Mr. Bharat Lal Meena IAS Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Visits Sahyadri

Mr. Bharat Lal Meena IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of Government Education Department, Higher Education, Govt. of Karnataka, visited Sahyadri. He had an interaction with the Chairman, Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Principal, Dr. U.M. Bhushi, Officials of DTLabz, Mr. Gautham and Mr. Nishanth, regarding the education processes at Sahyadri. Having seen the institute from day one he complimented the phenomenal professional growth in eight years which is a benchmark for other growing institutes.

He specially complimented the unique initiatives of the Hands-on Experience Laboratory, concept and operational structure of Research, and the contribution of DTLabz in supporting the actual vision of the institute. Mr. Bharat Lal Meena specifically complimented the Startups established by student groups, and emphasized the need to disseminate to the rural masses. He emphasized that CSR to society should be a prime motive of education in enabling effective services through technology enablement as a technical institute.

He stressed on the responsibility of a student in the institution and how education in an institution can be improved with complete involvement using all the amenities provided to be a practicing engineer. In addition, he appreciated Sahyadri DREAMERS for their approach in nourishing more and more technocrats and also promised to connect Sahyadri DREAMERS to various industries to enhance the productivity in R&D. He emphasized the need of collaboration with all the institutes in and around and to develop an ecosystem of mutual growth and expand the horizon of working for an inclusive growth. He extended all his support for Sahyadri’s growth.

Mr. Sharath Saxena Visits Sahyadri

Mr. Sharath Saxena IPS, a former Director General of Police and currently the Chairman, Mangalore One School, Mangalore, visited Sahyadri. Mr. Saxena is an MBA graduate of the London Business School. He went around the institute and appreciated the vision of real education. He was in awe of the Hands-on Experience lab and said that it should be the basis for teaching, in times to follow. He expressed that students should capitalize on the avenues created by the institute and said, “The concept of education is learning by living life.” He complimented the management, staff and students for professionally contributing to society.

Technical Talk for Mechanical Engineering Students

Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Professor and Administrator, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management delivered a talk On Artificial Neural Network to the post graduate students of mechanical engineering. In his talk, Dr Manjunath spoke on various aspects of neural networks and its importance in the field of mechanical engineering. The talk was followed by an interactive session.

EC Students on an Industrial Visit to Indian Institute of Science Bangalore

Ninety-seven third year electronics & communication engineering students from A and B sections went on an industrial visit to National Nano Fabrication Centre (NNFC), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, accompanied by faculty members Mr. Sharath Chandra and Ms. Ashrutha.

Dr. Y. P. Prabhakara Rao, CEO, NNFC, addressed the students and explained the purpose of applications of nanotechnology and gave an introduction of various labs. The students had an interactive session with the resource person. The students visited the National Nano Fabrication Centre at Indian Institute of Science, University for Scientific Research and Higher Education, Bangalore. They had the privilege of visiting various laboratories such as fabrication lab and characterization lab. Here, they studied the various processes done on silicon wafers for the fabrication of chip design used in electronic devices. The students were guided by Mr. Jayanth G. R., Assistant Professor on lithography process. The students were also made to understand the importance of the clean room facilities and the need to maintain clean and tidy laboratories. They were exposed to various types of other labs such as lithography bay, plasma processing, wet chemical processing, diffusion and chemical vapor deposition.

Dr. Y. P. Prabhakara Rao, Prof. K N Bhat, Prof. M. M. Nayak and Prof. S. Mohan of IISc, Bangalore and Mr. Ashwath Rao, Assistant Professor SG, Department of E&C, helped facilitate the visit to Indian Institute of Science. The students also had the opportunity of visiting some beautiful and historical places of Bangalore as part of the industrial visit.

Student Association CLOUDS Organise ORPH-HELP Event

CLOUDS (Computer Legends of the Unified Department @Sahyadri); the student association of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, organised ORPH-HELP; an initiative to help the needy. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. B. S. Umashankar, Dean Academic and Prof. Sudheer Shetty, HOD, Dept. of CS&E. This was followed by a variety entertainment by students.

Valedictory of Summer Camp 2016

The five-day Summer Camp concluded at the Primary Health Centre, Meremajal. Twenty-five children from four different schools participated in the Camp. The students performed a prayer song and dance and they exhibited the art and crafts which they prepared during the five days. Prof. B. S. Umashankar, Dean Academics, appreciated the students’ interest and invited them to visit the Sahyadri campus. Mrs. Vrinda, former President of Mandal Panchayath congratulated the children for having participated in the Camp. The children also shared their happiness of participating in the Camp. Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordinator, Department of Art & Culture, and faculty members of the college were the resource persons for the programme. Mrs. Marie Fernandes, Documentation in-charge sponsored the prizes for the winners. Mrs. Nayana P and Mrs. Rashmitha G N, Student Welfare Officers thanked each and everyone for their kind support and co-operation.

Industry–Academia Interaction by MBA Department

As a part of Industry-Institute interaction, forty students of Core Finance specialization and two faculty members of Department of Business Administration visited two companies - ‘Friends Plywood Industries’ & ‘Sunshine Industry Corporation’, Baikampady. Mr. Pavanjaya, General Manager of Friends Plywood industries and his team briefed the students regarding the various functions, processes and policies of the company. The manager of Sunshine Industry Corporation apprised the students on the workflow and cost management practices of their company. This facilitated the students to understand the practical applicability of theoretical concepts.

Graphic Designing Training using basics of CorelDraw X5 Graphics Suite

Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management conducted a 15-days training on Graphic Designing Training using basics of CorelDraw Graphics Suite X5 for the non-teaching staff. Participants of the training got an in-depth knowledge of different tools and features, workspaces and capabilities of the CorelDraw Graphics Suite. They learnt how to use new features, create different types of design work and apply advanced techniques step-by-step using the tool option as per their requirement. Fifteen employees successfully completed their practical test in creating a welcome banner, a backdrop, an invitation card, a badge design and a certificate of participation for a Sahyadri College programme. Mr. Kedige Vasanth, Media Consultant, shared his experience, and explained basic tips and tricks to learn new design approaches, shortcuts, techniques and more in CorelDraw X5.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman has initiated the knowledge-based education to employees by hosting training programmes in specific skill-based training to enhance the staffs’ capabilities. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, SCEM, congratulated all the participants and wished them success in their professional career.

Canara Bank Chief Manager Felicitated on Promotion

Mr. Kedlaya H. S., Chief Manager, Canara Bank, Valencia Branch, has been promoted as AGM and transferred to their Panaji Branch, Goa. As bankers to the college for many years, Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Administrator of the college and Mr. Manjaya Shetty A., Administrator, Bhandary Foundation, felicitated Mr. Kedlaya with a bouquet of flowers and a memento. On behalf of the staff and students they also wished him all success in his new assignment.

Justdial Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Justdial conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of the 2016 batch at the campus. Mr. Anand, HR, Justdial Limited accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Thirty-two students have been shortlisted by the company to attend further rounds of the selection process.

Ethnus Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Ethnus conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of the 2016 batch. Mr. Mujthaba Waseem K, Sr Associate HR, Ethnus Consultancy Services Ltd accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Five of our students have been selected by the company.

Vantage Agora Pool Campus Recruitment Drive

Vantage Agora conducted a pooled campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of the 2016 batch at the campus. Mr. Jagadish Shetty, Head-HR and Capital Administration, Vantage Agora accompanied by the panelists on the recruitment team was at the campus to facilitate the entire process. Eleven students have been shortlisted by the company to attend further rounds of selection.

Faculty Member Elevated to IEEE Senior Member

Dr Jose Alex Mathew, HOD, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering has been elevated to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. Only 9% of IEEE's around the world hold this grade. It requires extensive experience and reflects professional maturity and documented achievements of significance.

A research paper titled 'Students t-test to assess the role of aptitude classes for Placement among Engineering students' authored by Mrs. Mitra, HOD, Department of Mathematics, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department of Business Administration and Mr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, has been published in the International Journal of Research in Economics and Social sciences, Volume 6, Issue 3, ISSN No- 2249-7382 with an impact factor of 6.225 which is indexed by Thomson Reuters Researchers Indexed Journal.

KSRTC Express and Limited Stop Buses to stop at Sahyadri Campus

Mr. Chandrashekar, Divisional Traffic Controller, KSRTC, Mangalore, has permitted all Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Express and Limited Stop buses to halt for passengers to board and alight from these buses at the Sahyadri Campus with immediate effect.

Pool campus recruitment drives for the engineering graduates, and many other competitive examinations such as CET, COMEDK, KPSC, GATE, and banking examinations are conducted at Sahyadri Campus, Adyar, Mangalore. The students and the public can now enjoy this facility without having to depend only on private buses.
