Chairman & Sahyadri Team Attend EDGE Workshop

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, accompanied by Ms. Deeksha Bhandari, Mr. Ramesh K. G, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration and Prof. Rashmi Bhandary, Head –Department of Placement attended the EDGE Workshop by KNOLSKAPE at Bangalore which introduced them to experiential learning.

KNOLSKAPE, one of the top 20 Gamification companies in the world has brought its popular Gamification Workshop for business professionals to Bangalore for the third time. EDGE by KNOLSKAPE is a full-day comprehensive workshop designed for Senior Business Leaders, HR Leaders and L&D Professionals, who are preparing for or are currently engaged in strategic planning. This workshop intends to help participants build engaging and practical learning development plans for their organization’s needs. Understanding adaptive leadership was the prime focus of the workshop. The program was experiential and practical, not just conceptual. The curriculum emphasized proven learning solutions to increase core competencies from on-boarding to leadership and talent management.

“FEEL TEACHER COMMUNICATION” Held in the Campus

The two-day training programme “FEEL TEACHER COMMUNICATION” was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi. He highlighted that teaching is an enjoyable profession and encouraged faculty members to take part in the session well and enjoy the learning process.

The resource person of the training programme, Prof. Sunney Tharappan, Director, CLHRD, stated that quality of a programme depends on the person who goes through the training. Teachers fall under the category of helpers. He emphasized the need for developing competencies with students by being helpers. He also appreciated the Sahyadri environment. Prof. Sunney Tharappan is a thinker, writer, master facilitator and trainer, but most of all, a teacher, researching on the development of human resource. He has trained over 86000 teachers across India and Sri Lanka.

The FEEL Teacher Communication is the first unit of a nine day `FEEL Teacher’ programme and the stress is on interpersonal communication. The main objectives of this training programme are to help participants understand what is human resource and its development, the need for attitudinal changes in developing resourcefulness of students, to identify skills that are needed to become an effective teacher and to influence teachers to make necessary changes in the strategies, methods and techniques of classroom functioning.

The training programme will develop the communication perspective that will help them inspire their students to become Role Models and also develop an institution perspective and hone their skills on a continuous basis.

Thirty six faculty members participated in this programme. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, Head, Department of Training.

Faculty Development Programme 'Winning Ways' Organised in the Campus

The two-day faculty training programme, `Winning Ways’ was inaugurated by the Chairman,
Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. In his inaugural speech, he highlighted the need for training to bridge the gap between student and industry. A good teacher today is not just a transferor of information or knowledge, but a link for the student with the industry. He called upon the teachers to not only transfer knowledge, but build them for industry. In this context, he said two things are important; one, the belongingness towards the institute and second the teacher’s attitude towards the student should be positive.

Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi emphasized the need to integrate with students, re-engineer our own process and to redefine winning for the growth of the institution.

The resource person of the day, Mr. Ramkumarr Seshu, Founder, Born to Win Learning Services, Bangalore, spoke about the four phases of life. First, the data phase, where we use data to build a model, second, the information phase, where data gets packaged as information, third phase, is the knowledge phase, which is the present phase of organized information e.g. Google, Yahoo and the fourth phase is the wisdom phase e.g, WhatsApp and Facebook. In the wisdom world, we are moving from a win-lose situation to a win–win situation.

He spoke about the three kinds of learning; first, I know, and I am doing it, second, I know, but I am not doing it and third, I don’t know, and I need to start doing it. When you apply knowledge, the result is either positive or negative and that is wisdom. He called upon the participant’s to wear three caps; as a participant, as a wisdom worker and an inspirer’s cap.

Principal, Vice Principal, heads of the departments and a total of thirty faculty members participated in this programme. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, Head, Department of Training. The training programme will develop the leadership perspective that will help them inspire their students become role models and also develop an institution perspective and hone their skills on a continuous basis. This training intervention addressed the issues of managing self, inspiring people, excellence at work and wining in a dynamic environment.

Mr. B. M. Patil & Ms. Deeksha Bhandari interacts with the new entrants

Mr. B. M. Patil, founder & president of Shri. B. M. Patil Foundation had interacted with the new entrants to the engineering at the campus. He shared his experience of studying in United States of America. He said engineering is not just about learning theory in the classrooms but instead it has also to do with practical applications.

In his motivational speech, he gave a call to the students to come up with innovative ideas and bring them into reality. He also emphasized on some of the critical applications of engineering.

Ms. Deeksha Bhandari, student, the London School of Economics & Political Science, also interacted with the new entrants and shared her personal experience on how to make a difference and be different from the rest of the world. She began with the concept of “ME” in connection to which she delivered the talk. She mentioned the importance of resume and said that leadership skills, personal skills and achievements are most important factors that one’s resume should carry in it. She stressed on taking up internships for the students which further creates employment opportunities. She emphasized the importance of team spirit and building relationships for better connectivity. Lastly she mentioned that to achieve something in life, staying committed to whatever you do is the key factor.

Chairman Interacts with Students of the Bridge Course

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, interacted with the students of the Bridge Course. He narrated the evolution of the Bridge Course by Sahyadri to the current scenario. He highlighted that the Bridge Course is an opportunity given to them to become leaders and role models to other students.

In his session he explained how aptitude and value added courses will help in the engineering field. He encouraged students to take up small projects and also motivated them to participate wholeheartedly in all activities this year and to engage the next Bridge Course batch in the coming year. He requested the students to document the 18 days bridge course experience and share it with others who did not get the opportunity to attend the Bridge Course. He urged the students to involve themselves in internships in industries and gain experiential knowledge.

Improve Teaching Methodologies: Chairman Addresses Faculty Members

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, addressed the faculty members of the first year students and shared his thoughts on improving teaching methodologies. He gave a call to all the faculty members to motivate the students of the first year and help them to develop interest in their curricula. During his motivational address, he said each class handled by the faculty should be interactive; also personality development and soft skills should be inculcated into their teaching. He encouraged the faculty members to visit industries often which would help enlighten students to know and understand industry–corporate culture. He stressed on faculty grooming.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, concluded by saying that being dynamic is the need of the hour. He said it is more important to be recognized as a teacher rather than a faculty.

BESCOM CAT 2015 test at Sahyadri

BESCOM CAT 2015 was successfully held in the Campus. BESCOM – Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited is responsible for power distribution in eight districts of Karnataka.

Out of the 960 candidates who registered for the post of the Assistant in the morning session, 511 candidates took the test. The afternoon session which comprised of 960 registrations for the post of Junior Assistant, 531 candidates took the test.

Mr. D. Nagaraj, Executive Engineer (Elec.), O&M East Circle, BESCOM-Bangalore and Mr. Santhosh Kumar D. K., Assistant Professor, Canara Engineering College were the observers for the test. Mr. Rathina Kumar, Assistant Executive Engineer (Elec.), BESCOM-Kolar was the special observer.

The test was coordinated by Mr. Chethan G. C., Operation Executive, IIM/META-i Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The ambience of the Sahyadri Campus was well appreciated by all of them. They also commended all the arrangements made for the conduct of the test.
