Sahyadri Celebrates the 71st Independence Day The 71st celebration of our Independence Day was viewed with joy and pride by the staff and students of Sahyadri. Mr. B Shrinath Samaga, Manager, Human Resources, Hinduja Global Solutions, Mangaluru, Chief Guest, hoisted the national flag after which the gathered students, faculty members and the staff sang the national anthem with pride.

Mr. B Shrinath Samaga is in the HR domain for the last 15 years with an exposure to IT & ITES Sectors. He has prior experience at IBM, iGate, Artech Infosystems and Mphasis Pvt Ltd. The Student Council of Sahyadri was introduced to the guests by Mr. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal. While addressing the gathering, Mr. Shrinath, expressed his delight to see the upcoming leaders who are going to make a difference to the nation. He mentioned that Independence is not only for the nation but also to our self. He urged all to grow up to the fullest potential to make one’s career and one’s life.

Mr. Preetham Hegde, Head of IT, Mayor’s Office, New York City also graced the occasion. He has graduated from the Harvard University. While speaking to the audience, he expressed his happiness to be back to India after 26 years and also to view the Independence Day Celebration. He mentioned that there were fewer opportunities during his course of study unlike the opportunities made available at Sahyadri and that the students should grab them with both hands for their progress. He re-iterated that one should seek independence of mind and the soul should belong to one place. What you feel inside is important. He also urged the students to develop a sense of belonging to the country.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, appreciated the presence of Mr. B Shrinath Samaga who has recruited highest number of Sahyadrians for his organization & Mr. Preetham Hegde who is one of the most connected person’s with the rest of the world. He said that these days, it is unfortunate that we treat Independence Day as a Holiday and not as a Festival. He re-iterated that thousands of people sacrificed their lives for our freedom and it is a day to remember their contribution to the nation. He stimulated the crowd to create awareness among the generations to come about the gift of freedom given by our forefathers.

The Achievers of 2016-17 in extracurricular activities like Sports, Cultural & Scouts & Guides were felicitated on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day. Post the formal Independence Day Programme, the students and staff showcased their talent in a cultural programme.

Eighth Graduation Day Celebrated in the Campus

Eighth-Graduation-Day-Celebrated-in-the-CampusThe Eighth Graduation Day for the graduating students of MBA, MCA & M.TECH was held in the Campus. Two Hundred & Sixty students took an oath and received their graduation certificates from the Guest – Mr. Vidhya Shankar, Executive Director, Grant Thornton India LLP.
Mr. Vidhya Shankar is an MBA in General Management & Strategy from Cranfield University - Cranfield School of Management, UK. He has also completed his M.Sc (Hons) from BITS-PILANI. He is a management professional backed with entrepreneurial spirit and exposure to international markets. He is also a client engagement leader with proven strategic consulting and innovation skills. He has worked with start-ups as well as large global organisations. Prior to Grant Thornton India LLP, he worked in NASSCOM, enabling the India start-up ecosystem to address enterprise growth, VC investments, new markets discovery, skill development and supported various objectives of Digital India initiative. He was also a Chief Marketing Officer at Xcode Life Sciences.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, Dr. J V Gorbal, Dean Academics, and Head of All Departments graced the occasion. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal welcomed the gathering and inspired students to trust themselves, follow their passion and also stay true to their self. He thanked the parents for the bestowed confidence on Sahyadri and supporting our institution throughout the journey. He concluded his speech by saying that Education is not a degree but a channel that makes an individual a respectful citizen with values.

Eighth-Graduation-Day-Celebrated-in-the-Campus Mr. Vidhya Shankar in his address to the graduating students stated that a Big World lies ahead of them. They have a bright future and should start believing in it. Belief is the most important thing. He attributes success to the value system and stimulated students to inculcate humility in their life. He also encouraged them to be accountable to the society and then to the nation as it has enormous contribution from years of civilization. He said that these students are not only the brand ambassadors of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management but also the brand ambassadors of the country. He urged the students to discover what their true passions are and spend time on nurturing them. He also referred to students as Charcoal when they first started their course at Sahyadri, then went through a lot of stress and hard work which has now transformed them to a diamond. He concluded his talk by saying – “Follow your life, dreams & passion”.

Graduating students volunteered to share their experiences during the course of their study at Sahyadri and also assured to join hands with the institution in the form on industry-academia connects that shall contribute to the growth of the college.

Bridge Course for MBA Batch 2017-19

Day Three of Bridge Course MBA Batch 2017-19 During the Day One of Bridge Course for MBA Batch 2017-19, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Dept. Of Business Administration welcomed the students and in her talk, mentioned the key notes regarding the achievements of the institution in placements, pedagogy adopted, the faculty blend of both industry & academics and also about the uniqueness of Sahyadri MBA. Post this, Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor facilitated a session on Self Awareness which urged the students to evaluate self before they begin their MBA course. The second day of Bridge Course started with a session on “Self: Growth & Development” by Prof. Mithun Ullal, Dept. of Business Administration. The third day of MBA Bridge Course started with “Colloquium on Quantitatives in Life”, a session facilitated by Prof. Ragavendra Prabhu and Dr. Rashmi Kodikal, Dept. of Business Administration. This session highlighted the essence of numerical on one’s life and how numbers could be made interesting. Day Four began with a session from Prof. Sushma V, Dept. Of Business Administration on “Sahyadri 2030”, a team activity to bring out Creative Thinking, followed by presentation on this imaginary topic by students.

Chairman speaks to the B.E. new entrants during the Orientation Program

Chairman addresses the third batch of B.E. New entrants on the Orientation program Orientation session for the new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus. Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, oriented the students, briefing them on the overall growth of the college since the inception. He basically stressed on acceptance of the engineering course. He stated that engineering is a process of learning the concepts, rather than only studying. He emphasized on the leadership quality building in an individual and stated its importance in terms of being employable. He also stated that Companies are currently looking forward to hiring the leaders than just employees.

ELEVATE 100 hosted in Sahyadri

ELEVATE 100 hosted in Sahyadri Mr. J R LOBO, MLA of Mangaluru South constituency inaugurated a session of ELEVATE 100 for Mangaluru region which was hosted in Sahyadri Campus. Elevate 100 is an initiative of the Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka and aims to provide a comprehensive entrepreneurship platform for startups. On visiting the campus, Mr. Lobo was impressed with the incubation centre and the start-ups in the premises of the institution. He had words of praise for Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation for his achievement in making the dream of Student entrepreneurship become a reality by providing all facilities in-house and also for adopting the best practices. He appreciated the professional approach of the management to produce practicing engineers instead of graduates.

The Elevate 100 Pitching process is to identify the top 100 startups across Karnataka and provide them with Government Funds/Support. More than 20 companies with innovative ideas gave presentations to the Jury. The Jury consisted of members from TIE Bengaluru and Deshpande Foundation. The event was managed by MM Activ and Aptra Technologies was the Venue Partner of the event.
