Summer Camp: Sambhrama-2014

Sambhrama-2014; a four-day summer camp for school children organized by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was flagged off at Holy Family Church School, Meremajal, by the lighting of the lamp. Mrs. Vrinda, Gramapanchayat President, Meremajal, Fr. James, Coordinator, Holy Family Church, Meremajal, Sister Elizabeth, Principal, Holy Family Church School, Mrs. Revathi, Headmistress, Abettu Govt. School, Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator, and Mrs. Shreelatha U. A., AAO, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management graced the occasion. The resource persons, Mr. Ramesh K.G., Assistant Professor-SG, Department of Business Administration, Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, Mrs. Ranjitha B. Assistant Professor, Department of English, Ms. Raksha, Placement in-charge and Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, were also present during the function. Sixty-two children from three schools participated in this camp. The summer camp began with some fun games and painting. Twelve students of the college helped as volunteers to conduct the camp.

Day 2: Sambhrama -2014
Day two of the Summer Camp; Sambhrama-2014 began with a prayer by the children. A recollection of the previous days teaching was done. Ms. Vidya Bhat Semester II D Section, conducted a yoga session for the students after which Mrs. Shreelatha U. A., A.A.O., engaged a session on public speaking and conducted group activities. Motivational videos were also screened for the children. Later, students prepared collage in groups and prepared a wall magazine using their own paintings. Post lunch, a session was engaged by Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, where students learnt craft work. In view of the celebrations to be held on the final day, students practiced for that day.

Sixty-two students participated in the Summer Camp with five volunteers from the college. The resource persons were Mr. Ramesh K. G., Assistant Professor-SG and Ms. Ankitha Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, Ms. Aurin Madtha, Student Welfare Officer (Academics), Mrs. Ranjitha B., Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Mr. Rakshith P. Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, were actively involved in the camp.

Day 3: Sambhrama -2014
Day three of the Summer Camp; Sambhrama-2014, began with a recollection of the previous days teaching. Ms. Vidya Bhat, Semester II D Section, conducted a yoga session for the students after which Mrs. Ranjitha B., Assistant Professor, Department of English, engaged a session on ‘Art of Living’ and conducted group activities. Later, Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, taught students Clay Modeling and Stick Art which was followed by preparation of collage in groups. Post lunch, a session on “Fun with Dance” was engaged by Ms. Rashmishree K. N. Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering and Ms. Ankitha Shetty Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration. Many action songs were taught by the camp coordinators. In view of the celebrations to be held on the final day, students practiced for that day.

Day 4: Sambhrama - 2014
Day four of the Summer Camp; Sambhrama-2014, began with a recollection of the previous days teaching. Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, taught Kite Making. Ms. Ankitha Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration and Ms. Aurin Madtha, SWO (Academic) engaged a session on Future Plan. Many action songs were taught by the camp coordinators.

Post lunch students were taken on a picnic to the Sahyadri campus. The valedictory program began with a dance ‘Bum Bum Bole…’ by the kids, the resource persons and few volunteers dressed in various Cartoon Characters. The events of Valedictory program such as Masters of the ceremony, Prayer song, Feedbacks, Vote of thanks everything was conducted by the children.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, delivered presidential address. He wished all the children a bright future. The same spirit, curiosity, interest, and creativity should continue throughout their life, he added. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean Academic, narrated a story and blessed them. Mrs. Vrinda, President, Grama Panchayat, Meremajal, and Mrs. Revathi, Head Mistress, Abbettu School, addressed the gathering. The day witnessed colorful, mind-blowing performance by the five groups of the camp – Mallige, Gulabi, Sevanthige, Sampige and Dasavala. Few faculty members, non teaching staff, parents and students were present on the occasion.

As a poem by the famous poet Mithali Charan Guptha Ghose, ‘Bar Bar Athi Hai, Madhur Yad Bachpan Teri……’, all the resource persons, volunteers of the college were fortunate to see their dream of reliving their childhood come true. The children from few Government Primary Schools enjoyed the fun filled learning process which taught them Craft, Action songs, Drawing, Painting and few Soft Skills.

Few faculty members came forward to sponsor lunch, books, pens, and juice during the entire four days of the camp.

Faculty members’ paper published

A paper entitled "Digital Library: Preservation Technology, Infrastructure, Issues and Challenges: A Theory", by Mrs. Bharathi K., Librarian, was published in the National Conference proceedings on Redefining Libraries in Electronic Age held at Visvesvaraya Technological University, "Jnana Sangama", Belgaum.

                  

Bon Voyage

Prof. B. N. Karkera, Adjunct Faculty, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, will be visiting the USA to attend the "GC9 Global NITK Alumni Meet" at San Francisco, scheduled for the 9th & 10th of May 2014 and will be travelling via Detroit. During his visit, he will meet Prof. Devdas Shetty, Ph.D., PE, Dean, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of the District of Columbia and discuss the possibility of exploring other options such as "Surface Acoustics of BodyPhone - ASHA"; "Instrumentation of FlexiServo" and "3D 'S' Escalator for Radiation-Vault-Maze of Medical Facilities."

Team DREAMERS, a group of enthusiastic Engineers have summed up their interest by capturing a scenic beauty of the college aerially in their video.

The team has already worked on aerial surveillance, unmanned aerial vehicles and also RC planes to study their behavior. An oath taking and awareness programme was held in the Campus. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal addressed the students. Students then took the oath as per the format sent by the Thulasi Maddeneni, CEO, Zilla Panchayat and president SVEEP Committee

Prajwal Shetty and Akshatha Rai, students of the Department of Master of Business Administration specializing in HR, attended a two-day HR fest "PINNACLE-2014", organized by Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore. They have won the First place in the HR/Business Quiz.

MBA students attend HR Conference



Students specializing in HR of the Department of Business Administration attended a two-day UGC sponsored HR Conference at Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore. They were accompanied by Ms. Sushma V., Assistant Professor, who also presented a paper in the same conference titled "Attrition & Retention strategies in BPO industry", co-authored by Dr. Vishal Samartha, Assistant Professor-SG.

Second year MBA students bid adieu

The students of the second year, Master of Business Administration, were bid adieu in a farewell function organised by the first year students. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, addressed the gathering. The Principal asked the students to be open for appraisal and to take it positively. Dr. A. P. Achar spoke about balancing personal and professional life.
