Mr. Rajkiran Rai G, Managing Director and CEO of Union Bank of India, was at the campus to address the 1st year MBA students on 12th Oct’19. Prior to his elevation as Managing Director & CEO, he was the Executive Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce. Mr. Rajkiran Rai G is a graduate in Agricultural Science and also a Certified member of Indian Institute of Bankers. He has more than three decades of rich banking experience including heading Industrial Finance Branch, Regions and Zonal Offices. He started his career as an Agricultural Finance Officer in Central Bank of India. He was also serving on the Board of Canara, HSBC, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Life Insurance Co. Ltd.

Chairman urged the students to keenly observe the personality of Mr. Rajkiran and then the position he holds. He acknowledged that Mr. Rai is one of the very few contemporaries of his who achieved the goal as planned with utmost Clarity, Dedication and Commitment. He said Mr. Rai is a perfect example of attaining success in multi-disciplinary field - Education in Agricultural Science and Excellence in Banking Sector. He referred to Mr. Rai as a custodian of crores of money belonging to people. In an interactive session, Mr. Rajkiran Rai G expressed how happy he was to address the Young India who is closer to being a CEO as they are MBAs. He answered queries of the students giving powerful messages for them to inculcate during the course of MBA studies.

VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throwball Tournament organised at Sahyadri VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone women’s Throw ball Tournament was organized on 3rd October, 2019 at Sahyadri. Mr. Devdas Hegde Trustee Bhandary Foundation was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, Prof. Balakrishna S.S, Vice Principal Prof Ramesh K.G. Dean Strategic were present in the event. Cutting the ribbon and serving the ball marked inauguration of the event.

Total of 12 teams from various colleges throughout Mangalore participated in this tournament. Final match was between Sahyadri & SDMIT, Ujire. SDMIT won the Mangalore zone Inter collegiate Throwball tournament. During the valedictory ceremony, Ms. Aishwarya, student from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore was awarded as Best Thrower, Ms. Suchira student from St. Joseph Engineering College was awarded as Best Receiver & Ms. Lekha from SDMIT, Ujire was awarded as Best All Rounder. SDMIT, Ujire emerged as the Winners of the tournament, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management bagged the Runners Up Trophy, St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor won 3rd place & NMAMIT, Nitte 4th place. Principal Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Prof Ramesh K.G. Dean Strategic & Mr. Sadanand H.S. gave away the prizes to the Winners & handed over the mementos to the Officials.

On 2nd Oct’19, NSS unit of Sahyadri celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi and Shastri Ji's Birthday and organized ‘Swacch Sahyadri’ as a part of the event.

The speakers for the formal programme were Prof. Gurusiddah, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Prof. Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Dept. of Civil Engineering. The programme started with a Bhajan- ‘Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram’. The dignitaries offered flowers to the portrait of Gandhiji and Shastriji. Prof. Gurusiddah, while addressing the gathering, remembered his childhood days and shared some of the memorable instances and concluded his talk with a quote of Gandhiji – “Where there is Love, there is Life”.
Prof. Dr. Premanand Shenoy, Dept. of Civil Engineering, shared his thoughts on the life story of Gandhiji and Shastriji. He also reminded young minds of the power of non-violence. He concluded his talk by remembering the contribution of farmers. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal felicitated the programme. Ms. Shreelatha U A, AAO, concluded the programme by appreciating the efforts of NSS unit and expressed her words of gratitude.

Chairman’s visit to National Institute of Technology, Goa and interaction with the DirectorMr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman-Bhandary Foundation visited the National Institute of Technology, Goa and had an interaction with Dr. Gopal Mugeraya, Director of National Institute of Technology, Goa on 4th Oct’19.
Dr. Gopal Mugeraya has served at NITK, Agartala and NITK, Surathkal in various eminent positions before joining NIT, Goa. He has obtained Ph.D frm IISc, Bengaluru. He has coordinated more than 35 industry-oriented projects at PG level and has guided 9 Ph.D’s in the area of Industrial Pollution Control and Solid Waste Management.

His Achievements are:
• Received “Hindustan Door-Oliver National Award-2000” by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers
• Received “World Environment Day-Parisara award 2001” by Govt. of Karnataka.
• Awarded “Biotechnology Overseas Associate ship Award 2004” by DBT, Govt. of India and undergone advance training at Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Riverside, USA in the area of Biosensors and Bioremediation.
• Deputed to “Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok (AIT)” by Govt. of India in year 2003 as Visiting Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering (SERD).
• Life member ISTE, IIChE, IAEM, ECSI and Biosensors and Bioremediation Society of India.

He was also involved with NBA of AICTE as an accreditation expert member for more than fifty Institutions all over India for the last ten years. He is the Chairman of Technical Advisory Committee of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and a well wisher of Sahyadri since those days while he was serving at National Institute of Technology, Surathkal.

During interaction, Dr. Gopal appreciated the approaches taken by Sahyadri towards Industry-Academia interface and assured of his association with Sahyadri through Dr. Manjappa S, Director-Research towards overall development of the institution.

Mentor-Mentee System at Sahyadri  Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman-Bhandary Foundation visited BITS Pilani, Goa and had an interaction with Dr. G Raghurama, Director- BITS Pilani, Goa on 5th Oct’19.

Prof. Raghurama joined BITS, Pilani in 1987. He obtained his M.Sc. from IIT Madras, and his Ph.D in Physics from IISc Bangalore.

His achievements are:
• Received Research grant from Nokia in 2000, the Faculty Champion Award from Microsoft in 2007, and has been recognized and felicitated by SkillTree Knowledge Consortium with the title 'SkillTree Education Evangelist of India 2014'
• Member of the Technical Advisory Board of Cradle Technologies, Pune in its initial years.
• Between 2010 and 2012, Prof. Raghurama also led the redesign and rollout of an improved Performance Appraisal System.
• During his Directorship of the Pilani Campus, he successfully led the Vision 2020-Mission 2012 Project, provided leadership to Project Parivartan from concept through completion of major milestones: the signature and iconic NAB (New Academic Building), the New Faculty Housing Complex, the New Student Housing Complex, and the Renovation and Augmentation of Ram Bhawan.
• Prior to his appointment as Director of the Pilani Campus, he was Deputy Director (Academic). He has served as Dean of Admissions and Dean of Faculty Division-II. As Dean (Admissions) he led the team in the design and implementation of the pioneering computer based online test BITSAT, which till today remains a benchmark for standardized, fully computerized admission tests in India.
His origin is from Dakshina Kannada, a place named Panaje in Puttur. During interaction, Dr. Raghuram appreciated the student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri and assured his cooperation and guidance for the overall development of the Institute. He also assured to visit Sahyadri and interact with Students & faculty.

Mentor-Mentee System at Sahyadri  Prof. Prasanna Kumar, Associate Professor, Mathematics Department, BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa Campus, is originally from Mangaluru. He introduced Chairman to the infrastructure of his institution.

Mr. Ashwin Shetty, Manager, NAIN Incubation Centre, facilitated their visit.

The guests interacted with the Chairman and with the Principal. They also interacted with Mr. Prashanth Duddela They visited the various innovative labs, in-house start-ups and student-centric initiatives of Sahyadri. They also assessed NAIN projects and were happy with the projects presented by students at NAIN centre.

At the end of their visit, they had nothing but deep admiration for the campus and lauded the chairman on his excellent commitment in building an institute of such a magnitude.

The Sahyadri Management Students Association (SMSA) for the Academic year 2019-20 was inaugurated by Mr. Darshan Jain, Partner-Ace Promoters & Developers as the Chief Guest; Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal and Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA on 4th Oct’19.

Mr. Darshan during his inaugural address reminded the council members of the moral and social responsibility they have as members of the council towards the society in which they operate. He appreciated Sahyadri for making such a forum available to the students wherein they start grooming themselves as leaders. He said – As leaders it is very important to treat their subordinates with great concern and respect. The office bearers were lead through oath taking by Prof. Samarth Shenoy. Mr. Bhagwandas, President of SMSA shared the Plan of Action of the Academic Year 2019-20.

Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA, Prof. Samarth Shenoy and Prof. Sushma V from the Dept. of Business Administration-MBA attended PRAXIS8 held in Grand Hyatt, Goa during 27th to 29th Sep’19. This is an annual event which hosts more than 700 Public Relations Practitioners especially at Managerial Levels including the CEO’s and VP’s. Faculty had an opportunity to interact with the professionals and invite them to the campus in order to strengthen Industry-Academia interface.

The two-day event included Speeches of Inspiration, Power Talks, Power Panel by Globally renowned Experts and Felicitations for the PR Practitioners and PR firms.

Inauguration of Student Council for the Academic Year 2019-20 Sahyadri Student Council for the Academic Year 2019-20 was inaugurated on 12th October 2019 by Mr. Abhinandan Shetty, Former District Governor, Rotary International who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The inaugural commenced with the opening remarks by Chairman, Mr.Manjunath Bhandary who spoke on the importance, roles and relevance of student council and that their involvement in the council can improve their leadership skills. The Chief Guest then inaugurated the student council by watering the plant. This was followed by the distribution of sache and rose to the heads of council as a symbolic gesture of initiation. Our Principal, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte lead the council members through oath.

With the prime objective of encouraging International Internships for students, Sahyadri has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AIESEC INDIA providing a global platform for young people to explore and develop leadership potential. The MoU formalizes the mutual interaction and strengthens the relationship between Sahyadri and AIESEC by providing students with the opportunity to live a shared responsibility for the world and equip them with the tools to shape it for a better future. It shall also, focus on creating a youth movement to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030.

This MoU was signed by Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal and Dr. Anush Bekal, In-charge Industry Connect with Mr. Dhruvraaj Singh Rajvee, Business Expansions Head and Mr. Manan Shah, Entrepreneurship Exchanges In-charge of AIESEC (C/o Manipal Academy of Higher Education, MIT campus, Manipal).

Alumni are the ambassadors of an institution and have responsibility towards academic and research oriented initiatives of their alma mater. The department organizes Alumni Meet every year to bring back the alumni to the campus, spend quality time with the faculty, view the growth of the institution in person, keep abreast of the progress the institution is making in terms of quality of education it is imparting and contribute to the continuous improvement of the institution wherever possible.

A get-together of Sahyadri MBA alumni was held on 5th Oct’19. The Mega event began with a formal programme. Prof. Ramesh K G, Dean-Strategic Planning welcomed the gathering and Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA addressed the alumni, highlighting the latest developments and initiatives of the department. Mr. Roopesh Salian, the Chief Guest of the occasion is an alumnus from the 1st batch of Sahyadri MBA. Currently, he is a Senior Business Process Improvement Analyst at Northern Trust. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal re-iterated the role, an alumni plays in the overall development of the institution.

Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) is a community driven by tech enthusiasts and open-source contributors, to help young students to be part of the open-source ecosystem by providing training and skill development.

In his address, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte spoke on what Hactoberfest is all about and encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly. Prof. Prashanth Dudella, spoke about the importance of hackathons and gave insights on how to crack Smart India Hackathon.

The prestigious event Hacktoberfest HackNight hosted at Sahyadri The main event started off with a workshop followed by an 18-hour Hackathon wherein more than 120 students got together as teams and worked on projects under various real life problem statement given by organizations. The projects were then open sourced through GitHub paving way for new open source contributors to be born. There was also an opportunity given to the participants to solve problem statement and get Internship in Aptra.

Prevention Of Sexual Harassment (POSH) is the need of the hour and the Act of 2013 requires that every organization with 10 or more women employees should strictly adhere to the POSH Guidelines.

The team intends to facilitate an Awareness Programme on POSH at Sahyadri for its staff members and are also exploring opportunities to conduct Training Programmes on POSH to other organizations as well.

India First Leadership Talk SeriesIndia First Leadership Talk Series Institute Innovation Council of Sahyadri, established by the Ministry of Human Resources Department (MHRD), organized a LIVE streaming of “India First Leadership Talk Series” on 12th Oct’19. The session was delivered by Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The theme of the Talk Series was “Innovation for Resurgent India”.

Faculty members and students attended this live session. Dr. Pokhriyal began his talk on the importance of time management. He explained to the audience that there is no substitute for time management, whatsoever. If one needs to succeed, one needs to manage time effectively.

Moving ahead, questions like the importance of leadership skills and what exactly are leadership skills, were addressed. This indeed helped everyone present, to understand the term leader and leadership in depth.

Dr. Pokhriyal also shared his daily schedule with the audience and highlighted the importance of writing in his life. He encouraged everyone to find out that one thing which motivates them and very beautifully explained why and how one needs to stay motivated. The current scenario in the education system was discussed with special emphasis on practical learning and the need to produce more and more entrepreneurs as compared to the managers.

The talk proved to be of great help to all present there. It provided a vision, motivation and a will to achieve anything and everything in the coming days and make our nation a better place to live in.

MBAs attend Outbound Training at Nature Bound Sahyadri, AnkolaMBAs attend Outbound Training at Nature Bound Sahyadri, Ankola A total of 125 students from first year MBA accompanied with 3 faculty members participated in the “Outbound Experiential Business Management Training Module” at ‘Nature Bound Sahyadri Camp’ in Ankola. The course was organized for value forming experiences through adventure and challenge, Compassion and Service, Learning through experience and social and environmental responsibility.

The course facilitated experiences through activities and games to get a practical insight to individual behaviour and group dynamics. The purpose was to reflect upon desired responses and experiment them in real time situations and further reflect on what to expect from future experiences. The students were divided into nine teams and each team was allotted with a trainer. As soon as the students entered into the camp they had to deposit all the gadgets and hence had to stay away from digital life for three days. The students also had to stay in tents.

The whole-day event included activities related to communication, adventure, scavenging and navigation in forest using navigation compass. It also included briefing sessions on personality development, smart thinking, development and application of strategies.

MBAs attend Outbound Training at Nature Bound Sahyadri, Ankola The students had to challenge themselves when they were tested with physical endurance and also logical thinking. Students returned with a positive feedback and also expressed their confidence to stay away from the digital gadgets for more hours. The talk was essentially for the female teaching, non-teaching staff and students. The Talk was delivered by Dr. Rachan Shetty, Consultant Oncologist, A.J. Cancer Institute, Mangaluru. Dr. Rachan Shetty comes with an extensive experience in solid tumour oncology, treatment of breast, lung, liver, gastrointestinal, head and neck and gynaecological malignancy.

In his talk, Dr. Rachan Shetty explained in detail about the causes of breast cancer, risk factors, screening methods, early detection and the need for a reliable permanent cure. While talking about breast cancer statistics, he said that Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall. Every year, over a million cases of breast cancer are reported.

Dr. Shetty effectively responded to the questions asked, by which the audience got clarification and enhanced their knowledge. A video on self-examinations, mammograms and other tests was also played for the benefit of the audience, in order to support the spoken words.

Seetharamu, Technical Advisor for National Design Research Forum (NDRF) and Former Director, Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Bengaluru, visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 24th Oct’19. His visit relates to planning of student activities under the AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme.

Prof. Seetharamu has been selected as AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor for the Department of Mechanical Engineering of our institute under the above scheme for a period of one year starting from June 2019 to May 2020, which is extendable up to 5 years as industry expert.

Prof. Seetharamu interacted with the students of Mechanical Engineering and talked about various avenues for career growth in mechanical engineering. He also covered topics on material science, metallurgy and energy. He then visited AI Lab and discussed about introducing AI to mechanical engineering. He also interacted with the faculty and advised them to take up industrial consultancy assignments in the future.

The workshop was presided over by Dr. Ananth Prabhu G., Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering. He is a Guest Faculty of Cyber Security at Karnataka Judicial Academy and Police Academy. Mrs. Shreelatha, Academic Administrative Officer (AAO) and Dr. Anush Bekal, Vice-President IIC-Sahyadri, graced the event.

Dr. Prabhu is a very dynamic personality and also a motivational speaker. In his talk, he gave insight into some very common mistakes everyone does on the internet, the problems caused by attackers while accessing the internet and how the Trojan Virus is injected through the pictures. He also suggested ways on how to be free from cyber attacks. He also spoke about some of the tools of artificial intelligence which are being misused by the attackers to cheat people. The students found the talk very inspiring and interesting. On the whole, the workshop was well received and the students gained great insights.

Maker Camp DIY Eco-friendly Diwali Lamps kMaker Camp DIY Eco-friendly Diwali Lamps Maker Camp – an Awareness Programme, was conducted on 20th Oct’19 with the intent to reduce the use of plastic lamps during Diwali. Eco-friendly Diwali lamps were made during this camp, using recycled coconut shells and bamboo. Students along with their families participated in this camp and made their own lamps as takeaways for their homes.

The Maker-Camp was organized by DreamWorks Makerspace Sahyadri in collaboration with DTlabz R&D Pvt. Ltd. It is an initiative of the Institution's Innovation Council (Ministry of Human Resource Development).

The Association of Electronics & Communication Engineering Students (AEnCES) of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, for the Academic Year 2019-20, was inaugurated on 22nd Oct’19. The theme of the event was REDCARPET.
Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, was the chief guest of the event. He addressed the gathering and briefed about the upcoming visit of the NBA team to the campus. He also spoke about how NBA accreditation could benefit the student fraternity. Dr. Ashwath Rao, Head, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering gave insights into the various initiatives of the department such as virtual labs, mentoring and peer to peer learning. The key to achieve goals, is the active involvement of students in these initiatives, he stressed.
Mr. Gurusiddayya Hiremath, Co-ordinator indicated the importance of such events in the future life, when students start working. He also expressed his gratitude to students, teaching and non-teaching staff, for their active involvement in making this event a success. Ms. Deepthi Rai, Secretary – AEnCES, presented planned events for the Academic Year 2019-20. The chief guests for the programme were alumni Mr. Chethak Kulal & Mr. Lenson Roy Saldahna.

Mr. Chethak Kulal is an Associate Director in the Kannada Film Industry. He is the co-founder of Axemen's Films Ad Company in Mangaluru. He started his career as an Assistant Director of Blockbuster movie “Ondu Motteya Kathe”. Later, he also worked in another blockbuster movie “Sarakari Hiriya Praathamika Shaale Kasaragodu” which won National Award. He has worked in six movies so far.

Mr. Lenson Roy Saldanha is one of the Directors of Axndx Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a Private incorporated company in Mangaluru. Axndx is involved in software publishing, consultancy and supply.

In his address, Mr. Saldanha encouraged the gathering to aim high and think of the bigger picture. So, put in your best effort and work hard to attain it, he urged. He also shared his experiences of those days of struggle, in his career as an entrepreneur.

Sahyadrians recruited by Cognizant A total of 50 students were recruited by Cognizant for the position of Programmer Analyst Trainee, in the recently held Campus Recruitment Drive. At this, Sahyadri stands to have the maximum number of students recruited by this company in the entire Mangaluru region.

Out of the fifty students recruited, a record number of 31 students are from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, nine are from the Department of Information Science & Engineering, seven from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and 3 from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The pay package offered is Rs 4 Lakhs per annum.

In response to the order placed by Maverick Valves for their requirements of valve components, the order was shipped to them by Caliper. The valve components are produced by Caliper, maintaining strict quality standards.

Maverick Valves is a dynamic global trading company and supplier in the Valve industry based in the Netherlands. Within a short period of four weeks, the first export order was shipped. Impressed with the swift action and good performance, Maverick Valves has placed further orders for various valve components. The same are now under production at Caliper.

Campus Recruitment Drive- Juspay

Campus Recruitment Drive- Juspay As a part of the recruitment drive, Juspay conducted an Online Assessment on 21st Oct’19, for all branches of engineering students from 2019-2020 outgoing batch. Students having a keen interest in coding participated in the assessment. A total of 98 students took up the test and the results are yet to be declared.

Flutter Workshop by Developer Student Club The beginning of a series of Flutter workshops took place on Sunday, 29th September 2019 with Developer Student Clubs (DSC) Sahyadri, which is affiliated to Google Developer Groups, taking up a day’s worth of sessions on the new framework for iOS and Android development by Google. Melwin Lobo and Adithya Suvarna from Computer Science & Engineering were the speakers of the event. The sessions covered the basics required to build an app with Flutter. This workshop will be continued on next Sunday with in-depth information on Flutter.

Game of Codes organized by IEEE SB-SCEM

Game of Codes organized by IEEE SB-SCEM On the account of IEEE Day, the IEEE Student Branch of Sahyadri organized “Game of Codes”, a coding event open to all the branches. A total of 108 students had registered for the first round. The first round was a technical MCQ’s round which was hosted in HackerEarth – a coding avenue. The top 25 students of the first round then competed in the second round hosted in HackerRank, which had three coding scenarios to be solved. On completion of the event, the best coder Hussian Muhammad Billal of fifth semester-Computer Science & Engineering was adjudged as the “King of Codes”.

ISE Students on an Industrial Visit to Software Technology Park of India, Mangaluru Dept. of Information Science & Engineering organized an industrial visit to Software Technology Park of India, Mangaluru for the fifth semester students on Sep 17th ’19. Students got to know the significant progress in nurturing the growth of Software Industry after the establishment of STPI Centre in Mangaluru. They also received heads-up on entrepreneurial skills, project implementation and practical approach to understand certain theories dealt in class. The infrastructure consists of NOC working area, Incubation facility, Spacious Conference Hall, Networks Monitoring System and Library. Prof. Jayapadmini Kanchan and Prof. Prakhyath Rai accompanied the students for the visit.

Fourth Session on Future Skills - AI/ Big Data Sahyadri Future Skills - AI/ML Big Data organized its fourth session on 28 Sep’19. The session focussed on enlightening the knowledge about Artificial Neural Networks. Prof. Duddela Sai Prashanth facilitated the session with a group activity. Each group came up with a problem and how it can be solved using Machine Learning. The session was then followed by a talk on Artificial Neural Networks. This presentation has helped the participants to understand the functioning of Artificial Neural Networks.

ACM Sahyadri Student Chapter Inaugurated ACM Sahyadri Student Chapter was launched in Sahyadri on 11th Oct’19 in the presence of Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal; Dr. J.V. Gorabal, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department and the Chief Guest Ms. Samyuktha Prabhu (Current GirlScript Regional Head of Karnataka) under the banner of MHRDs Institutional Innovation Council-Sahyadri.

ACM Sahyadri is the first chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery in Sahyadri. During the leadership talk by the Chief Guest on "Opportunities and Career through ACM", Ms. Samyuktha gave a glimpse of the functioning of ACM-W Chapter Manipal, different events that can be hosted by the ACM Chapters, various scholarships available through ACM, how to build a perfect resume, benefits of ACM chapters and many more. The website of ACM Sahyadri i.e., acmsahyadri.cf was also launched during the event.

MBA Dept organizes a Discussion on Union Budget 2019-20

VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throwball Tournament organised at Sahyadri
Dept of Business Administration-MBA organized a Discussion on the Union Budget 2019-20 on 11th October, 2019. The students undertook various sectors and analyzed the positive and negative aspects of the budget. Dr. Wajeeda Bano, Department of Economics at Mangalore University, briefed about the budget from an economist’s point of view. She also stressed on the fact that as a responsible citizen of the nation we have to analyze a budget from the point of an economist and financial expert rather than saying a budget is good or bad. Nation comes first and as citizens we should help the government in achieving the vision of our country by implementing the programs and schemes in a better manner. This programme was organized to analyze the various programmes and schemes announced in Budget 2019-20 presented by Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman aimed at promoting agriculture, industry, services, international trade, etc. and generate employment and spur the growth in the economy.

Fourth session of 3D Printing and Robotics Vertical

Inauguration of Sahyadri Management Students Association (SMSA)  The fourth session of 3D Printing and Robotics Vertical was held on 5th Oct’19. The session was facilitated at the Caliper Industry. Mr. Dennis Pinto briefed about the configuration and application of robotics on the different industrial scenarios and highlighted few of the industrial robots involved in the manufacturing process. The demonstration on the working of MIG welding robot was also showed to the participants.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication Facility at Sahyadri Campus Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication Facility at Sahyadri Campus On the account of Innovation Day Campaign and 88th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management (SCEM) in association with Research Design Lab (RDL) Pvt.Ltd and under the banner of Sahyadri Institute Innovation Council (IIC) inaugurated the in-house Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication Lab Center of Excellence (CoE). PCB an essential component of all electronic devices, gadgets, Mobile, Laptop, TV, UPS, etc. PCB integrates various components to make the complete product. To date, students of SCEM for the projects and RDL for proof of concept (POC) had to depend on external agencies for realizing the circuit which consumes time, cost and efforts.

2. Ann V. Mariya won second place in 55kg category
3. Vaishnavi D.K. won 1st place in 59 kg category
4. Swathi won 1st place in 64 kg category

“Dotnet core and Multithreading” - Industry Expert Talk The Dept. of Information Science & Engineering organized an industry expert talk for the third year students on 12th Oct’19. Mr. Vasudevan, Software Engineer, RSA, Bengaluru, was the resource person. He has an industry experience of 4 years.

Mr. Vasudevan took up a session on “Dotnet core and Multithreading”. He briefed the students regarding the current industry needs, importance of good practices in programming and new project ideas. He gave a glimpse of the projects he is currently undertaking at RSA. He also stressed on the fact that learning is a never-ending process and called on the students to inculcate the habit of learning new things.

Expert talk on Agriculture held as a part Social Innovation Programme As a part Social Innovation Program, an expert talk on Horticulture Sector was held in campus on 18th Oct’ 2019. Mr. Sathyashankar K. and Mr. Muralikrishna K., founders of Kalpa Agri Service, Puttur addressed the first year engineering students. Kalpa Agri Service along with ARS Engineering has developed a coconut dehusking machine which can dehusk 800-1000 coconuts in one hour.

The founders gave awareness about various value added products that can be developed from coconut. They also stressed the importance of mechanization in horticulture sector and motivated the students to develop solutions that can add value to the farmers in the region.

Engineering students attend Workshop at NITK, Suratkal A total of 23 students participated in GO programming Workshop at NITK, Suratkal organized by "ACM-NITK" on 26th October. The resource person was Jyotsna Gupta, A software developer at Coffeebeans Consulting LPP, Bengaluru. At Coffeebeans Consulting, they are committed to provide consulting services and help create great businesses with cutting edge technology.

The session consisted of learning syntax of GO. GO or GoLang, is an open source programming language designed for building simple, fast and reliable software said Ms. Gupta. It is far better than other programming languages. Today's hardware needs a programming language that can support concurrency better, and that can scale up performance with the increase of added cores over time. This is where GO comes in as the most viable option, Ms. Gupta said.

The Workshop was concluded by teaching students how to build secure server using GO and career fields related to it. Ms. Gupta interacted with the students, answering all their queries and the students in turn built a good connectivity with her.

 First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes Clan Rachit: A total of 18 students of participated in Amalthea’19, organized by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, Gujarat. They have won 4th place in Icon and 8th place in Roboquest.

 First Year Engineering students achieve in Technical Fests at Premier Institutes Clan Udgam: A total of 21 students participated in Atmos, organized by Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani, Hyderabad. The Team was qualified for second round in I-navigate.

Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd gets approval from Brahmos Aerospace to be a vendor  Brahmos Aerospace, Trivandrum, manufacturers of supersonic cruise missiles for our Defence Forces, visited Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd, In-house Industry at Sahyadri, on 23rd Oct’19. After extensive quality audit, Brahmos approved Caliper to be included as their vendor. This opens up new horizon for Caliper and also provides Hi-Tech learning opportunities for students.

Interaction session - SilverPeak Global, (SPG) Japan SilverPeak Global, (SPG) visited Sahyadri on 21st Oct'19 and interacted with selected students and their parents about careers in Japan for Indian engineers. The session provided a clear understanding regarding the programme, the Japanese culture, internship and job opportunities that would be offered to the students. The interaction concluded with a Q&A session wherein all the parents clarified their doubts and concerns.

Alumnus of Challengers made it to the IndiGo Airlines

Alumnus of Challengers made it into IndiGo Airlines Mr Kausthubh P., an Alumnus of Challengers, Department of Mechanical Engineering, has cleared IndiGo Selection Process. IndiGo has a rigorous selection procedure consisting of 4 rounds. It assesses the eligibility of a candidate to become the captain on their fleet.
Mr. Kausthubh will be joining the course (Insight Aviation) in the 2nd week of Nov’2019. He will have his ground training in Gurgaon after clearing the DGCA papers. Thereafter, he will be sent to South Africa for flight training and after the conversion of license he will be sent to UAE for type rating of Airbus A320.
After the completion of this course, he will be joining as a First Officer for the Airlines.

Alumnus of CSE brings laurels to Sahyadri

Ms. Varsha Shetty from 2018 passed out batch of Computer Science & Engineering, placed in ITC Infotech, Bengaluru along with 8 other fellow Sahyadrians were trained and allocated to different projects in their company. Varsha was selected to work for one of the major banking project. She was given spot award last week recognising her effort put up in completing critical releases on or before time. She is the first girl below 25 years who is sent to onsite project to Jeddah, KSA.

The team members also interacted with many teams from various other colleges from all around India, who also participated in the prestigious event.

Session for IoT Future Skill Vertical

Session for IoT Future Skill Vertical alk Presentation of IoT (Internet of Things) Future Skill Initiative was organized on 19th Oct’19 at the Corporate Office of RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Design Engineer - RDL Technologies Pvt. Ltd., was the resource person. He handled the session on Back Scattering Technology, commonly known as Radio-frequency Identification (RFID).

Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) finds prominent place in IoT Solutions due to the simplicity and wide application. The working was briefly explained along with use case converting retail, transportation, mining industries. The team was encouraged to come up with use cases for in-college applications like Food Court, Attendance and Library.

The presentation concluded with a couple of challenges using RFID like reliability, speed and performance. More than 30 people benefited from this programme as a part of Sahyadri - IoT Future Skill Vertical.
