Dr Devesh is a PHD, CPA (Colorado, US), MBA, CMA and has over twenty years of experience in serving various shared services operations, Banking and finance services, technology and telecom clients. Dr. Devesh has extensive accounting and auditing experience spanning across sectors. Dr Devesh has been dealing with Ind AS, US GAAP/GAAS and IFRS. He has proven excellence in developing Strategic USGAAP & IFRS accounting solutions, managing end to end accounting process improvement project and driving the change.

Mr. Chetak Lodaya, Senior Manager, Compensation & Benefits at LinkedIn was the Guest of Honour of this August event. He is a commerce graduate from J.G College of Commerce Hubli, with Master’s degree in human resources from Symbiosis (SCDL) and is a certified Global Remuneration Professional (GRP) from World at Work, USA. He has over 16 years of work experience. Currently Mr. Lodaya heads employee compensation and benefits for LinkedIn India. Alongside this core responsibility, he heads India-wide efforts in sensitizing and creating awareness around LGBT community with an aim to make a difference in this area to ensure there is greater sense of belonging by diverse groups of employees.

A course that will uplift the value of MBA graduates in the job market. Ernst & Young is a multinational professional services firm headquartered in London, England. It is one of the largest professional services firms in the world and is one of the “Big Four” accounting firms.

Inauguration of KEA Helpline Centre 2018, Govt. of Karnataka at Sahyadri The Helpline Centre – Document Verification for UG CET, NEET, DCET, PGCET Seat Allotment Process of Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), Government of Karnataka was inaugurated at Sahyadri by Mr. Devadas Hegde, Trustee & Mr. Jagannath Chowta, Trustee. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director-Strategy & Planning; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal & Mr. Sacheth Suvarna, Nodal Officer; Mr. Jaya L Moily, Asst. Nodal Officer; Mr. Nagarajappa M, Deputy Director, PUC Board was also present during the inaugural ceremony.

Students who have cleared the entrance exams would visit the Helpline Centre at Sahyadri for their Document Verification and get the eligibility to admit into their respective PG & UG Courses.

Sahyadri provided Internship for students of CIT, Chennai under “Student Exchange Programme”

Student Exchange Programme Student Exchange Programme Under “Student Exchange Programme” initiated between Sahyadri & Chennai institute of Technology (CIT), 1st batch of Mech / Mechatronics students from CIT, Chennai completed their Two-Week internship at Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd, a Mechanical Engineering Start-up Company at Sahyadri. The programme focused on “Professional Metrology” which was kick started under the leadership of Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director – Strategic Planning. This is a first of its kind initiative by Sahyadri which will also enable 16 of our students from Computer Science and Information Science engineering, Mechanical engineering and Electronics and Communication engineering to avail internship in KUKA Robotics from Chennai institute of Technology in the month of July.

Orientation session for the Parents Orientation session for the Parents Orientation session for the parents of new entrants to the engineering stream was held in the Campus in two batches of 100 each. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation extended a warm welcome and addressed the parents briefing them on the overall growth of the college since its inception. He stated that engineering is a process of learning the concepts, rather than studying. He called upon the parents to stimulate their children to utilize the facilities available in the campus and emphasized on creative thinking. He added that the institution is a dead infrastructure to which only students can bring life & make a difference. Mr. Bhandary shared some of his personal views asking parents to develop a friendly relationship with their ward and also closely monitor every activity of theirs. He insisted the parents to teach basic life skills that are required for an individual thus making their child self-dependent, reliable and employable. He mentioned about the platform provided to the students to compete in national and international level events. He suggested parents to avail educational loan in order to make their child financially responsible. He gave additional details about the E-buzz, E-magazine and Newsletter. He re-iterated the importance of dress code that every student must follow in the campus.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director-Strategic Planning, in his speech requested parents to motivate and support their children in such a way that the child enjoys the process of education. He mentioned that parents should make their children more independent so that their common sense will improve. He also said that one should teach child how to face defeat and come out of the same.

Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal in his address requested parents to be in touch with the college regularly and encouraged parents to utilize the facilities provided by the institution to improve their child’s skill.

CET Option Entry Orientation Programme for Engineering and Medical Science aspirants with their Parents at Sahyadri CET Option Entry Orientation Programme for Engineering and Medical Science aspirants with their Parents at Sahyadri More than 100 parents and students participated in the interaction programme regarding engineering and medical science admissions through CET and NEET held at Sahyadri. The programme was organized with an objective to help students and their parents to understand the CET and NEET counselling process, option entries and other queries about admission. This provided a platform for the parents and students to come together, interact and get answers to all their queries.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director–Strategic Planning addressed the audience about how one must make the best choice with regards to the selection of the course and college. Dr. R Srinivasa Roa Kunte, Principal addressed about the common questions like branch selection, placement and career options available for each branch of engineering and medical, the course fee and other expenses, need for and availability of special training for placements, differences between the various branches in Engineering, the provisions for and procedure of change of branch, change of college after first year, difference of fee structure between CET, Comed-K and Management seats and the basis on which one has to select the college. This programme provided the students and their parents with clarity about the entire CET – Option Entry process for admission and they expressed their appreciation to Sahyadri for organizing such a programme.

Sahyadri to collaborate with Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sahyadri to collaborate with Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Three-Day Faculty Development Programme during 18th to 20th June’18 on ‘Student Induction Programme’ sponsored by AICTE was held at Sahyadri. Mr. Sanjeev Chopra, the Resource Person of the FDP shared his views on Universal Human Values and its importance in present scenario to build a better nation. Mr. Dayal from AICTE South-west Region Bengaluru was also present and shared his thoughts on the importance of student induction programme for engineering institutions. Mr. Dayal went around the campus and appreciated the efforts of management in terms of student-centric initiatives which is on par with AICTE expectations. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director-Strategic Planning and Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal presented the innovative features of Sahyadri to them. A total of 100 participants from 30 institutes attended the FDP.

The key takeaways of this programme was enabling faculty to connect students to the society, adaptability to new environment, developing a holistic view of life and to make the faculty realize their responsibility through the process of bonding among the students, sensitization to their living environment (hostel and college staff), assimilation in the ethos and culture of the Institution.

AICTE sponsored FDP concludes Prof. R Hariharan, Advisor - AICTE was a part of the Valedictory ceremony. While addressing the gathering he spoke on Model Curriculum for the first year, Internships, Faculty induction programme, Exam reforms and also about creating a common platform for engineering aspirants. He also shared his views on responsibility of faculty members to inspire the students and take care of students with diversified mind. He went around the campus and appreciated the efforts of management on the infrastructure and start-ups. Few faculty participants had an opportunity to share their experience on the three-day FDP.

Inauguration of Two-Day PGCET Training Programme organized by MBA Department The inaugural ceremony of Two-Day PGCET Training Programme organized by the Department of Business Administration (MBA) was held in the campus. Over 300 students from various places like Bengaluru, Thirthahalli, Shimoga, Kasaragod, Kundapura, Udupi, Bhatkal & Mangaluru aspiring to pursue MBA under Government quota in Top B-Schools of Karnataka participated in the programme. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA welcomed the gathering and said that this “Community Initiative” of Sahyadri is conducted to create awareness about the government quota in the B-Schools & also to provide training to the graduates so that they could join their dream institute to pursue their MBA Degree. Prof. Sushma V, Chief Coordinator of the programme briefed the audience about the relevance of organizing this event. She introduced the In-house facilitators & External Resource Person to the audience. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal in his Presidential Address appreciated the students for the genuineness with which they are preparing for the entrance exam. He also said that the rank that they get in the PGCET exam is secondary but priority is choosing their “Dream College” to pursue MBA during Option Entry.

During the Day One of PGCET Training, 5 parallel sessions were conducted in four areas - Quantitative Analysis, Logical Reasoning & General Intelligence, General Knowledge & Proficiency in English Language. The sessions were facilitated by the in-house faculty viz. Dr. Vidyavathi K; Mr. Guru Prasad Rao; Prof. MithunUllal; Mr. Ankith S Kumar & Prof. Samarth Shenoy and the external facilitator’s - Mr. Vivekananda Kamath, Director, V-Reach Coaching Academy, Udupi; Mr. Rahul & Mr. Gino, Insights Coimbatore. The USP of the programme was the “PGCET Practice Book” which has been exclusively designed by the in-house faculty of the MBA department under the leadership of Prof. Raghavendra Prabhu which was presented to the PGCET Training participants.

During the Day two, there was a Mock PGCET conducted for the participants. Top scorers in the Mock test were appreciated and awarded by the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary during the Valedictory Ceremony which was compered by one of the PGET Training participant – Ms. Ramya B from SDM Degree College, Mangaluru.

It was encouraging to see participants volunteer to share their opinion about the PGCET Training Programme. Prof. Sushma V, Chief Coordinator of the programme concluded the session stating that Sahyadri is an extended family of the participants and invited them to use the resources of the institute.

Foundation Course for the new batch of Engineering students organized at Sahyadri

A two-week foundation course for the new batch of engineering students on “Fundamentals to Learning in Engineering Sciences” was organized in Sahyadri Campus. The course focused on building a strong foundation for the students in basic sciences like mathematics, physics, computer sciences and other related subjects. Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director–Strategic Planning addressed the students and emphasized on the importance of the foundation course. He urged the students to consider this course not as just a subject oriented course but as a “foundation for life”. He also stressed that education doesn’t mean mugging up of the subject and gaining marks without any intellectual growth, but should be more of practical oriented. Subjects like Mathematics should be used in real life and not just in books. He also conducted unique activities for the students that helped them to tap their sub-conscious mind. He explained about the great potentials that are locked within students and asked them to strive to unlock it to reach their full potentials. The foundation course was facilitated by the in-house faculty and resource persons from industry. This programme has enabled the students to open up and has facilitated group learning.

Sudarshan, Chief General Manager (Instrumentation and Electrical) and Mr. Krishna Hegde, Chief Gneral Manager (Projects) of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited visited Sahyadri Campus.

They had a fruitful interaction with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation; Mr. Sunder, CEO, Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt.Ltd; Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Director – Strategic Planning; Dr. Manjappa, Director–Research & Development; Dr. R Srinivasa Kunte, Principal and Prof. S.S. Balakrishna, Vice Principal.

The executives visited the start-up companies functioning in the campus. They appreciated the various innovative programmes implemented by the college and the support it gives for the development and transformation of innovative ideas into actual projects. They were impressed by the State-of-the-art technology and infrastructure that is used at Sahyadri campus. They said that the initiatives at Sahyadri are unique and will help students to be industry-ready once they come out of the portals of Sahyadri. MRPL hopes that this visit by its officials has paved ways for strengthening of mutual ties further to build long lasting relations in the years to come.

Dean-Branding & Promotion meets the Director of NISM, Mumbai to set up “Centre of Financial Studies” at the MBA Department

Officials of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Mr. Guru Prasad Rao, Dean - Branding & Promotion visited National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Mumbai, an educational institute promoted by Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). A meeting was arranged with Dr. M Thenmozi, Director of NISM and Prof. Sukumaran, Dean Academics and Financial Literacy Programmes of NISM.

The discussion has resulted in setting up of "Centre for Financial Studies" at the Dept. of Business Administration in Sahyadri Campus. NISM will launch several certification programmes on Stock Markets and on the current trending topics.

Mr. Rao also visited the Head Quarters of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), wherein a proposal will be submitted shortly to set up a SIDBI chair at the Dept. of Business Administration in Sahyadri Campus which will focus towards executing social projects and encouraging entrepreneurship among the rural youths in coordination with SIDBI. The above projects will be executed under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA.

June 5th - World Environment Day – “Beat The Plastic Pollution”

Beat the Plastic Pollution World Environment Day is the "people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth. The theme for the World Environment Day 2018 was “Beat Plastic Pollution". Staff and students of Sahyadri participated in the Five-Day Beach Cleaning - “Beat the Plastic” campaign and worked tirelessly to rid the beaches of plastic pollution.

Commemoration of International Day of Yoga at Sahyadri In commemoration of The International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2018, Sahyadri organized a seminar for the new batch of engineering students on the topic “Yoga for Healthy Living”. Shri Kushalappa Gowda, M.Sc, M.Phil in Yogic Sciences and Founder of Avishkar Yoga Therapy Centre was invited to address the students on the origin, concepts, ideology, types and techniques of Yoga. He spoke on Patanjali Maharushi and his Yoga sutras, Astanga Yoga, Ashanas, Mudras and Pranayama techniques. He demonstrated the techniques of Pranayama and Yoga Nidra and guided the students to do the same. He explained the rich benefits of Yogashana to the students. Talking to the students, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal shared his experience of practicing Yoga and the benefits he received by it. He encouraged the students to inculcate yoga practice in their daily routine to have a healthy life.

Dr. Abhishek Vaish from IIIT Allahabad visited Sahyadri Dr. Abhishek Vaish from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad visited Sahyadri and interacted with the faculty and staff. Dr. Abhishek is an active researcher in the field of Cyber Security. During his interaction with faculty members, he shared the information about the latest trends in Cybercrimes and factors for the growth of it. He also emphasized on setting up the Cyber security lab in Sahyadri Campus and also designing the curriculum in context to industrial connect for Professionals & students. He motivated faculty to work on the various domains of Cyber security. He has opened up the minds of young Researchers for product development in resolving the security industry’s research problems.

Sahyadri to Collaborate with NASSCOM India Team from Sahyadri headed by Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA and Mr. Guru Prasad Rao, Dean-Branding & Promotion had a fruitful interaction with Mr. Ashok Pamidi, Senior Director & Lead Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives, NASSCOM India, the result of which has led to the launch of NASSCOM certification programmes in Sahyadri Campus.

NASSCOM India is a not-for-profit industry association which is the apex body for the 154 billion dollar Indian IT BPM industry. NASSCOM works with diverse stakeholders to build a focused initiative that enables the growth of the sector through policy advocacy, skill building, research, start-up programmes, facilitate business and increase industry outreach.

The collaboration will result in launching certification programmes in Sahyadri campus focussing on the recent trends in the Engineering and Management Domain. The students will be certified jointly by NASSCOM, Govt of India and National Skill Development Corporation (NSC).

Sahyadri to collaborate with Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Dr. Vishal Smartha, Director-MBA and Mr. Guru Prasad Rao, Dean-Branding & Promotion initiated the talks with Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore. Meeting with Dr. G Raghuram, Director-IIM Bangalore and his team has resulted in Academic collaboration with the launch of IIM Certification programmes in Sahyadri Campus.

The certification programmes will be open for Engineering and Management students of the institute. This will have a blend of online and offline delivery, wherein few sessions will also have the presence of IIM (B) faculty team visiting the campus. A thorough discussion was also held with Prof. P D Jose, Professor-Strategy, Chairperson of Digital learning and Prof. Usha Ganesan, Manager-MOOCs Digital learning on the methodology and conduct of the course and how the partnership would earn a certification on Advanced Management programme with IIMB certification for the MBA students. With the growing need for Management expertise along with Engineering, discussion was on the grounds of courses which Engineering students could pursue & earn a Management certification from IIMB.

The certification courses will include Innovation and IT Management, Strategy and Sustainable Enterprise, Organizational Design, CRM, Financial and Management Accounting Analysis, Corporate Finance, Statistics for Business, Strategic Management and Operations Management.

Shri Rajiv Kumar, Scientist E, International Cooperation (Bilateral), DST, GOI visited Sahyadri Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Senior Scientist, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India gave a talk on DST grants to faculty. He spoke about the DST structure and the available grants under the DST umbrella. He informed about DST bilateral grants organized with other countries, Early career research funds, Women in Science and Technology funds and many other opportunities. He encouraged the young faculty to apply for DST funds. He provided general guidelines about what is generally expected from the grant proposals and encouraged faculty to start writing research grant proposals. He has also given insight on various funding opportunities available under DST schemes and Programs such as International Travel Support (ITS) Programme, Extramural Research Funding (Individual Centric), National PD Fellowship, Early Career Research Award, SERB Distinguished Fellowship, women scientists’ scheme (WOS), National Initiative for Nurturing and Harnessing Innovations (NIDHI) & Promoting Innovations in Individuals, Start-ups and MSMEs (PRISM).

Sahyadrians Recruited by Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd • Varshith K B, Mohammed Mansoor & Raghavendra Shetty from the Department of Mechanical Engineering have been selected by Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd and Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) for the position of Graduate Mechanical Engineer (GME) with highest salary package of Rs.14 Lakhs per annum in the recently held campus recruitment drive for the 2018 outgoing batch.

• Musthaq Ahamad from 3rd year Computer Science & Engineering has been selected as the Github Campus expert after clearing several rounds of interview and he is a technical head of Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) – Technical club of Sahyadri which is affiliated to Google, Mozilla, Microsoft, OWASP programmes etc.

• Aamir Hassan Yousuf, 2nd year MBA Marketing student has been placed as Sales/Business Development Associate at Propadis with a package of Rs. 5 lakh plus performance rewards and incentives.

Campus Recruitment Drive – UniCourt • Mangalore Infotech Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (UniCourt) conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A recruitment team headed by Mr. Prashant Shenoy, Director was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 70 students attended the drive and the results are awaited.

Sahyadrian designs utility equipment for Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Limited At the request of Caliper, Mr. Allen, a 4th Semester student of Mechanical Engineering, designed a “Tool Holder Stand” for storing CNC Machine Tools. Caliper manufactured this product in their shop and got it installed. The market price of this “Tool Holder” is approx. Rs.50,000/-. But, Caliper has been able to manufacture the product at 25% of market price ie. At a cost of just Rs. 12,000/-.
