Civil Engineering students visit Badakabellur Village as a part of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan As part of ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’, students of Third Semester Civil Engineering visited Badakabellur Village in Bantwal, on 1st Nov’19.
The mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.
In this regard, the students carried out household survey wherein they interacted with the natives of the village and discussed various problems faced by them with regard to health and sanitation, educational facilities, water supply, food & nutrition, road networks and other basic amenities.
The students were accompanied by Prof. Sunil Kumar K., Prof. Kavyashree M.P., Prof. Anil Kumar N.S., Prof. Nithish M.G. and Ms. Jyoti.

Fifth Session for AI/Big Data Future Skill Vertical

Fifth Session for AI/Big Data Future Skill Vertical On 2nd Nov’19, the fifth session for the AI/Big Data Future Skill Vertical was held. Mr. Pradeep Kumar from RDL Technologies Pvt Ltd facilitated a session on “Physical Rehabilitation through AI”. He is also associated with the Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering. He shared the Problem and the Outcome of a LIVE Case - Disabilities when detected early has a high probability of resolution which can be done through AI. Brain can be trained if detected early. He spoke about their current project on AI related to a mat with matrix of senses which measures the Physical Movement - Pressure, Force, Direction, Continuity etc of a child. He also spoke about a case wherein the Physiotherapist assesses the progress in health of a patient. The individual can also self-assess his/her progress. The differences in both assessments are tracked to see any gap for building further accuracy in the outcome. Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff who belong to this vertical had great learning outcome as they could visualize how AI can help in solving disability and health related issues.

Ms. Madhura Hegde . is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Science & Engineering. She has 5 years of teaching and 1.5 years of Industry experience. She graduated from VCET, Puttur. She completed her M.Tech in Computer Networking & Engineering from NMIT, Nitte. Her area of interest is computer networking and machine learning in bioinformatics. She is a freelance writer for Kannada Newspapers. She is also a member of Sahyadri Toastmasters Club. She acquired the certificate of Competent Leader from Toastmasters International club. .

Details of Mentees:
• Swaroop is from Belthangady. He has completed SSLC from Holy Reedemer High School and PUC from Vani PU College, Belthangady. His hobbies are art, computer & mobile games, and watching movies. He desires to become a successful software developer.
• Vivek T. is from Kodagu. He has completed SSLC from Sri Rajarajeshwari High School and PUC from Ambika Padavi Poorva Vidyalaya. His hobbies are playing Volleyball, listening to music. He desires to join MNC and become a successful engineer.
• Shishira is from Kumble. She has completed SSLC from Sharadha Vidyaniketan and PUC from Sharada PU College, Mangaluru. Her hobbies are listening to music and reading books. She desires to join reputed MNC as a software engineer.
• Nanditha Aruna Shetty is from Udupi. She has completed SSLC from Govt High School, Avarse and PUC from SDPT PUC College, Mandarthi. Her hobbies are playing chess and reading books. Her dream is to join a reputed IT company.
• Shubam is from Mangaluru. He has completed SSLC from SGSS High School and PUC from Sharadha PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies are reading books, listening to music. He desires to work in a reputed software company and be a successful computer engineer.
