Prior to his elevation as Managing Director & CEO, he was the Executive Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce. Mr. Rajkiran Rai G is a graduate in Agricultural Science and also a Certified member of Indian Institute of Bankers. He has more than three decades of rich banking experience including heading Industrial Finance Branch, Regions and Zonal Offices. He started his career as an Agricultural Finance Officer in Central Bank of India. He was also serving on the Board of Canara, HSBC, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Life Insurance Co. Ltd.

Chairman urged the students to keenly observe the personality of Mr. Rajkiran and then the position he holds. He acknowledged that Mr. Rai is one of the very few contemporaries of his who achieved the goal as planned with utmost Clarity, Dedication and Commitment. He said Mr. Rai is a perfect example of attaining success in multi-disciplinary field - Education in Agricultural Science and Excellence in Banking Sector. He referred to Mr. Rai as a custodian of crores of money belonging to people. In an interactive session, Mr. Rajkiran Rai G expressed how happy he was to address the Young India who is closer to being a CEO as they are MBAs. He answered queries of the students giving powerful messages for them to inculcate during the course of MBA studies.

Inauguration of Student Council for the Academic Year 2019-20 Sahyadri Student Council for the Academic Year 2019-20 was inaugurated on 12th October 2019 by Mr. Abhinandan Shetty, Former District Governor, Rotary International who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The inaugural commenced with the opening remarks by Chairman, Mr.Manjunath Bhandary who spoke on the importance, roles and relevance of student council and that their involvement in the council can improve their leadership skills. The Chief Guest then inaugurated the student council by watering the plant. This was followed by the distribution of sache and rose to the heads of council as a symbolic gesture of initiation. Our Principal, Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte lead the council members through oath.

He mentioned that we live in the world given to us by someone and its our duty to give our next generation the better world. He also emphasized on turning the failure as the stepping stone for success.

‘Cricket Tournament’ organized by Friendship Cup, Mangaluru at Sahyadri River-Side Cricket Ground Friendship Cup, Mangaluru had organized a ‘Cricket Tournament’ on 12th Oct’19 at Sahyadri River-side Cricket Ground. The Chief Guests for the event were Smt P V Bharathi, MD & CEO of Corporation Bank; Shri Rajkiran Rai G, MD & CEO of Union Bank of India; Shri J Packirisamy, MD & CEO of Andhra Bank and Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman-Bhandary Foundation. Other dignitaries present on the dais were Mr. D K Garg, Executive Director of Union Bank of India; Mr. Birupaksha Mishra, Executive Director, Corporation Bank; Mr. Vijay Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer of Corporation Bank; Mr. B Sreenivasa Rao, Field General Manager-Union Bank of India, Bengaluru; Mr. Chandramohan Reddy, General Manager, Andhra Bank. The organizer of the event in his introductory speech mentioned the motive of organizing this tournament. The participating teams for the event were Union Bank of India, Corporation Bank and Andhra Bank.

MBA Dept organizes a Discussion on Union Budget 2019-20

VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throwball Tournament organised at Sahyadri VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throwball Tournament organised at Sahyadri Dept of Business Administration-MBA organized a Discussion on the Union Budget 2019-20 on 11th October, 2019. The students undertook various sectors and analyzed the positive and negative aspects of the budget. Dr. Wajeeda Bano, Department of Economics at Mangalore University, briefed about the budget from an economist’s point of view. She also stressed on the fact that as a responsible citizen of the nation we have to analyze a budget from the point of an economist and financial expert rather than saying a budget is good or bad. Nation comes first and as citizens we should help the government in achieving the vision of our country by implementing the programs and schemes in a better manner. This programme was organized to analyze the various programmes and schemes announced in Budget 2019-20 presented by Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman aimed at promoting agriculture, industry, services, international trade, etc. and generate employment and spur the growth in the economy.

Gorabal, Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department and the Chief Guest Ms. Samyuktha Prabhu (Current GirlScript Regional Head of Karnataka) under the banner of MHRDs Institutional Innovation Council-Sahyadri.

ACM Sahyadri is the first chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery in Sahyadri. During the leadership talk by the Chief Guest on "Opportunities and Career through ACM", Ms. Samyuktha gave a glimpse of the functioning of ACM-W Chapter Manipal, different events that can be hosted by the ACM Chapters, various scholarships available through ACM, how to build a perfect resume, benefits of ACM chapters and many more. The website of ACM Sahyadri i.e., acmsahyadri.cf was also launched during the event.

First Year Engineering students to participate in 'Concetto-19' at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dhanbad, Jharkhand A total of 28 first year engineering students of Clan Udbhav will be participating in ‘Concetto-19’, a Technical Fest to be held during 17th to 20th Oct’19 at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dhanbad, Jharkhand. They are mentored by Mr. Vaibhav Shetty from Second Year Computer Science & Engineering. The students will be participating in Death Race, Flag Your Win events.

Dr. Shamanth Rai is Associate Professor and Head of Dept. of Information Science & Engineering. He has pursued his Bachelor of Engineering from PACE, Mangaluruand M.Tech and PhD from IIIT-Allahabad. He has over 11 years of teaching experience which includes four years of research experience. His research area includes wireless networks, distributed databases, IoT etc. He has published various research articles in reputed SCI journals and IEEE conferences. He has also published a book chapter in Taylor & Francis. He is also serving as reviewer for various SCI journals and conferences.

• Manasa Rao K is from Bejai, Mangaluru. She pursued her SSLC from Ladyhill Victoria Girl’s High school, Mangaluru and PUC from Sharada Pre University College, Mangaluru.
