the students studying in this institute are blessed and that they should make use of the resources and scope offered by the college. He opined that Sahyadri is on par with any renowned foreign university with a great future in the days ahead.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. and Sahyadri Sign Landmark MoU

Mr. R.V. Balasubramaniam Iyer, Vice President, L&D, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited and Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management signed an MoU in the presence of Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Sahyadri Educational Institutions.

This MoU will have far reaching impact between Sahyadri and Reliance. Reliance shall offer course programmes to the eligible candidates and faculty members of the institute. Reliance shall provide the relevant course materials for the course work and will set up the laboratory and classrooms in the college premises.

Freshers Day at Sahyadri

The Freshers Day was celebrated at Sahyadri with Ms. Ankita Vashistha as the chief guest and Mr. Nachappa K.U. as the guest of honour. Welcoming both the guests, the chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary advised the students to take the guests as role models. He said that ‘engineers are visionaries; they create jobs for others’. He also added that one needs to be enrolled in project-based learning along with academics.

Mr. Nachappa the Finance Lead, APAC Accenture Operations spoke about goals and empirical research. He said that identifying the problem is a driving skill that every engineer must have. At the end he advised students to make use of the facilities provided by the college.

Ms. Ankita Vashistha was very impressed with the vision of our chairman. She spoke about what is engineering and what students learn from it. She spoke about various skills that an engineer should possess and entrepreneurship which involves being a risk taker

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, remarked that the College expects every moment of students to be fresh throughout the year. He also spoke about perfections which will make the students highly professional.

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been ranked 9th by VTU in sports and cultural activities for the year 2014-15 among 201 colleges affiliated to VTU.

Sahyadri Boys’ Badminton Team Champions for Third Consecutive Year

The Sahyadri Boys’ Badminton team has emerged the Champions for the third consecutive year and the girls’ team the Runners-up in the VTU, Mangalore Zone Badminton Tournament held at NMAMIT, Nitte.

Deeksha Bhandari Receives Best Outgoing Student Award

Ms. Deeksha Bhandari has been awarded the Best Outgoing Student award from the Mount Carmel College. She was honored to receive this award from Mr. Chakravarthi Mohan, IAS, and Commissioner, Department of Collegiate Education. She completed her graduation with distinction and holds an offer from the prestigious London School of Economics to pursue her masters.
