Inauguration of Sahyadri Youth Red Cross Unit and SERV team training at Sahyadri Campus Inauguration of Sahyadri Youth Red Cross Unit and SERV team training at Sahyadri Campus The Sahyadri Youth Red Cross Unit was inaugurated by Mr. C.A. Shanthram Shetty, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, DK Branch, on 2nd Nov’19. The training of the first Social Emergency Response Volunteer Team was kick-started the same day. The training will continue for two days. Mr C.A. Shanthram Shetty, in his inaugural address spoke about the importance of students’ active participation in rendering selfless service to humanity. He gave a brief about the history and working of the Red Cross Society and appreciated Sahyadri for starting the Youth Red Cross Unit. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Mr. Prabhakar Sharma, S.A., KAS, Hon. Secretary, IRCS, DK. He related his experience in Red Cross and how it impacted and changed his life. He urged the students to participate in as many social activities as possible involving selfless service. He had nothing but admiration for Sahyadri for their initiative to set up a Youth Red Cross Unit which is something very rare when it comes to professional technical colleges. Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, who also presided over this event, delivered the presidential address and wished the team a successful two-day training programme.

Mr Sacheth Suvarna, SERV Coordinator, IRCS DK; Mr. Ashwin Kumar and Mrs. Gloria Rodrigues are the resource persons for the training programme.

Mrs. Shreelatha U.A., Academic Administrative Officer; Mrs. Rashmitha Girish Nishal, Student Welfare Officer and Mr. Ankith S. Kumar, Student Counselor, were present. Around 30 students from all branches of engineering and MBA, will be participating in the two-day training. They will be trained by experts in basic first aid.

Sinchana-2019 was brought to a successful closing after a day filled with cultural extravaganza. Students with a lot of enthusiasm, zeal and extraordinary talents, showcased the various cultures and traditions of Karnataka thereby sending a beautiful social message.

Appreciating the talent, the students were awarded accordingly. Here is a list of prize winners:
• Computer Science & Engineering won the first place
• Mechanical Engineering won the second place, and
• The third place went to Electronics & Communications Engineering.
• The students of the Mechanical, Computer Science and Information Science engineering bagged the3 overall championship

Faculty achieved in State Level Story Writing Competition

Faculty achieved in State Level Story Writing Competition Prof. Akshaya Shetty, Department of Humanities, has been awarded on 31st October, at Padua College, on the occasion of Nanda Gokula Deepavali Celebration, 2019.

‘SAADHANAA’ National Cultural Foundation Trust in association with Arehole Foundation conducted the state level story writing competition. The theme of the competition was “Baandhavya”, meaning bonding. Prof. Akshaya Shetty won 2nd place along with cash prize, for her story “Kaidhaare”.

A well known Dharmadarshi, Shri Harikrishna Punarooru and Rev. Fr. Alwin Serao, Principal, Padua College felicitated Prof. Akshaya Shetty, for her achievement.

Shree K. V. Krishnadas, President, ‘SAADHANAA’, National Cultural Foundation Trust, Shree Arehole Sadashiva Rao, President, Arehole Foundation, and P. Kishore Rao, Ex-Governer, Lions Club, were present during the felicitation.

Er. Ameer Suhail, Alumnus - Department of Civil Engineering interacts with students

Er. Ameer Suhail, Alumnus - Department of Civil Engineering interacts with students Er. Ameer Suhail, Site Engineer, Sriram Greenfields, Garden City, Bengaluru visited the campus and interacted with the engineering students. In his address he spoke about ‘Career for a Civil Engineer’ which includes several lucrative job avenues in both public and private sectors. Some popular options including consulting firms, railways, defence force, and municipal corporations were also discussed.

He shared his experience and advised the students to groom themselves to meet the needs of the industries. He called upon the students to harness soft skills which are pertinent to deal with work. He recalled his days as a student at Sahyadri and gave inputs on how involving in the college activity has helped him in his professional career.

Er. Suhail encouraged students to take up internships to get exposed to real time construction works which in turn helps them in better placement.

Prof. Pavanalaxmi is an Assistant Professor of Electronics & Communication Engineering Department and has 7 years of teaching experience. She has completed her B. E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering from NMAMIT, Nitte and M.Tech in Digital Communication & Networking from GIT, Belgaum. Her areas of research include Communication, Networking, and Control System.

Mentee Details:
• Abhishekh Shivathaya is from Udupi. He pursued his high school from Govt. High School, Volakad and PUC from MGM PU College, Udupi. He was a district topper in school and was gifted a laptop by the government. He has won 2nd place in Wipro Quiz competition, 3rd place in Sanskrit speech and 2nd place in Debate and Essay competitions arranged by Sanskrit Sabha, Udupi. He has participated in many National Level science modeling competitions. His hobbies are reading novels and photography. He wants to be a robotic engineer.
• Pooja K.V. Shekhar is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from SharadaVidyalaya and PUC from Sharada PU College, Mangaluru. She has won many prizes in competitions like poster making, bhajans, painting and craft. Her hobbies are painting, listening to music and dancing. She wants to work in Amazon.
• Pranav P. Hegde is from Shimoga. He pursued his high school from M. G. N. Pai High School, Sagar and PUC from P. R. N. Amrutha Bharathi PU College, Hebri. He has played throw ball at the district level and volleyball at the zonal level, during his school days. His hobbies are playing guitar, tabla and listening to music. He wishes to be an electronics engineer.
• Saavan R. Rai is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school from Canara High School and PUC from St. Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. He has participated in many cultural competitions and Science model competitions during his school days. His hobbies are coin collection, painting, and playing badminton. His future goal is to join Navy.
• Nikhil Shetty is from Mangaluru. He pursued his high school from SharadaVidyalaya and PUC from Sharada PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are acting, playing cricket and kabaddi.
• Shravya S. Shetty is from Mangaluru. She pursued her high school from Delhi Public School and PUC from Sri Chaitanya PU College, Mangaluru. She has won many prizes in sports, drawing, dance competitions and won prizes in model making competition conducted by MRPL. She has also cleared her juniors in classical Bharatnatyam. Her hobbies are reading books, listening to music, cooking and gardening. She wants to work in an IT company.
