Zonal Level Competitions of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) – 2014 Held at G.P.U.C. and SSPU College

The Zonal Level Competitions of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2014 was held at G.P.U.C. Byndoor. Mr. Raju Poojari Ex-President Jilla Panchayath Udupi (D) inaugurated the program. In his inaugural address, he motivated the students to actively involve in research activities. Mr. Palaksha, Principal, GPUC, Byndoor, Mr. Shobhan Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mr. Vinod, Lecturer, P U College Bhatkal, Mr. Ramkumar Lecturer, GPUC, Byndoor, presided over the function.

Mr. Shobhan Kumar spoke about the Sahyadri Corpus Fund giving the example of Laksmi Parvathi (student PU College) and the Student Project Support Scheme of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

In the valedictory programme, Mr. Ramkumar read out the winners list. Mr. Praveen Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, congratulated all the winners and encouraged all the participants. Mr. Palaksha, Principal, GPUC Byndoor, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and support rendered by the Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management.

The Competitions of Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt-2014 were held at SSPU College, Subrahmanya. The neighboring colleges that participated in the event were K. S. Gowda P U College (Ninthikalu) and SRPU College (Ramakunja). The Sahyadri chief co-ordinators for the program were Mr. Jaimon D. Quadros, Mr. Suhas and Mr. Vaishak N. L. Asst. Professors, Department of Mechanical Engineering. The program co-ordinator from SSPU was Mr. Girish, Lecturer, Department of Physics. The chief guest for the program was Prof. Anand, Lecturer in Physics, Government College, Puttur.

The inaugural function was presided over by Mr. K. Vasanth Shetty, Principal, SSPU College, Subrahmanya. In his inaugural address he appreciated the efforts taken up by Sahyadri team for conducting an event of such magnitude. He also stressed on the fact that these type of competitions which are a rarity in the rural areas have to be conducted on a regular scale in order to motivate and build the confidence of the students which in turn will help them progress in their career. Mr. Anand then took over and addressed the students on how important projects and practical work, form have become an integral part of education. Mr. Vaishak, Chief Co-ordinator of the event gave insight about the in pure sciences and applied sciences which are a mainstream for science students and the way in which Sahyadri Institution is trying to achieve success through projects and research. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Somashekar, Lecturer, Department of English, where he expressed his sincere gratitude for the opportunity and support rendered by the Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in conducting the event. The occasion received an overwhelming response with close to 350 students participating in different events. In the valedictory program, prizes were given out by Mr. Suhas and Mr. Jaimon D. Quadros.

Workshop on “Offshore Engineering and Opportunities”

The Department of Civil Engineering held a full-day workshop entitled “Offshore Engineering and Opportunities” in the Campus. Principal, Dr. U. M. Bhushi was Chief Guest of the program and the function was presided over by Prof. Umashankar B. S, Dean Academic. Prof. Umesh S. S, HoD of the department addressed all the dignitaries, staff and students. The resource person of the workshop was Mr. Vaibhav Inamdar (Chief Learning Officer) NGICE, Bengaluru. Mr. Inamdar gave a talk about the demands of offshore structures, salary structures in offshore industry, consumption and exploration of oil in the world and also gave an introduction and demonstration of SACS- Bently software, Aveva PDMS. Sixty-four delegates participated in the workshop from different institutes. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together students towards industrial exposure in the offshore engineering technology and to identify opportunities in offshore industries.

‘Hindi Diwas
Samaaroh – 2014’

Hindi Sangh of Sahyadri P. U. College organized “Hindi Diwas Samaaroh – 2014” as a part of Hindi Day celebrations. Dr. R. Nagesh Kanchan, Hindi Faculty, St. Agnes College, Mangaluru, was the Chief Guest.

Dr. Nagesh explained the significance of Hindi Diwas and the role of Hindi Language in nation building. He provided useful tips to the students on enhancing their language competence and communication skills. He assured the students that Hindi language does provide job opportunities to those who have mastered it.

Mr. Naveen S. A. Principal, Sahyadri P. U. College, lamented the decline in the standard of language being used in the media and called upon the students to make the best use of co-curricular activities in the college. He lauded the efforts of Hindi Sangh in this regard.

Top-scorers in Hindi Exams and students who won in the various competitions held as a part of Hindi Day celebrations were felicitated on this occasion. The formal programme was followed by a cultural presentation by students. Mrs. Tasleema, Hindi Faculty, Sahyadri P. U. College and Co-ordinator of Hindi Sangh provided valuable guidance to the students in organizing the event.

“Nudi Namana – 2014”

‘Sirigannada Koota’, the Kannada Association of Sahyadri P. U. College organized “Nudi Namana – 2014”, as a part of Kannada Rajyothsava celebrations. Dr. Nagaveni Manchi, H.O.D. Kannada Department, S. V. S College, Bantwal was the Chief Guest.

Dr. Nagaveni stressed the importance of language, culture and art in our lives. She urged the students to think beyond the academic curriculum and listed the advantages of reading literature. She complimented the Kannada Association for encouraging the creativity among students.

Mr. Naveen S. A. Principal, Sahyadri P. U. College, opined that present day youth ignore the importance of language and literature because of their fascination towards mobile phones and social media. He advised the students to develop the reading habit and quoted several Kannada poems to illustrate the noble thoughts expressed in them.

Winners of various competitions held as a part of “Nudi Namana – 2014” were felicitated on the occasion. The formal programme was followed by a cultural presentation by students.

Ms. Deepthi, Kannada Faculty, Sahyadri P. U. College and Co-ordinator of ‘Sirigannada Koota’ provided valuable guidance to the students in organizing the programme.
