Another Feather in the Cap: Sahyadri named Engineering College of the Year 2015 for Value Addition

Higher Education Review in its December 2015 issue has named Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management as the Engineering College of the Year 2015 for its Value Addition for the positive impact that the institute has made on society and the education fraternity. This is another feather in the cap for the college.

Higher Education Review’s Engineering Colleges of the Year 2015; a yearly listing that has been showcasing since their inception, lists Engineering institutes that have been relentlessly striving to improve their services. An expert team consisting of top HR managers and educators, evaluated hundred of nominations they received to come up with a comprehensive set of engineering colleges in the country that have performed well in parameters such as infrastructure, faculty, industry interaction, innovative programmes, research and placements.

The ‘Udayavani’ and the ‘Times of India’ have also featured Sahyadri as the best among the engineering colleges.

The Chairman and the Principal Visit and Contribute to the Yoga University

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman and Dr. U.M. Bhushi, Principal along with Mr. Karthik Bhandary from the Department of Business Administration visited the Yoga University at Bengaluru and made a humble contribution of Rupees Two lakhs to the 21st International Conference on Frontiers in Yoga Research and Its Applications - 21st NCOFYRA from the Sahyadri Corpus fund. Many of our faculties will be involved as volunteers in the conference to be held from 3to7 January, 2016 at Prashanti Kutiram, Bengaluru.

The Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (VYASA), Bangalore, the Centre of Excellence for Yoga and Yoga Research is organizing the said conference which shall be an ideal platform for exchange of knowledge including technology, thus enabling in achieving a new mile stone in the area of Integrated Health Care System. The Conference makes the beginning of a new era in Integrated Health System, which aims at making healthcare affordable to one and all. The Conference is a galaxy of diversified personalities participating in it.

Mr. K. R. Vaidheeswaran, Joint Secretary, Government of India visit Sahyadri Campus

Mr. K. R. Vaidheeswaran, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure, Government of India visited Sahyadri. On his visit he interacted with Prof. Umashankar. B. S., Dean Academics, Mr. Ashwath Rao, Associate Professor and Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering. He was taken around the Campus and he expressed his happiness to see the infrastructure and facilities provided in the College and praised the growth of the institution in such a short span of time. He congratulated the management for introducing the Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) and Sahyadri Project Support Scheme (SPSS). He has promised to render his full support towards the Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd.

Sahyadrians Recognised With Young Indians Award for Best Young Innovators

Riding high on the success of making it to the top ten in the India Innovation Initiative-2015 Competition Navjith P Karkera, Semester V, Mechanical Engineering and Jagath Biddappa, Semester V, Electronics & Communication Engineering, interns at Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd were awarded with the Young Indians Award for Best Young Innovators for their Smart Electronic Helmet for Motorcycle invention by Dr. Harshavardhan, Incumbent Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology (India) and Ministry of Earth Sciences, in Delhi. The Innovation Initiative-2015 Competition; a joint initiative of AICTE, Government of India (DST) & Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was held at IIT Delhi.

A total of 2700 innovations were received from across the country from students, industry professionals, individual and grassroots innovators in various fields such as Life Sciences, Electronics & Communications, IT, Energy and Engineering Technologies. After a first level of screening by an expert panel comprising of eminent scientists and industrialists, the top 76 innovations had been showcased at the i3 National Fair at IIT Delhi. From these, a high level national jury will select the top 9 innovations (one special innovation) based on the technical feasibility, market potential of the innovation and its impact on the industry, society and environment.

Department of Civil Engineering, Signs MOU with FE Designs

The two days faculty development programme on 'Cype Software and its Application in Civil Engineering’ which concluded at Sahyadri marked the occasion of the Department of civil engineering, signing an MOU with FE Designs, Bengaluru. This facilitates students to learn the Cype Cad software and undergo training so as to enhance their skills and make them industry ready.

IBM Selects Students from Sahyadri

Janesh B. and Mohammed Yunus Hasan from the Department of Civil Engineering, Chandrika Padmanabha Kanchan, Huda and Sanjana Rai M.B. from the Department of Computer Science Engineering, Manasi K. Nair, Varsha Muthappa V. and Sagar Kumar from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, B.G. Arpitha from Information Science Engineering and Dhanush C. Achar and Mohammed Zamil from the Department of Mechanical Engineering have been recruited by IBM in the recently held recruitment drive in the campus.

Faculty Members Visit Asea Brown Boveri Global Industries Limited

Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HoD and Dr. Sarvesh Vishwakarma, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering visited ABB Global Industries and Services Limited, Bengaluru, for the viva-voce on internship of Mrs. Prajna Udupa (M.Tech. III Semester Student, CSE, SCEM, Mangaluru; Project Title: Designing and Developing AML Converter for Input Output Scanner to Enable Efficient Engineering of Real Field Devices in Process Automation).

They interacted with Mr. Arun Babu, Group Manager and Mr. Manoj Parashuram, Technical Specialist of the company and explored the opportunities for internship program for M.Tech/B.E. students. A memento was presented to Mr. Arun Babu for their effort and support in facilitating internships for our students.

Mr. Sanjeev Baitmangalkar Addresses the MBA Students

Sayona A JMr. Sanjeev Baitmangalkar, Principal Consultant, Strategy & Lean Management, Stratmann Consulting, Bengaluru addressed the first year MBA students on the topic ‘Recipe for success’. In his address he highlighted that the definition for success is different for different individuals and it is a never ending process that begins from within. He emphasised that we should learn from our failures, dream big, manage time, handle stress, build relationships through networking, develop communication skills, be persistent and be an entrepreneur. He also emphasised that each one should develop the habit of reading which will contribute to the success of an individual.

Mr. Sanjeev has forty years of Core Competence in Strategy and Management, Lean Manufacturing, Innovation, Industrial Marketing, Business Process Reengineering, Turnarounds etc. of large organizations in India and abroad. He was among the pioneers who introduced ‘Lean Manufacturing’ in India in the early 1990’s and is credited for the successful complete transformation of Mysore Kirloskar’s (MKL) Hubli factory as India’s first, full and comprehensive lean factory.


Well-Wishers of Sahyadri Visit the Campus

Mr. Rahul Kharge, son of Sri. Mallikarjun Kharge, former Minister of Railways along with Mr. Radha Krishna, Trustee of Bhandary Foundation visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, the Principal and the faculty members. They were taken up by the campus and its infrastructure. Mr. Kharge appreciated the professional development achieved by Sahyadri in a short span. As the guests went around the campus they were impressed by the various facilities available to impart education in a holistic way. They were extremely glad with the achievements of the students in their projects. The ‘Hands-on Experience Lab’ which is an initiative taken up by Sahyadri was appraised by them and they wished well for the future growth of the College.

Prof. S. S. Balakrishna Appointed as Vice Principal

Prof. S. S. Balakrishna has been appointed as the Vice Principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. He has completed his BE in Mechanical Engineering from AIT Chickmagalur, M.Tech. in Design from I.I.T. Kharagpur and is pursuing his Ph.D. (Composite Structures) from NITK, Surathkal. He has published 2 books and has 3 international journal publications. He has got more than 31 years of experience in teaching and 3 years of experience in research. He has worked in various capacities; HOD of Mechanical Engineering, Dean (Administration), Dean (Planning & Development) in the Sahyadri Institute. He is the Chief Editor of the Sahyadri Newsletter.

Prof. Mahesh B Davanageri Appointed as HoD of Mechanical Engineering

Prof. Mahesh B Davanageri has been appointed as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He has completed his B.E in Industrial Production from Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan, M.E. in Design Engineering from Karnataka University, Dharwad. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. studies (Material Characterization) at NITK, Surathkal. He has published four International and two National journal publications and presented papers in three national conferences. He has got more than twenty-one years of experience in teaching and three years of experience in research.

Students Visit Bosch and gain inputs from Bosch Officials


Mr. Shrajan Bhandary and Mr. Rakhesh Permudanayya, Semester VII, Electronics & Communication Engineering and interns of Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. were invited to Robert Bosch India, Bangalore by Mr. Aakarsh Naidu, Strategic Initiatives at IIM-B Startup Accelerator and Incubator to have an interaction on IoT space. Students had an interaction with Mr. Harsha Madhava, Manager – Business Development and other key members. The Bosch officials were impressed by the activities carried on in the startup and also initiatives taken by Sahyadri in promoting entrepreneurs.

TVS Training & Services Recruitment Drive


Mr. Bharathson M, Assistant Manager-BFSI and Mr. Terrence G, Executive-Human Resources, TVS Training & Services, Chennai, conducted an off campus recruitment drive at Sahyadri. They were both impressed with the infrastructure and facilities provided in the Campus and have promised support to the hands-on lab which has been set up for the students.

TCS Campus Recruitment Drive

The TCS held a campus drive exclusively for Sahyadri in the campus. Five team members of the HR team visited on occasion and fifty students attended the interview. The results of which are awaited.

III Semester Student, CSE, SCEM, Mangaluru). nVIERATECH Info Systems Private Limited is a product-based software company with its corporate office in Bengaluru. They interacted with Mr. Lalithaprasanna R & Mr. Ravi Karlapalem, Directors and Mr. Mahesh D, Vice President of the company and explored the opportunities for internship program for M.Tech/B.E. students. A memento was presented to Mr. Mahesh D for their effort and support in facilitating internships for our students.
