A Host of Dignitaries Visit Sahyadri

Sri Ramachandra, IFS, Secretary Ecology, Environment and Forest, Sri H K Anand, Scientific Officer Ecology, Environment and Forest, Government of Karnataka, Dr. I M Hussain Rtd, Scientist, Indian Bureau and Mines (IBM), member SCAC Govt. of Karnataka, Sri Puranik, Environmental Officer and Sri J Nayak and SEO KSPCB Mangalore visited Sahyadri. They expressed their happiness to see the infrastructure and facilities provided in the College. They praised the growth of the institution, specifically complimented the SAE Aero Design team, start-ups of Sahyadri and Hands-on Experience Laboratory. Sri Ramachandra assured he would address the faculty in times to follow. He complimented the sincere effort of the management and said that the current growth and operational structure is towards an IIT culture.

Mr. Prabhakar Shetty, Mentor, Allcargo Logistics visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and the core members of the research team. He appreciated the management in providing the best ambience for learning and also the student initiatives of startup companies. He gave valuable inputs to improve student employability and has explored the possibility of providing internship and placement offers to our students.

Mr. Shravan Shetty, who accompanied him during the visit, has a Masters in Astrophysics from University of Liverpool, UK. He has submitted his Ph.D. papers at Oxford University and will be conferred a degree shortly. He has further plans to be a part of the research core group at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He has assured the DTLabz members to mentor them for higher studies and also help the institution improve its connectivity with research groups across the globe.

Mr. B.M. Palakshappa, co-operative leader from Shikaripur, Shivamogga district visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Mr. Palakshappa is the former president of the Shikaripur Taluk Panchayat and is a social worker involving himself in various tasks for the welfare of the society.

During his visit, he went around the campus and appreciated the management for having set up such a wonderful campus for the students thus creating an environment for learning.

Mr. Radhakrishna, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation along with Mr. Sateesh Chandra visited the campus and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi and the Administrator, Dr. C. K. Manjunath. They were extremely happy to see the progress made by the college and were in awe of the Hands-on Experience lab and also the start-ups of Sahyadri.

Dr. K. S. Pujari Professor and Academic coordinator and Mr. Vinod S Aralikatti, Training and Placement Officer, Vishwanatha Rao Rural Institute of Technology (VDRIT), Haliyal Dist, Uttar Kannada, visited the institution to study the development in the institution in a short span of time. They praised the growth of the institution and the infrastructure and facilities provided in the College.

Mr. Poornesh Kumar H G, Syndicate member, Kuvempu University and his team visited Sahyadri campus and interacted with Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Administrator. They went around the institution and appreciated the vision of real education. They expressed their happiness to see the infrastructure and facilities provided in the campus.

Mr. Shravan Shetty, pursuing Doctor of Philosophy, from University of Oxford visited Sahyadri and interacted with the faculty members. As committed to the institute, he made a visit to Sahyadri and addressed on the various aspects of Astrophysics. Though the audience was novice, he presented the topic in a very simple manner that everyone was able to understand it well. He introduced the topic with the planets and stars,went into the galaxies through his visionary telescope, expained the theories of Big-Bang, Black hole.

He then took up the discussion with the students and answered all their queries. He made the audience realize the word of "passion and commitment" in any discipline. He assured total support to connect all interested faculty members and students with the foreign universities of his contact as well as to appraise them on projects and proposals from varied funding agencies.

Later, he interacted with the members of DTLabz. He gave a brief idea on how project-oriented learning over marks-oriented learning can help students get into major universities. He appreciated the initiatives of DTlabz in encouraging students on innovation and invention. He assured to be a source of connection for students to help pursue their higher studies abroad.

Mr. G. R. Venkatesh, Regional General Manager, The Hindu, Mangalore, visited Sahyadri and interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. The Administrator, Dr. C. K. Manjunath and Mr. Lokesh, Asst. Professor from the Department of Business Administration were present during the interaction. He was briefed about the vision of the campus and the efforts that are put in to implement it practically through programs such as SSTH, SPSS and WhizQuiz. Mr. Venkatesh went around the institute and appreciated the management's efforts in providing the ambience best suited for learning. He was impressed to witness the projects developed by the students at campus.

AEROPHILIA 2016: A National Level Aero Modeling Competition

Two-day National Level Aero Modeling Competition for undergraduate students of the entire country “AEROPHILIA” organized by team Challengers and Dreamers from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was inaugurated by three eminent personalities Mr. A.V. Aravindh, a Controls Engineer and presently working as a Systems Engineer for the Light Combat Aircraft, LCA-Tejas Program at Aeronautical Development Agency, Mr. Chinmaya, an Electronics Engineer working on the avionics systems of LCA-Tejas at ADA and Dr. Pavana Prabhakar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas at El Paso, Texas. Mr. Mehtab Hussain, Aerotrix Engineer and Mr. Gopa Kumar Team Lead, Aerotrix were part of the inaugural ceremony. The invited guests opened the competition by flagging off the Aerophilia Flag in the aircraft controlled by Mr. Vishal Rao, Member, Mangalore Flying Club. Mr. J. P. Rao of the Mangalore Flying Club was part of the inaugural function.

Mr. A. V. Aravindh also gave technical talks on the importance of RC Modeling, the various career paths available and the importance of aero modeling in the development of the nation. An Air Show was conducted by Mangalore flying club and Aerotrix, Bangalore. The air show provided a multitude of learning experiences in mathematics, history, arts/graphics and science. Many competitors from all over India took part in the Aero Modeling Competition and showcased their talents. The competition attracted the nation’s aero modelling enthusiasts to Mangalore. The students of Vikas P U College visited the campus to witness the Aerophilia -2016 event. During their visit, they interacted with the IIT students who were participants of Aerophilia and gained insight into aero modelling.

Team Challengers also conducted Paperplane flying competition, Flight Simulation and Rubik’s cube for the viewers and also the guests. The participating teams designed a radio controlled aircraft with the limitations regulated in its dimension and the power system. The aircraft is validated by its maneuverability and maximum payload carrying capacity, which will be tested in two successive rounds. A total of seven teams participated which included premier institutes like IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and other colleges from Mangalore.

This event is conducted by Team Challengers and Dreamers of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management; a group of students passionate about aeronautics and robotics and had participated in SAE International Aero Design Competition 2016 held at Fort Worth, Texas, USA, Boeing Aero Modeling Competition and various other aero modeling competitions.

On Day-2 of Aerophilia 2016, IIT Kanpur, NITK Surathkal, AISSMS, Delhi Public School and Mt. Carmel High School were shortlisted during the second round of the flying competition. Winners were selected based on flight scene formula. The Maze Runner Competitions were also held during the second round of the Aero Modelling Competition.

At the valedictory of Aerophilia 2016, Honourable Minister for Higher Education, Karnataka, Mr. Kimmane Ratnakar was the Chief Guest, Dr. Hansraj Alva, renowned physician of Mangalore, Mr. A.V. Aravindh, a Controls Engineer and presently working as a Systems Engineer for the Light Combat Aircraft, LCA-Tejas Program at Aeronautical Development Agency, Mr. Chinmaya, an Electronics Engineer working on the avionics systems of LCA-Tejas at ADA, Mr. Mehtab Hussain, Aerotrix Engineer and Mr. Gopa Kumar, Team Lead, Aerotrix, were the Guests of Honour. The winners were felicitated by the dignitaries during the valedictory function.

In his address to the gathering, Mr. Kimmane Ratnakar congratulated all the winners. He said that the world is very wide with plenty of competitions which they should utilize. Science is very important for today’s environment. Life is still more important. Money and science are instruments for life. He thanked everyone for giving him the opportunity to be present on the occasion.

Dr. Ananth Prabhu interacts with PM Narendra Modi

Dr. Ananth Prabhu, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering interacted with the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi at the international airport at Mangalore on his recent visit. During his interaction, Dr. Ananth Prabhu briefed about project-based learning, research and the various unique initiatives taken up by Sahyadri for the betterment of society in the field of higher education.

Ten Top Civil Engineering Companies hold Campus Recruitment Drive at Sahyadri

A two-day campus recruitment drive for civil engineering students was conducted, with ten top civil engineering companies of Mangalore, Bangalore and Kerala visiting Sahyadri.

Er Ujwal D'Souza, CEO, Marian Projects, Er Anil Hegde, Structural Consultant, Vimal Anil Structural Consultants, Mangalore, Mr Sabu, Sales Manager and Mr Shijo from Intercad, Trivandrum inaugurated the drive. Er Ujwal D'Souza, the chief guest of the function gave a briefing regarding the work profile of Marian Projects. Mr Sabu, Sales Manager, Intercad, Trivandrum, congratulated the department for organizing the event.

Marian Projects, Roy & Shenoy, Vimal Anil Civil & Structural Consultants, Leap Institute, Govardhan & Company, Cadd Center, Mangalore based companies and Poorna Design (P)Ltd, Bangalore, Dearth Architects, Cochin, Intercad, Kozhikode, Trivandrum conducted the recruitment.

Ten students were shortlisted by Marian Projects, Mr. Jnanesh and Mr. Rajath were recruited by Roy and Shenoy, thirteen students were shortlisted by Govardhan & Company, three were shortlisted by Vimal Anil Civil & Structural Consultants, three students were shortlisted for Poorna Design (P)Ltd, Bangalore, ten were shortlisted by Intercad, Kozhikode, one student was shortlisted by Leap Institute and two students were shortlisted by Cadd Center, Mangalore. The results of the shortlisted students are awaited.

At the valedictory Mr. Anil Hegde, Structural Consultant, Vimal Anil Structural Consultants, Mangalore was the chief guest. In his address he appreciated that students have a high degree of competence in academics as well as in co-curricular fields. He was impressed by the project oriented approach adopted by the college in the academic schedule of the students.

Four prizes for Sahyadrians in Srishti-State level project competition

64 students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management participated in the project exhibition and paper presentations at Srishti 2016 a State level project competition conducted by ABVP. Faculty members Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Ms. Ashutha, Ms. Bianca Baby and Ms. Biniya Binoy accompanied the students. Sahyadrians bagged 4 prizes in the various events conducted at Srishti 2016.

The First place was bagged by Jeethan Grinal Rodrigues, third year Civil Engineering for his technical paper presentation on `To develop a low cost water filter to remove arsenic impurities in rural north Karnataka districts’ under the guidance of Dr. Gautham Jeppu. The Second place went to Pavithree B Shetty, Sneha V Kamath, Supraja, Sherlin Niel Pinto, Shree Krishna and Sanath R Kashyap students of second year Electronics & Communication engineering in Aviskhar (SPSS 2nd year BE project) in IoT section for their project titled, `Automated City Using IoTs’ under the guidance of Mr. Harisha A, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

In Aviskhar (SPSS inter-disciplinary project) in the agricultural section, Harsha Rama Bhat, second year Mechanical Engineering and Swarna Sagarika, second year Electronics & Communication Engineering bagged the second place for their project titled, `Smart portable powder sprayer for agriculture purpose” under the guidance of Prof. Prasanna Kumar C, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. In technical paper presentation for Computer Science section, Dhanush P Shetty, Ashmitha J Rodrigues and Bishwas Mishra, fourth year Computer Science students won the Second place for their project titled, `Enhancement to Improve the Experience of Hand Button Interaction in a Virtual Flight Simulator using Augmented Reality’.

Dr. S Manjappa, Director (R&D, Consultancy), Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Dr. Richard Pinto, Director-CENT, Dr. K K Poornesh, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, John Nikhil and Shrajan Bhandary, members of DTlabz attended a meeting on Fish Oil & UAV projects at National Design & Research Foundation (NDRF), Bangalore. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Ramachandra, Director, Institution of Engineers (IE), Bangalore. The topics in the meeting were: Extraction of Omega-3 Fatty Acid from Fish Oil & conversion of waste to Bio-Diesel, Agricultural Application of UAVs and Autonomous Boat for Water Quality Monitoring. Research projects such as seed bombing using UAV for deforestation, underwater surveillance robot and flapper ornithopters are open for students to work. NDRF has extended its helping hand in providing resources for completing and commercializing the above mentioned projects as full-fledged products.

“RENEW” Summer Camp hosted by DTlabz

The three-day Summer Camp `Renew’ hosted by DTlabz was inaugurated by Dr. K. V. Rao, Director, Pilikula Regional Science Center. Prof. Balakrishna S.S., Vice Principal, Prof. Umshankar B.S.,Dean Academic and Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Administrator were present on the occasion.

Activities during the camp included hands-on explanation of electronics concepts, demonstration of Quad Copter and 3D Printer which was carried on with four-wheeled bot building. The participants were made to think, analyse and answer a set of aptitude questions in the form of a game. In subsequent sessions the participants worked on eliminating the junkyard by choosing the right combination of things and sharing their ideas on beautifying the things junked in the yard. Simultaneously, they also prepared a report of their model, presenting them using PowerPoint, thereby building their writing skill, speaking skills and boosting their confidence while presenting in front of various groups.

In one session the eager participants learnt how to build a solar phone charging hub to create awareness among the people to use renewable energy and go green. The session ended by them making their wired remote control car go autonomous using sensors and racing them against each other.

On the last and final day of Renew Summer Camp different activities related to science was conducted. Events such as treasure hunt, mind storming game, science quiz, planting seedlings, star gazing and many others. Dr. C K Manjunath, Prof. of Humanities & Administrator, addressed the students on Concept of Concentration. Ms. Juliana Tellis, Lecturer, St. Agnes PU College, conducted a science quiz for students. Mr. Vishal Rao, Kinetic Hobbies, presented an air show to the students. The students also participated in creative activities throughout the day.

“RENEW” is an initiative of DTlabz, to provide exposure to students toward science. Each activity was designed for students to enhance their problem solving skills, interaction and creativity with fun learning approach.

The three-day Renew Summer Camp organized by DTlabz; a student startup of Sahyadri drew to a close with a grand valedictory function. Mr. Brian Jeevan Fernandes, research scholar at NITK was the chief guest. He told the participants how to identify their dreams as "passion or fashion" and work towards achieving it.

Participants Abhishek Jathan, Rishan Rao, Nishika B Shetty and Rithwik Rao shared their fun-filled learning experience with the audience. Two parents of the participants shared their feelings on how their child was excited about this camp and how they saw a transformation in them. They were very happy about the quality, facility and the level of interest shown by us. The camp concluded with a night sky observation under the guidance of Dr Jayanth, an amateur astronomer. Each participant left with smiles on their face with a promise to visit DTlabz again.

Solar Phone Charging Hub Installed by Summer Camp Participants

The Renew Summer Camp saw its first success with the participants installing the solar phone charging hub near the Nethravathi Auditorium in the Sahyadri campus. There was high excitement among those who had participated in the camp to see their first mega project successfully implemented. A book on the experience of the participants was also released on the occasion. They were then taken to Pilikula Regional Science Centre where they experienced the magic of science and how different scientific aspects work. It was a truly a memorable day for the campers and the members of DTlabz to see the young minds mesmerized with the beauty of science and its power to create.

Sahyadrians Win Accolades at 16th Annual VTU Youth Fest

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management bagged the thirteenth place out of eighty-five colleges in the 16th Annual VTU Youth Fest organized by Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Moodbidri. Students participated in 23 events under the guidance of Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art and Culture.

Vaibhav Shenoy, bagged the First place in Spot Painting, Mithun bagged the Second place in Cartooning, in the Folk Group Dance Competition, Varsha D Shetty, Shetty Dhanisha Chaithra V Murthy, Arpitha V Shetty, Ankitha K., Paresh Saliyan, Shreya Kottary, Mayuri J.V., Rashmikiran, Roshani Maria D’Souza won the Fifth place. In Western Solo Singing Leora D’Souza won the Seventh place, the Sixth place was bagged by Yatheesh, Sarvesh, Prekshith, Rohith, Mithun and Deeraj in the Mime Competition, while in the Skit Competition, the Seventh place was bagged by Chaithra V Murthy, Arpitha V Shetty, Ankitha K., Paresh Saliyan and Yatheesh.

Prajna A. ranked fourth in VTU MBA exams

Ms Prajna A, 2013-2015 batch student of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has bagged the fourth rank in the MBA Examinations conducted by Visvesvaraya Technical University, Belagavi. She has achieved this by scoring 79.08% marks. It’s a proud moment for Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management as Ms Prajna A. is the only candidate to secure a rank in the entire Mangaluru Region. Ms. Prajna is recruited by KPMG through campus placement and currently is working as Associate 1. She is handling investment related audit-specific to clients “Prudential Funds” and NB Alternatives Primary Funds and also core EGPA process- e-Audit GDC procedure analysis.

Chairman interact with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman and Mrs. Prasanna Bhandary, Secretary, Bhandary Foundation met and interacted with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, commonly known as Sadhguru, recently at Bangalore. Sadhguru is an Indian yogi, mystic and author. He founded the Isha Foundation, a non-profit organisation which offers yoga programs around the world, including India, United States, Great Britain, Lebanon, Singapore, Canada, Malaysia, Uganda, China, Nepal and Australia. The Foundation is also involved in various social and community development activities, which have resulted in the Foundation being granted special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Sadhguru's vision and understanding of modern social and economic issues have led to interviews with BBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNNfn, and Newsweek International. His insights are regularly featured in India's leading national newspapers. A well-known public figure, he regularly draws crowds of more than 300,000 people for his public talks and "sathsangs".

Felicitation to SSLC and HSE toppers was organised in Sahyadri. Prof K Byrappa, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University, Mr. Ramesh, President, Urban Development Authority, Shivamogga and Syndicate Member, Kuvempu University , Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman and Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal, S.S.L.C. topper Mr. B.S.Ranjan along with his parents were present on this occasion.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman said that it is a great achievement in Karnataka. So far, after the SSLC board has been formed, no one scored cent percent till today. He stated that anyone can become doctors and engineers, when proper guidance and advice is given. He insisted students to take the right career decision.

B. S. Ranjan shared his opinion and his future aim in life. He said that everyone must cope up with competition and his own efforts. . Life is just like a road hump and we must know to balance everything. He advised students not to be stressed when they fail. His goal in life is to become an IAS officer or Doctor, that is how he can serve the nation and his parents.

Mr. Ramesh, Syndicate Member, Kuvempu University said that he has become the hero of Karnataka through his achievement. He is a role model for students. He wished all the best for his future.

Prof. K Byrappa, VC,, Mangalore University, in his presidential speech stated that. It’s a great achievement since it is impossible to obtain full marks. To succeed in life one should have a goal and work hard to achieve it. Teacher’s play a very important role in moulding students. He told faculties to motivate students to think creatively and also added that students should have curiosity to learn new things.

Dr. Pavana Prabhakar addresses Sahyadrians

Dr. Pavana Prabhakar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas at El Paso and daughter of Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions. She addressed a students of the first year, third year mechanical and civil students on the `Road map to higher studies in US, her own professional growth as a lead example.’

Dr. Pavana Prabhakar earned her Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Structures), University of California, Berkeley, B.Tech. Civil and Environmental Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Karnataka. She has received several honours and awards and her research papers have been published in international journals. She is a reviewer of many journals. She has received external funding of Rs. 8 crores for the many projects that she is currently involved in. She was recently awarded the “Best Young Researcher” by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), The United States of America.

In her inspiring talk to the students she said that professional development calls for excellence in education, a minimum cutoff–current aggregate 70% and higher in UG, minimum cutoff in GRE and TOEFL which varies from university to university. She further emphasized that most people stop when they achieve this but these parameters account for only 40% ; but the rest comes from various other achievements such as participation in varied competitions of IEEE/ASME/ASCE and many other associations through mini projects, paper presentations, leadership role in organizing events, involvement in all college activities at different levels, giving 100% in whatever you do and in the end, professional excellence in all endeavors that you undertake. But she cautioned that these achievements are not only for higher studies but in every venture that one undertakes, be it placements, becoming an entrepreneur or in academics what counts in the long run is the professional value that you add to your profile.

Interactive Workshop during AEROPHILIA 2016

Mr. Aravindh and Mr Chinmay, Engineers for Light Combat Aircraft, LCA-Tejas Program at Aeronautical Development Agency and guests of honour for Aerophilia 2016, took a session on ‘Interactive Workshop on Product Design and Systems Engineering’ for first year students. Students were given a fun oriented session on design, ideate, prototype and testing where they had to detect a problem and come up with a technical solution. They also focused on various factors to be considered while designing a product and gave a brief picture on system engineering domain. The session gave students a clear picture on how to approach the practical implementation of a solution.

VGST project successfully demonstrated during DySP training

Dr. Ananth Prabhu, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering conducted training on "Intelligent Cyber Crime Technologies" for new batch of DySP officers at Karnataka Police Academy, Mysore. After the training the newly joined DySP officers were given live demonstration of the VGST project "Development of New Technology for Identification of Criminals across Age Groups And Age Progression Using Composite Sketches". All the DySP officers highly appreciated the research work of Sahyadri and they promised to validate this project for identifying criminals at their respective stations. This VGST project was developed by Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering along with B.E and M.Tech. students of SCEM.

Student members of Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell attend workshop

The student members of the Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell visited IIM- Bangalore to attend the workshop on "Software as a Service" (SaaS). The workshop included keynote speeches from 4 founders of startups with valuations between 50-100 million USD with SaaS at the core of their business model.

Karthik Ramakrishnan and Aman Agarwal of Whattabiz, P.Sanjay, Kaushal Jogi and Satyajeeth Prabhu of Samaroham Creations and Naresh Bhat and Rajan K of HostZyro attended the half day workshop which proved to be an inspiration for them, as well as a platform for them to network and exhibit their services.

They also visited the well renowned incubation center of IIM Bangalore, NSRCEL and interacted with Mr. Aakarsh Naidu, the coordinator and all the startups being incubated in the campus to understand the do’s and dont's for any startup susceptible to heavy competition in a metropolitan environment like Bengaluru.

Sahyadri Team Visit Toyota Kirloskar Motor

Dr. S. Manjappa, Director (R&D, Consultancy), Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, along with Mr. Rakshith Shetty and Mr. Ramakrishna Devananda, Assistant Professors, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mr. Praveen Kumar M., Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, visited Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Ltd. and Toyota Technical Training Institute located at Bidadi Ramnagar, Bangalore.

The team visited Toyota Technical Training Institute where Mr. Gopinath Rao S. K., DGM, TTTI and Mr, Baskar Pai, DM, TTTI, gave a detailed briefing and tour of TTTI. TTTI is one-of-its-kind initiative by Toyota which incorporates the Japanese training and Kaizen learning principles to train students to make them the best of the best in the industry.

Later, the team was taken around the assembly plant by Mr. Srinivas, Manager EHS department. In the assembly plant they were shown the innovative Inventory Management System developed by Toyota and energy efficient 4-point assembly line where production of prime Toyota cars like Corolla, Etios, Innova, Camry, Hybrid, etc. takes place.

The tour concluded with a visit to the Waste Water Treatment System. The team also explored and discussed the possibilities of setting up of a Toyota Incubation Center at Sahyadri and internship and placement opportunities for our students. Canara Bank Branch Manager Bid Farewell

Mrs Usha M Shetty, Branch Manager, Canara Bank, Sahyadri Campus Branch, has been promoted and transferred to their A J Hospital Campus Branch. She was honored with a bouquet of flowers and a memento by Prof B S Umashankar, Dean Academic, Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice Principal and Mr. Manjaya Shetty, Administrator, Bhandary Foundation, who wished her good luck in her new assignment. Sahyadrians appreciated the services rendered by the branch during her tenure.

Students and faculty attend `Happiness Conclave’

Mr. Ramesh K G and Mr Girish M, Assistant Professors, Department of Business Administration, along with eight students attended the 'Happiness Conclave' organised by HR Katha at Taj Vivantha, Bangalore. The main theme of the conference was `Connecting Happiness to Business Strategy’.

The conclave had five technical sessions and three case studies on various HR practices to keep the employees engaged with the organisation. Some of the key speakers of the conclave were Mr. Raj Raghavan, Director, Country HR Leader, Amazon-India, Mr. Jayesh Pandey, MD, Accenture, Mr. Balachadar, Director, Cafe Coffee Day, Mr. Emmanuel David, Director, TATA Management Training Centre, Mr. Ravishankar B, CHRO, HCL Talent Care and Ms. Shalini Pillay, Head, People, Performance & Culture, KPMG.

The students had the opportunity to work as volunteers during the conclave and were responsible for registration of the participants and handling the key speakers of the event. Research Collaboration with University of Houston, USA


Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor and Mr. Mohammad Anwar, semester VIII, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering would be working along with Professor Hong Lin, University of Houston, USA on a Research project entitled "Camera Surveillance System to detect unattended babies in a vehicle". Col Prashant Petkar, Director, Army Recruiting Office briefs students on recruitment to Indian Army

Col Prashant Petkar, Director, Army Recruiting Office, visited the campus and oriented the second year B.E. students on the recruitment to the Indian Army. He briefed the students regarding the upcoming UES - University Entry Scheme for which students are eligible to apply, the screening tests and the selection process from Command HQ.

Sahyadri Research Team Visits CMTI

Prof. Dr. Richard Pinto, Director-CENT, Dr. Poornesh KK, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, John Nikhil Poyyayial and Shrajan Bhandary, Dtlabz, Sahyadri Edu DREAMERS R&D Pvt. Ltd, Mangalore, visited Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bangalore.

The team from Sahyadri interacted with Dr. S. Usha, Joint Director, Dr. V.A.P Sarma, Scientist E, AEAMT and Dr. Prakash Vinod, Scientist E & In-Charge, Nano Manufacturing Technology Center (NMTC). The team spent more than two hours visiting NMTC and various technology development works going on there. The main purpose of the visit was to explore possible R & D collaboration between Sahyadri and CMTI. Dr. Usha and her team were very eager to collaborate with us in areas of mutual interest. They also agreed to carry out analysis of our samples at their facility at a nominal cost.

CMTI is a research & development organization focusing on providing 'Technology Solutions' to the manufacturing sector and assisting technological growth in the country. CMTI plays a key role in applied research, design and development, technology forecasting, assimilation and dissemination of manufacturing technology to Indian industries.
