Special Lecture by Dr. Sundara Rajan, CPRI - Joint Director

Dr. Sundara Rajan, Joint Director, Central Power Research Institution (CPRI) gave a special lecture on avenues of funding in CPRI to the researchers and faculty members of Sahyadri. The special lecture was initiated by Principal, Dr. Umesh Bhushi giving a prelude of the function.

Dr. Sundara Rajan explained the funding mechanism and route map of getting funds through CPRI. He stressed about team work in research and importance of collaborative works and said that research design, money and collaboration is more important in research and development. Basic sciences play a major role in research and the CPRI gives importance for the team with interdisciplinary approach. He also stressed about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). He congratulated the chairman and management for creating the best infrastructure and appreciated the attitude of faculty and research culture at Sahyadri. Dr. Sundara Rajan also deeply appreciated the beauty of the Campus and its ambience.

Earlier, Prof. C. Ranganathaiah, Research-Director in his introductory speech, spoke about the increasing research strength and research activities of Sahyadri with the continuous support of the management. He appreciated the caliber of Dr. Sundara Rajan for his achievements in CPRI as well as his ability to venture into various other disciplines of learning. He assured that, in years to come, Sahyadri will become strong in research and the impact will be visible soon.

In another separate interactive session with only research faculty, areas of research interests were discussed with Dr. Sundara Rajan. He was very impressed and encouraged the research team to apply for the funds to the CPRI and other funding agents. With the enthusiasm he witnessed with the research team, he was positive that Sahyadri can contribute towards R&D projects at the national level too.

Dr. Sundara Rajan joined Central Power Research Institute in the year 1981 and worked in the area of Electrical Insulation and Systems for more than three decades. He is head of R&D Management Division of CPRI and Centre for Collaborative and Advanced Research. He also heads the VTU Research Centre of CPRI and manages about 60 research scholars who are working for their Masters and Doctoral degrees.

Henry G. Skupniewicz of FAbLab Visits Sahyadri

Mr. Henry G. Skupniewicz visited the College to engage with the management, faculty and students in setting up a Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) in the Campus. Mr. Skupniewicz a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston, heads the FabLab in Ahmedabad.

Mr. Henry G. Skupniewicz was greeted by Mr. Johnson Tellis, Semester VIII, Electronics & Communication Engineering in the presence of Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal and Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean-Academic and the faculty members. In the session held with the faculty, Mr. Skupniewicz gave a brief introduction about Fablab, its working and the steps to setup a FabLab. The session continued with interaction with students wherein they clarified their doubts concerning FabLab and its setup and also doubts regarding higher education at MIT.

A FabLab is a small-scale workshop offering (personal) digital fabrication. The program began as a collaboration between the Grassroots Invention Group and the Center for Bits and Atoms at the Media Lab in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a grant from the National Science Foundation. The FabLab setup in Sahyadri campus will benefit the students in outsourcing their projects, help them in executing their projects and act as an online community for 24x7 support.

Management, Staff and Students Pay Homage to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

The 124th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution, was celebrated in the College on the 14th of April 2015. Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, paid his respects along with the Principal, Dean, Heads of Departments, Staff and Students of the College.

The special guest, Mr. Henry Skupneiwicz, an alumni of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA and Co-ordinator of FabLab CEPT of Ahmedabad was impressed to know about Dr. B. R. Ambedkar; a jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who campaigned against social discrimination against the downtrodden.

Ambedkar Jayanthi is celebrated every year in the College in honour of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

Dignitaries of GMIT Davangere Visit Sahyadri Campus

Mr. Pandith Jaya Prakash, Governing Council Member, GM Group of Institutions Davangere, Mr. M. Rafiq Raj, Advisor, GM Group of Institutions, Mr. H. N. Pradeep, Principal, and Mr. Rudrayya, Administrator, GMH PU College, Davangere, visited the Campus along with Mr. Geo D’Silva, VTU Special Officer for Placement and Training. The visit was facilitated by their students who visited the Campus during the Infosys placement drive and carried the message of an apt institution for the students to study. Members, GM Group of Institutions, Davanagere, responded to their request and ascertained what makes Sahyadri distinct. They said, “The Vision and Mission of this institution can be seen in the Campus. We can also see it in the infrastructure, in the students, staff and management. In eight years it has achieved stupendous growth. If this pace continues, it will fall in line with premier institutes of repute within a decade.” The visitors appreciated the overall academic ambience of Sahyadri Campus.

Fifteen Sahyadrians Recruited By HDFC Life

HDFC Life conducted a recruitment drive in the Campus for engineering students of the 2015 batch. Fifteen students have been recruited by the company.

Sahyadrians Win 1st Place in Paper Presentation Competition

Mr. Deekshith, Semester IV, M.Tech.(CADS), Civil Engineering has won the First prize for his paper titled “An Approach On Optimization Of Berth Structure At Port Sectors For Handling Bulk Cargo And Containers ” in the Paper Presentation Competition at VISION-2015; National Level Technical Fest organized by K.V.G. College of Engineering, Sullia.

Mr. Shelton Rainer Pinto, Semester VIII, Civil Engineering, won the First place in the Paper Presentation Competition at `Chakravyuh’; a National Level Inter- Collegiate Techno Cultural Fest organized by Alva’s Institute of Engineering And Technology, Mijar, Moodbidri.

Obituary

Sahyadri family deeply mourns the sad demise of our student Mr. Rathul S. A., Dept. of Civil Engineering. May his soul rest in peace and the Almighty give his family the strength to bear this loss.

Faculty Member Invited As Judge
