Rashtriya Ekta Diwas observed at Sahyadri
In commemoration of the Birth anniversary of Shree Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was observed. To mark the day, the students and faculty alike took a pledge of unity.
The students took an oath to contribute to the unity of the nation and safeguard its internal security, thereby building a nation that envisioned by the great leader.
Civil Engineering students bagged Overall Championship at PRAVARTHANA – 2K19 held in PES Institute of Technology & Management, Shivamogga
Final and pre-final year students of Civil Engineering took part in various competitions at ‘Pravarthana – 2K19’, an intercollegiate technical fest organized by PES Institute of Technology & Management, Shivamogga on 24th & 25th October 2019.
Mr. Ajay K. of 7th Semester & Mr. Vignesh Shetty of 5th Semester topped the Technical Quiz and Mr. Kaushal B. & Mr. Harshith D. Poojary of 7th Semester bagged the first place in ‘Best Architecture’ event, thereby grabbing the overall championship.
MBA-HR Students conduct Resume Building Workshop for the 1st year MBAs
In Recruitment & Selection subject of MBA–HR Specialization, a Practical Assignment was given to the students to carry out the entire recruitment & selection process for the 1st year MBAs. As a part of this assignment, during the 1st phase, a Workshop on ‘Resume Building’ was facilitated by the 2nd MBA-HR students for their juniors. The objective was to impart the Do’s and Don’ts in a Resume and to develop a standard resume for future prospects.
Future Skill Group-Cyber Security conducted its 5th Event
Cyber Security Future Skill Club, under the banner of Centre of Excellence Cyber Security conducted its 5th event on 25th Oct’19. Prof. Naithik S.T., Dept. of Information Science & Engineering and Manager – CoE, Cyber Security facilitated the event.
In his presentation he briefed about various digital payments. He also gave insights into the digital payment technologies and security measures to be taken on the digital payments.
Article of a Ph.D Research Scholar published in Journal “Pattern Recognition Letters” (Elsevier)
A Research article entitled" Evaluating the performance of face sketch generation using generative adversarial networks" authored by Mr. Sannidhan M.S., Ph.D Research Scholar, Dept of Computer Science & Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Ananth Prabhu G., Professor, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering has been published online in an Elsevier Journal "Pattern Recognition Letters" volume 128 2019.
Highlights:
Recognition of sketches based on photos of an individual is non-trivial, as there are differences between the domain features of a sketch and a photo.
To streamline this process, this article presents a methodology for generating a colored photo from a sketch, which can then be used for identification using a variety of classification techniques.
Implementation of the proposed method involves a trained Convolution Neural Network for sketch generation paired with a conditional Generative Adversarial Network's pix2pix model for color photo generation.
Experimental results of the work are validated using standard datasets, and the proposed model achieved a minimum average rate of 65% similarity index value with a training efficiency of more than 98%.

Ms. Kavyashree M.P. is currently working as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. She obtained her B.E degree from Vishveswarayya College of Engineering, Bengaluru and M.Tech in Remote Sensing and GIS from National Institute of Technology (NITK), Surathkal. She has 6 years of teaching experience and is with Sahyadri since the last 5 years. Her research interests are Remote Sensing technologies, Water Resource Management and Surveying.
Introduction of Mentees:
• Shree Hari Haran T. is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling from Milagres High School, and PUC from St. Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. During his schooling, he got enrolled in NCC (JD) and was a Rank Flight Sergeant. In PUC, he got enrolled in NCC (SD). He took part in 3 Vayu Sainik Camps (VSC) held at Belagavi, for a period of 30 days. His hobbies are Yakshagana and playing Cricket. He participated in Micro Explorer & Water Rocket events held at NIT, Kurukshethra and won 2nd Place in Water Rocket Competition. He aspires to start his own civil engineering company with trending aspects.
• Aman Usman is from Mangaluru. He pursued his schooling from St. Aloysius High School and PUC from St. Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. During his schooling he had participated and won prizes on Collage making and Scratch Competitions held in PACE. He participated in Micro Explorer & Water Rocket events held at NIT, Kurukshethra and won 2nd Place in Water Rocket competition. His aspiration is to become a good civil engineer and design economical houses and provide other facilities to the poor people.
• Kirtha S. Shetty is from Mangaluru. He studied PUC at St. Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru. His hobbies include sports, mainly swimming. He has participated in National Level Swimming Competition. His aspiration is to become an IPS officer.
• Dhanush R. Salian is from B.C. Road. He studied PUC at SVS PU College, Bantwal. His hobbies include sports, mainly Kabaddi. He had participated in Kabaddi at District level and at Taluk level he participated in Volley Ball. His aspiration is to become good sportsman.
