Awareness Programme on Substance Abuse, Anti-Ragging and Cyber Crime Laws for the First-Year Engineering Students Awareness Programme on Substance Abuse, Anti-Ragging and Cyber Crime Laws for the First-Year Engineering Students Department of Academics and NSS division of Sahyadri College in collaboration with The District Police Department organized a much-needed awareness talk for the First year engineering students on issues like Substance Abuse, Anti-Ragging, and Cyber Crime Laws. Mr. K. Rama Rao, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangalore South Sub-Division and Mr. Bhajantri, Inspector, Mangalore Rural Police Station addressed students about the evils of Substance abuse, Ragging, and Cyber Crime. Emphasizing on substance abuse problem, in his speech, Mr. Rama Rao shared his experiences of the cases he handled relating to drugs and revealed that 90% of the time, the people involved in such cases will be students. He explained the Acts such as NDPA and various Indian Penal Codes applicable for the crimes relating to drug abuse and ragging. He stressed the role of students and teachers in curbing the menace of substance abuse, ragging, and Cyber Crimes. He also explained the various types of substances that are abused and its physical and psychological impact on the students. Talking about the cyber crimes, he explained about CDR (Call Details Records) and how mobile phones can be used to solve the crime and track the culprits. He said that Drugs weakens the society and those involved in it are doing a crime against the society. Mr. Bhajantri spoke about the effects of a substance on an individual’s mind and body. He made the students understand their purpose of attending college and how they must choose to lead their life. Dr. Rajesha, Dean- Academics explained the mechanism put forth by Sahyadri to curb substance abuse, ragging and Cyber Crime. He spoke about the college Anti-ragging committee and squad. He urged the students to report to the committee if any incidence of ragging that may happen to them or their friends. Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, Principal, in his presidential remarks, urged the students to unite against the evils of Substance abuse, Anti-Ragging, and Cybercrimes. Mr. Devadas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation graced the programme as the Guest of Honour.

UG Students of Vivekananda College Puttur came to Sahyadri for Start-Up visit & Hands-On Training in ComputersUG Students of Vivekananda College Puttur came to Sahyadri for Start-Up visit & Hands-On Training in Computers A total of 95 students from Vivekananda College Puttur came to Sahyadri to visit the in-house Start-Ups and industries in Sahyadri Campus and also get Hands-On Training in MS Excel and Typing. To begin with, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA addressed the students and gave them a brief background of the nature of start-ups and industries that Sahyadri houses. Later, students were taken round the campus to visit the industries and also clarify their doubts with the industry heads. Post Lunch, Prof. Sushma V, Dept. of Business Administration trained the students on Typing Skill as it is one of the key skills to enhance their employability. She also introduced them to the Typing Tool available online which can further bridge the gap in Typing Skill. Later, Prof. Ramesh KG, Dean-Strategic Planning facilitated a session on MS Excel. The students were accompanied by four of their faculty members who were also a part of the day-long event.

Achievements of a First Year Engineering Student

Samanvi B Suvarna, a student of First Semester Information Science & Engineering, is an All-Rounder. She has participated in Basketball tournament held at National Level and won prizes. She has also participated in several Throw Ball and Hand Ball tournaments held at State Level and won prizes. She is not only a sports person but has also been an active participant in cultural activities.

Parents interaction programme for the parents of lateral entry students

CATAPULT 1.0 An interaction for the parents of students who have joined lateral entry system was held in Sahyadri campus. The parents were taken for a visit to the start-up companies established in the campus and also to the departments. Mr. Manujanth Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, spoke to the parents and explained about their role in helping students in their education. He explained about the various student-centric activities and initiatives undertaken at the institution. He spoke about the importance of internship and placement training and urged the parents to extend their support in this regards. Mr. Bhandary shared the challenges that students would face in the current competitive scenario and added that being prepared for it is the only best solution. He explained to the parents about industry connect, research projects, newsletters, e-buzz and other initiatives. Post this, Principal – Dr. R Srinivasa Rao Kunte explained about the rules and regulations that the students have to follow in the college.

Tomorrow at Sahyadri

Five reputed universities from the United States will be visiting Sahyadri for student interaction on 'Higher Studies Opportunities at US’.
New York University: New York University–Tandon School of Engineering, George Washington University, Keck Graduate Institute, Kennesaw State University and University of South Florida would be visiting along with the delegates from Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world’s leading ranking agency.
Interested students are invited to attend the session at 03:00 PM.
