Ms. Fiona D'Souza from the Dept. of Information Science & Engineering was recruited by Semnox Solutions Pvt Ltd. for the position of Development Stream in the Campus Recruitment Drive held on 9th Sep’19.
Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication - Center of Excellence (CoE) Facility at Sahyadri Campus
On the account of Innovation Day Campaign and 88th birth anniversary celebration of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management (SCEM) in association with Research Design Lab (RDL) Pvt.Ltd and under the banner of Sahyadri Institute Innovation Council (IIC) inaugurated the in-house Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Fabrication Lab Center of Excellence (CoE). PCB an essential component of all electronic devices, gadgets, Mobile, Laptop, TV, UPS, etc. PCB integrates various components to make the complete product. To date, students of SCEM for the projects and RDL for proof of concept (POC) had to depend on external agencies for realizing the circuit which consumes time, cost and efforts.
On this occasion Prof. Dr. Manjappa, Director of Research and Consultancy & President of IIC; Prof. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal inaugurated the PCB lab facility and conveyed their best wishes to all the stakeholders in the campus. Mr. Raghavendra G Shetty, Founder and CEO, RDL Technologies; Dr. Ashwath Rao, HOD-ECE and Dr. Anush Bekal, In-charge Industry Connect & Vice President of IIC along with staffs of RDL and students of SCEM were present during the occasion.
This lab will enable idea to rapid prototyping for both single and double side PCB’s in less than 30 minutes and facilitate Industry Connect Program to provide hands-on experience with PCB fabrication. Additionally, this facility will help RDL reduce POC delivery time and improve customer response and satisfaction.
MHRD’s Sahyadri Institute Innovation Council (IIC) Meeting held
The first meeting of the Sahyadri Institute Innovation Council (IIC) which was inaugurated last month for the Academic Year 2019-20 was held in the presence of Head of Institute – Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte; President of IIC – Dr. Manjappa Sarathi; Vice-President of IIC – Dr. Anush Bekal and the rest of the Council Members on 16th Oct’19. The Calendar of Events planned for this academic year was discussed along with the Roles & Responsibilities of each Council Member of IIC.

“India First Leadership Talk Series” LIVE streamed at Sahyadri
Institute Innovation Council of Sahyadri, established by the Ministry of Human Resources Department (MHRD), organized a LIVE streaming of “India First Leadership Talk Series” on 12th Oct’19. The session was delivered by Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The theme of the Talk Series was “Innovation for Resurgent India”.
Faculty members and students attended this live session.
Dr. Pokhriyal began his talk on the importance of time management. He explained to the audience that there is no substitute for time management, whatsoever. If one needs to succeed, one needs to manage time effectively.
Moving ahead, questions like the importance of leadership skills and what exactly are leadership skills, were addressed. This indeed helped everyone present, to understand the term leader and leadership in depth.
Dr. Pokhriyal also shared his daily schedule with the audience and highlighted the importance of writing in his life. He encouraged everyone to find out that one thing which motivates them and very beautifully explained why and how one needs to stay motivated.
The current scenario in the education system was discussed with special emphasis on practical learning and the need to produce more and more entrepreneurs as compared to the managers.
The talk proved to be of great help to all present there. It provided a vision, motivation and a will to achieve anything and everything in the coming days and make our nation a better place to live in.
“Dotnet core and Multithreading” - Industry Expert Talk
The Dept. of Information Science & Engineering organized an industry expert talk for the third year students on 12th Oct’19. Mr. Vasudevan, Software Engineer, RSA, Bengaluru, was the resource person. He has an industry experience of 4 years.
Mr. Vasudevan took up a session on “Dotnet core and Multithreading”. He briefed the students regarding the current industry needs, importance of good practices in programming and new project ideas. He gave a glimpse of the projects he is currently undertaking at RSA. He also stressed on the fact that learning is a never-ending process and called on the students to inculcate the habit of learning new things.
First Year Engineering students to participate in 'ATMOS-19' at Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani, Hyderabad
A total of 21 First Year Engineering students of ‘Clan Udgam’ will be participating in ‘ATMOS-19’, Technical Fest to be held during 18th to 20th Oct’19 at Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani - Hyderabad.
The team is mentored by Kiran Kumar and Vinay Kumar of Second Year Electronics & Communication Engineering. The students will be participating in events such as Law Follower, I-Navigator and Sequential Co-op.
Sahyadrians secure First Place in Folk Dance Competition organized by Infosys

Mentor-Mentee System at Sahyadri
Department: Mechanical Engineering
Introduction of Mentor:
Dr. Ravichandra K.R. is currently working as Dean - Industry Connect and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. Prior to this, he has worked as the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at Nilai University, Malaysia. He did obtain his Bachelor’s Degree in Automobile Engineering from Kuvempu University; his Master’s Degree of Engineering in Manufacturing from University of Malaya, Malaysia. He pursued PhD from University Technology Malaysia on the topic Low Carbon Emission Vehicles. He is an academician with fourteen years of teaching and four years of industrial experience. He is active in professional bodies like Institute of Engineers Malaysia, Society of Automotive Engineers, Member of Indian Society for Technical Education and International Association of Engineers. His field of interest are Lithium Ion battery for heavy applications, Renewable Energy Sources, Sustainable Engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
He has vast exposure on teaching and learning skills in applying Outcome Based Education, Blooms Taxonomy, Continuous Quality Improvement under the regulations of ABET and Washington Accord.
Introduction of the Mentees:
• Prathvichandra K. is from Mangaluru. He pursued his SSLC from St. Aloysius PU College, and PUC from Sharada PU College. His hobbies are volleyball and sketching. He has represented Taluk level and National Level in Volleyball. Other sports include Table Tennis and Basket Ball. His ambition is to work in Merchant Navy based company, namely Anglo Eastern.
• Umer Mohiuddin is from Jammu and Kashmir. He pursued his secondary schooling from Government HightSchoo, Britny and his Pre University from Government Higher Secondary School Diaglam, Ananthnag District. He is passionate in both outdoor and indoor sports like Cricket, Volleyball and Carrom. He did represent his school in a district level volleyball competition. His ambition is to serve the government and is planning to take up IES Exam in future.
• Abhishek K. is from Mangaluru. He pursued his Secondary and Pre-University from St. Aloysius PU College. He is passionate about creative art like drawing and pencil sketching. He also plays outdoor games like Cricket and Volleyball and among indoor games he has a particular interest at playing chess. His career ambition is to work as an Aerospace Engineer.
• Muhamad Rameez is from Puttur. He pursued his Secondary and Pre-University from St. Philomena PU College, Puttur. His hobby is to learn languages. He can speak more than five languages. He is good in Cricket and Chess. His career ambition is to work in automotive industry as Design Engineer.
• Sohan S. is from Mangaluru. He pursued his secondary schooling from NITK EMS and Pre-University from Mahesh PU College. His hobby is to play football and other outdoor games. His ambition in life is to serve under Indian Navy.

Breast Cancer Awareness Talk for Faculty
On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - October, Sahyadri College NSS Unit and Sahyadri Women’s Cell in association with A.J. Hospital and Research Center And A.J. Cancer Institute, Mangaluru will be organizing Breast cancer awareness talk by Dr. Rachan Shetty K.S., Consultant Medical Oncologist, A.J. Hospital and Research Center, Mangaluru, on 17th October, 2019 from 4:15 pm to 5:30 pm, at the Ground Floor Seminar Hall. The talk is organized for our female teaching and non-teaching faculty.
