Sahyadri MBA Ranked 35th in Beyond IIIMs B-School Survey 2015

Sahyadri MBA has been ranked 35th, in Beyond IIIMs B-School Survey 2015, conducted by the Higher Education Review, Bengaluru. Sahyadri MBA is also featured in the top ten MBA programmes in Karnataka. The survey was conducted at national level with 4000 B-Schools participating in the survey. The five criterias used for ranking are: placement and salary statistics, research and publication, process of teaching- learning, infrastructure, and current students and admission.

Mr. Milan Samuel and Mr. Adnan Baig of The Ocean Pearl Hotel Visit Sahyadri

Mr. Milan Samuel, Front Office Manager and Mr. Adnan Baig, Assistant Sales Manager of The Ocean Pearl Hotel, Mangaluru, visited Sahyadri. They interacted with the Chairman. They were keen to see the Sahyadri Food Court and appreciated the impeccable set up, maintenance and hygiene environment. On their walk around the Campus, they were in awe of the infrastructure and its ambience.

Students of Electronics & Communication Engineering Visit BHEL

Students of the sixth semester B.E. and first semester M.Tech., Electronics & Communication Engineering, visited Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Bengaluru. During the visit, students learnt about solar cell fabrication, PCB designing and manufacturing of control systems: PLC, DCS, SCADA system and preparation of batteries for satellites. Students were accompanied by Mr. Sharath Chandra and Ms. Sreevidya, Assistant Professors, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and student representatives Mr. Ashok and Mr. Ashwin. The visit was facilitated by Mr. Babu, Executive Head, BHEL, Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director Research and Consultancy and Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

BHEL is an integrated power plant equipment manufacturer and is one of the largest engineering and manufacturing company of its kind in India engaged in the design, engineering, manufacture, construction, testing, commissioning and servicing of a wide range of products and services for the core sectors of the economy, viz. Power, Transmission, Industry, Transportation (Railway), Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas and Defence with over 180 products offerings to meet the needs of these sectors. Establishment of BHEL in 1964 was a breakthrough for upsurge in India's Heavy Electrical Equipment industry. Consistent performance in a highly competitive environment enabled BHEL to attain the coveted 'Maharatna' status in 2013. BHEL as a part of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru's vision was bestowed with the onus to make the country self-reliant in manufacturing of heavy electrical equipment. Today, with 20,000 MW per annum capacity for power plant equipment manufacturing, BHEL's mammoth size of operations is evident from its widespread network of 17 Manufacturing Units, two Repair Units, four Regional Offices, eight Service Centres, eight Overseas Offices, six Joint Ventures, fifteen Regional Marketing Centres and current project execution at more than 150 project sites across India and abroad. The total installed capacity base of BHEL supplied equipment -138 GW in India speaks volumes about the contribution made by BHEL to the Indian power sector.

“SAMSTHITA-2K15-The Skill Expo” by SAMCE and SPACE Associations

“SAMSTHITA-2K15-The Skill Expo,” a technical fest was organized by Sahyadri Association of M.Tech. Civil Engineers(SAMCE) and Sahyadri Pupil Association of Civil Engineers (SPACE) for the academic year 2014-15. Mr. Vasudev Moorthy, Head, Tools Academy, Bengaluru,the Chief Guest of the function inaugurated the technical fest.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal presided over the function. Prof. Umashanker B. S. Dean Academics and Prof. Umesh S. S., HoD of the department of Civil Engineering, the faculty members and students were present for the formal inaugural function.

Following the formal inaugural function, Mr. Vasudev Moorthy gave a talk on “Concrete - An insight into the Wonderful World” in the first session. He spoke about the practical applications of cement and concrete. Giving some live examples, he made the session very interesting. Post-lunch, he addressed the topic “Special Concretes for Special Application” which also turned out be a very interactive session.

Faculty Members of Govt. Research Centre Visit UPCL

Faculty members Dr. Ratishchandra, Dr. T. Pasang and Mr. Gurusiddayya H., Karnataka Govt. Research Centre visited Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) in, Padubidri, Udupi district, Karnataka. UPCL is a coal-based thermal power station in Karnataka, India, established in 2008. It has an installed capacity of 1200 MW from two plants. The plant is fully operational since September 2012.

During their visit, they met with Mr. P. K. Laxminarayan, Senior DGM and interacted with him about the different problems faced by thermal power plants and the research possibilities. Mr. Laxminaryan gave them a full tour of the power plant and welcomed the initiative that an academic institute has come forward to see the challenges faced by industries and to extend a hand to solve them. The faculty members also met Mr. K. Nagaraj, Deputy General Manager – HR and discussed about possible internship and a visit by Sahyadri students to the power plant visit which he generously welcomed.

Sahyadri Summer Camp Inaugurated at Meremajal Mandal Panchayat

The week-long Sahyadri Summer Camp was inaugurated at Meremajal Mandal Panchayat by the participating children. Principal Dr. U. M. Bhushi, President Mandal Panchayat, Meremajal Smt. Vrinda, and AAO Mrs. Sreelatha participated in the programme and wished all the participants luck. Resource persons engaged the children with group games, crafts, dance, and other activities.

Valedictory of Sahyadri Summer Camp-2015

The 5-day “Summer Camp” concluded at Meremajal. Twenty-two children from four different schools participated in the Camp. The students performed a play and song on Child Rights, exhibited Art and Crafts which they had prepared during the five days. The children shared their happiness in participating in the Camp. Panchayath President Mrs. Vrinda spoke congratulated the children for having participated in the Camp. Mr. Vinay T.S. and Mr. Sathya Prakash, Members of Karnataka State Trainers Collective (KSTC) and Mr. Naveen Pillar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and others were resource persons for the programme. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal wished best of luck and presented a small gift to the children and welcomed them to visit the Sahyadri campus. Mrs. Shreelatha U.A., AAO, thanked each and everyone for their kind support and co-operation.

Sahyadri Yoga Camp Inaugurated

On account of World Yoga Day Celebrations on the 21st of June 2015, a week-long Yoga Camp was inaugurated by the chief guests Mr. Srinath Hegde, Convener, World Yoga Day Celebrations, Mr. Narayan Shetty, Yoga Guru and Smt. Jayalaxmi Hegde, President Abhyudhaya Mahila Mandal, Adyar.

Mr. Narayan Shetty and Mr. Srinath Hegde spoke about the importance of Yoga in day-to-day life and explained how one can be successful in life by practicing Yoga. Smt. Jayalaxmi Hegde also appreciated the initiative taken by the management and motivated everyone to take part in the Camp.

Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal encouraged all the staff, students and residents of Adyar, to take part in the activity. Mrs. Shreelatha U. A., AAO, welcomed the gathering, Ms. Ankitha Shetty, Assistant Professor compered the program, Mrs. Nithisha Rodrigues, Director, Department of Physical Education coordinated the program and Mr. Praveen Shetty, PRO proposed the vote of thanks.

Mr. Ananth Pai of Bharath Group Addresses MBA Students

Mr. Ananth Pai, Executive Director of Bharath Group, addressed the first year MBA students on how all individuals should focus on implementing strategies and not just companies. “Strategies without execution are aimless and execution without strategy is useless” is what he quoted and informed how companies should not just design strategy, but also implement it effectively. He also explained the way in which Bharath Beedi (30 beedi) grew from a mere investment of Rs 30/- and today has diversified into several businesses like Bharath Mall, Bharath Properties, Bharath Auto Cars, Alakananda Printers, Bharath Logistics and so on. He also asked the students to grab the opportunities that come their way and involve themselves with the activities of Chamber of Commerce, Mangaluru.

Out Bound Training Programme for MBA Students

The Department of Business Administration organized a one-day Outbound Training Programme for second year MBA students at Lobo’s River View, Morgansgate, Mangaluru. The faculty members of the department, Dr. Vishal, Ms. Sushma, Ms. Gayathri, Ms. Divya, Mr. Karthik and Mr. Abhay co-ordinated the program. The one-day programme was organized with an objective to enhance team building and create team bonding. The natural environment setting at Lobo’s River View and the various outdoor activities conducted, added to the learning and fun quotient of this training. The students underwent various activities like ice breaker with “Make in India” concept, poster making with theme “Sahyadri 2020”, role plays, conflict management and games, etc. The students were able to understand the importance of learning open communication, team strategies for reaping the required results, confidence, positive attitude, building common vision, values and team spirit.

Sahyadrians Continue their Winning Streak in Systospark-2015

Students of the Department of Master of Computer Applications, participated in Systospark 2015 – an inter-collegiate fest organized by the Department of Computer Science, Mangaluru University. Best Manager, Paper Presentation, IT Quiz, Web Designing, Coding, and Gaming were the different competitions held .

Prashal I. S. and Raghavendra U. Karunakar won the First place in the Gaming Competition, Shreenidhi B. and Rajesh S. bagged the Second place in the IT Quiz Competition, and Pushpa P. and Vidhyalakshmi won the Second place in the Web Designing Competition.

VTU Youth Fest-2015: Sahyadrians Win in Competitions

The VTU Youth Fest-2015 held at Vishweshwarya Technological University, Belagavi, saw thirty-eight students of the cultural team of the College competing against 95 VTU affiliated colleges. The team participated in 23 events in the Youth Fest.

The team with Swetha, Shilpa Nayak, Agna Shetty, Harshitha, Rakshitha, Malavika, Anvitha, Athulya, Archana, Neha, Deepika, and Anuraj won the Third place in the Group Dancing Competition. In the Cartoon and Painting Competitions, Arun Naik won the Fourth place. Pavan, Anuraj, Sashwatha, Varshitha, Harshith, Disha Kottari, Navaneeth, Meghanashree, and Shereyas bagged the Fifth place in the One-Act Play. Kaushal, Anush Pai, Shreyas, Prashantha, and Prashanth S. Holla competed in the Folk Orchestra Competition and bagged the Seventh place.

Mr. Sarvesh Vishwakarma Successfully Defends his Doctoral Thesis

Mr. Sarvesh Vishwakarma, Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Investigation of Automated Video Surveillance Techniques for Human Activity Recognition & Modeling" at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Allahabad. The entire Sahyadri family and the management compliment him and wish him success in all his future endeavours.

Mr. Sarvesh Vishwakarma obtained his B.Tech. degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering from University Institute of Engineering & Technology, CSJM University, Kanpur, in 2001, and M.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India, in 2003. His research interests include Computer Vision, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, and Artificial Intelligence applied to unusual activity analysis and surveillance application. He has twelve years of teaching experience. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and a Programme Co-ordinator of grant awarded for ‘Karnataka Fund for Infrastructure Strengthening in Science and Technology in Higher Educational Institutions (K-Fist)-(Level – I)’ scheme.
