British Deputy High Commissioner visits SahyadriBritish Deputy High Commissioner visits Sahyadri Mr. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner visited Sahyadri along with his colleague Mr. Manjunath K Sripathy, Political Economy Advisor of British Deputy High Commission, Bengaluru. He spoke to the Higher semester Engineering students about United Kingdom’s engagement of Next Gen Students through Chevening Scholarship which is a UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme offers awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study master’s degree in any subject at any UK university. A Chevening Scholarship normally covers university tuition fees, a monthly stipend, travel costs to and from the UK, an arrival allowance, a homeward departure allowance, the cost of one visa application, and a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK. He explained the vast opportunities that are waiting for students who wish to pursue their Higher education in UK. Prof. M B Gururaj from the State University of New York, USA visited Sahyadri and interacted with Mr. ManjunathBhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal & other faculty members of Sahyadri on matters related to high quality technical education in IT & Non-IT domains. They appreciated the effort of entire team for distinct initiatives of Sahyadri.

Suprajit Engineering Ltd (SEL) was established in 1985 by Mr. Ajith Kumar Rai and started manufacturing high quality liner cables as per Japanese standards for the automotive industry in 1987. Today, it caters to a wide spectrum of automotive and non-automotive cable requirements and achieved phenomenal growth, making it India's largest manufacturer of automotive cables. Mr. Ajith Kumar Rai set up SEL after completing Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Canada. Mr. Rai is the Managing Director of both SEL, Suprajit Chemicals Pvt Ltd and Chairman of Suprawin Technologies Ltd. He has done his BE. in Mechanical Engineering from Mysore and is the member of HE, Cll, ACMA, IGCC and RCBI. SEL started as an auto-ancillary to TVS Motors in 1987 for supply of cables and graduated into supplying cables for requirements for all two-wheeler players. In the last three to four years, the company has ventured into the four-wheeler market and now supplies to majors like Tata Motors, Hyundai Motors India, Ford India and General Motors as a Tier-l or Tier-ll supplier. The company has six manufacturing plants with employee strength of 600-700.

Mr. AkhileshRai is the Head of Information Technology at Suprajit and is also pursuing his Master’s in Business Administration from London Business School, UK. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, USA after his schooling at MallyaAditi International School, Bengaluru.

Union Budget & State Budget 2018 - Presentation by MBAs

Union Budget 2018 LIVE Streaming Presentation & Discussion on “Union Budget & State Budget - 2018” was organized by the Department of Business Administration. This programme analyzed the positive pushes of the government guided by the mission to strengthen agriculture, rural development, health, education, employment, industry and infrastructure sectors. The major thrust area of the budget was to achieve over 8 % growth as manufacturing, services and exports back on good growth path. The budget session started with a formal inauguration.

The programme was conducted in two sessions. The first session was dedicated to Union Budget and the second session was on State Budget. 1st Year MBA students presented the “Union Budget & State Budget - 2018” covering distinct sectors viz. Education, Health Care & Social Welfare Programmes, Agriculture & Rural Development, Infrastructure & MSME. The panel consisted of subject experts - Dr. RadhakrishnaShetty, Head, Dept. of Economics, Sri Mahaveera College, Moodbidri, Mr. M N Pai, Chartered Accountant & Prof. BanuPrakash, Professor of Commerce, SDM College, Ujire who shared their views and added insights to the budget presentation. During the deliberation Mr. M N Pai shared his view point on the current budget & also spoke on the hits & misses in various sectors. Dr. Radhakrishna specifically spoke on rural economy and agriculture. He said that the current budget is having a long term vision and the concentration was on Education, Health & Rural areas.

Dr. Steven L. Fernandes is selected as Postdoctoral Researcher for NIH project at USA

Dr. Steven L Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is selected as Postdoctoral Researcher for National Institutes of Health (NIH) project. He would be working in the area of Medical Image Processing for a period of 1 year at the University of Alabama Birmingham, USA.

RUSTATHON2K18 135 students from various institutes in and around Mangaluru attended the Rustathon2K18, a workshop organized by Mozilla club in association with SHINE, Sahyadri Hub of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and New Age Incubation Network (NAIN).

Rust is a systems programming language important to the future of the web. It runs blazingly fast, prevents segfaults, and guarantees thread safety. It is a programming language that’s focused on safety, speed, and concurrency. Its design lets you create programmes that have the performance and control of a low-level language, but with the powerful abstractions of a high-level language. It was with the intention of bringing about awareness about this language that brought in Rustathon.

The Meet started off with aMarch-past by the students. The chief guest hoisted the flag, delivered her inaugural address and declared the Meet open. Various athletic events andfun games were held for the students. All the winners were felicitated on the same day.

Sahyadrians win Gold Award for ‘SMART HELMET’ in KPIT Sparkle 2018 at PimpriChinchwad College of Engineering, Pune

Sahyadrians win Gold AwardSahyadrians win Gold Award The 'SMART HELMET' concept representing Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has won the ‘Gold Award’ in the Grand finale of KPIT Sparkle 2018, one of the largest and most reputed innovation contests. The team has received a trophy, medals and cash prize of Rs. 5 Lakhs. The Award was conferred to them by Mr. Harkesh Mittal, Adviser, Member Secretary, National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) in the august presence of Dr. K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as the chief guest of the event. The ‘Platinum Award’ was won by IIT, Kharagpur for developing a flexible and disposable battery by using bacteria from sewage water along with a cash prize of Rs. 10 Lakhs.

The Grand Finale of KPIT Sparkle 2018 witnessed Top 30 products which were selected through 4 rounds of rigorous scrutiny out of 12,000 applications received this year from more than 600 engineering and science colleges including 63 out of 100 top institutes of India and 28 premier institutes like IIT’s and NIT’s. The selection was based on the novelty, affordability, and commercial viability of the proposed ideas. It was an honour for Sahyadrians to participate in such a reputed event, compete against other premier universities and also get recognised nationally.

Dr. S Ramakrishna Sharma Chaired a Session Dr. S Ramakrishna Sharma, Adjunct Professor of Indian Scientific Heritage, Dept. of Humanities chaired a session during Three-Day International Conference on Ancient Applied Wisdom for Transformational Leadership held in the University of Delhi. On the Day Two – Dr. Sharma chaired a session in which he also presented his paper titled "AAW for TL: Tantra Perspective". It was well received and drew the attention of international scholars. Dr. K V Joshi, Dept of Sanskrit, SOL, Delhi University is keen on organizing research activities of Dr. Sharma.
