Dr. Karisiddappa, Vice Chancellor - VTU, Belagavi visits Sahyadri Dr. Karisiddappa, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi visited Sahyadri & interacted with students & staff members.

Firstly, it was a great opportunity for the students who achieved in IIT’s and NIT’s to present their achievements with respect to Robotics, Motorsports & Aerophilia & also their growth story in front of the Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Karisidddapa while addressing the gathering expressed his views that one should have passion for learning followed by continuous exploring. He also mentioned that Learning is a never ending process, it strengthens the fundamentals. Technology which is learnt in the curriculum is precise, however there are many more aspects to be covered and one should aim to be an expert in this era of Inter-disciplinary sector. Engineers must learn not only in class-room but also involve in R&D through projects in order to face challenges & utilise the widespread opportunities. He appreciated the efforts of the institution and was amused to see the ideas & actions that he planned for the institutions already existing & being practiced at Sahyadri.

Dr. Karisiddappa, Vice Chancellor - VTU, Belagavi visits Sahyadri He also quoted Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation as the best example for being a “Successful Entrepreneur”, having long term vision and systems in place. He emphasised that being an engineer won’t suffice the need; however one should be engineered to be an engineer which makes them productive to the society.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary in his remarks reiterated that the motto of Sahyadri is to set high standards hence our student’s achievements in IIT’s & NIT’s have knocked loudly. Dr. Karisiddappa is a student of Dr. D L Prabhakara, Director, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, hence while giving the Vote of thanks, Dr. D L Prabhakara, going back to his memories, acclaimed that Dr. Karisiddappa was humble & a hardworking student and has helped many in need.

Mr. Sanjay Sahay, ADGP, Karnataka Police speaks to faculty members and students A session on “How to connect Content, Teaching and Requirement” was facilitated by Mr. Sanjay Sahay, ADGP, Karnataka Police. Mr. Sanjay Sahay, a Pro Public Speaker, Senior Police Officer, Reflective Practitioner, Technology Evangelist, Management Guru, Thought Leader & a Writer is a Cyber Security Expert who being from a History background groomed himself to be an IT expert. In his talk, he referred to Role Models like Steve Jobs & Bill Gates and urged the participants to inculcate their values and thought process in our daily living. He stressed on the issue of “Educated Unemployables” and the role of Teachers in this challenging situation of meeting the talent requirements. He emphasised that as Teachers, our priority should be on developing Content for the curriculum rather than delivery of the content. He said Curriculum & Content work in synergy as the Teacher’s role would be to transform the intangibles into tangibles. He also encouraged the teachers to upgrade the quality of teaching pedagogy year after year. Content comes into LIFE through the expertise and competency of a teacher and one should use innovative pedagogy so that it reaches the student. He also expressed his finding that “Anything done without passion is better not done” and also “Anything done that cannot be measured is again better not done”. He stressed on the importance of evaluating self on the Learning Life Cycle as to which stage we are in amongst – Data Stage, Information Stage, Knowledge Stage or Wisdom Stage and accordingly upgrade ourselves to the next level.

Guest Talk on “MBA and beyond the success factors”

MBA and beyond the success factors by Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean - Academics and Professor, SDMIMD, Mysore Dr. R. Jagadeesh, Dean - Academics & Professor, SDMIMD, Mysore addressed the 1st year MBA students on the topic “MBA and beyond the success factors”. In his session, he urged the students to think differently from several angles & capture situations from various perspectives. He also re-iterated to grab opportunities when it knocks the door as it knocks only once hence the best day to start any work is today and the best time is now. He emphasised on the importance of creativity and innovation which is largely demanded in the current business scenario, however it is easier said than done to be innovative. To inculcate creativity, one should look at the nature and note down the things that they see and think creatively beyond the limits. He mentioned that as students it is important to balance risk and reward.

His talk was focussed on the critical success factors -Knowledge, Skills & Attitude. He concluded the session inspiring students to develop the right attitude which shall pave the way to success.

Industrial Visit to Manipal by MBAs Under the mentorship of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Prof. Ramesh K G and Prof. Girish M, 35 students of First Year MBA visited Manipal Technologies and Best Sellers Apparels Pvt Ltd to gain practical exposure and enhance their knowledge about operations of the organization.

Mr. Raghuram Raj, HR Business Partner of Manipal Technologies, arranged for their company tour & explained the various stages in their printing process. He gave an insight about the organisation and answered queries that came from students. Manipal Technologies Ltd is now serving customers across the Globe and is having units in all metro cities in India, Kenya, Nigeria and Germany.

Industrial Visit to Manipal by MBAs Students also visited Best Sellers Apparels Pvt Ltd, a leading apparel manufacturing unit based in Manipal. Mr. T Sachin Pai, Managing Director, Best Sellers Apparels Pvt Ltd explained the process of manufacturing of garments. Best Sellers Apparels has 4 Factories in and around Manipal with a total of 1500 people, shipping 2.5 Million pieces of Denims/ Jeans per annum. The company manufactures Denims across Men's, Women's and Children's range of Clothing. The organization has a capacity to take an output of around 8000 Jeans per day. The current clientele includes brands like Pepe, Diesel, Benetton, Killer, Levis, Spykar, Mufti, US Polo, Li Fung etc. Students spent quality time learning the different aspects of operations in these two organisations.

Industrial visit to Web Namaste and Baabtra, Calicut A total of 41 students from the sixth semester ‘A’ section of Information Science & Engineering accompanied by Prof. Prakhyath Rai and Prof. Sweekriti Shetty visited Web Namaste and Baabtra, Calicut.

Delegates of Web Namaste gave an insight of the work culture of the company. The company was established in the year 2009 & is mainly based on digital marketing. There are around 22 employees currently working & they provide services on Search engine optimization; Inbound marketing, Mobile App Development etc. The company comprises of two teams - Design development team and Web development team. Leaders of both the team interacted and introduced their teams to the students. Students had queries regarding internships and recruitment which was also addressed.

Mr. Deepak K C of Baabtra, an IT training company, interacted with the students and briefed about the company. The company was started in the year 2011 & was launched initially as a Training Centre. They provide internships on any latest technology. They mainly focus on identifying, training and placing quality freshers from regional colleges and institutes. Students interacted with the employees and put forward some of their queries.

PEOL Technologies Pvt. Ltd. conducted recruitment drive	PEOL Technologies Pvt. Ltd. visited Sahyadri to conduct pool campus recruitment drive for the engineering students of 2017 batch. 28 students from pool colleges were part of the recruitment drive. Mr. Hemanth Kumar, Sr. Manager accompanied by Mr. Gautam Kumar, SAP Technical consultant, Mr. Dhiraj & Mr. Ganesh on the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the entire recruitment process.

CV Writing Workshop facilitated by the MBAs	In addition to being on top of university curriculum, Sahyadri MBA gives experiential learning opportunities to students which provide them plenty to talk about in job interviews. It also gives them a chance to take the theories & strategies they have learnt in the classroom and put them into practice.

CV Writing Workshop facilitated by the MBAs Akshatha Nayak & Arpitha Kulal from the second year MBA facilitated a CV Writing workshop for the first year MBA students. These real-world opportunities take our students beyond the classroom. Their session covered - the mandatory components in a CV, a sample format, DO’s and DONT’s in drafting a CV. They also re-iterated that the HR Recruiters are keen on knowing facts which are not mentioned in the CV. Workshop concluded with the Q&A session. As a follow up action, first years will send the first draft of their CV’s to the seniors who will then revert with corrections if any, before preparing the Final CV.

Similarly, Aptitude Test, GD Round and Face2Face Interview rounds will be conducted by the final year MBA HR students for the 1st year students of MBA. This shall expose the first year students to their forthcoming Job interview process in return shall also contribute to polishing the HR skills of the final year students.

MBA Faculty qualify in KSET

Prof. Mithun Ullal, Department of Business Administration has successfully cleared the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) 2016 thus qualifying for Lectureship / Assistant Professor.

MBA - HR Students conduct Aptitude Test for 1st year MBA In continuation to the CV Writing Workshop facilitated by the Final Year students of HR specialization, they also conducted Aptitude Test for the 1st year MBA students in order to put the theory they learnt regarding “Recruitment Process” into practice. This has exposed the first year students to the Aptitude Test pattern that will appear during their first round of Job Interview and the HR students have gained confidence in executing recruitment process confidently in their future job role. 30 students from the 1st year have been short listed for the next round of interview - Group Discussion which will be held this week.

Tanushree D Pal M, a student of second semester Information Science Engineering has excelled in sports. She has participated in various swimming competitions held at State & National Level. She has also won 1st place in Badminton tournament held at District Level.

K.A. Vardhan, a student of second semester Computer Science Engineering is a State Level Table Tennis player. He has also participated in various Cricket & Volley-Ball tournaments held at State & District Level.

Guest Talk for the MBAs by Asst. Manager - Marketing, MAX Mr. Shivaprasad Ramarao, Assistant Manager - Marketing, Max, a fashion brand, had an experience sharing session with the First Year MBA students. Shivaprasad manages 10 stores in Karnataka out of which 2 stores are based in Mangaluru which is directly managed by him. During his talk, he informed the students to focus on applying the theory into practice. He stressed the importance of logical thinking and practicality in business. He talked about his journey from his MBA days at AIMIT, Mangaluru to the days when he began his career in a small company in the field of advertising & marketing as he was very keen to pursue his career in this area. He asked the students to solve as many case studies as possible during their course of study as it helps an individual not just to cultivate the habit of reading but also to enhance the ability to think logically. He even mentioned that he has still kept the record of all the case studies facilitated by his faculty Prof. Girish M during his MBA days which comes to help now, in solving real business problems.

Currently, 11 students of first year MBA are working with Mr. Shivaprasad on a part time internship project. He has also expressed his willingness to provide more internships or projects and for activities related to industry-academia interface.
