Honoring Ceremony of Sir M. Visvesvaraya

On the occasion of Engineers' Day the college organized an Honoring ceremony of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya in the campus. Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions and Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri Engineering College garlanded the image of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Prof. Umashankar, Dean Academic, Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice Principal, Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator, Dr. A.P. Achar, Director, MBA, HoD’s, Faculty members, Students Council Members showered flowers on the statue of Sir. M. V and honoured Bharat Rathna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his 154th Birthday.

Later in the day a formal function was held in the campus. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal enlightened the large numbers of students with his thought provoking talk. He gave a call to the upcoming engineers to have a creative and questioning mind to challenge things and to move in a right direction.

Students’ Council members held a quiz session for the students gathered. Few students shared their views and read poems written by them. Principal gave away prizes for the winners of Drawing Competition organized by Manthana. Students sang songs and entertained the audience. Prof. Umashankar, Dean Academic, HoD’s, Faculty members were present on the occasion. A VTU state level Kannada Essay Competition was held in the Campus, students took part in an inter-collegiate project exhibition and team Dreamers organised a programme Ingenius: Giving You the Power to be Your Best, a session by the team Dreamers to the upcoming Engineers in Expert P.U. College, Valachil. Students also took part in paper presentation competitions at St. Joseph Engineering College on Engineers’ Day and won prizes.

Chairman Addresses First Year Students

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, interacted with first year students. He introduced himself and shared some of his life experiences. He said that there are two options in life; Accept or Change. He motivated the students to fix the goal in their life and stay focused towards it. He also stressed upon thinking analytically and to evaluate oneself and accept the reality. He spoke about the differences between teacher and lecturers. He also stressed upon the importance of value added courses, industry interactions and projects which will enable the students to compete with the new technology. He encouraged them to take up projects under Sahyadri project funding scheme. He asked the students to be the visionaries who create jobs for others. He also explained how the companies will set recruitment criteria and the preparations that need to be made towards placements. He gave the thumb rule to lead a disciplined life and wished all the students a bright future ahead.

Freshers Day Celebrated

The first B.E. students celebrated Freshers Day in the Campus. Mr. E. S. Chakravarthy, Centre Head, TCS, Bangalore was the Chief Guest for the function. He was accompanied by Mr. Sreenivasa Ramanujam, Mr. Prithvesh and Mr. Chandru Koduru, delegates from TCS. Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri Educational Institutions was the Guest of Honour.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, in his presidential speech to the freshers, apprised the guests and the gathering about the growth of the College in various arenas such as academics, sports, projects and the impetus being given to research and innovation. He congratulated the winners of the Microsoft Yappon contest and the winners of the project exhibition held as part of international conference on Embedded System Automotive and Avionics held at IISc. in Bangalore. He encouraged and conveyed his best wishes to them. He called upon the students to take advantage of the Student Project Support Scheme (SPSS) funded by Sahyadri to a tune of Rs. 25 Lakhs.

Mr. E. S. Chakravarthy, the Chief Guest in his thought provoking speech to the gathered students said, “technology is getting integrated in everything that we do and there is no dearth of opportunities for engineering students today.” He informed students that the future of the industry lies in social media programming, cloud computing, analytics, mobility and artificial intelligence. He advised the young entrants to engineering courses to go after three things which he called the 3Cs, which are core competencies; strong academic fundamentals of engineering; read voraciously for information, study for understanding, apply these fundamentals in various projects and keep practicing to get better competencies, secondly, he said what engineering students have to imbibe in their four years of study are communication skills and articulation capabilities and thirdly a culture of respect, and a culture of team work; setting targets and going after it. He also stressed that technology should be used along with innovation. Mr. Chakravarthy further requested the students to take their final year projects seriously to gain a competitive edge and to always keep abreast of what is happening in the domain that one has opted for. He cautioned the students to never lose character and the value systems and to enjoy every second of engineering education and to never lose purpose.

Thanking the institution for giving him this wonderful opportunity, Mr. Chakravarthy said that it was always a pleasure to share his views with engineering institutions and that he and his team would do everything possible for the overall growth of Sahyadri.

Danusha and Varun, first year B. E. students shared their experience so far at Sahyadri on behalf of all the other first year students. Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal, HoDs, faculty and staff were present on the occasion. Students showcased their talents in cultural extravaganza after the formal function.

Prestigious Microsoft EduKinect Yappon Event Held in the Campus

The Microsoft Edukinect Yappon - 2014 event was held for the second time in the Campus. A total of 297 students participated from various branches of Engineering and other disciplines. Yappon is a 24 hour program, where a team has to build the Microsoft app. 80 teams participated in this event and developed 94 Windows Applications. Last year, 80 groups were formed out of 186 students, developed a total of 62 apps.

The top 3 teams received a cash award, T shirts and certificates, and one team received a consolation award. And the rest of the participants received participation certificates.

The first topper developed 1 Windows app and 3 Windows games (monster Attack, Dark City Run and Jelly rush). They bagged a cash prize of rupees five thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Priyanka Shetty, Chaithra Shetty, Shreyanka Shetty, and Sangeetha K. of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The second topper developed 5 Windows games (Dodge IT, Facto-o-Tree, Have Eat, Sky Marble and Anglo Fence). They bagged a cash prize of rupees three thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Ankit Pratap Singh, and Gouse Khan, of the Department Information Science & Engineering and Atif Khan and Ranjith Ram M. of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The third topper developed one Windows app (HelpEd). They bagged a cash prize of rupees two thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Preetham and Sona Krishnan of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Kruthi K. K. and Anvitha U. S. of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The consolation prize winners developed one Windows App (Namaste Mangalore). They bagged T-shirts and certificates. The team members were K. Swathi, M, S, Nazriya Begum, Gunavathi S. Anchan, and Deepali Chandrahas Kumble of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. Sri Mrityunjay Bhadauria, CEO and Co-Founder of Edukinect gave away the cash awards and certificates to the winners of the contest.

Sahyadrians excel in EmbedAsia International Conference at IISc

Continuing the winning spree, the students of the College have bagged the first, second and fourth place out of five prizes in the Automotive Embedded Challenge (AEC), organized as part of International Conference on Embedded System Automotive & Avionics held at IISc, Bangalore in association with National Instruments, Xilinx and LDRA. The four projects proposed by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management students under the guidance of Prof. Abdul Kareem, Head, department of Projects and Funding were selected for the final round. In the final round held at IISc, Bangalore, Sahyadrians bagged three prizes.

The First prize was bagged by the project ‘Intuitive Spy Drone’, by a team comprising of Fadil, Nived, Luqman, semester VII, E&C Mohammed Anwar, Probid, semester V, E&C and Gokul Nair, semester V, Mechanical Engineering. The second prize was bagged by the project ‘Slam Based Wheelchair’ by Aishwarya Rai and Achala Shetty, semester VII, E&C Engineering whereas the Fourth prize was bagged by the project ‘Embedded Electronics in Quad copter’ by Johnson, John, Nikhil, Nishanth, semester VII, E&C and Shreya, semester V, E&C Engineering. The aim of the Automotive Embedded Challenge (AEC) was to identify, promote and reward outstanding engineering talents across India. The contest provided a level-playing field for every budding engineer in automotive field to display his technical brilliance. It provided a platform to engineering students to develop their presentation skills and marketing capabilities by presenting idea of their choice to a Review Panel. Through a rigorous and challenging selection process, a distinguished panel of judges comprising of academic and industry leaders selected top five from a nationwide pool of thousands.

Faculty Member becomes Member of the Academic Council of Mangalore University

As per the direction of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University Dr. Navin N Bappalige, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics has been nominated as a member to the ‘Academic Council’ of Mangalore University. As he has served as a principal for five years in an affiliated degree college and has a total of seventeen years of experience in various capacities, for the next two years he will be part of proceedings of the academic council, a decision making body of the Mangalore University. It is a honour for the College.

Vishwa Tuluvere Parba at Sahyadri

Vishwa Tuluvere Parba, an amalgamation of cultural and literary programmes, along with exhibition, competitions and entertainment akin to Tulunadu culture will be organized on December 12, 13 and 14, 2014 at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management premises. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. Virendra Hegde, inaugurating the Programme of the office of the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba, announced the premises being shifted from Pilikula to Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Mr. Nalin S. Kohli Political and Media Personality Visits Sahyadri

Mr. Nalin S. Kohli, Political and Media Personality visited the College and met and interacted with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, the Chairman. Recalling his earlier association with the Chairman, Mr. Kohli expressed his happiness on seeing the Chairman’s vision that has taken shape in building an institution such as Sahyadri. He was delighted to see first hand the various facilities and infrastructure provided by the management. He conveyed his best wishes to the management, staff and students of the institution. Mr. Nalin S. Kohli is a political personality with over two decades of professional experience in the Education Sector and the Media and Entertainment Industry. He is the National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling political party in India. Mr. Kohli is also a National Executive Member of the BJP and in charge (Prabhari) for the state of Mizoram and member of the BJP’s Committee for the North East Region.

Mr. Nalin S. Kohli has conducted media management workshops at various institutions including as a visiting faculty to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Ranchi. He has also conducted Media Training Workshops in India and Sri Lanka for television, radio presenters and management professionals. He is the former Chairman and Founder Director of a leading international curriculum boarding and day boarding school in Faridabad near Delhi and was the founder Director and creator of a leading Media Institute in collaboration with the Missouri School of Journalism, USA, the oldest journalism school in the world.

Mr. Kohli is the former Primetime News on Doordarshan (India’s National Television Channel) and Anchor for over 2000 hours of Live and Recorded Broadcasting of various genres of programming. He has produced and directed over 100 hours of television programming on Art and Culture, Literature, Dance, Tourism, Advocacy and Health.

Mr. Kohli has an LLB degree from Delhi University, a Post Graduation in Business Management, FORE School of Management and B. A. History (Honours) from the Delhi University (University position holder). He has travelled widely to many countries several times over.

Sahyadri Signs MoU with EHSRDC

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and M/s Environmental Health and Safety Research & Development Centre (EHSRDC), Bangalore. The MoU will facilitate environmental clearance services through EIA consultancy, environmental laboratory services, technical and project consultancy for STP/ETP projects on turnkey basis.

Mr. Shivananda Damble, Chairman and Managing Director and Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, signed the MoU in the presence of Dr. S. Manjappa, Director, Research and Consultancy, Prof. Umashanker B. S., Dean Academic, Prof. Dayanand Shetty, Director - STEP, Prof. Emeritus B. N. Karkera, Prof. Umesh, HoD, Department of Civil Engineering, and Prof. Balakrishna, HoD, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Damble said that the MoU will help students and staff to get wider exposure to technology, project work and internship. The MoU was facilitated through Dr. S. Manjappa, Director, Research and Consultancy.

Dr. A. P. Achar Empanelled by the Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India

Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration was invited as the resource person by National Institute of Agricultural Extensional Management ( MANAGE) Hyderabad, to take a session on “ TQM in farm business management" for the participants of US –India- Africa Triangular International training programme. Dr. Achar is one among the 20 experts empanelled by the Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India to take sessions for US- India- Africa triangular International training programme
