Bridge Course for SSLC students elicits good response

We are reaping the fruits of science from morning to evening said Mrs. Ramaa Bhandary, Head Mistress of SLNP High School, Panemangalore. She was addressing the students after inaugurating the two-day Bridge Course conducted for SSLC students. She stressed the importance of science at every stage of our life. She wished that someone from the group should contribute something special like Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. Another Chief Guest, Mrs. Vidya Shetty, Head Mistress of BEST English Medium School, B. C. Road urged the students to assimilate good values from the teachers. The function was presided over by Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. He advised the students to enjoy the process of learning in the student life. Further he told the students to ignore the comments people make and turn a deaf ear towards them, and only then greater heights in life can be reached. He wished the students a fruitful two days stay in Sahyadri.

Mr. Ananth Prabhu engaged the session on “Course options in Science stream of PUC”. Later, Mr. Johnson and his team gave a mesmerizing presentation of their Robotic & Aircraft Model. More than 200 students from different High Schools attended the programme. An inter-school Cricket Match for boys and Throwball matches for the girls was conducted in the afternoon. Mrs. Nithisha Rodrigues and her team conducted the matches.

The second day of the Bridge Course for SSLC students began with the exhilarating demonstration of Robotic & Aircraft Models by Mr. Johnson and his team. The students were offered a thrilling air display of RC Planes. They were provided valuable tips on making science models. Students were apprised of the unique opportunities provided at Sahyadri like participating in Science Conclave at IIIT – A, science model contests, paper presentation contests etc.

In the next session, Mr. Naveen S. A. Principal, Sahyadri P. U. College provided the students a clear-cut picture of PUC Science syllabi and offered an introduction to PCMB and PCMC courses. He illustrated the right approach needed to fare well in the exams.

Mrs. Surekha Adappa, Mathematics Faculty of Sahyadri P. U. College conducted the third session. She highlighted the important aspects of Maths curriculum and put the apprehensions of the students to rest by familiarizing them with effective study skills.

The two – day long Bridge Course came to an end with the exciting session of sports and games. The Semi – Finals and Finals of the Cricket tournament (boys) and the Finals of the Throwball matches (girls) were held in the afternoon.

‘Matha Jagrathi’ by Manthana’

‘Manthana’ (Our walk towards change); an association of likeminded Sahyadrians, performed a play act ‘Matha Jagrathi’ and distributed stickers and posters in Meramajal, Farangipete, B.C. Road and Sahyadri college entrance and students also stuck posters on the vehicles at the Toll Booth in Brahmarakotlu. Students sang songs like ‘Kurigalu Sir Kurigalu’, ‘Kurudu Kanchana Kuniyuthalithu’, ‘Otu Madadavaru Yaravre?’, and created awareness among people about the importance of vote and gave them information of NOTA (None of the above); option included in the election by the Supreme Court.

The team comprised of Mr. Naveen Pilar, Mrs. Ranjitha, Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Ms. Aurin Madtha, Mr. Vidya Shankar Coordinators, ‘Manthana’ and Bhavya, Spoorthi, Prajna Bhandary, Neeriksha, Anusha, Sambhav, Hezal Melita, Slifa, Anirudh, Rakshitha, Veekshitha, Students of Semester I.

Throughout the journey students were announcing and shouting slogans. They were also singing patriotic songs. The district health officer Dr. Shiv Kumar appreciated the students’ effort. “The management, the teachers and the students of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, who have joined their hands with the Government will be the role model for the rest”, he added and also provided some posters and stickers for this purpose and supported the students.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean Academic, Mrs. Shreelatha, A.A.O appreciated the work and wished good luck for the future programmes.

For the voters who have been lethargic to listen to the same old lectures/speeches, Play Act was helpful to create a maximum awareness and will definitely help to enhance the percentage of awareness in the ensuing election. Click here to view the photo gallery.




                  

Eight from Mechanical Engineering selected by JSW

Mr. Sudeep B. S., Mr. Lakshminarayan Shenoy, Mr. Mohammed Muntashir, Mr. Mohammed Thasleem, Mr. Nikhil Winston D'Souza, Mr. Shyamanth Shetty, Mr. Rohan Marcel D'Souza, and Mr. Sushanth Shetty K. of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, have been selected by JSW Steel Ltd., in the recently concluded recruitment drive held in the Campus.


MBA student wins first prize in paper presentation

Prajna A. and Ronson Sunil Menezes, Semester II, Department of Business Administration, participated in the Inter-Collegiate Paper Presentation on “Innovative Management Strategies in Global Context”, held at Poornaprajna Institute of Management, Udupi. Prajna A., won the first place and cash prize for her paper titled “Social entrepreneurship and social innovation in global business context.”

Faculty member presents research paper in national conference

Mr. Ramesh K. G., Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, presented a research paper titled "Corporate Social Responsibility – A Necessity For Sustainable Business Model", in the National Conference on “Business Sustainability through Social Value Addition”, held at the PG Department of Commerce and Management Studies, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore.

‘Matha Yuha’ by ‘Manthana’

‘Matha Yuha’, a drama performance by the children of Meramajal region on the Electoral Awareness was part of Sambhrama 2014, a summer camp, recently held in Meramajal village. Songs and Play act performances were staged because they were more effective than regular speeches and lectures.

Mr. Rakshith, Coordinator, ‘Manthana’(Our walk towards change); an association of likeminded Sahyadrians, said they are planning to conduct more such programmes to help every individual identify strengths, duties and rights.
