Grand Finale of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) 2017
SSTH 2017, the annual event was held in Sahyadri Campus in the august presence of Prof. S N Omkar, Chief Research Scientist, Dept. of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, Prof. Vijay H Desai, Senior Professor, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Suratkal, Mr. M V Subramanian, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Future Focus Infotech Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Basanagouda M Patil, Director, BLDE Association, Columnist & Writer, Deccan Herald & The Indian Express, President, MPATIL Foundation & Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.
During the introductory remarks, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation cascaded that the reason to conduct SSTH is to generate interest about science & technology among budding talents. He emphasized on how SSTH helps to shift from studying engineering to learning engineering and finally living engineering.
Prof. S N Omkar, while addressing the gathering expressed his happiness to be at the event and the initiative of Sahyadri to collect talent pools & ignite their minds. He also said – in the current scenario we have ideas & concepts, however fail to take it to the consumers. He stimulated students to take their labs to life. He referred to the discoveries of renowned scientists & conveyed that the greatest inventions happened through simple experiments and not through major funding. Mr. Vijay H Desai in his speech expressed his delight towards the exhibits of the day’s event. He urged students to take up their career on their area of interest and not through influencers. Mr. M V Subramanian congratulated the participants of SSTH as they are half engineers already due to their interest in projects & models. Once they pursue their course they shall be complete engineers & not mere graduates.
The day-long event witnessed students showcasing their talent in project & model competition. They had the opportunity to interact with the guests individually as well as through the panel discussion. The panelists for the day were overwhelmed by the event and congratulated Sahyadri for hosting the unique programme. The curtains of SSTH 2017 came down with the awarding of prizes to the winners.
Inauguration of Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt. Ltd
In-line with Sahyadri’s vision of “Upskilling Engineers” & encouraging “Start-Ups”, Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd is set-up specifically for Mechanical Engineering Sector. Sahyadri becomes the FIRST campus in India with integrated high tech manufacturing facility.
Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt. Ltd, a Centre for Mechanical Engineering Start-Ups & Incubators was inaugurated at Sahyadri in the presence of Mr. Shreenadha Reddy Nayani, Chairman & Managing Director of Sai Srushti Group (SSG), Mr. M V Subramanian, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Future Focus Infotech Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Vasanth Shetty, Assistant General Manager is heading Canara Bank, Mangalore Circle, Mr. K Balakrishna Bhandary, Chairman, SAMS Techno Mech Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai & Trustee, Bhandary Foundation, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Mr. S M Sunder, CEO, Caliper and Ms. Prasanna Bhandary, Director, Caliper.
Shri. Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi, Minister of State for Drinking Water & Sanitation visits Sahyadri
Shri. Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi, Minister of State for Drinking Water & Sanitation visited the campus. During the visit he interacted with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary and was taken round the campus to view the various student-centric initiatives introduced by the institution. He appreciated the encouragement given to the students to nurture their talents, innovative ideas and the progress of institute in a span of just ten years. He congratulated Sahyadri Management Team and all the members of Sahyadri family who have constantly served for the growth of the institute. He wished great success to the institute.
Shri. Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi, Union Minister for Drinking Water & Sanitation, New Delhi during his visit to Sahyadri inaugurated the Calling Bell with Swachtha tone.
This is an initiative by Dr. M R Ravi, CEO, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath towards cleanliness, thereby creating awareness among the general public by way of calling bell. This unique concept was presented by Dr. M R Ravi to the Sahyadri Management, in the presence of Faculty members and the Start up Team during his visit to Sahyadri earlier. As a response to the concept, a team of experts from the institute converted the concept into an end product by designing a calling bell with Swachtha tone imbibed in it. These calling bells have already been installed and are in use at the Dakshin Kannada Zilla Panchayath office. As a part of the Pilot programme, Sahyadri has expressed its willingness to partially sponsor for the cause in making of such calling bells.
Shri. Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi was inducted into Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's government as a Minister of State for Drinking Water & Sanitation in the year 2016. He is the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) representing the Bijapur Constituency.
Sahyadrians participate & win in “Technozion 2017” at NIT Warangal
A team of 18 students from first year I section participated in “Technozion 2017” held at NIT Warangal in 4 events namely NRC (line follower), Arm rover, Hover mania & Jahaaz.
NRC was an event in which the robot had to follow the black line within short time in which the team won 2nd prize.
Arm rover was another event in which the bot had to carry the balls which were placed in a height and drop it in a given place within a certain period of time in which the team won 4th place. Hover mania was an event in which the bot had to travel in both water & ground in which the team won 3rd place and finally the team was on the top eighth position in the event named Jahaaz.
Sinchana 2017
Department of Art & Culture organized “Sinchana 2017” – Sprinkle of Talents, A Cultural Extravaganza as a part of Kannada Rajyotsava Celebration in Sahyadri Campus. Dr. Narasimha Murthy, Retired Associate Professor of Kannada, Mangaluru & Mr. Jagannath Chowta, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation were the guests for the Inaugural Ceremony.
Dr. Narasimha Murthy inaugurated the programme by beating drums. Addressing the audience he said – It is often taken for granted that we live in Kannada Nadu & only express our gratitude to the state on November 1st each year. This day in the year 1956 is considered to be one of the greatest days for the dwellers of Karnataka as our state emerged with 19 districts in it. He referred to the great kannada poets and their contribution in the field of literature and urged all of us to be proud of it. He said Kannada language has greater sense of logic since writing and pronouncing the words are similar. He concluded by saying Let us Grow Kannada and Love Kannada. One contribution is much better than 1,000 words, meaning one contribution to Kannada and the state is better than just expressing in words. Mr. Jagannath Chowta in his presidential address expressed that it is unfortunate to see that we make an effort to know our mother tongue only when we fill the application forms to take admission in college. A mother decides the mother tongue of a child and her contribution is immense hence we refer to our nation and our state as mother. He shared an anecdote that brought out the importance of mother tongue for a child. He urged the students to retain the tradition and culture of Karnataka.
Various competitions like solo and group classical, filmy and western songs, solo and group classical and non classical dance, Sketching, Face painting, Photography, Variety and other competitions were conducted at various venues of Sahyadri.
Sahyadri, the Overall Champions at the 20th VTU Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet 2017-18
In the 20th VTU Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet 2017-18 held at VTU, Belagavi during 3rd to 6th Nov’17, Sahyadri wins the Overall Championship. For the last consecutive 6 years Sahyadri has been the Overall Champions.
Dr. Steven L. Fernandes felicitated by prestigious Society for Design and Process Science Award 2017, USA
Dr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, currently pursuing his Post-Doctoral Research at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alabama Birmingham, USA was felicitated by prestigious Society for Design and Process Science Award 2017, USA on November 8, 2017 for his outstanding service contribution.
Society for Design and Process Science aims to provide a stimulating and interactive environment for scholars, industrialists and practitioners from different international communities spanning five different continents. It promotes transformative and transdisciplinary research and it engages in active exchanges of research ideas and work results involving many industries, governing bodies, educational and research institutes. Dr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, also received first prize in Doctoral Symposium organized by Society for Design and Process Science 2017. He has dedicated this award to all his dear students at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

 • SLK Software pvt Ltd., visited Sahyadri to conduct pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 batch. 39 Students got selected from pool.
• Ravi Yadav from the Department of Information Science has been selected by SAP Labs India with a package of 10 LPA in the recently held Campus Recruitment Drive for the 2018 Engineering batch.

• Tayana Software Solutions visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 batch. 15 Sahyadrians have been short listed.
• Advanced Computer Software Group Limited visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 batch. 5 Sahyadrians have been selected.
• 3 from the Department of Information Science, 3 from the Department of Computer Science & 3 from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering were selected by Mphasis in the recently held Campus recruitment drive for the 2018 batch of Engineering students.
• Semnox Solutions Pvt Ltd visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 batch. Ajay Amanna from the Department of Computer Science was recruited by Semnox.
• HostZyro visited Sahyadri to conduct Exclusive Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 batch. It's a start-up by Mr. Naresh Bhat (2017 Batch of Civil Engineering). 7 from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, 1 from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and 1 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering were recruited by Host Zyro
• 12 students of Department of Business Administration were selected by KPMG-GDC in the recently conducted drive in Sahyadri Campus.
• 2 from the Department of Computer Science, 2 from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering & 1 from the Department of Information Science were selected by Novigo Solutions in the recently held Campus recruitment drive for the 2018 batch of Engineering students.
• HDFC Bank conducted pool campus recruitment drive for MBA students in Sahyadri Campus.
• Seventh Sense Talent Solutions visited Sahyadri to conduct the Campus Recruitment drive for the engineering students of 2018 batch. 186 Sahyadrians participated in the drive.
• Kambala Solutions visited Sahyadri to conduct Pool Campus Recruitment drive for the 2018 batch. 148 students participated in the drive. 1 Sahyadrian got selected.
• Sneha V Kamath, from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has been selected by Accord in the recently held Campus Recruitment Pool Drive for the 2018 Engineering batch.
