Session on “Importance of Fire Safety in industries and day-today life, precautions, necessary steps”

A session on “Importance of Fire Safety in industries and day-today life, precautions, necessary steps” is organised Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with FLAMES & ISTE Chapter organised a session on “Importance of Fire Safety in industries and day today life, precautions, necessary steps” on 6th Nov’19 for the students of mechanical and civil engineering. The session was followed by demonstration on how one can be rescued from fire accidents. Students were given hands-on session on the same.

Mr. Rajesh Shetty, Managing Partner - Alpha Technical Training & Development Center, Mangaluru, was the Resource Person. He addressed the audience on the possibilities of fire accidents, sources, their impact on living and non-living things, precautions to be taken as well as rescue operations involved.

Further, he gave an overview on different courses available which can help students to build their professional career. He also explained the theory of fire, fire ratings, periodic inspection of extinguishers, fire-fighting systems, exam preparation etc.

‘Power of 10’, a Sahyadri MBA Community Initiative‘Power of 10’, a Sahyadri MBA Community Initiative Bringing joy unconditionally in the lives of deprived children is our students’ priority. As such, students of MBA Department carried out ‘Power of 10’, a community initiative jointly with Forum Fiza Mall, Mangaluru as a part of “My Wishing Tree”, Joy of Giving Week (Daan Utsav.

The amount collected through voluntary contributions was utilized to buy stationery items like note books, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, pouch, colour pens and colouring books. These were then distributed to the children from economically poor background studying in government schools.

Our students now carry a sense of pride in them, as they are one of the reasons for bringing a smile on those kids’ faces.

Senior Project Scientist, Indian Institute of Science, interacts with First Year MBA Students Senior Project Scientist, Indian Institute of Science, interacts with First Year MBA Students  Prof. TVP Chowdry, Senior Project Scientist, Indian Institute of Science interacted with the students of first year MBA on the topic “Product Design”.

Prof. Chowdry put forth certain questions to all budding managers relating to business, enabling learners to think beyond their theoretical knowledge. He stated that “the core of any business lies in its product and services” and explained the same by giving examples of unicorn startups. He also discussed about the causes of product failure, characteristics of successful product development and traditional product development process.

Prof. Chowdry concluded the session by showing a video on product development process and asked all the aspiring managers to engage themselves in designing or launching a product within the college campus. He also made the learners realize how lucky they are, to be a part of an institution which provides them with real working environment.

Seventh Semester Civil Engineering Students Visit Gurupura Bridge Construction SiteSeventh Semester Civil Engineering Students Visit Gurupura Bridge Construction Site The students of Seventh Semester Civil Engineering visited Gurupura River Bridge Construction site with a view to get a broader exposure on Prestressed Concrete bridge elements and project management practices used in the construction of bridges. Students had an opportunity to know things practically regarding prestressing of deck slabs of bridges through interaction with the site engineers, prestressing methodologies and employment practices adopted based on site conditions.

Er Deekshith M Shetty, Site Engineer, Mugrody Constructions and Er. Subramanya Prabhu, ACCEI Member, Mangalore Centre gave the students a briefing on the construction practices pertaining to prestressed precast elements. The students were accompanied by Prof. Deepthishree S Aithal and Prof. Smitha, of the Civil Engineering Department.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Tayana Software Solutions (P) Ltd

Campus Recruitment Drive - Tayana Software Solutions (P) Ltd Tayana Software Solutions (P) Ltd conducted a 2-day Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2020 outgoing batch. A five-member recruitment team from Tayana was at the campus to facilitate the process.

A total of 145 students from various colleges attended the drive held on 5th & 6th Nov' 19. Out of these, five students from pool colleges were shortlisted for further rounds which will be held in Bengaluru.

Session by Brigadier Ravindran

Session by Brigadier Ravindran Brigadier Ravindran K N, Ex Indian Army, visited Sahyadri on 7th Nov'19 and addressed the final year engineering students.

He gave an overview of the Indian Army and its contribution to the nation. He motivated the students to join the Indian Army if they have passion for the same.

The session was on the topic Career Prospects in the Armed Forces and SSB preparation. He emphasised the importance of communication skills and role of an engineer in Indian Defence. He briefed the role of the army officers, journey in the army, the selection process and training that one undergoes.

Introduction of the Mentor:

Mrs. Ronnie Merin George is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. She has 5 years of industrial experience as a software engineer as well as 6 years of teaching experience. During her tenure with various software companies, she got opportunities to develop projects using Java related technologies and databases. Her area of expertise includes Java, J2EE and Machine learning. She did her B.tech from MG University, Kottayam and M.tech from VTU, Belagavi.

Introduction of the Mentees:
• Gagan Prakash J is from Mangaluru. He pursued his 10th from St. Aloysius English Medium School and PUC from Dr. NSAM Pre-university College, Mangaluru. He had participated in Roboquest event conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He is a district level swimmer. His hobbies include photography and drawing. He aspires to become a successful engineer and also wants to do higher studies.
• Bhavya is from Bhatkal. She pursued her 10th from GHS Gorte. She did her PUC from SDM PU College, Ujire. Her hobbies include drawing and reading novels. She aspires to become a successful software engineer.
• Srajana is from Kundapura. She pursued her 10th from Govt. High School, Brahmavara and PUC from Viveka PU College, Kota. Her hobbies include dancing and listening to music. She aspires to become a successful software engineer.
• Punyashree G Bhatt is from Sullia. She pursued her 10th from St. Ann’s English Medium School and PUC from Vivekananda Pre University College, Puttur. Her hobbies include dancing and painting. She completed junior grade exam in classical dance, took a professional course of films, gave many programs during various festivals and also completed junior grade exam in drawing. She aspires to become a successful electronics engineer.
• Amith Bhat D is from Kasargod. He pursued his10th from Navajeevana Higher Secondary School, Perdala and PUC from Vivekananda PU College, Puttur. His hobbies include reading novels, searching web for new scientific discovery and advancement. He aspires to become a successful E&C engineer.
• K Rahul Bhat is from Bantwal. He pursued his 10th from Vittal Jaycees English Medium School and PUC from Vivekananda PU College, Puttur. His hobbies include photography and drawing. He aspires to become a successful electronics & communication engineer.
