CTO of Pratian Technologies visits Sahyadri to sign an MOU on Sahyadri-Pratian Innovation Ecosystem CTO of Pratian Technologies visits Sahyadri to sign an MOU on Sahyadri-Pratian Innovation Ecosystem Mr. Krishna Kumar, Chief Technology Officer of Pratian Technologies visited Sahyadri and interacted with Students, Faculty and Management. He presented on the Pratian Global Innovation (PGI) Lab which would be set up in the Campus and said that Sahyadri is going to pioneer as the Innovation Centre. Highlighting the current Education System he said that Education is now going to be inter-disciplinary and it is no more about the degree but about imparting skills. He also brought to light the emergence of online universities. He highlighted the efforts of Pratian in creating pool of Talents to meet the need of Employability, Deployability and Billability and thereby overcome these challenges. He further clarified that the Pratian Ecosystem includes Learning Skills, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He concluded stating that each one has infinite potential in them and urged the faculty and students to choose from the various natural abilities and further collaborate with PGI Ecosystem which intends to set up Development Labs, R&D Labs and Entrepreneurship Cell at Sahyadri.

Dream Kit by DTi Labz Pvt. Ltd. gets selected to the Nationals of Boeing India Startup Challenge

Dream Kit by DTi Labz Pvt. Ltd Mr. Aashish U S of final year Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mr. Prajwal Shetty of second year Mechanical Engineering also the interns of DTlabz and DTi Labz Private Limited participated in a Startup Hyper-Accelerator programme at Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre in IIT Gandhinagar.

IIT Gandhinagar Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IIEC) is promoted by IIT Gandhinagar to implement the overall strategy of incubation, IP management, commercialization and to implement entrepreneurship and innovation development programs.

The Five-Day Hyper accelerator program was an opportunity for technology start-ups to understand the investors' perspective and an intense program for understanding the topics like Market Validation, Lean Business Models, Fund Raising Techniques, Valuation, Pitch Deck, Due diligence, Term Sheets, Sales and Marketing Plans, Strategic Planning, Intellectual Property, Negotiation and Exit strategy.

On the final day, Mr. Aashish and Mr. Prajwal Shetty received an opportunity to pitch their startup and the product Dream Kit to 3Lines Venture Capital and IITGN Boeing India Start Up Challenge jury panel. The team has been selected in the top 5 start ups shortlisted to participate in the Boeing India Start Up Challenge at the national level. The students were supported and completely funded by DTlabz to attend this event. Students had a great learning experience and exposure throughout the event.

Dream Kit selected in the top 3 of VAA Startup Quest Biz Pitch 2019 DTi Labz Private Limited represented by the interns Mr. Aashish and Mr. Pushparaj Adka of final year and third year Electronics and Communication Engineering respectively have been selected to pitch their product Dream Kit in the VAA Startup Quest Biz Pitch event organized by World Konkani Association (WKA), Mangaluru.

Out of the 10 startup teams participated, DTi Labz Private Limited were one of the top 3 participants selected by the jury panel of Mr. Rajesh Kamath from Infosys and Mr. Prashanth, CEO and Founder of Mangalore Infotech. The team was awarded with a cash prize of 10,000 INR.

The Biz Pitch event was organized as a part of the annual event 'Prerna' by World Konkani Association. The winners were felicitated with the prize amount in Prerna 2019 by Padmashree T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global. It was a great learning experience and exposure for the students and the Dream Kit team.

Pranamya A Y and Rakshith Karumbaiah of 4th year Information Science and Engineering; Poorvika of 2nd year Information Science and Engineering; Akshay P N of 4th Year Mechanical Engineering; Shanker R Kumar, Abdhul Shameer, Nikhil Narayanan, Shakshi Kumari of 3rd year Mechanical Engineering; Shamanth S Gowda from 3rd year Electronics and Communication Engineering; Manish E S and Swathi of 2nd Year Electronics and Communication Engineering; Pramod Kumar K of 3rd year Computer science and Engineering; Prayag Raj, Likhith R Kulal, Jaison Dsouza of 2nd Year Computer science and Engineering and Vaishnavi of 2nd Year Civil Engineering have participated in the event.

These students took part in events such as Eurekha, Math Olympid, Relic Hunt, Droid Blitz, Laws of motion, Crusade, Zenith, Sand Rover, Snapit, and Workshop. Pranamya A Y, Rakshith Karumbaih and Akshay P N have secured First Prize in Eurekha event i.e Paper presentation on their Innovative Idea.

Sahyadri receives guests from J.R. Group of Companies Dr. K.J. Purushotham, Managing Director; and Dr. S.R. Nagaraj, Chairman - J.R. Group of Companies visited Sahyadri. They were received with warmth by our Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. The guests interacted with the chairman and the management. Concurrently, they visited the various departments and their respective innovation centres. The guests were awestruck with the fact that Sahyadri is creating such an ambience for the youngsters to be innovators. They adequately praised our chairman on his excellent commitment towards building such a great institute.

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) visits Sahyadri

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) visits Sahyadri Commandant Kaustubh Mulye and his team of assistant commandants viz. Dhaneswaran, Siddharth and Rahul Sharma visited Sahyadri to give an orientation talk on the opportunities in Indian Coast Guard and recruitment process. Several students and faculties attended the talk. The team met and interacted with all the in-house industries and expressed their views and appreciation in the institution’s effort in putting ideas and skills into real time projects.

ICG is the fourth biggest in the world and has 14 district headquarters and 5 regional headquarters. Mangalore is the third headquarter after Porbandar and Mumbai. ICG carries out operations on air, land and sea during both peace and war times. They maintain the water boundary of 200 nautical miles around the Indian coast. Their functions include Disaster and pollution management, anti-piracy and smuggling prevention, protection of maritime environment and also providing aid to disaster victims.

He interacted with the faculties of Computer Science & Engineering as well as Information Science & Engineering.

In the discussion that ensued, Prof. Lingaraju spoke about matters related to The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and went on to explain how NBA evolved through the ‘Washington Accord’, an International Agreement among bodies responsible for accrediting undergraduate engineering degree programs.

Furthermore, Prof. Lingaraju also gave an overview of the Outcome Based Education (OBE) and went on to say that OBE is an educational theory that bases each part of an educational system around goals. He stressed on the vision and mission of the college and the department. He related each NBA criteria through some real life examples. He also shared story of his inspiring journey and subsequent success stories.

Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, and Dr. Rajesha S. Dean, Academics also took part in the interaction. Members of Sahyadri NBA Cell were also present and carried out discussions with him.

Dr. Raghunandan, District Surgeon, McGann Hospital, visited Sahyadri

Dr. Raghunandan, District Surgeon, McGann Hospital, visited Sahyadri Sahyadri is graced by the visit of Dr. Raghunandan, a renowned District Surgeon from McGann Hospital, Shimoga. McGann Hospital is government run hospital and part of the Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences. It is named after a famous surgeon from the UK named T.G. McGann. As a district surgeon, Dr. Raghunandan’s duties involve providing guidance to officers and health institution staff under the District Medical and Health Office; and liaising with other district as well as higher authorities in health aspects.

Visitors to Sahyadri have always come from different fields. Sahyadri has hosted educationists, businessmen, politicians and also doctors in the past. And as is customary the guests have been received at the campus with warmth and cordiality.

Dr. Raghunandan having received a similar welcome had a fruitful interaction with the chairman and management. The chairman accompanied Dr. Raghunandan around the campus and talked to him about the campus’ biggest achievements and academic accomplishments.

Dr. Raghunandan visited various departments, labs, innovation centres and start-ups. He had deep admiration for the student-centric initiatives undertaken by the college. Further, he was impressed with the robust infrastructure and said it is praiseworthy. He lauded the chairman for the unique education system established at Sahyadri.

He was accompanied by Dr. Shrikanth Rao S.K., Professor and Head, Department of Electronics & Communication, VCET. Our chairman received the guests with warmth and cordiality. The chairman was too happy to take the guests around the campus and talk to them about the various achievements of the college ever since its inception. They interacted with the management too.

The VCET guests visited and viewed the innovative labs, in-house start-ups and student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri. On having visited these, they turned in unison towards the chairman and lauded him for the unique education set-up established at Sahyadri.

Chairman of SKF Boilers and Driers Pvt Ltd visits the Mechanical Engineering Department


Sahyadri Mechanical Engineering Department is graced by a visitor Mr G. Ramakrishna Achar, Chairman & Managing Director, SKF Boilers and Driers Pvt Ltd, Belavi, Moodabidri visited Sahyadri and interacted with faculty of Mechanical Engineering. During the interaction he spoke extensively on the importance of water resource management and sewage treatment plant. He also spoke on grain science technology and made a suggestion Sahyadri to float a couple of courses on the topic.

Furthermore, Mr. Achar also extended his whole-hearted support to build an in-house production center that would manufacture water purifiers. The department also explored the possibilities of setting up a skill development centre that would train students and faculty in the field of food processing. The programme is conducted under the patronage of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

Sahyadri celebrates IETE Students day The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) celebrated IETE Students’ Day. February 1st is observed every year as IETE Students’ Day as per IETE guidelines. The event was celebrated with zeal and zest at Sahyadri.

Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India's leading professional society devoted to the advancement of science in electronics & communication, information technology, computer science and other disciplines. On 10th November 2018, under the guidance of Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal the IETE Students’ Forum and PAC was established in Sahyadri.

The day began with a series of competitions and activities organized by the IFS committee and AENCES office bearers, the various activities held were:

5. Technical Presentation by Team Challengers

The day's formal function was graced by Prof. S.S Balakrishna, Vice Principal, Mr. Raghavendra Shetty, CEO, RDL Technologies, Dr. Ashwath Rao, HoD of Electronics & Communication and Mrs. Megha N, ISF Coordinator. The presidential address was delivered by the Vice Principal who was delighted to see the ISF, Sahyadri Wing flourish and grow. He also encouraged the students to take an active part in all the events held at the college. The guest of honor Mr. Raghavendra Shetty spoke vividly about connecting industries to the students. Dr. Ashwath Rao shared his wisdom and spoke about the impact of disruptive, groundbreaking innovations and technologies. All the students from the department of ECE participated in the various events with much enthusiasm.

Engineering Students attend two days State level NSS Seminar at Hiruyadka, Udupi Sowmya K. and Sharath Kumar K. from Civil Engineering Department, and Ankitha from Electronics and Communication Department along with Mrs. Shreelatha U.A., NSS Programme Officer, attended two days State Level NSS Seminar on “Ideas of Dr B.R. Ambedkar” at Government First Grade College Hiriyadka, Udupi.

The seminar was jointly organized by Karnataka State National Service Scheme Cell, Department of Youth Welfare & Sports, and Mangalore University NSS Unit. The two days seminar highlighted various issues like thoughts of Dr. Ambedkar on political system, thoughts and intent of constitution and challenges in equity.

Mr. Abhishekh Bangera, an alumnus from the 2014-2018 Batch visited the campus and interacted with the third year students.
Mr. Bangera is presently working as a Python Tester in Mphasis, Bengaluru. He shared his industrial experience and discussed about the challenges faced in adapting to the industrial environment. He gave a glimpse of the various projects he has worked on, in Mphasis. He encouraged the students to inculcate the habit of learning new skills. He also stressed on the fact that learning is a never ending process and advised the students to focus on project based learning.

Team Sahyadri Motorsport to participate at the Indian Karting Championship-3 Event to be held in Maharashtra Team Sahyadri Motorsport participated at the Indian Karting Championship-3 event to be held at Kolhapur Maharashtra during 14th Feb to 17th Feb 2019. This team consisted of over 25 students led by Ashwith Mendonca from eighth semester of Mechanical Engineering.

The Indian Karting Championship is an intercollegiate engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The objective of the competition is to implement good engineering practices. Each participating student would learn, innovate and gain the experience of team work, leadership and technical skill. It also aimed to provide an opportunity for students to be recognized at the national level for research and development careers in automotive engineering.

He is an MBA from Leeds Business School, UK. He completed his studies at London School of Economics and is also a Post Graduate in Personnel Management from MG University, Kerala. He is a noted corporate trainer, motivational speaker and a visiting faculty of many Management Schools.
During his talk, he emphasized on the importance of Human Values and Ethics to lead a successful life and contribute towards Nation Building. He shared anecdotes of great people like Sir M Visvesvaraya and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on how their hard work and sacrifice made them legends for their contribution in building a stronger nation. His session was power packed and the participants were highly motivated by his thoughts and ideas. He re-iterated the students and faculty of their own power and values which is inherited from the culture and tradition of the nation.

ECE students qualify for the Quarter Finals of IICDC2018

ABHISHEK-UABHISHEK-KUMAR-DUBEYK-CHIRAG-RAOFEBIN-PHILIX Abhishek U, Abhishek Dubey, K Chirag Rao and Febin Philix – Students of final year Electronics & Communication Engineering qualify for the quarter final round of IICDC 2018 with Team ID 360370 and received 200$ Texas Instrument products for further development of the project. Texas Instruments in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST) announced the DST & Texas Instruments India Innovation Challenge Design Contest 2018 anchored by NSRCEL, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) and supported by MyGov. This contest is open for all Indian engineering students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate & Doctoral degrees with Indian engineering colleges. The team is all set to submit the project for Quarter Finals before the deadline of March 25th 2019.

The students and staff of Sahyadri participated in the Shramadhan at Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple as of part of Sahyadri NSS Unit community service programme. More than 40 students and Staff volunteers engaged themselves in clearing out the debris from the temple’s construction site and cleaned the surroundings of the temple premises. The volunteers involved themselves enthusiastically in the service. Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation and Ms. Shreelatha U A, NSS Programme Coordinator & Academic Administrative Officer coordinated the programme. The temple management and the general public were pleased by the volunteering efforts at the temple premises.

A Three-Day Orientation Course in Value Education was organized at Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE), Mysore. A total of 29 Sahyadrians comprising of teaching and non-teaching staff attended this programme.

Day One started with a session “Siachen Glacier – Past, Present and Future” by Col. Mahendra Babu. He spoke about the unforgiving Siachen Glacier and the life of Indian soldiers who are defending the world's most dangerous battlefield to save our Motherland. The second session was by Dr. K. Anantharamu on “Values of Life”. He explained the topic by giving the fittest illustrations and by narration of short stories.

The afternoon session was on the topic “Yogic Walk towards Total Wellness”, by Dr. Raghavendra Pai. Dr. Pai gave a glimpse on how to keep oneself well and fit by doing Yoga. Post this; there was a tour of the campus, after which short films were shown on the life of two renowned personalities. The moral imparted through these films is how to keep moving forward relentlessly even in extremely trying times.

On Day Two there was a rejuvenating session on “How to Face Challenges in Life” by Sri Subramanyam. He spoke on how to face various challenges that life throws in our path. Only when we bravely face them it can change our life. Next, was a session on “Leadership Qualities” by Sri D.T. Ramanujam. This session was a stress buster with a touch of humour. He explained about the inherent attributes that make great leaders. The afternoon session was on the topic “Constitutional Values” by Prof. Suresh Kumar. This was an eye-opener for those who have very little or no knowledge on the topic.

Day Three started with the visit to RIMSE’s gigantic library and museum of international acclaim. The museum showcases the multicultural offerings of our dynamic country. The programme was concluded with a formal valedictory function. The participants shared their experiences at RIMSE. On the whole this programme was a cultural journey of Indian core values like Constitutional values and Democracy, Yoga, Vasudaiva Kutumbakam, Atithi Devo Bhava and Spiritual Path.

IoT Challenge 2019 at Sahyadri IoT Challenge 2019 at Sahyadri IOT Challenge 2019 organized by Dept. of Information Science and Engineering was inaugurated by the Chief Guest - Mr. Ameer, Embedded Trainer, i3indya Technologies in the presence of the Principal - Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte. During the Day One, Mr. Ameer held an interaction session with faculty on IOT (Internet of Things). Later, a Workshop on IoT was held which had 110 participants from 10 different colleges comprising of 30 teams. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Ameer along with Mr. Sudhanshu who is also a Trainer.

Hackathon was organised as a part of IoT Challenge 2019 to qualify the participants for the Prelims to be held during “RADIANCE 2019” - Annual Research and Technical Symposium of Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay, which will be during 16-17 March, 2019. Six teams of 20 participants were selected for IIT Bombay finals, out of which 8 are from Sahyadri.

The teams comprised of participants from Sahyadri, NITK – Surathkal, Srinivas College – Valachil, PESITM - Shimoga, Dayanand Sagar University and Presidency University of Bangalore.

In view of encouraging the students of the department to pursue higher education and competitive examinations, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering organized an Awareness Programme on GATE. Prof. Ananth Pai, Proprietor & Faculty-Academy in Pursuit of Engineering Excellence (APEX) facilitated the session. In his session, he briefed about the importance of GATE in the career growth, core subjects involved in the competitive exams, information about reference sources and also the opportunities after clearing competitive exams.

Division F, District 92 of Toastmasters International had an exuberant Division Conference, CONFAB 2019 and EMPARCH 2019, at Sahyadri campus.

CONFAB 2019 comprised of International Speech Contest, Evaluation Contest and Table Topics and - an event exclusively meant for college students. It was vibrant and brilliant to see the enthusiasm and flamboyant extravaganza in this event. Mr Samarth Shenoy from Sahyadri Toastmasters Club who qualified at the Area level participated and put up a good fight. We congratulate him for his effort and wish him the best for his future endeavours.

EMPARCH is an initiative by District 92 of Toastmasters International, to encourage college students in public speaking. We had 8 colleges who participated in the contest enthusiastically. The events comprised of Improv, Turncoat and Humorous Speech. Improv is a contest where students have come up with their own imagination. In the Turncoat contest Shagufa Bava of Sahyadri won third place.

The six contests through the day were a wonderful learning experience in building excellent communication and leadership skills. Sahyadri Toastmasters Club also won two awards; Fast Five Award for achieving Five DC points and Fast 50 for more than fifty percent members enrolling into the Pathways Program.

In joint collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Institute of Electrical and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Department of Electronics & Communication, Sahyadri and RDL Technologies; and as a part of Industry & Academic Interaction, a One-day exhibition on IoT & Embedded System was conducted at the Department of Electronics & Communication, Sahyadri Campus.

The exhibition witnessed the active participation of more than 40+ batches of final year engineering students. The students demonstrated the products at the exhibition. The second and third year students utilized their time in knowing the technical details and understanding the various applications of IOT and Embedded Systems in real life. The exhibition was arranged under three segments such as Industrial Sensors, Development & Prototyping and Products.

Motive of the exhibition was to create awareness among students about recent ongoing research, issues and challenges faced by industry and solutions for the same. Final Year students familiarised themselves with the various industrial products and solutions along with the driving technology to further transfer the knowledge gained by them to the next generation of young students. Large number of students visited the exhibition. The students got motivated to involve in industry-academic research activities which helps to bring out budding entrepreneurial talents to foreground. More than 500 audience visited the exhibition to take advantage of the same.

RDL Technologies made the excellent full-fledged arrangement to the exhibition by providing essential sensors, development boards, and products invented by them along with the whole day support by the entire RDL Team.

Event coordinators acknowledged gratefully the various departments who collaborated to conduct this exhibition successful. Grateful thanks are also extended to one and all who supported the exhibition in every way possible.

Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering organized a workshop on “Research Paper Publication and its importance” for final year students. The first session was facilitated by Prof. Bharath Bhushan, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering in which he emphasized on skills needed to write a Research Paper for reputed indexed journals. He also gave information about the standards of various journals and conferences. This was followed by hands-on session on Paper and Report writing skills using Latex by Dr. Pushpalatha K, Dept of Computer Science & Engineering. LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system which includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation.

Officer from IIM Indore visits the MBA Department Mr. K V Satyanathan Nambiar, Officer from IIM Indore visited the Dept. of Business Administration-MBA and had a discussion with Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA.

In September 2018, a total of 22 students from the MBA department took part in a Management Fest organized at IIM Indore. On viewing the registration list and learning that students from Mangaluru are participating in the Management Fest, Mr. Satyanathan was overwhelmed and made sure our students get the best hospitality which further strengthened the bond between IIM Indore and Sahyadri. On his personal visit to Mangaluru this time along with his spouse, he made it a point to visit Sahyadri as he had heard of our institution from our students. He was taken around the campus, made to view the in-house start-ups and industries and also the various student-centric initiatives. He was amazed to see what Sahyadri has to offer for its students and also the community and appreciated the Management, Staff and students.

Mr. Nambiar has further assured to get us connected to the MDP coordinator of IIM Indore for customized programmes on upskilling the MBA faculty.

Seers of Ramakrishna Math visit Sahyadri

Seers-of-Ramakrishna-Math-visit-Sahyadri-College Swami Jnana Sudhanandaji of the Ramakrishna Centre Headquarters, Belur Math and Swami Jithakamanandaji, Adhyaksha - Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore visited the campus and interacted with the management. They witnessed the learning infrastructure created at the campus and were filled with admiration. The seers visited various departments and viewed their respective innovative labs, in-house startups and student-centric initiatives undertaken at the campus. They were fascinated with institutions attempt to bridge the Industry Academia gaps through hands-on experience facilities to the students.

The seers appreciated Sahyadri initiatives to provide the best exposure to the students.

VTU Inter collegiate Cross Country competition results

VTU Inter collegiate Cross Country competition results Sahyadri team comprising both of boys and girls participated in VTU Inter-collegiate State Level Cross Country Competition held in Anjuman Institute of Technology and Management, Bhatkal.

Sushma, a 8th Semester student of Electronics & Communication Engineering won 3rd Place in 10 kilometres Cross Country Race. While the Girls’ team won 1st Runner-up Trophy, the Boys’ team bagged the 4th place.

VTU Power Lifting Men’s and Women’s Team participate in The All India Inter-University Power Lifting competition

Workshop on Big Data Analytics using Hadoop A workshop on "Big Data Analytics using Hadoop" was conducted by the Dept. of Information Science and Engineering in association with STAISE, ISTE and IEI. The resource person of the workshop was Prof. Manjunath Mulimani, Research Scholar, NITK Surathkal. He gave an introduction to Big Data Analytics and conducted hands-on session on “MapReduce Programming for Big Data Analytics using Python”. He also discussed the topics such as MapReduce and Data Transformation, MapReduce Programming Model, Workflow of MapReduce, Running MapReduce Job and Hadoop versions.

First Year Engineering Students attend Three-Day Camp at World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru

Three-Day Camp at World Konkani Centre Vineet Nayak S, M Vishwas Kamath, K Samarth N Kamath, Karthik and Vrashank Rao from first year engineering attended the Three-Day Camp at World Konkani Centre, Shakti Nagar, Mangaluru. This camp focused primarily on Self Development, Communication Skills and Leadership ability. It also included a Webinar with the students pursuing their Master in the United States of America. These 5 students were at the peak with full dedication and excitement during the three-day event. It also helped in building connectivity among most of the students from different parts of the country. This centre, started in the year 2009 provides scholarship opportunities to various konkani speaking students every year and grooms them as future leaders.

Mr. Someshwar Rao Kola, Faculty, Academy in Pursuit of Engineering Excellence (APEX) emphasized on the importance of attempting GATE exams. He also stated that it is a benchmarking criterion in Private Sector companies and employment in Public Sector Units (PSUs).

Mr. Someshwar Rao Kola educated the students on how to crack GATE facilities provided by APEX and also the exam pattern.

IMA organized Floodlight Cricket Tournament at Sahyadri River-Side Cricket Stadium The Mangaluru branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has organized a floodlight cricket tournament at Sahyadri River-Side Cricket Stadium. Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nitte University Dr. M Shantharam Shetty inaugurated the tournament. The tournament saw participation from six teams. ‘Hansi's Hurricanes’ emerged as the Winner and ‘Pavan's Panthers’ were the Runners-Up. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman of Bhandary Foundation was the Guest during the Valedictory Ceremony and distributed the Trophy and Cash Prize to the Winners.

Students participate in Startup Dailogue Mr. Akarsh Shetty of 3rd Year Electronics and Communication Engineering and Ms. Akshata R.N of 2nd Year Information Science and Engineering from DTlabz and DTiLabz Private Limited participate in Startup Dialogue, Spirit of Entrepreneurship in SANDBOX startup , Hubballi.

Startup Dialouge intends to create a platform for all the stakeholders of Indian Startup Echosystem to come together and celebrate the spirit of Enterpreneurship. Speakers were Dr. Gururaj Deshpande, President & Chairman, Sparta Group LLC, who is also Chairman of Tejas Networks and Deshpande Foundation, Mr. Ramanan Ramanathan, Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission and last but not least Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, Founder & Former Chairman, Infosys and many more dignitaries.

Mr. Akarsh and Ms. Akshata got an opportunity to interact with Ramanan Ramanathan. They attended the Power talk “Mantra for Scaling” by T.N. Hari, Head, Human Resources, BigBasket; and also “Lean Starup” Workshop by Anand K.V., Ex. Senior Vice President, Flipcart. Students had a great learning experience in Living Laboratory for Entrepreneurs.

Civil Engineering Students on a Site Visit

Civil-Engineering-Students-on-a-Site-Visit Students of eighth semester Civil Engineering visited a flyover construction site across Konkan Railways at Jokatte, Mangaluru which involves prestressed and precast construction carried out by Skycell Towers and Infrastructure Ltd., Mangaluru. Er. Arun Prabha, Proprietor & Consulting Engineer, Skycell Towers and Infrastructure Ltd., escorted the students and faculty members. Er. Arun Prabha highlighted about the various protocols followed in the construction of precast and prestressed fly over system and also explained in detail the various components and units involved in it.

Er. Sathyaranjan Rao, Consulting Engineer, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, Mangaluru Chapter; Er. Shamshuddin and Er. Ranjith, Site Engineers, Skycell Towers and Infrastructure Ltd., accompanied the students and faculty members throughout the visit. Students interacted with the site engineers regarding various aspects of flyover construction. Prof. Geetha S D and Prof. Deepthishree S A from the Department of Civil Engineering coordinated the visit.

Dept. of Civil Engineering in association with SPACE, organized a Technical Talk on “Application of Drones in Civil Engineering” which was facilitated by Mr. Midhun Jyothis P C, Founder & CEO, Flotanomers R & D Pvt Ltd. During his talk, he briefed about FLOTANOMERS and the various job opportunities available for Civil engineering graduates in the field of Land Surveying, GIS application, Agriculture Survey, Aerial Survey etc. He stressed on the application of Drone survey for health monitoring, Boundary mapping of an area, Land use mapping of an urban area, Suitable road way mapping using Aerial photographs and so on. He motivated students to explore the field of Aerial Survey using Drones.
