Sahyadri Alumni Meet 2018Sahyadrians participate in Karavali Utsava Inaugural Procession The 7th Alumni Meet of Sahyadri was organized in Sahyadri Campus to celebrate and refresh old relationships and form new ones. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Anil Uppin, Former Managing Director, Karnataka Council for Technical Upgradation. Mr. Rohit Nara, Founder & CEO, AGUA presided over as the Guest of Honour.

Principal - Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, welcomed the gathering and in his speech highlighted the developments and achievements of the institution. He placed before the audience a proud picture of the various initiatives and projects undertaken and also the students’ achievements in sports & cultural events at the campus. While proudly speaking about the accolades and accreditations awarded to Sahyadri he explained how Sahyadri has grown by leaps and bounds over short span of 10 years since its inception.

Mr. Anil Uppin has an industrial experience of 36 years. He addressed the gathering and spoke about his connect with Sahyadri. He encouraged the alumni to be entrepreneurs and assured his perpetual support to them. Mr. Rohith Nara, began his speech introducing himself as a person working for water technology. He stressed about the importance of water and spoke about entrepreneurship to the Alumni. Apart from this, he mentioned a few key principles to be followed in life. He said – “There is no shortcut to success; persist and do not stop until you reach the goal; there is no substitution for hard work and finally never let anybody walkover you”.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman of Bhandary Foundation expressed his gratitude to the alumni for their contributions to the institution. He further advised the alumni that they can walk into the campus whenever they wish. Mr. Bhandary concluded his speech by stating that the alumni are the pride of Sahyadri.

Ms. Rashmi Bhandary, Head of Placements, in her concluding remarks gave a message to the Alumni - “Do well in life for you both professionally and personally”.

The inaugural programme was followed by fun-filled gala evening which included exciting games, camp fire and cultural extravaganza hosted by the MBA Students. The alumni cherished the chance to come back to their alma mater and relive their memories. They also appreciated the growth of the institution and assured to join hands and take Sahyadri to greater heights.

Civil Engineering Students & Team TRIGON carry out project at Government High School, AngaragundiCivil Engineering Students & Team TRIGON carry out project at Government High School, Angaragundi Civil Engineering students join hands with team "TRIGON" to execute an innovative project worth Rs. 30,000 at Government High School, Angaragundi. The project was funded by the NGO - Inchara Foundation. Project involved the construction of toilets which are economical, eco-friendly and easily repairable. It also involved the conversion of normal playground into a fun filled zone using scrap materials which are economical and recyclable. The team consisted of Alester from Mechanical Engineering; Shweta L.G, Jewin Maria DCunha and Vinson Daniel Almeida from Civil Engineering. Director of Inchara Foundation - Mr. Pritam Rodrigues had approached Dr. Premanand Shenoy and Prof. Sunil Kumar Rai, Dept. of Civil Engineering to seek help for this project. The project was assigned to students for execution and has now been successfully completed. Sahyadri is proud of the students’ achievement.

Sahyadrians secure 2nd Runners-Up in IESA – Makeathon 2018 held in New Delhi

StartUp India Karnataka Yatra Boot Camp at Sahyadri StartUp India Karnataka Yatra Boot Camp at Sahyadri “IESA Makeathon" an India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) initiative to enable the maker community in India drive technology innovation, is the largest designing event in South Asia. A total of 20 teams were selected from 36-hour overnight design challenge that spanned across 5 cities. Mr. Nithin T from the fifth semester Electronics & Communications Engineering and Mr. Pradeep Kumar from the Dept of Electronics & Communications Engineering jointly with RDL participated at the Bengaluru selection round and won the Golden Ticket for the Finale.

At the finale that was held in New Delhi, this team was judged as the 2nd Runners-up. The prize included plaque, incubation opportunities, and other benefits. This event provided the opportunity to network with industry leaders and innovators that would enable Sahyadri to benchmark and rise to Global standards.

Startup India Karnataka Yatra & Boot Camp at Sahyadri

Startup-India-Karnataka-Yatra-&-Boot-Camp-at-Sahyadri Dr. S Ramakrishna Sharma's Invited Talk in Yoga Shastra Sangamam in Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari The State Government of Karnataka has decided to play an active role in promoting the Startup India initiative taken by the Prime Minister Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi and has teamed up with Invest India, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) & SingEx Exhibitions (India) for the Startup Karnataka Yatra.

Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management was recommended by KTECH INNOVATION HUB (NAIN) as the venue for the Boot Camp for Mangaluru region and to provide all support for a successful Karnataka Yatra by Startup India.

The Startup Yatra Van was at the Sahyadri Campus. The students were presented a video regarding the startup opportunities and policies. Post this; Mr. Karandeep Singh addressed the students regarding the advantages of being an entrepreneur.

StartUp India Karnataka Yatra Boot Camp at Sahyadri Mr. Amit Sharma, Project Incharge of StartUp India Yatra and Mr. Ashok Dabla were at the campus to facilitate the “Train the Trainer” workshop for faculty members as a part of the Boot Camp of StartUp India Karnataka Yatra organized in collaboration with K-Tech Innovation Hub, MHRDs Innovation Cell, GOI and New Age Incubation Network (NAIN).

Mr. Amit Sharma works with SingEx Exhibitions India Pvt Ltd, a company owned by Singapore Government.

Students selected to participate in Grand Finale of Karnataka StartUp India Idea Competition in Bengaluru

StartUp India Karnataka Yatra Boot Camp at Sahyadri Students were selected from Sahyadri during the Startup India Boot Camp held at Sahyadri on 13th Dec' 18 in association with NAIN of Sahyadri. They will be participating in the Grand Finale of Karnataka State Startup India Idea Competition to be held at Bengaluri during 17th to 19th Dec' 18. Among the 11 teams selected, 8 are from First year BE and three from DT Labz, a great achievement. The result is due to the SSTH, SPSS, Hands-on and other social initiatives of the institution and collective efforts of First year faculty and our Startup teams Dreamers, Challengers and so on.

Girish R, Director of ITBT, Govt. of Karnataka visits Sahyadri

During his visit, he interacted with the Company Heads & also the Start-Up’s set up within the campus. During the interaction the representatives demonstrated the various products developed by their respective companies and discussed about their future Road Map. Mr. Girish was very encouraging and gave his inputs to take their projects to the next level. He also visited the NAIN Centre and had interaction with the faculty in-charge. Post this; he addressed the Faculty members about the activities carried out by Government of Karnataka to promote start-up culture among the student community. He gave various examples as to how few start-up enterprises have overtaken established institutions by adopting innovative ideas. He stimulated faculty members and informed them of the funds available without collateral to take up an entrepreneurial idea. He appreciated the institution for providing the necessary infrastructure to convert an idea into a product. Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Dean Research and Consultancy, introduced the guest to the gathering and briefed about the work he has accomplished being part of various departments. Mr. Girish was the Commissioner for Textile Development, Govt. of Karnataka. He also played a major role in Global Investor Meet held in the year 2010 and 2012. He was also a part of the delegation lead by Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka to take part in the World Economic Forum twice.

Sahyadrians took part in “Samvega 2018”

Sahyadrians-took-part-in-samvega-2018 Mr. Pushparaj A and Mr. Akarsh Shetty, the students from 3rd year Electronics and Communication Engineering had participated in Samvega 2k18 held at Ramakunja Degree College in Puttur. Samvega is an event which saw scientists from ISRO and IISC present their achievements and also showcase some of the science projects. Our students had an opportunity to interact with them and also showcase the product Dreamkit with the help of Rakesh Permudannaya, Project Assistant at IISC Bangalore.

A total of 147 students from first year MBA accompanied by 10 faculty members participated in the “Outbound Experiential Business Management Training Module” at ‘Nature Bound Sahyadri Camp’ in Ankola. The course was organized for value forming experiences through adventure and challenge, Compassion and Service, Learning through experience and Social & Environmental responsibility.

The course facilitated experiences through activities and games to get a practical insight to individual behaviour and group dynamics. The purpose was to reflect upon desired responses and experiment them in real time situations and further reflect on what to expect from future experiences. The students were divided into nine teams and each team was allotted with a trainer. As soon as the students entered into the camp they had to deposit all the gadgets and hence had to stay away from digital life for three days. The students also had to stay in tents.

At 6am every day, students had to be ready for jogging and warm-up only after which activities for the day began. The sessions would normally conclude only at around 12:30 mid-night.

Outbound Experiential Business Management Training The whole day event included activities related to communication, adventure and navigation in forest using navigation compass. It also included briefing sessions on personality development, smart thinking, development and application of strategies.

The students had to challenge themselves when they were tested with physical endurance and also logical thinking. Students returned with a positive feedback and also expressed their confidence to stay away from the digital gadgets for more hours. The course has definitely brought in changes in personal and professional behavioural pattern of students and helped in reinforcing the theories and principles studied in the classroom.

First Year MBAs visit Manipal Technologies, Manipal

A total of 60 students accompanied by faculty members – Prof. Girish Madla, Prof. Padmanabha B and Prof. Akshatha P visited Manipal Technologies Ltd, Manipal to develop a productive interface between industry and academia.

Mr. Raghuram, Head-HR of the Manipal Technologies guided the students and explained in detail the printing process. Major clients of MTL are Oxford, Indiannica, South India Bank, Andhra Bank etc. MTL employs more than 1500 labourers and has departments like pre-press, press, post-press and dispatch departments. An interactive question & answer session was held and all queries of the students were answered by the Head-HR.

Manipal Technologies Ltd, provides end to end secure print service such as security printing, variable data printing, digital printing, book printing, pre-media services, banking cards, smart cards, card management services, examination solutions etc. in a specialised offering solutions to banking, publishing, government, telecom, retail, pharma, FMCG etc. MTL is now serving customers across the globe and is having units in all metro cities in India, Kenya, Nigeria and Germany.

First Year MBAs visit Adani Power Plant and RMC Ready mix Dept. of Business Administration organized an industrial visit for a total of 60 first year MBA students to Adani Power Limited and RMC Readymix Pvt.Ltd. In Adani Power Plant, the students witnessed the enormous facility spread across 600 Acres. Adani Power Limited is the power business subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Adani Group with head office at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Mr. Vasanth, the HR Manager briefed the students on the operation of the plant. He also addressed the students about the operations at the HR Department answering all queries that students had relating to HR domain.

At RMC Readymix Pvt.Ltd., Baikampady, the HR-Head briefed the students about the various production methods and specifications of the products. He also took them around the production unit where the students witnessed production of RMC Ready mix. Students had good take away from both the companies.

Sri. B.H.V. Prasad, Group General Manager, (HR & CSR) MRPL, Mangaluru launched the seminars in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru; Swami Bodhamayanandaji, Director of Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence, Hyderabad; the Chief Guest Sri Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University; Special Invitee Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Former MLC and the Resource Person Dr. Vivek Modi, Corporate Trainer, Hyderabad.

In the first session, Swami Bodhamayanandaji spoke on Human Excellence. He stressed on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and encouraged students to read his experience. He stimulated the students by saying that they are spirit free Lions and should shake off the delusions. He urged students to have faith in themselves, have the attitude of giving generously and helping the needy on the streets. He said it is vital to have a clean mind-set.

The second session was by Dr. Vivek Modi who spoke on survival by being practical with a pure mindset. He spoke on challenges in concentration by sharing stories of how Vivekananda exhibited great concentration. When you have right focus your span of attention increases. The students were accompanied by all the first year HoDs and teaching faculty members; Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer and Mr Shreyas Jain, Student Welfare Officer from the Academics Department.

Students of First Year Engineering and Management (MBA) took part in the procession wearing costumes depicting the traditional dress of various states. The procession started from Nehru Maidan till Karavali Utsava Ground. The students participated in great zeal and enthusiasm. Karavali Utsava’s theme, this year focused on Mangaluru's heritage, culture and history. The Ten-Day fiesta aims to make Mangalureans nostalgic with memories of the past and also inform important milestones to the younger generation.

Sahyadrians pay homage to the heroes on the occasion of Vijay Diwas The Engineering and Management Students of Sahyadri paid their respects during the commemoration of Vijay Diwas at the War Memorial at Kadri Hills to our brave heart soldier who laid down their life for the honour of our Nation during the 1971 Indo–Pak War. Vijay Diwas was observed at the War Memorial at Kadri Hills here on December 16, Sunday to commemorate India’s win against Pakistan in the 1971 war. The programme was held under the aegis of the DK District Ex-servicemen’s Association, Lions Club International, Rotary International, Nitte Education Trust and Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust. The students were accompanied by Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer, Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor.

Ms. Marlin Martis, Director of Development Education Society (DEEDS), Kadri, Mangaluru was the resource person for the session. She spoke about the Fundamental Rights and major Laws relating to women, POSCO Act, Anti-Harassment Laws and Workplace women rights and laws. A total of 125 students will now participate in a Nation-wide competition on women laws which will be held in Sahyadri on Saturday 22nd Dec’18.

Caliper approved for supplying product assemblies to Defence

Mr. P. K. Arora, Jt GM & Mr. Durgalu, QC Manager, from Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi, Chennai (a Defence Establishment manufacturing armoured vehicles) audited Caliper to approve them for manufacturing product assemblies. After a detailed auditing, HVF has now approved Caliper for manufacturing product assemblies. Formal certificate will be issued soon. This is yet another step forward in Caliper’s journey to be a part of India’s elite manufacturing companies. They also interacted with Mr. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, visited RDL, DT Labs, Aptra & were taken around the college campus.

Meghana from the Department of Information Science & Engineering and Krithesh Bhandary from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering have been selected by Caliber Technologies for the position of Trainee Software Engineer in the recently held Campus Recruitment drive at Sahyadri for the 2019 outgoing batch.

He interacted with Mr. Raghavendra Shetty and staff members about the products developed by RDL Technologies on various platforms. He shared his knowledge and gave suggestions for improvement. He also visited other companies and start-ups within the campus and appreciated the work carried out by the institution in such a short span of time.

Mr. Ravi Gururaj, has completed his Computer Science & Engineering from University of Pennsylvania and also MBA from Harvard Business School. He is the President of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) and member of Executive Council and Product Council at NASSCOM.

Mr. Deshik Bharadwaj from the Department of Information Science & Engineering from 2018 passed out batch was recruited by AURIGO Software Technologies Inc. for the position of 'Quality Engineer' with a package of Rs. 5.5 Lakhs per annum in the recently held Off-Campus Drive in Bengaluru.

Aurigo is a global software company that provides cloud based capital program and project portfolio management software solutions for large capital infrastructure owners in the public and private sector industries.

Mr. Somnath Jogi, the Managing Director, accompanied by Mr. Gururaja Hegde, the Director from the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 42 students from pool colleges participated in the drive & the results are awaited.

International Admission Representative for Bard College New York, visited Sahyadri Mr. Pranjal Ghate, International Admission Representative for Bard College New York, visited Sahyadri and addressed the MBA students. In his address he informed the students about the opportunities available in foreign university to do higher studies, preparation needed and how to apply for scholarship which eventually reduces the cost of studying abroad. He also talked about the teaching methodology followed in American Universities. He has acquired his Bachelors in Arts from Bard College, New York, majoring in Economics.

MBA students visit Deputy Commissioner’s office as a part of Real-Time Off–Text Book Learning To give a practical real-time experience of the operations at the government and civil department, a total of 7 MBA students namely Mithun, Usha , Ashvija, Ashray Nayak, Gautham, Madhuri and Kavya, visited the District Deputy Commissioners Office to observe and interact with the officials and learn the operations of various Government departments and Civil bodies. The visit was organized with an objective to receive firsthand information about the critical departments that the students may need help in their day to day affair. As this essential information is rarely available in textbook, these visits give the students an opportunity to learn the transaction of the real world. The student will be visiting various government offices such as Taluk Office, City Corporation, Panchayat Office etc., once every week. These visits are planned and supervised by the Mentor of these students - Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor and Faculty of Humanities.

Friendly Cricket Match between Police Commissioner Mangalore XI and Superintendent of Police, Mangalore Sahyadri hosted a friendly cricket match - Police Commissioner XI Vs Superintendent of Police (SP) XI at Sahyadri Cricket Ground. The event had the presence of top officials from the police department, who took their time out from their schedule to participate in this cricket match.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Arun Chakravarthy headed the team from SP XI and played a crucial role in the teams winning performance against the Commissioner XI. Mr. Arun Chakravarthy along with his team Dr. B R Ravikanthe Gowda, Superintendent of Police; Mr. S Rishikesh Bhagawan IPS, Assistant Superintendent of Police; Mr. Hanumantharaya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order); Mr. Srinivas B S, Deputy Superintendent of Police; Mr. V J Sajeeth, Additional Superintendent of Police participated in the match and also explored the academic and corporate setup at the campus.

IGP Mr. Arun Chakravarthy specially expressed his happiness after witnessing the learning infrastructure created at the campus and was on all praise witnessing the startups and industries in the campus.

To enable students to pursue a specific career path, their areas of interest and passion, Pratian has tested framework for Content creation, assessment and specific competency development in an iterative manner. The team met Mr. Subramanian Sivakumar – CEO; Ms. Priyanka Grover – Vice President and their team to understand the learning and assessment framework and also the offerings in the Cloud and Healthcare Business. This visit has strengthened the relationship to work together with the organization that would enable Sahyadri to be the front runner in various student-centric innovations leading to employment of our students.

MBAs attend a session on Data Analytics Prof. H V Dinesh, Principal of Noble School of Business, Bengaluru, facilitated a session on Data Analytics for the students of 1st year MBA. Prof. Dinesh is an M.Sc in Statistics, an MBA and also a PhD holder. He has 30 years of teaching experience. He introduced the students to Data Analytics, a highly demanding skill in MBAs.

• Firstly, students were made comfortable with the term “Analytics” as it is not something new and they have been working on it right from their school – Statistics.
