The College Pays Homage to the Father of the Nation

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi the College paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi the father of the nation. The Principal, the Dean Academics, the HODs, the staff and the students showered flowers on the image of Gandhiji in remembrance of his birthday.

Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell and Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt Ltd Inaugurated

The inaugural of the Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell and Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Ram Mohan Pai, Director, Maroor Group. The Guests of Honour were Dr. Prasad T, Advisor, Centre of Student Enterprise, NITIE, and Mr. Aakarsh Naidu, NSRCEL, IIM, Bangalore. The unveiling ceremony of the Sahyadri Entrepreneurship Cell and Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. brochure was made by the Chief Guest Mr. Ram Mohan Pai. Mr. Sachin Ganesh, CEO, Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Ajay Bhatkal, Business Consultant & Advisor to the CEO, Sheorey Digital Systems were present on the occasion along with Mr. Johnson Tellis, Director, Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd.

A two-day workshop on Entrepreneurship was held where resource persons from the management stream gave their input to the students on startups.

The Second Phase of Swacch Mangaluru by Ramakrishna Mission

The second phase of Swacch Mangaluru by Ramakrishna Mission was inaugurated by Swami Muktidanandaji, Trustee, Ramakrishna Math & Mission & Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysore, in a function held at Mahatma Gandhi Vedike, Karangalpady.

Sri Kumar H, Managing Director, MRPL, flagged off the 21st cleanliness drive. Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi, president, Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama, Tumakuru, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Mangalore, Manjunath Bhandari, chairman, Sahyadri Group of Institutions, Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, Prakash Salian, Premananda Shetty and other eminent dignitaries were present on the occasion.

On this occasion, Dilraj Alva submitted the 20 weeks’ Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan report and video presentation of the 20 weeks’ drives to MRPL.

The auto stand at Karangalpady was also renovated, cleaned and beautified with a new roof and stand of corrugated sheets. It has also boards containing the messages of awareness on Swacch Mangaluru. This renovated auto stand was inaugurated by Sri Kumar H, MD, MRPL. Around 145 students and 13 faculty members attended the program.

Dr. B. L. Shankar Visits Sahyadri

Dr. B. L. Shankar addressed the first year MBA students on the topic ‘Parliamentary systems and challenges’. He stated that India is diversified with a number of castes, religions, languages, states and villages. The Indian economy is the youngest economy in the world with 65% of the people falling under the age group of 18-45 years. He emphasized that India has a unique and the longest written constitution which has taken the strengths from USA, UK and other constitutions. India has seen progress of economy through industrial development, increased literacy rate, opportunities, technological advancements and educational institutions. He also highlighted the decentralization of powers to villagers in the form of Panchayats to encourage people’s participation in the democracy. In his suggestions to improve the Parliamentary system in India, he stated that voting should be made compulsory and the educated class of people should cast their vote, there should be a fixed term for assembly and fixed term for premium positions like the Chief Minister, Prime Minister, President and Vice President.

MRPL – Sahyadri Interprofessional Collegiate Debate Competition 2015

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management held an Interprofessional Collegiate Debate Competition - 2015, `Corruption in India-A Cause of Instability and Poverty’ in the Sahyadri Campus. Students of engineering, medicine, dental and management disciplines from nineteen professional colleges in Mangaluru and the Udupi region participated in the Debate Competition.

Mr. H.V. Manjunatha, Manager (Vigilance), MRPL welcomed the gathering.

The Chief Guest Sri.Y. Ravindranath ITS, Chief Vigilance Officer, MRPL, in his inaugural address spoke on corruption and the effects of corruption. He thanked Sahyadri and the Central Vigilance Council for organizing the debate competition.

The Guest of Honour Sri P. G. Ramakrishna, General Manager (Vigilance) MRPL Mangaluru stated that Corruption is not a new word to the people for it is decades old. He urged the young minds to take initiatives to fight against corruption.

Dr, Umesh. M.Bhushi, Principal in his presidential address stated that at the end of the debate session, the participants and the audience must have some take away to ponder on. The Chief Guest Sri.Y Ravindranath, ITS Chief Vigilance Officer, MRPL, Mangaluru addressed the gathering at the valedictory function. He spoke on how MRPL works on reducing corruption by focusing on preventive vigilance.

The Guest of Honour Sri P. G. Ramakrishna, General Manager (Vigilance) MRPL, Mangaluru, appreciated a healthy debate competition among the participants and wished the students all the very best .

Dr. Malini N Hebbar, Assistant Professor, St Agnes College stated that she was impressed by the way participants shared their opinions and the quality of debating. Dr. Kusum D’Sa, Principal, The Cambridge International School, gave some guidelines that have to be kept in mind at the time of debating. Mrs. Samina Nayak, a Distinguished Toastmaster, appreciated the participants on their excellent debating skills and suggested how they could improve upon further.

Dr. U.M.Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management delivered the presidential address.

Mr. H.V. Manjunath, Manager, Vigilance MRPL, thanked the Chairman, Principal, the entire MRPL team, and the management of Sahyadri for making this event a success.

Sri Y. Ravindranath and Sri P. G. Ramakrishna gave away the cash prizes and the certificates. The first prize was bagged by Ms. Pallak Razdan and Mr. Saahil Khandewal of Manipal College Dental Sciences, Mangaluru, the second prize by Mr. Akshay Subramanian and Mr.Vishnu M. B. of A. J. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mangaluru and the third prize by Mr. Chris D’ Souza and Mr. Ankit K. R., St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru. The Best Debater was given to Mr. Karthik Ramakrishnan of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. The event was co-ordinated by Mr. H. V. Manjunatha, Manager (Vigilance) MRPL and Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, HOD, Training, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

A Slew of Recruitment Drives held during the month

Thirty-nine students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management were the highest selected candidates by Infosys Ltd. out of a total of ninety-three candidates of pool colleges recruited by the company. Mr. Pramod M V, Lead - Talent Acquisition of Infosys Ltd. accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

Twenty-three students of the College are selected by Tech Mahindra in the exclusive recruitment drive conducted at the campus. Mr. N. G. Raju of the Resource Management Group of Tech Mahindra accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

Sixty-two students from pool colleges have been recruited by UST Global out of which thirty two are sahyadrians. Ms. Rekha Mathews, Head- India Campus Relationships, UST Global accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

Shourie from Computer Science Engineering and Nagesha from Electronics & Communication Engineering are selected by iWave Systems Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in the exclusive recruitment drive conducted at the campus.

Ltd. in the campus recruitment drive. Further, seventeen MBA students (Marketing Specialization) participated in this drive out of which twelve are shortlisted for internship.

Mohammed Arshad and Mohammed Rafeeq Iqbal students of the 2015 passed out batch of the department of Mechanical Engineering have been recruited by Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS) in the campus recruitment drive held by the company.

Twenty-one students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management are shortlisted by ITC Infotech for the final round of interview in the exclusive drive conducted at the campus. Ms. Aparna Ritwik of the Human Resource Team of ITC Infotech accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process.

Dilip Kumar, postgraduate M. Tech. (VLSI & Embedded System) student of the 2015 batch of passed out students has been recruited by CIPSA TEC India Pvt. Ltd.

Five students have been shortlisted by Reliance JIO in the pool campus recruitment drive conducted at the campus for the 2015 passed out batch of students.

Twenty-three students from pool colleges have been shortlisted by Mphasis in the pooled campus recruitment drive held by the company. Around 430 students of Engineering and MCA passing out in the year 2016 took part in the drive.

Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2015 Competitions

Riding on the success of the 2014 Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH), this year too, the college has launched the SSTH-2015 competitions. Competitions at the PU college level as well as the zonal level have begun with the first PU level competitions being held at Sai Angels Pre-University College, Chikmagalur. The competition received an overwhelming response with close to 220 students participating in different events.

Subsequently, the first Zonal level competitions were held at Karkala Jnanasudha Pre-University College, Karkala where Forty-four students of Jnanasudha Pre-University College actively participated. Projects were judged by eminent teachers of science. The grand finale will be held in the Sahyadri campus on the 14th of November 2015.

The main objective of this programme is to provide a platform for exhibiting new ideas and the creative work of young talent of PU/+2 colleges. The SSTH is an annual event in which eminent national and international scientists interact with young students and teachers to motivate them to take up the study of science.

Sahyadri MCA students bagged the Best Poster Award in the two-day International Conference organized by St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), Beeri, Mangalore. Two teams participated in the poster and paper presentation. The paper presentation also received good appreciation from the delegates present at the conference. Bisharath Abdul Khader, Ashiq P M, Bhavithraj, Raghavendra U Karunakar, Vinaya J Rai, Sachin Bharadwaj, Prashal I S and Vidyalakshmi formed the team that won the award.

VTU Inter-Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throw ball Tournament Held in the Campus

The VTU Inter-Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throw ball Tournament hosted by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was inaugurated by the chief guest, Ms. Keerthi Nairy, the young international throw ball player. In her inaugural speech to the gathering, she said that sports and studies are both important for an individual and now it is the time for youngsters when they are young to achieve in life and that every person must have an aim in life. She wished the players good luck in the tournament. The chief guest inaugurated the court by serving the first service of the game.

Eight teams from various colleges participated in the tournament. The final match was played between St. Joseph Engineering College and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management with St. Joseph Engineering College emerging as winners in a nail-biting finish - (27-26) the first set was won by Sahyadri and St. Joseph Engineering College won the second set (20-25). The deciding set was won by St. Joseph Engineering College (13-15). Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management bagged the Runner-up trophy.

Ms. Ashmitha J. Rodrigues of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore was awarded as the Best Thrower, Ms. Akshatha as Best Receiver and Ms. Anusha as Best All Rounder - both of St. Joseph Engineering College. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal distributed the prizes.

Deliberation on PRAJNA 2015

Deliberation on PRAJNA 2015 Symposium was organized in the campus for the faculty members. Swami Jitakamanandaji Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math and Swami Veereshananda Saraswati President, Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama, Tumkur were present on the occasion.

Explaining the importance of ethics in the present day education system, Swami Veereshananda Saraswati stated that the teacher is the real architect of the institution so teachers should join this profession by choice and not by chance and teachers should not deny knowledge to the student and should be ready to learn from the students. Stating the importance of time and common sense he said that time is inelastic, cannot be replaced and common sense is not common to all, common sense is very much needed to everyone and not just book knowledge. He admired the Sahyadri campus and stated that it looks like the ancient Gurukula.

Swami Jitakamanandaji explained the shraddha, Medha and the Prajna theme of the Symposium held in the Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore on 11th September 2015. He showed the difference between Apara and Para, Apara means external skills and Para means Internal Education and Personality. He also explained the drawbacks of the present day education system. A few of the faculty members who attended the Prajna 2015 Symposium shared with the audience the gist of the talks delivered by the eminent speakers of that day.

Seminar on Swacch Bharath

Following the Swacch Mangaluru programme, a Swacch Bharath seminar on the theme, “Cleanliness: Internal & External” was inaugurated by Swami Muktidanandaji, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Ashram, Mysore. Sri Kumar H, Managing Director, MRPL, Mangalore, was the chief Guest. Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi, Prof Nandan Prabhu & Prof Raghotham Rao interacted with the delegates on various dimensions of Swacch Bharath. Around 60 students were present for this program.

Best B-School Survey 2015 by Week Magazine

In the Best B-School Survey 2015 conducted by Week Magazine, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has been ranked 138 at the All India level (both government & private colleges), 117 at the All India (private colleges only) and 49 in the south India (private colleges).

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director - Research & Consultancy, has been selected as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee for Karnataka Pollution Control Board for the year 2015-16.

Mahindra Auto Quotient Season 7 Conducted at Sahyadri

Mahindra Auto Quotient Team conducted the AQ Round in the Campus. 300 students participated in this auto quiz. A team of two members, Mr Ajaygan K and Mr Harsharaj K from Mechanical Engineering have made it to the next level to be held at Bangalore.

Team HAWK Will Represent Sahyadri at SAE Aero Design Event in the USA

Team HAWK, the Aero Design team of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management are Westward bound to Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Mohammad Anwar (Team Captain), Probid J Panikkan (E&C), Amritha khandare (E&C), Tharanath (Mech), Midhun Jyothis (Civil), Rajgokul (E&C), Nithin (CS), Gouse Khan (IS), and Gerald (E&C) have been selected to participate in this year’s SAE Aero Design event which will be held in Fort Worth, Texas, USA from March 11-13, 2016. The team successfully registered and has received confirmation of their participation. The team advisers are Dr Tenzin Pasang and Dr Rathishchandra Gatti, professors of the college.

Against All Odds

Ms. Josny Jesma Tellis, a talented young individual from Shivamogga has been sponsored by Sahyadri College Corpus Fund to pursue here dreams to become a doctor. She is differently abled and scored 85% in her Pre-University examination and through timely assistance from Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Chairman, who generously handed over a cheque to her, joined the MBBS course. Now a year later, this admirable young woman has again secured a first class in her MBBS examination from SIMS, Shivamogga. This year too, in a touching gesture, the Chairman has generously handed over a cheque through the Sahyadri Corpus Fund to continue her education. The young woman is all smiles and vows to do great things, thanks to the generous contributions from her well-wishers.

The focal point of the Sahyadri College Corpus Fund is to extend support to the deserving students coming from the economically backward sections and assist them in education and research whereby significant contributions are made by students in their own spheres apart from their dedication to the cause of nation building.

Sahyadrians Win First Prize in National Level IT Quiz

Abhishek K. and Sriharsha Bhat, Semester VII, Computer Science & Engineering, won the First prize in the National Level IT Quiz at the IT Fest Joshiana 6.0 held at St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru.

Sahyadrian Wins First Place in Engineer’15 Gaming Event

Kaushik Raj, Semester VII, Department of Mechanical Engg. participated in “DOTA 2” a gaming event during Engineer’ 15; the annual Technical Symposium of National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal and won the First place with a cash prize of Rs. 2500/-.

Sahyadrians Win in VTU Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Competition

Mr. Sushanth S. Bolar, Semester VII, Mechanical Engineering secured the Second place (up to the 61 kg category) and Mr. Jerin D. Varghese also from the Mechanical stream secured the Third place (up to 81 kg category) in the VTU Inter- Collegiate Wrestling Competition held at MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore.

Sahyadrians Winners in Weight Lifting Championship

Vikyath of first year MBA secured the Second place in up to 105 senior category and the Third place in up to 105 Junior category and Deekshith of second year M.Tech. won the Second place in the 105 junior category Weight Lifting Championship. The State Junior & Senior Weight Lifting Championship-2015 was conducted by the Karnataka State Weightlifters association for men and women at Alva’s, Moodabidri.

Sinchana - 2015 held in the Campus

The Department of Art and culture conducted a cultural fest ‘Sinchana-2015’ in the Campus. The fest held yearly, is a platform for students to exhibit their innate talents.

Sinchana - 2015 saw the undergraduate and postgraduate students showcase their talents in a cultural extravaganza. Students gave a scintillating performance and the audience consisting of the staff, the parents and the students were awed at the performance of the participants.

Student won prizes in competitive events like Classical Dance (Solo), Classical Singing (Solo), Dance- Eastern/ Western (Solo), Western Singing (Solo), Singing (Group), Filmy Eastern Singing (Solo), Group Dance (Eastern/ Western), Photography and Poster- Making.
