Atmanirbhar Project (Make in India) at Sahyadri – Turbocharger

caliper Sahyadri's Mechanical Department & in-house Sahyadri Industry, Caliper Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd. are awarded with several Atmanirbhar (Make in India) Projects. In the journey of self-reliance, Sahyadri is leading the Dakshina Kannada Region by actively engaging with Defence & Nuclear Sectors in many projects. Mechanical Engineering students of Sahyadri will have great experience in being part of this epitome of learning & participating in the nation's prestigious projects.
Bharat Earth Movers Ltd, Mysuru who are supplying Defence vehicles to carry arms & ammunitions in the battle field has given the responsibility of ingeniously developing "Turbo Chargers" for their Defence vehicles. These are presently imported from Europe. Complete product right from designing to manufacturing will be carried out at Sahyadri in collaboration with faculty, students & industry experts.
A turbocharger, colloquially known as a turbo, is a turbine-driven, forced induction device that increases an internal combustion engine's efficiency and power output by forcing extra compressed air into the combustion chamber.

Faculty Members from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering successfully defended the Proposal submitted for DST- SERD Research Grant

SERD The project titled - “An Experimental Investigations of Hybrid Cooling System using Phase Change Material and Nano fluid for PV Panel” by Dr. Ravichandra K.R, Head-Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and the Principal Investigator and Prof. Shankara Murthy H. M, the Co-investigator for the project was shortlisted for presentation to the Expert Committee under the Department of Science & Technology (DST). This project was submitted under “Affordable Solar Innovation Stream (ASIS) -Solar Energy Research and Development (SERD-2019) Scheme” and Dr. Ravichandra has completed his presentation on 9th Sep’ 2020 before the Expert Committee. The main objective of the project is to develop a compact hybrid cooling system for Solar Energy Extraction PV Panel to enhance their conversion efficiency.

An Online Workshop titled - "Build your Portfolio" was organized and volunteered by Mozilla Club and Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) on 13th Sep’ 2020. The Workshop was aimed at teaching and giving the hands on experience on building and hosting the portfolio website for the students of all branches of Engineering.
The Workshop was on Building the Portfolio using HTML, CSS in the desired Code Editor (such as vscode) and also hosting the site on Github Pages. The session was facilitated by Mr. Fawaz Abid Hussain, Core Member, SOSC and a student of Second Year Computer Science & Engineering. Workshop saw participation from 93 students from 15 different colleges across Karnataka contributing to the success of the event.

Management & Principal Congratulate the NPTEL & MOOC Certified Students and Faculty members

In the period of January – July 2020, a total of 321 students and faculty members are certified by NPTEL & MOOC.
National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science. NPTEL as a project originated from many deliberations between IITs, Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) during the years 1999-2003. A proposal was jointly put forward by five IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Madras) and IISc for creating contents for 100 courses as web based supplements and 100 complete video courses, for forty hours of duration per course. Web supplements were expected to cover materials that could be delivered in approximately forty hours. Five engineering branches (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical) and core science programmes that all engineering students are required to take in their undergraduate engineering programme in India were chosen initially. Contents for the above courses were based on the model curriculum suggested by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the syllabi of major affiliating Universities in India.
Registration for NPTEL courses for the period July – Dec 2020 is open and last date to register for the courses is 21st Sep’ 2020. Course List is available in the following link.
