68th Anniversary of the Republic Day Celebrated in Sahyadri

The 68th anniversary of the Republic Day was celebrated in the Campus with the hoisting of the national flag by Mr. Shrinivas Bhat, Senior Manager, Human Resources, Diya Systems, Business Value Contributor, Glow Touch Technologies, Mangaluru. He has 17+ years’ of rich experience in delivering optimal results and business value in high-growth environment in the areas of Recruitment, Human Resources Management, Compensation & Benefits, Leadership development and Performance management.

Mr. Shrinivas was humbly delighted to be part of the auspicious day. He started his speech by giving a brief history about the evolution of the Indian National Flag and how it brought about unity under the umbrella of one flag. He said that there were several flag which were designed in various periods’ post 1916 but the national flag which gained the most acceptances came into force in 1947 which has its own prominence and relevance. He also quoted that he is extremely delighted and proud of the fact that Karnataka is the only state in the country that has all the three units which supplies the material required for the National Flag.

The formal flag hoisting came to an end with the recitation of Bankim Chandra’s, “Vande Mataram.” It was followed by Staff Sports Day organized by the Department of Physical Education.

Chief Minister, Sri. Siddaramaiah arrived at the Sahyadri Campus mangaloreinisters Sri. Mallikarjun Kharge at Sahyadri College Mangalore Chief Minister, Sri. Siddaramaiah arrived at the Sahyadri Campus to attend the grand Wedding Ceremony of NRI businessman, Dr. B. R. Shetty’s son, Mr. Binay with Ms. Shivani in the august presence of various dignitaries.

Ministers Sri. Mallikarjun Kharge, Dr. G. Parameshwara, Sri. R. V. Deshpande, Sri. Shyamanuru Shivashankarappa, Sri. K J George, Sri. Ramanath Rai, Sri. Pramod Madhwaraj, Sri. Mohiuddin Bava, Sri. Abhayachandra Jain, Sri. Nalin Kumar Kateel among others made it to the wedding. The Sahyadri Campus was all set to host the big event and greet the attendees.

Aerophilia – 2017, A National Level AeroModelling Event & Air-Show

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has taken the initiative to widen the innovative prospects in the field of aeronautics. Aerophilia 2017, a national level AeroModelling competition organized by Team Challengers was scheduled to be held on the 27th and 28th of January, 2017. Aerophilia was initiated in 2016, which was the first attempt. Though, in the beginning the team had less number of participants, the response that they received was way beyond their expectations. With this driving force, Aerophilia - 2017 was organized on a massive scale.

The inaugural ceremony was adorned with the presence of Chief Guest - Mr. J T Radhakrishna, Director, Mangalore International Airport along with eminent delegates from various disciplines - Prof. B.R Kulkarni (Flight lieutenant Professor who is currently working in Goa Engineering college), Mr. Rajanikanth Shashtri (A former Intel Manager graduated from IIT Bombay, working at Software solution provider for FAB Labs in USA), Prof. B.N Karkera (A scientist from BARC who is a director at KGRCS, Sahyadri), Mr. M R Vasudeva (A former director in Mangalore International Airport), Ms. Padmavathi (Scientist/Engineer at Aeronautical Development Agency, Bengaluru), Dr. M S Bhatt (Former distinguished scientist VSSE, ISRO and Adjunct faculty, NITK, Suratkal).

The inaugural ceremony was carried out by launching the aircraft giving throttle. During the inaugural address, Mr. J T Radhakrishna emphasized on the complexities in aeronautical field. This was followed by AeroModelling and Drone race which was a major part of the event. Mr. Naveil Rodrigues and Mr. Ragavendra kept the crowd engaged with their mesmerizing talks and stunts. Mr. P.C Pant, Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force addressed the gathering wherein he enlightened the young minds with the opportunities in Aviation industry for engineers and spoke about different ways by which they can pursue their dreams and aspirations in aviation. Air-Show, the major highlight of the event was performed by Mr. Abdullah Ghasem Salehnezhad Moarafi, A UAE resident and an employee at Dubai customs along with Mr. Essa Saeed Essa Binaynouh, an employee of Dubai Police.

The event also included Skype technical talk by Dr. Parimal Kopardekhar, Senior Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center. The talk was attended by delegates and students from High school to Engineering level. Mr. Parimal spoke on the topic related to “Unmanned Aerial Systems Traffic Management”. He stressed on the various principles and services provided by UTM - its research, technical capabilities, challenges in vehicle technology and also opportunities for students, faculty and industry for research and technological development. Team Challengers also conducted various other events like PC games, Rubik’s cube, Treasure Hunt which kept the junior participants engaged.

Dr. S Manjappa felicitated with - Unnathi Lifetime Achievement Award at ICASE-2017, Bangkok

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director Research & Consultancy was invited to give a technical talk on “Production Ethanol from Hemi-Cellulose Feed-Stocks by the Use of Microbes” at the International Conference on Advances in Science & Engineering (ICASE-2017) in Bangkok. During this event he was felicitated with “The Unnathi Lifetime Achievement Award” for his contribution in the field of Environment and Chemical Sciences. It is worth mentioning that this award was given first on priority among the other set of awards like Best Paper Presenter, Best Researcher, Young Scientist etc.

Workshop on “Introduction to Industrial Automation” organised by Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd

Workshop on “Introduction to Industrial Automation” was conducted by Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd. in Sahyadri Janatics Industrial Automation Laboratory. The workshop commenced with an introduction to Automation by Mr. Ravichandra Kunugali Rangappa, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering. With vast expertise & knowledge, he stressed on the necessity and importance of automation in field of agriculture, since agriculture is the back bone of India. Post which, Mr. Nishanth and Mr. Gautham (Technical trainers, Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd) continued the session providing an overview to Pneumatics, its Fundamentals, components of Pneumatic System and Pneumatic circuits.

Dr. J V Gorbal appointed as Dean Academics

Dr. J V Gorbal has taken over as the Dean Academics of the institute effective 12th January 2017. He has completed his BE from Basaveshwara Engineering College, Bagalkot & M.Tech from K. B. N College of Engineering, Gulbarga. He has been awarded his Doctoral Degree from J. N. T University, Ananthapur. He has published several papers in national and international journals. He has got more than 18 years of experience in teaching and 7 years of experience in research. Prior to this role, he was the HOD of MCA Department. His areas of interest are Image Processing & Pattern Recognition.

Ms. Prithvi Shetty, Associate Assurance, PricewaterhouseCoopers visits Sahyadri

Ms. Prithvi Shetty, Associate Assurance, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, San Jose, California accompanied by Mr. Sachin Shetty visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Ms. Prithvi Shetty is currently handling the financial statement audits of Venture Capital and Life Sciences firms, with focus on complex transactions in investments and capital accounts at the PricewaterhouseCoopers.

These achievements in VTU board exams have raised the banners high of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

Indian Army visits Sahyadri for Campus Recruitment Drive

Indian Army Recruitment Team visited Sahyadri for the preliminary round of interview of its 27th Indian Army University Entry Scheme (UES 27). They are conducting this drive for the first time in Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Nine of our students and two students from NITK, Surathkal participated in the drive.

Anglo Eastern Maritime Training Center conducted the online test Sahyadri campus for the engineering students passed out in the year 2016 for the post of Electro Technical Officers (ETO) at the Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy.

Eleven MBA students recruited by KPMG-GDC

Sahyadri has been contributing immensely to the workforce of KPMG-GDC year on year basis. This year as well, they have recruited eleven students from the Department of Business Administration in the campus recruitment drive conducted in our campus and also St. Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology, Mangaluru.

Mr. Chethan Anil Pinto, 2nd Year Marketing student, Department of Business Administration, has been recruited by Ankur Lamps and Lighting Pvt. Ltd as Sales and Marketing Manager in the pooled campus recruitment drive conducted for the batch of 2017.

Faculty presents paper in WCEST-2017, Phuket, Thailand and wins Best Paper Award

Prof. Shetty Mamatha Gopal, Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Ms. Lathika J Shetty, an alumna of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, currently working as an Assistant Professor, Computer Science & Engineering, MITE attended and presented a paper entitled "Efficient business big data set analytics for making better decisions by using the combined applications of hadoop map reduce and time series analysis technique" in the World Congress on Engineering, Science & Technology (WCEST-2017) organized by World Academy of Science & Technology at Phuket, Thailand. This paper has won the best paper award.
