Sahyadri in Top 100 Ranking in The Week Survey

In a survey conducted by The Week magazine among private engineering colleges in India, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been ranked 83rd in the top 100 private engineering colleges.

In another survey by Careers 360 education magazine among Best Engineering Colleges, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been ranked AA+ in the year 2015. The highest ranking is AAAAA and lowest ranking is A.

Fifth Graduation Day Celebrated in the Campus

The fifth Graduation Day for the passed out 2013-14 batch of students of M.Tech., MCA and B.E. and the 2014-15 batch of B.E. students of engineering was held in the Campus. 675 students took an oath and received their graduation certificates from the Chief Guest. Around 250 parents and relatives of the students were present to witness their children graduate.

Mrs. Rekha Mathews, Head-India Campus Relationships, UST Global was the Chief Guest. She holds a B. Tech. Degree in Civil Engineering from College of Engineering, Trivandrum, PG Diploma in computerized management and PG Diploma in Marketing Management. She has 23 years of experience in the areas of Media, MIS, Business Operations Management, International Business, Imports & Exports Management, Merchandising, HR Management, Recruitment and Training. She works with UST Global for the last 6 years, heading India Campus Relationships for the last 5 years and is responsible for fresher recruitment and campus activities in India.

Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, in his presidential remarks said that he was very happy to see so many students graduate on this memorable occasion and he congratulated the graduates on their achievements and the parents for placing their trust in Sahyadri when they chose this college four years ago for their children to study a professional course. He told the gathering that so far they were dependents but now they have become independent adults of society and able to make their own decisions; they can choose what is right and what is wrong. He said that mistakes, failure and rejection are part of life and that the word FAIL should not be taken literally but it is to be read as `First Attempt In Learning’ and that there are plenty of opportunities out there. Dr. Bhandary called upon every graduate to be the Brand Ambassadors of the institution wherever they may be placed in life and to always uphold the name of the institution.

Mrs. Rekha Mathews in her address to the gathering called the graduates `Young Super Heroes’ and said she was very proud to witness this occasion. She said that it was sixteen years of hard work that has culminated in this day. They were fortunate and blessed that they could celebrate their success. Mrs. Mathews called upon the graduates to be thankful for their success to their parents, teachers, well-wishers and the many other people who have been behind this success. She asked the graduates to learn from their mistakes and drawbacks and to perfect the subject knowledge and to spend some time to improve their skills. She said that the 3 I’s for success were Insights; to know one’s purpose and have a goal, Inspiration; work with passion and be passionate entrepreneurs and have integrity in whatever one does and one is definite to succeed. She said that the initial years after graduating are for learning and the key to success is continuous learning. She cautioned that when one is successful one has to repeat success, only then will one remain successful. In today’s world, to remain successful, one has to run faster than yesterday, otherwise, one will be overtaken by a more competent person. She wished the graduates all the best for the future and told them to grow wings of passion like a butterfly and fly with their passion.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, in his vote of thanks congratulated the graduates and said that the institute was proud of their achievements. In his advice to the young achievers he said that with hands in the pocket it is not possible to climb a ladder, one needs to hold on to it to be able to climb; so it is with the ladder of success, it takes hard work and grit and determination to be successful.

Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director-Research gave the welcome address. Invited dignitaries, the trustees, Mrs. Prasanna Bhandary, Secretary, Bhandary Foundation, the parents, the press and media, the faculty, the staff and the students were present on the occasion.

Dr. Pradeep K. Pujari of BARC Delivers Special Lecture at Sahyadri

Dr. Pradeep K Pujari, Head, Radiochemistry Division, BARC, Mumbai, gave a special lecture on avenues of funding opportunities/Research Projects through the ‘Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences’ (BRNS) to the researchers and faculty members of Sahyadri. The special lecture was initiated by Research Director, Prof. C. Ranganathaiah giving a prelude of the function. It was attended by the Principal, Dr. U M Bhushi, Dean Academic, Prof. Umashankar, Director-CENT, Prof. Richard Pinto, research coordinators and other research faculties. BRNS is an advisory Body of the Department of Energy (DoE) to recommend financial assistance to universities, academic institutions, and national Laboratories.

Dr. P. K. Pujari explained the sub-categories of BRNS, funding mechanism, and route map of getting funds through BRNS. He also briefed about the schemes such as DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme which a fund is given to complete an M.Tech. degree from any reputed institute. Basic sciences play a major role in research and the BRNS gives importance for the team with interdisciplinary approach. He highlighted the thrust areas for funding and concluded that all engineering departments have a lot to contribute. He congratulated the chairman and management for creating the best infrastructure and appreciated the vision of the institute. He was certain that this institute will grow into a major engineering institute from this part of the nation. Dr. P. K. Pujari also deeply appreciated the beauty of the Campus and its ambience.

Dr. P.K. Pujari is a renowned scientist nationally and internationally. He joined the 28th batch of Training School of BARC, Mumbai after completion of M.Sc. (Chemistry) from IIT, Delhi. He received the Homi Bhabha Prize as topper of the chemistry discipline in 1985. Subsequently he joined the Radiochemistry Division and has been specializing in positron annihilation spectroscopy and its applications. He has developed a state of the art positron laboratory at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). He has received the T.D. Memorial Young Scientist Award (1997), Japan Society for the promotion of Sciences (JSPS) Fellowship (1998-2000), DAE-SRC Outstanding Research Investigator Award (2008) and Homi Bhabha Science and Technology Award (2008). He has been a visiting professor to Osaka University and has been elected as the president of international committee of Positron and Positronium chemistry. Currently, he is a Professor at the Homi Bhabha National Institute and heads the nuclear chemistry section of the Radiochemistry Division, BARC.


Mrs. Rajalaxmi B. Joshy of Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple Visits Sahyadri

Mrs. Rajalaxmi B. Joshy of Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple visited the Campus. She was felicitated by Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Chairman and she gave him her blessings. She invited all the staff members of Sahyadri to visit Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple.

Horanadu is located in the picturesque surroundings of Western Ghats of Karnataka. Horanadu is 100 kms south-west of Chikmagalur, located in the midst of thick forests and valleys.

Horanadu is a place of enchanting natural scenery; the ancient temple of Goddess Annapoorneshwari here has been restored and renamed as the Adi-Shaktyatmaka Shree Annapoorneshwari.

Executive Members of KSCST Visit Sahyadri

The executive members of KSCST (Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology) headed by Dr. S G Sreekanteswara Swamy, Executive Secretary, Shri. Kankadri, OSD Administration, Shri. Shivaprasad, Assistant Accounts Officer and Shri. K. N. Venkatesh, SPP Co-ordinator visited the College. KSCST encourages creativity of students sponsoring through seed money their projects ever since 1978-79. Till date, they have developed 200 technologies and thrust areas are on rural development, energy, water harvesting, solar energy and many more. This year, 450 projects worth 35 lakhs have been given to125 colleges. Till 2015 they have sponsored 7800 projects worth Rs 2.5 crores.

They met the Chairman, the Principal and the Director-Research & Consultancy and have identified Sahyadri as a Nodal centre for hosting the KSCST project exhibition this year.

Dr. Sreekanteshwara Swamy also gave a special presentation on avenues of funding in KSCST for students/faculty members of engineering colleges in the State. The special lecture was initiated by Principal, Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi giving prelude of the function.

Dr. Sreekanteshwara Swamy explained the funding mechanism and route map of getting funds through KSCST. He stressed about team work in research and importance of collaborative works. He said that research design, money and collaboration are more important in research and development. The basic sciences play a major role in research and the KSCST gives importance for the team with interdisciplinary approach with social and industry relevance. He also stressed the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Dr. Sreekanteshwara Swamy congratulated the chairman and management for creating the best infrastructure and appreciated the attitude of faculty and research culture at Sahyadri. He deeply appreciated the beauty of the Campus and its ambience.

Dr. S Manjappa concluded by thanking KSCST and all the members for visiting and wished for a long-term collaboration. Sahyadri will host a project exhibition and IPR Workshop by KSCST in the coming months.

Students Mentored for INTEL ISEF

Students of various schools in the region visited the Campus with the aim of being mentored towards 2016 INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). The students were guided on their projects by
Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Chairman and Prof. Dayanand Shetty, Director (STEP).

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), a program of Society for Science & the Public (SSP), is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. More than 1,700 high school students from over 70 countries, regions, and territories are awarded the opportunity to showcase their independent research and compete for more than $5 million in prizes.

Today, millions of students worldwide compete each year in local and school-sponsored science fairs; the winners of these events go on to participate in SSP-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend Intel ISEF. Intel ISEF unites these top young scientific minds, showcasing their talents on an international stage, where doctoral level scientists review and judge their work.
