Seventh College Day Celebrated

The Seventh College Day Celebrations was inaugurated by Dr. N.A. Jnanesh, Member, Executive Council, VTU, Belgaum and Principal, KVG College of Engineering, Sullia.

In his inaugural speech, he appreciated the development and the infrastructure of the college. In a short span of seven years there has been tremendous growth, he said and congratulated the management and Sahyadri team. He briefed the importance of research in education. He congratulated all the achievers on their outstanding performance during the year. He also emphasized the importance of technical education and evolution of applied sciences. He urged the student community to leverage the Exposure, Experience , Expertise and Excellence which would enable them to meet the expectations of the society and Industry.

Dr. N.A. Jnanesh obtained his ME degree from the Karnataka University, Dharwad and his doctoral degree from Mangalore University. He is well travelled and has attended and presented papers in national and international seminars and conferences. Thirty undergraduate and ten postgraduate projects and two research candidates have been successfully guided by him.

Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice-Principal, delivered the presidential address and expressed his happiness on the occasion. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean Academic presented the annual report of the college. The heads of various councils presented their reports. Dr. A. P. Achar, Director MBA welcomed the gathering. Mr. Mohanjith Marla, Student Council Head spoke on the role of student council. The Academic Toppers, Best Outgoing Students of the under graduate and post graduate courses and The Council Heads for the year 2013-14 were felicitated.

Fun-filled innovative games were held in the Campus. It was followed by the cultural extravaganza by the students of the college.

World Earth Day

World Earth Day is celebrated every year as an annual event by the people all across the world on 22nd of April in order to increase the awareness among people about the environment safety as well as to demonstrate the environmental protection. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness among people about several environmental issues that surround the world today.

To help promote the day, ‘Manthana’- an association of likeminded Sahyadrians organized an oath taking and awareness programme with the visual presentation, poster making and group discussions in the campus.

It also stuck ‘World Earth Day’ posters in the campus and appealed students to turn off all electrical appliances at their home from 7 P.M to 8 P.M to save power and to save Mother Earth for our better future. The aim of celebrating the world earth day is to inspire the public for making better earth environment.

MechMania-14

MechMania-14, a fun filled day of activities was held in the Campus as a part of the annual activities of FLAMES (Association of Mechanical Engineering Students). The program was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Col. Nitteguttu Sharath Bhandary, Member, Permanent Lok Adalat, Mangalore, and has served for thirty years in the Indian Army. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean-Academics, Prof. M. N. Nayak, Dean-Placements, Prof. S.S. Balakrishna, HoD, and Staff-Student coordinators presided over the function.

The formal function was followed by a talk from the Chief Guest where he gave a detailed overview on what is Indian Army, what is its importance, how to join it, etc. This was followed by various competitions like Kite Fight, Gold Mining, Formula 1, Junkyard Genius, Station Relay etc. The prizes of the various events conducted in the last week like Lagori, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Kick Football were also given away. The highlight of the event was a special band performance by Avalanche Brakedown and a daredevil, breathtaking bike stunt performance by Warlocks. It was well appreciated by faculty and students alike.

Blood Donation Camp

The Department of Business Administration, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tejaswini Hospital, Mangalore, organised a Blood Donation Camp in the Campus. Dr. Suchitra Shetty, Pathologist, Tejaswini Hospital, inaugurated the Camp in the Sahyadri Auditorium. Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal, Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean-Academics and Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration, were present during the inaugural function. Dr. Suchitra Shetty spoke about the benefits of blood donation. 198 donors came forward to donate blood.




                  

Vice-Principal invited by Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology as resource person

Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice-Principal, has been invited by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Tumkur, to deliver technical talks in the one-week workshop on “Advances in IC Engines.”

Faculty member’s research paper in International Journal

A research paper titled, “Thermal and Mechanical Property Study of 1-( 2, 4-dichlorophenyl) -3-(4-dimethyl amino- phenyl)-2-Propenone –A New Nonlinear Optical Chalcone” authored by Mr. Navin N. Bappalige, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, has been published in the International Journal of Applied Physics Vol. 4, No. 1,( 2014),PP.1-4, with ISSN 2249-3174.

Faculty member invited as resource person

Mr. Ramesh K. G., Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, was invited by Alva's Education Foundation to deliver a guest lecture. He addressed the M. Com. students on the topic 'General Insurance Product Management.'

Divyashree N., of the Department of Master of Computer Applications, has been selected by Tayana Software Ltd., in the recently concluded pool campus recruitment drive held in the Campus.

Sahitha Kamath, of the Department of Information Science & Engineering, has been selected by IBM (Artech), in the interview process held at St. Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor.

JEE (Main) - 2014 in Sahyadri

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) – 2014, a computer based Online Test. A total of 187 candidates from all over the country sat for the exam.

JEE is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the basic subjects like Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. The JEE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to various Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India. It is a great honour for Sahyadri to conduct an exam of this kind.
