Dr. Steven L. Fernandes interacts with Dr. Anuradha Agarwal, Principal Research Scientist, MIT, USA

Sahyadri wins Cash Prize from VTU for Excellence in Sports Dr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, currently pursuing his Post-Doctoral Research at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alabama Birmingham, USA interacted with Dr. Anuradha Agarwal, Principal Research Scientist, Microphotonics Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Dr. Anuradha Agarwal’s work has focused on the technologies for the foundational components of future electronic-photonic chips including polysilicon waveguides, LEDs, couplers, and optical buffers. She has been involved in several research projects at the Microphotonics Center at MIT, since its inception and she has more than 25 years of experience working at MIT.

Her prior research includes the integration of active and passive optical components on silicon, using standard Si-CMOS fabrication processes. As a part of this research, she developed, evaluated, and later confirmed, the utility of polycrystalline silicon material for waveguide applications. Her current work centers on the mid-IR (MIR) regime. Her work on MIR materials and devices is creating a planar, integrated, Si-CMOS-compatible microphotonics platform which will enable on-chip imaging and sensing applications. Prior to coming to MIT she received her doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, where she investigated the spatial extent of point defect interactions in silicon. With Dr. Anuradha Agarwal's cross-disciplinary training, industrial experience, and background in Physics, Electrical Engineering, and Materials Science, she has successfully connected basic sciences with relevant applications, using integrated devices that are manufacturable on a large scale.

Dr TN Prakash Kammardi, Chairman, Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission addressed MBA students

Dr TN Prakash Kammardi Dr. TN Prakash Kammardi, Chairman, Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission, Bengaluru addressed the MBA students on new paradigms in agriculture. He emphasized on the fact that not many post graduates would seek agriculture as a career avenue as there is huge demarcation between industry & agriculture. The major difference between agriculture and industry is based on the emphasis on land, labour, capital & organization. He called agriculture as the biological industry. He said that farmers are gambling with the monsoon & middle men. The need of the hour is to turn the young mind towards agriculture rather than industry only. He also stressed on ideas that will reduce our dependence on the nature. He was pointing towards bore wells, construction of big dams and use of available natural resources. He also enlightened the crowd with facts that government is trying its best to encourage the agricultural sector. Few of these are 100% government sponsored programme that work towards the welfare and creating strong knowledge in the subject area. Banks are offering loans on subsidised rate, Role of APMC in distribution and marketing of agricultural products.

Dr TN Prakash Kammardi Mr. Kammardi focused on modernizing the agriculture and the status of agriculture is based on the following steps :
• Contract farming
• Cooperatives
• Farmer producer companies
• Strengthening the coolective bargaining capacity of farmers.
