Prestigious Microsoft EduKinect Yappon Event Held in the Campus

The Microsoft Edukinect Yappon - 2014 event was held for the second time in the Campus. A total of 297 students participated from various branches of Engineering and other disciplines. Yappon is a 24 hour program, where a team has to build the Microsoft app. 80 teams participated in this event and developed 94 Windows Applications. Last year, 80 groups were formed out of 186 students, developed a total of 62 apps.

The top 3 teams received a cash award, T shirts and certificates, and one team received a consolation award. And the rest of the participants received participation certificates.

The first topper developed 1 Windows app and 3 Windows games (monster Attack, Dark City Run and Jelly rush). They bagged a cash prize of rupees five thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Priyanka Shetty, Chaithra Shetty, Shreyanka Shetty, and Sangeetha K. of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The second topper developed 5 Windows games (Dodge IT, Facto-o-Tree, Have Eat, Sky Marble and Anglo Fence). They bagged a cash prize of rupees three thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Ankit Pratap Singh, and Gouse Khan, of the Department Information Science & Engineering and Atif Khan and Ranjith Ram M. of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The third topper developed one Windows app (HelpEd). They bagged a cash prize of rupees two thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Preetham and Sona Krishnan of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Kruthi K. K. and Anvitha U. S. of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The consolation prize winners developed one Windows App (Namaste Mangalore). They bagged T-shirts and certificates. The team members were K. Swathi, M, S, Nazriya Begum, Gunavathi S. Anchan, and Deepali Chandrahas Kumble of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. Sri Mrityunjay Bhadauria, CEO and Co-Founder of Edukinect gave away the cash awards and certificates to the winners of the contest.

FLAMES Student Association Inaugurated

FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students), an Association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Students for the academic year 2014-15 was inaugurated by Dr. Dilip Kumar, Principal, Sri Devi Institute of Technology, Mangalore and Mr. Prakash R. Hiremath, Managing Director, Neo Valves Industries was the Guest of Honor. Student Executive Committee Members Mr. Lawrence Roystan D’Souza, welcomed the gathering and Mr. Anmol Anil Rao gave an overview about the activities of the Association conducted for the academic year 2013-14.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. Professor S. S. Balakrishna, President of the Association and HoD of the Department enlightened the gathering with his enthusiastic talk on different meanings of “FLAMES”. Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice Principal, gave a brief talk on student-faculty relationships and how it helps in individual growth. Mr. Shreyas Shetty, student Executive Committee Member introduced the new Office bearers and welcomed them. Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean-Academics, Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator & Dean-Placements were present on the occasion.

The models such as the bus, aeroplane, and the rocket were prepared and decorated by the students and appreciated by everyone. The achievers were felicitated by the Chief Guest and the students showcased their talents through a cultural program.




Dr. Subhash C. Yaragal Addresses Students of Civil Engineering

As a part of Engineers’ Day, the Department of Civil Engineering & ACCE, Mangalore, organised a technical talk for the students and faculty of the Department of Civil Engineering.

Dr. Subhash C. Yaragal, Professor Department of Civil Engineering, NITK, Surathkal was the resource person. He was been accompanied by Er. Muralidhar Shastri, Convener, ACCE, Mangalore Center, Er. Prashanth, Convener of Techno Week 2014, Er. Prem Sachin and Technical Advisor Ashwil.

Dr. Subhash C. Yaragal spoke on sustainability which he defined as “live and let live” and about global warming and how cement and concrete industry can contribute to reduction of co2 emission. He also threw light on fresh concrete and why it is popular, the strength parameters and concrete mix design details.

Sahyadri Talent

Niveda, Semester I, Civil Engineering, is a trained keyboard player. She has participated and has won many prizes in various school, sub-district and district level Instrumental Music Competitions. She has won few prizes in Pencil Sketch competition and she is also an upcoming athlete and won third prize in Volleyball Tournament held at the school Level.
