70th Anniversary of the Republic Day Celebrated at Sahyadri  The 70th Anniversary of the Republic Day was celebrated in the campus with hoisting the national flag by the Chief Guest - Mr. Sai Krishna Rao, General Manager-Education & Training, Schneider Electric.

70th Anniversary of the Republic Day Celebrated at Sahyadri  70th Anniversary of the Republic Day Celebrated at Sahyadri Mr. Sai Krishna Rao has over 30 years of experience in roles such as Vice-President, Business Head, Senior Consultant, General Manager-Operations and so on in various corporate organizations. He is certified to lead programmes by Landmark Worldwide, Harvard Business Publishing, Wipro Technologies Ltd, Franklin Covey and many others. He has been rigorously trained for 7 years at Landmark Worldwide in Ontology-Transformation of Life for Human Beings.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Sai Krishna appreciated the Quality of Education imparted at Sahyadri and also the Engagement level of Teachers with Students. He had words of praise for the in-house companies and start-ups and highlighted the X-Factors of these companies which he was delighted about.

Acknowledging the efforts of people and their long struggle to form the constitution, Mr. Sai Krishna posed two questions to the audience to ponder on this auspicious occasion. First – What you want your life to be about – Is it what you want or what the World wants? Second – What do you want your country to be represented for – Imitate other countries and strive to catch up to their level or capitalize its rich cultural heritage and value system and be a Rare India? He re-iterated the potential of the country and urged the students (as they are the future of the nation) to collaborate in solving the problems of the nation. He concluded his words saying that there is a great future for Sahyadri with its unique features.

Post his speech; students recited Bankim Chandra’s, “Vande Mataram”, the National Song. Later, the winners of Nationwide Women’s Law Awareness Quiz competition were awarded. A weeklong sport event was held for the faculty and the prizes were distributed on this forum. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Mr. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, Dr. Rajesha, Dean-Academics, HODs of various departments and the Company Heads were also part of the occasion.

Sahyadri files patent in path breaking innovation achieving <3 cm resolution navigation system With Industry 4.0 emerging, Auto Navigation Vehicle (AGV) is currently an area of immense interest. Positioning determination is a key challenge in AGV systems. Many technologies exist in determination of position like Wifi, Bluetooth, Ultrawide Band, Ultrasound and RFID. These technologies have merits and limitations like accuracy, range, tracking and so on.

Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management filed this patent that allows precision positioning determination with resolution less than 3 cm. This is an outcome of Industry and Academic collaboration. Team from Sahyadri and RDL jointly created this innovation.

Precision position systems finds application across domains, mainly Auto Guided Vehicle for manufacturing, retail, Healthcare, Hospitality, Utility and equipments that operate in hazardous environment.

Going forward, the team plans to extend this advantage of accurate position estimation to customers by integrating this technique onto products and solutions.

Sahyadri Signs MOU with NASSCOM India Sahyadri Signs MOU with NASSCOM India  With the prime objective of bridging the academic industrial gaps, Sahyadri Institutions has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NASSCOM India to launch various certification programmes in the engineering and Management domain.

NASSCOM, a not-for-profit industry association, is the apex body for the 154 billion dollar IT BPM industry in India, an industry that has made a phenomenal contribution to India's GDP, exports, employment, infrastructure and global visibility.

Certification programmes in the areas of IOT, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Business Analytics and other related courses will be launched at the campus which will be certified by NASSCOM, Government of India and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Ms. Moneesha Shrivastav, Regional Lead (Karnataka) from NASSCOM and Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman-Bhandary Foundation, signed and exchanged the agreement along with the other dignitaries of the institution.

Problem statement-to-Product: Smart Digital Display Board developed by final year Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) students

RDL As a part of the green initiative internship programme, the students of final year ECE have successfully designed the Smart digital display board at Research Design Lab (RDL) Technologies Pvt. Ltd. With a lot of latest innovative developments and in-house industry-academia activities, approximately 60 banners were consumed in a month which indirectly created 180 Kg of plastic wastage. Keeping this problem statement as motivation, students of final year electronics & communication department collectively proposed a concept keeping the knowledge and expertise gained in their internship programme which has fruitfully resulted into a product. The process of idea to a product has been facilitated by RDL technologies Pvt. Ltd who provided them with complete training, infrastructure and support for prototyping and development. The student team comprising of Priya Suryavanshi, Prithwi C Bhandary, Ashika Bhandary, Arpita Shetty, Sarika, Priya k, Punyashree, Prathishta T P, Simrin, Shruthi, Sharanya Acharya, Shilpa and Ronston have submitted this product to the Principal - Prof. (Dr.) R Srinivasa Rao Kunte. RDL team members Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Mr. Santosh Kumar, Dr. Anush Bekal and Ms. Nisha were present during the occasion.

Chairman participates in Tata Mumbai Marathon 2019

Smartlink Network Systems Ltd Smartlink Network Systems Ltd Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary along with his spouse Ms. Prasanna Bhandary participated in the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2019. They had the opportunity to meet the achievers who were the ambassadors of the Marathon - Mary Kom, the only woman to become World Amateur Boxing champion for a record six times, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the seven world championships; Ravija Singal, the youngest Asian woman to win the Iron Man title and Poorna Malavath aged 13 years, the youngest Indian and the youngest girl in the world to have reached the summit of Everest.

Tata Mumbai Marathon is an IAAF Gold label race and amongst the top 10 marathons in the world and has truly put India on the global map of distance running. The event is not only the biggest participative sport in the country, but also the single largest fund-raising platform for Civil Society Organisations. Since its inception, the event has raised in excess of INR 266 crores benefitting over 700 NGOs, supporting myriad causes and helping millions in our society, live a #BetterTommorow.

Sahyadri hosted "Ortho Premier League 2019"

Ortho Premier League 2019 Ortho Premier League 2019 Canara Orthopaedic Society (R), Mangalore organized Ortho Premier League 2019 at Sahyadri Cricket Ground for major hospitals across the city. The event had the participation of six major teams namely Kasturba Medical College Mangalore, AJ Hospital Mangalore, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy Mangalore, Yenepoya Medical College Mangalore, Tejasvini Hospital Mangalore and Father Muller Hospital Mangalore.

The Floodlight Cricket Tournament was inaugurated by Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, NITTE University & Chairman, Tejasvini Hospital. AJ Hospital Mangalore won the tournament for the third time in a row and Yenepoya Medical College bagged the Runner up Trophy.

Dr. D L Vijay Kumar, President-Congress Committee, Chickmagalur visits Sahyadri Quite often in the past Sahyadri had the privilege of hosting several A-list people at the campus. Dr. D L Vijay Kumar, President-Congress Committee, Chickmagalur was another esteemed guest who graced Sahyadri. He was accompanied by Mr. Shivaswamy, General Secretary-Congress Party. Apart from being a politician, Dr. Vijay Kumar is a renowned doctor and runs a 150-bed hospital.

Our Chairman – Mr. Manjunath Bhandary had the privilege of accompanying both Dr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. Shivaswamy around the campus. He talked to the guests about the great achievements at the campus. The guests visited various innovation centres and startups.

The guests on the other hand were fascinated with the student-centric initiatives undertaken by the college and had nothing but deep admiration for the unique education system established at Sahyadri.

Dr. D L Vijay Kumar is none other than the brother of Dr. Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director-Sahyadri Educational Institutions. Both the brothers are the backbone of this institution and have played a key role in its growth.

Dr. Yogiraj B Patel Board of Management-University of Horticulture Science in Bagalkot visits Sahyadri Dr. Patil is a member of Board of Management, University of Horticulture Science, Bagalkot and Syndicate Member, Kuvempu University, Shimoga.

Dr. Patil expressed his desire to visit and view the innovative labs, in-house start-ups and student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri. On having visited these, he was appreciative of the unique education set-up. He said that he has never seen an institution of such a magnitude. Last but not least, Dr. Patil was happy he took time to visit and lauded the Chairman on his excellent commitment towards building such a great institute.

The feedback given by Dr. Patil was extremely gratifying, and was accepted very well. Needless to say, like many esteemed guests in the past, Dr. Patil has left an impression that Sahyadri will remember in the years to come.

Dr. Harish Joshi, Retired Professor & Head of Department of Zoology visited Sahyadri Dr. Joshi is an expert in the field of Vermi Technology and has introduced the Vermi Technology to the campus.

Vermi Technolgy, Dr. Joshi said, can be used in managing organic waste of the campus. In this technology, the organic waste can be converted into Vermi Compost which is called as a complete Compost. In addition to this, Wormi-wash can be produced through this technology which can be used as a foliage sprayer to eradicate pest.

Dr. Joshi went around the campus accompanied by our Chairman. He had the wonderful opportunity to visit the various innovation centres and startups. He expressed that it was a nice experience and said that the campus is very neat and nice. He opined that the campus is environment-friendly too and is suitable not only for engineering and management courses but also for environment-related studies. Dr. Joshi interacted with the management and staff. He was awestruck with what he saw and experienced. He stated that the hard work that is put into this campus is commendable and praiseworthy. He also had a good word or two about the faculty as well as staff and said they are co-operative and friendly. As for the chairman, Dr. Joshi said he has no words to express and said he is very approachable. He further said the chairman is a great personality, at the same time very simple, pleasing, full of humility and down-to-earth. Dr. Joshi has left an imprint on this place and on our minds which is going to have a strong and lasting effect.

MBA Students visit Mangalore City Corporation and Mangalore Smart City Project Office Students of MBA visited Mangalore City Corporation to get an exposure to the administration and governance system of Mangalore city. A total of 9 MBA students under the mentorship of Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor visited various departments at MCC namely the revenue department, engineering department, water supply department, drainage maintenance section, licensing authority and Smart City planning office. The students interacted with Ms Nagajyothi V Naik, District Officer KVIB and Mr. Nagaraj M KAS, Joint Managing Director, Smart City Project. Twenty MBAs get placed at HDFC Bank In the recently held Pool Campus Drive for the position of Personal Banker-Sales, a total of 20 MBA students of Sahyadri have been selected out of the final 34 recruits from the Pool Campus Drive.

HDFC Bank was incorporated in August 1994. As of December 31, 2018, the bank had a nationwide distribution network of 4,963 branches and 13,160 ATM's in 2,727 cities / towns.

MBAs on Industry Visit to Delhi Metro Museum A total of 26 students along with their Mentors – Prof. Ramesh KG, Prof. Girish M, Prof. Manjunath Kamath and Prof. Samarth Shenoy had been to Delhi Metro Museum as a part of industry visit which is situated at Patel Chowk Metro Station Delhi. Mr. Mukesh Khanna, the museum curator addressed students about the history of metros' in Delhi. Students had an opportunity to see functional miniature model of the machinery which is used to make the metro tunnels and current running metro rail. The Delhi Metro Museum was established in the year 2008. The metro museum showcases the genesis, history and journey of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Museum curator appreciated Sahyadri for such initiative and it was an immense learning experience for the students.

Wing Commander Praveen Chandra Pant visited Sahyadri Sahyadri is graced by the visit of Wing Commander Praveen Chandra Pant. He is Commanding Officer of the 6 Karnataka Air Squardon, NCC. He discussed about starting a NCC unit at our campus. He met and interacted with the chairman and appreciated the institution’s effort in putting ideas and skill generation into implementation towards building a great nation.

He said that the institution has very intricately modeled the dreamer spirits of the youth into implementable, concrete ideas that can evolve into factual products and services for the society. Furthermore, he expressed his view that the startup cum laboratory-workshop cum entrepreneur collaboration is a perfect setup to get ideas into motion.

Researcher from HAN University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands visits Sahyadri

Researcher from HAN University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands visits Sahyadri Rakshith Kusumakar, Researcher, HAN University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands, visited the campus. During his visit he interacted with the faculty and students of Mechanical Engineering. He gave an overview of various automotive projects that are being carried out at HAN University. He also stressed on the importance of IOT and its application in the intelligent transport systems. Furthermore, he delved into the next generation automobiles that could solve many of the existing challenges. He also discussed about the possible internship opportunities for the students of Sahyadri at HAN University, Netherlands. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is also planning to take up collaborative research projects along with Han University under various Indo-Dutch joint research programmes.

Fiabilite Network Solution Pvt Ltd team visits Sahyadri Lt. Col. K N Srikar Director, Mr. Avinash MD and Mr. Sudheendra Gururaj, Director & CTO of Fiabilite Network solution Pvt Ltd., visited the campus. The team interacted with Aptra Technologies Pvt Ltd. During the interaction the Aptra team explained to them in detail about the ERP and mobile app products and discussed about the future road map.

Furthermore, the team interacted with the Chairman and expressed desire to visit and view the innovative labs, in-house start-ups and student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri. On having visited these, they were appreciative of the unique education set-up established at Sahyadri.

In commemoration of the great sacrifice done by our ancestors, freedom fighters and soldiers for our nation’s freedom, the staff and students paid their respects by observing a 2-minutes silence. Prof. S. Balakrishna, Vice Principal, led the staff in the commemoration.

30th January is the date observed as Martyr's Day at the national level. This date goes down in history as it marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. On this day, the President, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister and three service chiefs gather at the Raj Ghat Memorial and lay wreaths decorated with multi-colour flowers. The armed forces personnel blow bugles sounding the Last Post. The inter-services contingent reverses arms as a mark of respect. A two-minute silence in memory of Indian martyrs is observed throughout the country at 11 am. Tributes are sung and all-religion prayers are held.

MBA student wins ‘First Runner-Up’ Title at Kannada Kogile

MBA student wins ‘First Runner-Up’ Title at Kannada Kogile Ms. Akhila Pajimannu, first year MBA student has won First Runner-Up Title at Kannada Kogile, a Musical Reality Show organized by Colors Super Channel produced by Sai Nirmala Productions. The audition was held in Mangaluru and out of 30,000 contestants; Akhila was selected among top 42 contestants for the Mega Audition. Further, she entered the Top 23 and had everyone’s feet tapping with the peppy numbers she performed during the show. She was one of the participants who received judge’s comment as - "One More Time" by Ms. Usha Uthup. It was a golden moment for her as no other contestant was selected for the next round with this kind of an impact. The great Music Director of Kannada film industry - Mr. Sadhu Kokila, Kannada Rapper - Mr. Chandan Shetty and the melodious singer Ms. Archana Udupa were the judges for the rest of the show. During the series, the renowned Music Director - Mr. Gurukiran also joined the show.

Every round was different and she had to sing different genres of music. Out of 22 rounds in total, Akhila has received 13 Golden Buzzers which was the highest in the show. She now has around 10 Fan Pages created in Instagram for her.

In the Grand Finale she was one among the 5 contestants. Finally, after a fruitful 6 months of journey, Akhila won the title 'First Runner-up of Kannada Kogile'. Akhila has expressed her gratitude to Sahyadri for extending support and helping her sail through her journey in “Kannada Kogile”.

Ltd. situated in Hyderabad. This company is into production of LED segments and LED since 25 years. It has 10,000 customers and enjoys highest customer loyalty. The company has highest market share in India and the 1st company in the country to produce LED. It has received Corporate Award for Best Performance in Electronic Components in MSME category. It has signed MOU with Telangana Government to produce 3 billion LEDs per annum with an investment of 200 crores.

'Sahyadri Wanderers', a Team of MBA at Rajasthan

Sahyadri Wanderers 'Sahyadri Wanderers' - Dr. Sharan Shetty, Dept. of Business Administration along with his mentees were at one of the Top Indian B-Schools - Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Udaipur. The team had an opportunity to interact with the CEO, Directors, HR personnel and the students of the institution. They also covered industries like Hindusthan Zink and Rock Star. The team also experienced Camel Safari and Jeep Safari at Jaisalmer.

Sahyadri Wanderers They also visited TAPMI School of Business-Manipal University at Jaipur. This visit has brought into light that there is great synergy between the Sahyadri Mentor System and the TAPMI School of Business Buddy System. There was a healthy interaction between both the B-Schools. The team had an opportunity to interact with President/Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the university and other people in the top management. While interacting, the management of Manipal University appreciated the Mentor-Mentee system at Sahyadri.

Sahyadri Wanderers The team also went to the Legislative Assembly Bhavan and interacted with ministers and top officials. They had a healthy discussion on Politics and Management which brought out the essence of “Effective politics through best management practices”. The officials were impressed with the Sahyadri Mentor-Mentee System and have expressed their interest to visit Sahyadri and view the institution-lead start-ups.

Train the Trainer Programme was conducted for Faculties

Train the Trainer Programme was conducted for Faculties Train the trainer for the faculties of Computer Science and Information Science on “Teaching programming” for 1st Year/non IT students was conducted by Mr. Ramaprasad from 10 Seconds. The session mainly focused on how to teach any programming language to students so that they come out of the phobia of the same. He spoke on dividing the program into different levels where in level zero you make them understand the logic and then higher levels deal with writing the code. He also highlighted the importance of understanding the syntax and semantics of the program for a student without which writing code is not possible.

IS Student selected as the Google Developer Students Club Lead for the YR 2019-2020

Akshay Ram Bhat from Third Year of Information Science and Engineering has been selected as the Developer Student Club lead for the year 2019-2020. He is also the Technical Lead and an active member of Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC). Developer Students' Club is a Google Developers programme for university students, designed to help them build their mobile and web development skills and knowledge. It is intended to be a space for students to learn and collaborate as they solve mobile and web development problems.

Sahyadrian wins consolation prize in the National Level Stamp Design Competition.

Mr. M. Vaibhav Shenoy, final year student of Electronic & Communication Engineering has won a consolation prize in the National Level Stamp Design Competition organized by India Post on the theme “Potter’s Wheel”. He has received a scholarship of Rs. 5,000/-, a Certificate as consolation prize and a Letter of Appreciation from the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices.

Delegates from Ernst & Young LLP visit Sahyadri Mr. Furqan Warsi, Director-FAAS, Learning Solutions and Mr. Asif Chowgule, Assistant Manager-Financial Accounting Advisory Services of Ernst and Young LLP, visited our campus. Mr. Furqan addressed Director-MBA, HOD’s and Deans regarding the various certification programmes offered by EY for MBA and Engineering. He also offered to customize the programme for Sahyadri.

Later Mr. Furqan and Mr. Asif also had a discussion with MBA faculty team regarding making Sahyadri as Nodal Centre for EY courses, placements and offered assistance to conduct Workshops/Seminars, FDP and MDP Programmes.

The EY team also visited the in-house companies & startups and expressed their happiness to experience the learning centre created for students.

Campus Recruitment Drive Larsen & Toubro Infotech (LTI) visited Sahyadri to conduct a 2-day Pool Campus Drive for the Computer Science, Information Science, and Electronics & Communication Engineering students of 2019 outgoing Batch and 2018 passed out batch.

Dr. Rahul P., Campus Recruitment PSC from LTI, was at the campus to facilitate the recruitment process. A total of 163 students from 2019 batch participated in the recruitment drive, out of which, 13 were selected. The results of 2018 passed out batch are awaited.

10-Day Technical Training for students & faculty members

10-Day Technical Training for students & Faculty A 10 day Technical Training was held for the sixth semester students from Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and Information Science branches. A total of 50 faculty members also took part in this training.

An Engineer who is a problem solver in various ways needs to be a constant learner, and should also possess a strong sense of reasoning and a structured approach to problem solving.

Having hands-on experience in at least one of the programming languages and a basic understanding of the rest of the concepts is a common requirement for the recruiter as far as the industry is concerned. The areas where technical aptitude assessments can be applicable are vast and the training was customized keeping in mind the industry and the requirements.

As an engineering faculty it is very much essential to put themselves in the shoes of the recruiter and guide the students in choosing the best career, so as to understand the technical skills. In view of the above, a 10 days’ Technical Aptitude was arranged by the Department of Placements.

JEE-MAIN 2019 online exams at Sahyadri

JEE-MAIN 2019 online exams were held in College computer labs from 8th Feb 2019 to 12 the Feb 2019 in 2 batches with 200 students in each batch.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAIN is conducted by the NTA from 2019 onwards.JEE Main is applicable for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

Engineering student participates in DST & Texas Instruments India Innovation Challenge Design Contest

Ms. Basavarajeshwari Ambi from the Dept of Information Science & Engineering participated in DST & Texas Instruments India Innovation Challenge Design Contest 2018, Anchored by IIM, Bangalore. An initiative by Texas Instruments in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST) and anchored by NSRCEL, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB), supported by MyGov and NIC, IICDC has come to be an established platform in creating an immersive ecosystem that serves as a launch pad in recognizing India’s engineering student talent in innovation and sharpening their business acumen transforming their dreams into startups thus contributing to India’s success towards becoming an Innovation Hub. The latest edition, IICDC 2018 has set a new benchmark in itself. It has seen exponential growth in the participation by 26511 students from 1760 colleges submitting 10146 ideas who dream of paving future of India with engineering solutions and path-breaking innovative ideas.
