Grand Finale of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018
Department of Business Administration organized “Sahyadri Whiz Quiz-2018”, an inter-collegiate quiz competition for undergraduate students. Around 7,000 students from selected 50 colleges in Mangaluru, Udupi, Kodagu, Karwar and Kasargod participated in the college level round, out of which 950 students were selected to participate in the Grand Finale at Sahyadri. The day witnessed an enormous crowd of participating students who were enthusiastic to combat in the final round. Mr. KamakhayaPrashadAggarwal, Business Head – Karnataka and Goa, HDFC Ltd was the Chief Guest & Mr. Pradeep Suresh, Director – Financial Accounting Advisory Services, E&Y Associates LLP was the Guest of Honour during the Inaugural Ceremony.
Prof. GayathriShetty, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018 welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA introduced Sahyadri and the Dept. of Business Administration to the gathering. She also gave the bird’s eye view of the flagship event Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018.
Immediately after the formal function, the first preliminary round was held. Out of 315 teams of 3 each, 150 teams qualified to the second preliminary round. Finally 6 teams were selected for the Grand Finale. Swami Maheshathmanandaji, Correspondent, Ramakrishna Institute of Moral & Spiritual Institution, Mysuru& Mr. JayarajRai, Chairman, Shri Ramakrishna Credit Co-operative Society felicitated the winners. Dept. of Commerce, Manipal won 1st prize with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 25,000, SDM Ujire won 2nd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru won 3rd place with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Dr. Sudhir Kumar Mishra, CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace, Distinguished Scientist & Director, (BrahMos), DRDO visited Sahyadri. At first, he expressed his curiosity to visit and view the innovative labs, the in-house start-ups and the student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri as he was already given a heads up by one of the esteemed Guests of Sahyadri Conclave held early this year. Post this; he had an intellectual session with the students and staff on his interactions with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. At the beginning of his talk, he made a remark that he was astonished to visit one of the innovation centres in Mumbai, however Sahyadri has surpassed his idea of an innovation centre. He added that Sahyadri teaches - “What an actual Innovation Centre is”.
 
While addressing the audience, he said that Innovation is the key to generate revenue & resources for the nation. He then shared anecdotes of his interactions with the great Missile Man - Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. He recalled how blessed he was to work in the team of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and mentioned that he would have been an inferior human being if haven’t met him. He recalled the ideologies of the legend and highlighted that only education does not make you Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. You should be a thinking person and Sahyadri is creating such an ambience for the youngsters to be innovators. He re-iterated to students that proven path cannot take us anywhere hence we need newer path for excellence. Finally, he concluded stating that today’s generation is inspirational, however should be shaped and fine tuned to bring out effective contributions from them for the nation.
Dr. BVK Sastry Founder of Yoga-Samskrutam University, Florida, USA visits Sahyadri
 
Unique interactive session by Dr. BVK Sastry, Founder & Chancellor of Yoga-Samskrutam University, Florida, USA was held at Sahyadri. Selected students of different batches and the Challengers Team along with faculty members attended and participated in the session. Addressing the gathering as “Yogis and Yoginis” to pinpoint the identity of an Indian, Dr. Sastry went on to assert the need of becoming and be a Yogi. “Therefore you become a Yogi” Sri Krishna, the Teacher told Arjuna the student. There can be one’s own reason to support ‘therefore’.
Sahyadri Girls Volleyball team win in the VTU Tournament
Sahyadri Girls Volleyball team won the Runner-up Trophy of VTU Rest of Bangaluru Zone & VTU Inter Zone Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Tournament held at GMIT, Davangere& AEC, Bengaluru.
Achievements of first year students at Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani- Hyderabad
Team METANOIA - First Year Engineering participated in the Three-Day Annual Techo-Management Fest (ATOMS) organized by Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani- Hyderabad, a technical and science institute for higher education in India, located in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Having achieved 5th place in the event ‘Law Follower’, the students gained entry into Finals in the event ‘Paper Presentation’.

First year students participated in various Robotic and Automotive related competitions at ABHIKALPAN-18, a tech-fest held at IIITDM Jabalpur, MP and won 3rd place in Minefield Escape and 3rd place in Hover Craft.
Achievement of first year students at IIT Gandhinagar
Team Yuvgen, a 12 member team of students from first year engineering participated in the Two-Day fest which included events like Roboquest&Sesmism and won second place in Roboquest.
Achievement of First Year Engineering students at NIT Goa
Team Captivatars, a 15 member team of students from first year engineering participated in the Three-Day fest in events such as Line Follower, Robo Soccer &Robo Race and won 3rd position in Robo Race.
Achievements of First Years’ at IIT Varanasi
Team Ansys is a team of 20 students of first year that participated in the 3-days technical fest. The events that were organized were, Maze Explorer and Water Rocket. Out of the 110 teams that participated, Sahyadrian Team

• Cleared the first round and secured first position in Maze Explorer.
Achievement of First year Engineering students at NIT Kurukshethra
Team Magneton, a team comprising of 15 students from first year engineering participated in Techspardha in RC Bot Race and won Runners in that event.

• Evobi Automations Pvt Ltd-Bibox Labs visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 172 students attended the drive, out of which 8 Students got selected.
• Karvy India visited Sahyadri to conduct Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 208 students attended the drive, out of which 17 students have been selected.

• Ashwitha Crasta, from the Department of Information Science & Engineering was selected by Dell EMC for the post of Software Quality Engineer. The package offered is 6.5 Lakhs per annumn. MsCrasta was a student of 2017 passed out engineering batch.
• Summit Technodyne Private Limited visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 batch. Mr. Ashwin Kumar, Sales Director was at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process. A total of 24 students got shortlisted & the results are awaited.
• H B Hemaraj from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering was selected by Cadence in the recently held Pool Campus Recruitment drive for the 2018 outgoing batch.
• JovitaSeemaDsouza, Thilak Raj, Vaishnavi C Bhat, B SourabhAdyanthaya and Prathiksha Mohan, Students of 2nd year MBA have been selected for the position of Assistant Manager-Customer Service by Axis Bank in the recently held interview.

• Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS) visited Sahyadri to conduct Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 33 students attended the drive. The final results are awaited.
• Ajaygan K, from the 2017 passed out batch of Mechanical Engineering has bagged a jaw-dropping package of Rs.14 Lakhs per annum from 'Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd'. He has been appointed for the designation of a Graduate Mechanical Engineer in the recently held campus recruitment drive for the 2017 batch.
• Ethnus visited Sahyadri to conduct a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 217 students attended the drive, out of which 35 students were shortlisted. The final results are awaited.

• Solvers India visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 334 students attended the drive. Final results are awaited.
