Mr. Vivek B. Singh of Procam International Pvt. Ltd. Visits Sahyadri

Mr. Vivek B. Singh, Jt. MD, Procam International Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai, accompanied by Mr. Anand Louis Menezes, Mr. Hugo Van Den Broek and Mr. Satish Pillai visited the Campus and interacted with the Chairman and the Principal. On their walk around the premises they appreciated the excellent infrastructure and ambience of the institute and were very impressed with the facilities provided at Sahyadri. Mr. Vivek B. Singh expressed his pleasure for having visited the Campus. He also added that Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, a friend of his is a visionary and his passion is obvious and visible. The students and faculty have an excellent atmosphere to study and research activities. He wished the institute and all its stakeholders the very best and prayed for its growth from strength to strength.

Procam International is a full-fledged sports management company, involved in the promotion of national and international sporting events, sports consultancy and live television programming. Procam has promoted and conducted over 45 world events in the last 23 years. These prestigious events have elicited player participation of the highest calibre, as well as huge public interest. Mr. Vivek Singh is associated with The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon and the TCS World 10K in Bangalore; three of the most prestigious distance running events in the world. They are accredited by the Association of International Marathons (AIMS).

Sahyadri Celebrates its Eighth College Day

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management celebrated its eighth College Day in the Campus. Mr. Neil Rodrigues, Senior Project Manager, Infosys Ltd., Mangaluru, was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said that he was honoured and happy to be a part of the College Day celebrations. In his thought- provoking speech he said that a lot of change is taking place all around the world; change that is good as well as bad. It is up to us to decide what change to embrace. He also said that technology too is advancing at a rapid change and it is up to every engineer present on this occasion to use the right technology and to plan their projects where it will be beneficial to society at large. He wished the students and the institution well in the future.

Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal read out the report for the academic year 2014-15 and highlighted the many achievements and accolades received by the College. He laid out the future plans for the College especially the thrust given to research and development and the setting up of the nanoscience lab and the Fablab exclusively for the students. He also declared that in the coming year, the Chairman, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary has earmarked Rupees fifty lakhs for student research projects. In his motivational speech, he spurred the students on to achieve greater heights. He thanked our Chairman, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary for his constant support and his far-reaching vision that has made Sahyadri Educational Institutions what it is today.

Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean Academic in his presidential remarks praised the students and the faculty for their hard work and dedication. He said that change is going to happen in future for which students have to be ready. He further highlighted the importance of projects and research and going forward, the institution will become one of the best in the field.

Academic toppers of each semester and Best Outgoing Students of each branch were felicitated by the Chief Guest. Mr. Gautham J. Shetty, President, Student Council welcomed the gathering and Mr. Royston D’Souza, Semester VIII, Mechanical Engineering proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Shravya, Semester IV, Computer Science & Engineering was the Master of Ceremonies. The Trustees, Ms. Deeksha Bhandary, the Management, other dignitaries, the HoDs, the faculty members, non-teaching staff and students were present on the occasion. Students showcased their talent in a scintillating cultural programme all through the day.

Ethnic Day Celebrations

On the second and concluding day of the College Day celebrations, Ethinic Day-2015 was celebrated in the Campus. Students came dressed in traditional attire. The highlight of the day was the crowning of Mr. and Ms. Traditional – 2015 which saw thirty students participating in the event.

A set of two rounds was conducted and Mr. Shelton Rainer Pinto, Semester VIII, Civil Engineering was crowned Mr. Traditional, Mr. Ajay Raj M.P., Semester II, Computer Science & Engineering was the Runner-up. Ms. Panchami Pradeep, Semester VI, Computer Science & Engineering was crowned Ms. Traditional and Saudamini, Semester VIII, Electronics & Communication Engineering was declared the Runner-up.

Mr. Karthik K., Assistant Professor, department of MBA, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Professor, department of MBA, Dr. Molly Chaudhuri, HOD, Training, judged the event. Various cultural programs and games were conducted by the students on the occasion.

A research paper titled "Fuzzy Logic Based Assessment of Periodic Variation of Water Quality of Nethravathi River in Dakshina Kannada District " authored by Shelton Rainer Pinto and co-authored by Abith G., Tukarama and Ashmy Maria Pious, students of Semester VIII of the Department of Civil Engineering has been published in the International Journal of Innovative Research in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation and Control Engineering (IJIREEICE) Vol. 3 issue 4 (special edition) with Impact Factor 1.612.

The paper is published in Google, Google Scholar, crossref, Citefactor, IIB, IJIREEICE listed in German National Library of Science and Technology, INDEX COPERNICUS, Universitat Regensburg, Citeseer, ULRICHS web, GIGA informations Zentrum, OAJI.net, TU Clausthal, UR, bing, yahoo, journal informatics, WILBERT.

“SAMSTHITA-2K15-The Skill Expo” by SAMCE and SPACE Associations

“SAMSTHITA-2K15 The Skill Expo.” and “ Kaushalya- 2K15” , a two-day technical event was organised by Sahyadri Association of M.Tech. Civil Engineers(SAMCE) and Sahyadri Pupil Association of Civil Engineers (SPACE) at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Fifty projects were put on display by all the participants of the Department of Civil Engineering of Sahyadri College of Engineering and nearby colleges. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Ranganath Aithal , Chairman, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, Mangaluru Centre. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal and Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean Academic.

Mr. Ranganath Aithal interacted with all the project teams and appreciated their ideas and efforts and gave them many more ideas for the betterment of the project.

Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation interacted with students. He also motivated them to come up with more and more ideas and continue their hardworking skill. He said that it is not academics which is the criterion to excel but along with academics, talent, intelligence and passion is very important. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal and Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean Academic interacted with the teams and also appreciated the participants for their work.

The day-long events witnessed students showcasing their talent in projects like Shilpi, the model making, Veekshana, the video collage , Anveshana, IS Code Cracking and Jnana, the quiz competitions. They had the opportunity to interact with the guests individually.

Mr. Vasudev Murthy, Head, Tools Academy, Bengaluru , gave a technical talk on the topic “Cement and Concrete “ for the Civil Engineering students of higher semesters and for first year students. He spoke about the opportunities available once they complete their post-graduation. He emphasised on the urge to learn and advised them on how to get into the civil engineering profession.

A research paper titled “Implementation of FMEA in Injection Moulding Process” authored by Shivakumar K. M. and co-authored by Hanumanthraya R., Mahadev U. M. and Kiran Prakash A. Assistant Professors, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, has been published in the International Journal of Emerging Trends in Technology, Volume 22, Issue 5, 2015. The journal is indexed by academic databases like Crossref, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and Index Copernicus.

Workshop by Corporate to Campus Team of Infosys Ltd.

Corporate to Campus Team of Infosys Ltd. conducted a workshop for pre-final year students of Computer Science & Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Electroncis & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in the Campus. They organized ice breaker and team building activities. The Infosys team addressed the students on corporate requirements, skills to be developed and various avenues of growth for freshers in Infosys.

Addressing faculty members of B.E. and MCA the team discussed ways of guiding students to avail career opportunities. They also emphasized on the scope for non-IT streams in Infosys.

Blood Donation Camp in Association with Tejaswini Hospital

The Department of Business Administration in association with Tejaswini Hopsital, Mangalore, organized a blood donation camp in the Campus. The Camp was organized to bring awareness about the importance of blood donation amongst the student community. Dr. A. P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration welcomed the gathering. Dr. Mallavi Saichandra from Tejaswini Hospital spoke about the benefits and importance of blood donation. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, inaugurated the Camp by donating the first unit of blood. In total 205 units of blood were donated by the staff and students of the College.

Campus recruitment Drive by RiiiT

Mr. Venkatesh S.V., Founder & CEO, RiiiT, Mysore and team conducted a campus recruitment drive for final year students of engineering. Twenty-one students have been shortlisted for the interview round. The final results are awaited.

Faculty selected by Steering committee of IIT Roorkee

Mr. Steven Lawrence Fernandes, Assistant Professor from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has been selected by Steering Committee of IIT Roorkee for Springer Special Session On Intelligent Soft Computing For Pattern Recognition And Medical Imaging Applications. SocProS was first held at IIT Roorkee which attracted large number of National and International Researchers. This year the 5th International Conference on Soft Computing for Problem Solving (SocPros 2015) will be held in the Saharanpur Campus of IIT Roorkee. All the accepted papers of this Special Session will be published in Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing - Springer Series (ISSN: 2194-5357) and the extended versions of the selected papers will be published in special issue of Thomson Reuters SCI International Journals. One Day Outbound Training Programme for I year MBA students

The Department of Business Administration organized a one-dDay Outbound Training Programme for first year MBA students at Lobo’s River View, Morgansgate, Mangaluru. This programme was organized with an objective to enhance team building and create team bonding. The natural environment setting at Lobo’s River View and the various outdoor activities conducted added to the learning and fun quotient of this training.

The students underwent various activities like Ice breaker with “Make in India” concept, Poster Making with theme “Sahyadri 2020”, Role plays and Conflict Management games, etc. The students were able to understand the learning importance of open communication, team strategies for reaping the required results, confidence, positive attitude and building common vision, values and team spirit.
