Sahyadri Ranked 90th in All India Ranking of Top Private Engineering Colleges

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been ranked 90th in the All India Ranking of Top Private Engineering Colleges and 61st in the South Zone research survey by The Week Magazine and Hansa 2016 for its knowledge-oriented teaching which is at the core of the pedagogy in India’s best colleges as per the survey.

Sixth Graduation Day Celebrated in the Campus

The Sixth Graduation Day for the graduating students of M.Tech., MCA and B.E. of 2015-16 was held in the Campus. 550 students took an oath and received their graduation certificates from the Chief Guest, Mr. Brijesh Krishnan. Around 500 parents and relatives of the students were present to witness their children graduate on this special occasion.

Mr. Brijesh Krishnan is Associate Vice President and Head of Delivery for High Tech Consumer Electronics sector at Infosys. A Tier leader of Infosys, member of Unit Executive Council and winner of multiple Corporate Excellence awards, Brijesh has over 18 years of IT experience at various leadership roles. He possesses diverse IT experience in the geographies of USA, Japan, Singapore and India. Brijesh is also an industry speaker at NASSCOM, Karnataka & Kerala State IT Dept conferences, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and other industry events. Brijesh did his Engineering in Electronics & Communication and MBA in Finance from Symbiosis, Pune. He has specialized in “Manufacturing & Supply Chain” from IIM Bangalore and “Executing Growth Strategies” from Wharton Business School. He is also an amateur cyclist with the Mangalore Cycling Club.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation in his introductory remarks, recalled the first time these students visited the campus four years ago, along with their parents. The parents had a lot of questions about whether their children would get jobs and the companies that would come for campus placement. Today, Sahyadri is proud to answer all their questions and apprehensions with the visit of 150 companies and over 400 students being placed. He advised the students to work with commitment and dedication for a minimum of 2-3 years in their chosen companies and be brand ambassadors of Sahyadri. He reminiscenced that Infosys was the first company to recruit the first batch of students and thanked Infosys for being a strong support throughout. He advised the students to keep away from the stress of worldly materialistic wealth and to concentrate on their work which is in their hands. He asked them to keep their mind filled with positive attitude, love, happiness and warm memories of Sahyadri. He assured the students that the doors of Sahyadri are always open to them and wished them well in their future endeavors. The Dean Academics requested the Chief Guest to declare the Graduation Day open and was followed by the distribution of certificates to the graduating students and oath taking.

Mr. Brijesh Krishnan in his address to the graduating students recalled his own graduation day which comes with a lot of mixed feelings. You celebrate success on one side and apprehensions of a new life on the other side. He asked the students to cherish their teachers all through life as a teacher affects eternity and one can never say where a teacher’s influence stops. He took us through the 400 years of Indian economy from the independence era to the emergency era and the present economic liberalization era. He told the students to make use of the world of opportunities available in today’s flat world. He gave three simple advice to students, Firstly, to take care to create a profession, because a profession is different from a job which includes training and learn ability and makes you a subject expert. Secondly, to take care of your elders because it is their toil that makes you the person you are. And thirdly, not to forget the most important person, that is yourself, by taking care of yourself, physically, mentally and learning every day. He concluded by calling the graduating students as supermen and superwomen whose time it is now.

Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, in his vote of thanks congratulated the graduates and said that the institute was proud of their achievements. He advised the students to grow and continuously learn in life. He also called upon them to give their hundred percent in whatever they do. Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice Principal gave the welcome address and introduced the Chief Guest. He extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, the trustees, the parents, the press and media, the faculty, the staff and the students present on the occasion. Three of the graduating students shared their experiences of the time they spent in the Campus and expressed their gratitude to their alma mater. The formal function was followed by a photography session.

Dreamers visit Vigyan Ashram & Infant Jesus Joyland School

Mr. Gautham Nayak and Ms. Achala R Shetty, of Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. visited Vigyan Ashram in Pune. They had an interaction with Dr. Yogesh Kulkarni, Executive Director of Vigyan Ashram at Pabal. The team discussed about the various initiatives of Sahyadri College – Hands On Experience Lab, SPSS, SSTH and sought guidance regarding the same. Vigyan Ashram officials were excited to know that such an initiative is taken by the engineering college and also congratulated DTLABZ for driving the young minds in the right direction.

Dr. Yogesh Kulkarni briefed about the programme like IBT and DRBT conducted in schools at Pabal. The team also interacted with Ms. Prajna (IBT instructor) and Pawan Soni (Entrepreneurship instructor) regarding the approach of their program and its outcome.

Vigyan Ashram is a center of Indian Institute of Education (IIE) Pune. A scientist turned educationalist, Late Dr. S. S. Kalbag, started Vigyan Ashram in 1983 to find a solution to the problems in education. Vigyan Ashram’s educational program IBT (Introduction to Basic Technology) is adopted by more than 122 high schools across 4 states in India.

Mr. Johnson Tellis, Director of DTlabz, Mr Gautham Nayak and Mr. Nishanth Kottary, co-founders of DTlabz, visited Infant Jesus Joyland School, Bolar, Mangalore and interacted with the high school students. They spoke about how science can be used to solve day-to-day problems, how learning science can transform the way we look at things and why it is important for us to understand and analyse the magic of science. The students were awestruck by this inspiring interaction. It opened their minds into a whole new dimension of learning science. They discussed on developing various student project ideas into a prototype and how science can be experienced. It was an amazing and memorable day for the students and for DTlabz.

Shri Mangala Enterprise and other well-wishers Sponsor Team Formula Sahyadri

Formula Sahyadri, the SAE-SUPRA 2016 team of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has received Rs.25,000/- from Shri Mangala Enterprises as sponsorship amount. Mr. Suraj, Mr. Rajesh, Mr. Ganesh who are marketing partners of Shri Mangala Enterprises visited the team and conveyed their best wishes by recognizing the team’s effort and hard work in building Mangalore's first student version of a Formula One car. Shri Mangala Enterprise, based and operating in Mangalore, is the dealer for V-Guard, Havells, RR, GM switches. Trustee, Mr. Devadas Hegde, has made it possible through this company to sponsor the team as well as many other companies are coming forward as sponsors through him.

Team Formula Sahyadri has received an additional Rs. 25,000/- as sponsorship amount in addition to the previous Rs. 50,000/- from the faculty members and students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Vice Principal handed over the cheque to the team member Larry Medonca in the presence of Prof. Mahesh B Davanageri, HoD of the department and other faculty members. With this, the team Formula Sahyadri has received a total amount of Rs. 75,000/- from the department.

Team Formula Sahyadri received Rs.25,000/- as sponsorship amount from Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd.. Sachin Ganesh, CEO handed over the cheque to the team member Tharanath. Ms. Achala, Mr. Nishanth and Mr, Gautham, members of DTlabz were also present and wished the team great success.

The team will be participating in the national level event “SAE SUPRA 2016” to be held at Buddh International Circuit, Noida, U.P., in July 2016. The team Formula Sahyadri, with 25 team members, are designing, fabricating and developing a student version of a Formula 1 car (Prototype of F1 car). This event deals with the design, manufacture, management, communication, research and marketing. SAE SUPRA is highly sought-after across the engineering mobility industry.

Two-day PGCET Training Programme held in the campus

Mr. Manoj Rajan, Additional Secretary to Government (Market Reforms), Government of Karnataka and the Chairman of the Agricultural Market Reforms Committee was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function of the two-day PGCET training programme organized by the Department of Business Administration. Mr. Manoj Rajan’s recommendations to bring reforms in the agri-marketing sector are being implemented in the state of Karnataka. He has played a key role in bringing out the Karnataka Agricultural Marketing policy 2013, a first-of-its-kind in the country. As Managing Director and CEO of Rashtriya e Market services Pvt. Limited, Mr. Manoj successfully established “online markets” across 105 APMCs in Karnataka, and as a result became the only state where 105 regulated markets are under the common electronic platform allowing for greater transparency in the price discovery process. He established Rashtriya e Market Services Private Limited (ReMs), a unique public-private partnership model in the agricultural marketing sector. He has also been a Special Officer (Elections), in the Election Commission of India.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Rajan reiterated that life has given us 86,400 seconds in a day and our thought process should be inclined towards how effectively we spend our time. Life is a trade and if we budget our time accordingly, the sky is the limit. Emphasising on the importance of life and time Mr. Rajan urged every individual to change the life of others as well. He stimulated participants to do a SWOT Analysis of self since each one is unique which can guide us to set goals for the next 2 – 5 years. He appreciated participants who occupied the front rows and acknowledged that one who dares to sit in front has substance. He encouraged students to work on their career chart, value time and also prepare a calendar for self. He urged every individual to incline their thoughts towards what you want to give, rather than what you want to take. He appreciated participants for their interest in MBA as this course helps in applying the skills into practice. He mentioned that the participants should make the optimum utilization of the learning’s they receive in these two days which will make their life.

There were close to one hundred and fifty MBA aspirants from various UG colleges who attended the training. A session on Quantitative Analysis was facilitated by Mr. Vivekananda Kamath, Centre Head, Co-ordinator, Career Guidance, H.R. Manager at T.I.M.E. (Triumphant Institute of Management Education Pvt. Ltd.), Udupi. He is also a master trainer in Pradhan Mantri Koushal Vikas Yojana. Another session on Proficiency in English Language was facilitated by Ms. Shirley A Furtado, a Freelance Soft Skills Trainer. Faculty members Mr. Raghavendra Prabhu and Mr. Mithun Ullal facilitated the sessions on General Knowledge and Logical Reasoning, respectively. The training programme concluded with a mock test and the top three scorers were rewarded. The participants were immensely delighted with the infrastructure at Sahyadri and the hospitality rendered to them.

Sahyadrians Recruited through Campus Recruitment Drives


Ms. Soumya and Mr. Abhilash K N, second year MBA students have been recruited by Manipal Technologies in the recently held campus recruitment drive held in the campus.

Mr. Collin Amit D'Souza, Mr. Mohammed Thasrif and Mr. Saifuddeen P of second year MBA have been recruited by Manipal Technologies in the campus recruitment drive held at Sahyadri Campus. In addition to this, five students from Finance specialisation have been shortlisted and will be attending the final round of interview at Manipal.

Campus Recruitment Drives for 2016 batch of students

HCL Talent Care conducted the pool campus recruitment drive for the engineering, MBA & MCA students at the campus. Six students have been shortlisted by the company to attend further rounds of interview.

Mr. Nayeem Shariff, Talent Acquisition Team, Tech Mahindra, facilitated the entire process of the Tech Mahindra pool campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of the 2016 batch. Two students have been selected by the company.

Tetherfi Technologies Pvt. Ltd. conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of 2016 batch in the campus. Ms. Jyotika, Human Resource, Tetherfi Technologies, accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Over 105 students participated in the drive. The results are awaited.

Mandovi Motors Pvt. Ltd. conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of the 2016 batch at the campus. Mr. Suraj Sapalya, Human Resource, Mandovi Motors Pvt. Ltd. accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

Mr. Suraj V, Business Development Manager and the HR team of Spaneos Software Solutions were at the campus to conduct a pooled campus recruitment drive for the 2016 B.E. batch. The results are awaited.

Ms. Hina Goyal and the HR team of SRM Technologies were at the campus to conduct a pooled campus recruitment drive for the 2016 B.E. batch. Seventeen students have been shortlisted to attend further rounds of interview.

CET Documents Verification Centre Inaugurated at Sahyadri

The CET Documents Verification Centre was inaugurated in the Campus by Shri B Devadas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation, Mrs. Saraswathi B, Chief Nodal Officer (Mangalore Region), KEA, in the presence of Mr. Sacheth Suvarna, Assistant Nodal Officer (Mangalore Region), KEA, and Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. They gave instructions to the candidates for the CET document verification process. The CET documents verification was held until the third week of June.

Balasaheb Darade Expert Member Govt. of Maharashtra Visits Sahyadri

Balasaheb Darade, Expert Member, Govt of Maharashtra visited the Campus and interacted with the Chairman Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and Mr. Johnson Tellis, Director, DTlabz. Balasaheb gave insights on developing startups through connections and collaboration with experts. It was a great opportunity for DTlabz to interact with such a great personality.

Mr. Balasaheb Darade, Expert Member, Govt. of Maharashtra, is an innovator, entrepreneur and political leader striving hard for youth empowerment and to solve rural problems. He has founded Shankara Rural Transformation, which concentrates on creating sustainable model villages in India and youth empowerment. He is the founder of the IT company Relations Bridge Innovators which concentrates on elevating startups and helping businesses by providing them access to quality technology and human resources.

Principal discusses ‘What after SSLC & PUC’ on Udaya TV

Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal, was invited by Udaya TV channel for a discussion on ‘What after SSLC & PUC.’ The questions hovered around selection of an engineering college, engineering discipline. The viewers also sought information on the modus operandi of filling option entry and in case of missing an opportunity in medicine how can they still continue their passion in medicine through engineering discipline. A few of them emphasized on what actually a project entails, while a few sought differences between computer science and information science discipline.

HSE Topper Keerthana Rajeev Felicitated

HSE topper, Ms. Keerthana Rajeev was felicitated by Sahyadri in a felicitation programme for her achievement in the 2016 Higher Secondary Examination by scoring cent percent. Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, and Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal and Keerthana Rajeev’s parents were part of the felicitation program. She was wished and advised to scale greater heights in all her academic and future endeavours. Keerthana has been admitted to the Computer Science & Engineering branch of the first year.

DTlabz and Vikas PU College jointly observe World Environment Day

On World Environment Day, Nishanth Kottary, Sujay Shetty, Shrajan Bhandary, Suraj Shettigar and Alistar Lasrado members of DTlabz jointly with Vikas PU College, observed World Environment Day with their initiative to plant trees in barren land with the help of drones. Chief guest, Shri C.T. Ravi, MLA Chikkamangaluru, Dr. Sanjay S. Bijur, chief conservator of Forests & Shri Krishna J Palemar, chairman, Vikas PU Education Trust inaugurated the initiative. They were pleased to embed technology to eradicate deforestation. They also stressed on getting this technology as a result-orientated product to the society. The members of DTlabz interacted with the press and the students in explaining the working of the drone.

Dr. Ananth Prabhu, Associate Professor Department of Computer Science & Engineering interacted with Shri Shripad Naik, Honorable Union Minister for Culture, Government of India. He was greatly impressed by the innovative project Vikas Drone for sowing seeds which contain manure and fertilizers. Vikas Drone is developed by Mr. John, Technical Head, Sahyadri Dreamers Edu Pvt. Ltd and sponsored by the management of Vikas Pre-University College, Mangaluru.

Research Collaboration with University of Central Florida, USA



Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics Communication Engineering, will be working along with Professor Varadraj Prabhu, University of Central Florida, USA, on a research project entitled "Early Cancer Detection using Machine Learning". The objective of this research project is to develop a Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system as a “second opinion” mechanism for early detection of cancer.

CAD is established by taking into account equally the roles of physicians and computers. With CAD, the performance by computers does not have to be comparable to or better than that by physicians, but needs to be complementary to that by physicians. We intend to develop a CAD system for assisting physicians in the early detection of cancer. Mr. Bharath Bhushan, Assistant Professor, Department of MCA along with B.E. and M.Tech. students will be working on this research project.

KSRTC Limited/Express/Shuttle Buses to Stop at Sahyadri

As per the orders received from the KSRTC, Mangaluru and Puttur Division, all the KSRTC buses (Limited/Express/Shuttle) traversing the route Mangalore/Puttur/ Dharmasthala/Uppinangady/Vittal via Sahyadri will stop for pickup and drop in front of the college. All Sahyadrians are requested to make use of the same. It has taken a lot of time and effort and co-operation from various people to get this facility for the benefit of Sahyadrians as well as the local people in the area.
