Agents of Social Change

A talk on 'Agents of Social Change' as a part of Social Innovation Projects for the first year students was delivered by Mr. Guruduth Shenoy, Project Manager-Content Development, Accenture, Bangalore, Mr. Namdev Shenoy, Associate Director - Treasury & Banking at Mindtree, Bangalore and Mrs. Deepali Shenoy, facilitator, CMCA, Bangalore. They stressed on the importance of co-existing based on concepts like Care, Co-operate and Communicate. They shared examples of a few social innovators who were able to bring about some change in the environment that they lived in and also shared a live example of social innovative work that they have personally carried about in the city of Bangalore through a social awareness campaign named 'Ugly Indian' and through a civic awareness workshop that they conduct for Govt. school children in Bangalore.

Engineer’s Day: Sir M Visvesvaraya the Engineer Remembered

On the occasion of Engineer’s Day the College paid homage to Sir. M. Visvesvaraya. The Principal, the HODs, the faculty, the staff and the students showered flowers on the statue of Sir. MV and remembered Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his 155th birthday.

These were the words of the greatest engineer India has ever seen, the engineer whose birthday is celebrated as “Engineers Day” all over India on the 15th of September every year.

Sir M Visvesvaraya was a man who excelled in various fields. He is remembered today as an engineer par excellence, a highly respected statesman and a visionary thinker.

He is known to be the greatest engineer of all times, who with his vision and dedication in the field of engineering made some exceptional contributions to India. Owing to his contribution he was honored with the highest state award of India, the “Bharat Ratna”, in the year 1955.

He was the chief designer of the flood protection system designed and built for the city of Hyderabad, as well as the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mysore which created the largest reservoir in Asia at that time.

Right from the very first day of his service, Sir M.V. demonstrated his flair towards engineering and the building of the nation. Within a decade, he gained reputation as the most able engineer who could be entrusted with the most complex problems. The government even published articles in the leading newspapers praising his dedication and admired his work.

Sir Visvesvaraya was knighted as the Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire (KCIE) by the British for his contributions to the society in the year 1915, he was also awarded with the independent India’s greatest honor, The Bharat Ratna in 1955 for his relentless work in the fields of engineering and education. He is also the recipient of several honorary doctoral degrees from eight universities in India.

He dedicated his life towards the building of the nation and he epitomized all the qualities of an ideal engineer throughout his life. Hence, today we honour this great luminary by celebrating his birthday as ‘Engineer’s Day’.

J Sanjeev Kumar Speaks on Corporate Expectations from Fresh Graduates

J Sanjeev Kumar, Senior HR Manager, TESCO, Bangalore, delivered a guest lecture to the MBA students of Finance, HR and Core Finance on the topic `Corporate Expectations from Fresh Graduates.’ He spoke on the changing work environment in the corporate world and growing expectation from the fresh knowledge workers. He also touched on key skills a candidate must possess while entering into the new world of business.
