Institution of Engineers India (IEI) team visit Sahyadri

Institution of Engineers India Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Accreditation Committee visited Sahyadri and viewed all the departments and interacted with faculty, students and Alumini. The Accreditation committee was headed by Chairman Dr. Channakaiah, Professor & HoD- Mech, Adhiyamaan College of Engineering.

Other members of committee were Dr. K. Thangaraj, Professor, Department of IT, Sona College of Technology, Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Professor & HoD, Vemana Institute of Technology, Dr. Kodanda Ramaiah G.N, Professor & HoD –E&C, Kuppam Engineering College and Dr. S Suresh Babu, Dean (R&D), Adhiyamaan College of Engineering.

The committee appreciated the holistic development of the institute and had words of praise for the unique practices of Sahyadri.

Dream initiative of “Congress Bhavan” at Shimoga of Sahyadri Chairman,
Mr. Manjunath Bhandary realized

Congress Bhavan at Shimoga Congress Bhavan Shimoga is the brainchild of Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, in his constituency. It is one of the top Congress offices with nearly 10,000 sqft of built up area. The dream was realized by its launch through Honourable President, All India Congress Committee Sri. Rahul Gandhi on 3rd April 2018. Inauguration was in the August presence of Honourable Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka Sri. Siddaramaiah, Shri. Mallikarjuna Kharge, Shri. D. K. Shivakumar, and Dr. G. Parameshwara of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), other leaders and party workers of Congress.

Congress-Bhavan-at-Shimoga Congress-Bhavan-at-Shimoga Mr. Rahul Gandhi has been one of the major contributors in the establishment of the Congress Bhavan. He lauded the professional accomplishment of the work initiative of Mr. Bhandary and the efforts in its successful completion of the Congress Bhavan, thus applauding the good work of party workers.

Sahyadrians compliment our Chairman and our sincere wishes and hope to see him as a frontier of change in political arena too.

Inauguration of GAME JAM 2k18

Inauguration of GAME JAM 2k18  Inauguration of GAME JAM 2k18 GAME JAM 2k18, 24 hr Hackathon event organized by the Department of Information Science & Engineering in association with Juego Studio, Students Technical Association of Information Science & Engineering (STAISE) and NAIN was inaugurated by Mr. Suman Balakrishna, CEO Juego Studio and Mr. Abhijith Shetty, VP – Delivery, Juego Studio. The ceremony was presided by Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Prinicpal and Dr. Shamanth Rai, HOD, Dept. of Information Science & Engineering. In his inaugural address, Mr. Suman gave an insight into the $45 Billion Gaming Industry. He stressed that students should develop Entrepreneurial skills to enter this industry. This was followed by a presentation about the company - Juego Studio. A total of 23 teams comprising of 100 students from Sahyadri, JNNCE Shimoga, MITE Moodbidri and PACE Mangaluru are competing in the event. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- and consolation prize of Rs. 5,000/-.

Caliper machined the First Titanium Component

Caliper-machined-the-First-Titanium-Component It’s a milestone day for Caliper, a Mechanical Engineering Start-up Company in Sahyadri. First Titanium component is machined at Caliper, which is to be supplied to Nuclear Power Corporation India Ltd. Titanium machining is complex & tricky, as it heats up fast resulting tools wear out fast & possibility of fire, while doing high speed machining. Caliper successfully manoeuvred this difficult task & completed the machining. Next step is to machine other components on this project & assemble the product, which is an import substitution to originally supplied product from Russia.

Caliper is equipped with CNC machines, Robotic welding station, 3D measuring equipment & high end metrology / NDT equipments for inspection / testing. It caters to niche markets like ISRO, Defence, Nuclear etc apart from imparting hands-on industrial training to mechanical engineering students.

Both are the old students of Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA & Dr. Rashmi Kodikal, Professor, MBA Department. Mohammad Naveed is the CEO & Co Founder, Intignis Consulting Dubai, UAE. He is an MBA specializing in Finance and currently pursuing Professional Post Graduate in Private Wealth Advising from University of Oxford.
Ms. Janet Naveed is the Head –HR, DynCorp International (US Federal Defence contracting company) FZ-LLC in Dubai. She is an MBA specializing in Human Resource Management. She is a Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma Black belt certified professional.

He encouraged students to set short term goals to achieve the ultimate goal. He highlighted the importance of connecting and socializing with people as it is a key to career building. As a first step to Job opportunities in Dubai, one should have his/her passport done. He referred to websites that can give information on the Background, Culture and policies of Dubai and insisted that students go through it before applying for jobs in Dubai. He also emphasised that MBAs should be more confident as they have a highly valued degree in hand. He also gave information on VISA, leads for Accommodation while trying for job, Job consultant details and websites to apply for Dubai Jobs. He concluded his session by mentioning that students should read the life story of various CEOs and every story has a takeaway which they should learn from.

Third Batch of faculty underwent a Three-Day Worksop at RIMSE, Mysore

Three-Day Worksop at RIMSE, Mysore Three-Day Worksop at RIMSE, Mysore The first day at Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE), Mysore started with a session on the topic "Educational Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda" by Swami Shantivratanandaji which brought out the difference between literates & education. It also threw light on the current education system scenario & also highlighted the ethics and values to be followed.

This was followed by the session on "From a Good Teacher to a Great Teacher” by Sri. D. T. Ramanujam, Proprietor, Focus Academy, Mysore. The session dealt with how a teacher can influence leadership quality, confidence, and enthusiasm in students with the extraordinary traits possessed by the teacher.

The afternoon's session was on "Need for Self Awareness” delivered by Sri Satish H L. The session intended towards knowing one’s self, one’s potential, one’s habits, thoughts & goals which would help in bringing out the best within self.

Day Two started with prayer followed by Yoga. The morning session was by Col Mahendra on “Past, Present & future of Siachen Glacier”. This session inspired the participants that one’s belief towards the country levelled up to a higher extent & boosted patriotism towards the nation. This was followed by a session on “Capable Teacher- Confident students”, by Mr. K P Pradyumna, which shared the importance of teachers in everyone’s life and the impact on the same on one’s career path. The Evening session was by Mr. Suresh on “Constitutional Values” though was a dry subject was made very informative & interactive by the speaker.

The third day of “Orientation Course in Values Education” workshop started with Museum visit, which displayed the whole culture of India’s life and literature. The visit enriched the participant’s knowledge and learning.

The third day’s key note speaker was Maheshatmanada Swamiji, Correspondent, Ramakrishna Institute of Moral & Spiritual Education Centre, Mysore. This included information about Ramakrishna Mattha, their practices, process involved in selecting/training monks, centres of Mattha across the globe. He explained about life with simple examples and quoted that water is for fish and land is for selfish. He motivated participants by sharing anecdotes and referring to Mr. Harakhchand Savla, who has been selflessly serving cancer patients and striving hard to make life easier for the patients and their families. The workshop concluded with presenting a report on the Three-Day workshop.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Kamai Elevators Private Limited

Campus-Recruitment-Drive---Kamai-Elevators-Private-Limited Kamai Elevators Private Limited visited Sahyadri to conduct a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. A total of 78 students attended the drive, out of which 20 students were shortlisted. The final results are awaited.

First year engineering students volunteered for Swacchata Abhiyan Awareness programme” The students of First year engineering volunteered for door-to-door awareness building programme initiated by Ramakrisna Mission, Mangaladevi about solid waste management and cleanliness at Upper and Lower Bendoorwell. The Students accompanied by the volunteers of Ramakirshna Mission went to all the commercial places, shops and vendors and distributed solid waste management awareness pamphlets and requested them to play their part in making India clean. The programme was arranged by Ramakrishna Mission in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Mr. Umanath, Coordinator of Swaccha Bharat Mission and other members like Swami Vinoda Maharaj Ji, Mr. Suresh Shetty and Mr. Abhishek accompanied the students along with Ms. Shreelatha, Academic Administrative Officer, Prof. Shoban, Dept. of Computer Science, Ms. Savita Rai, Student Welfare officer and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor.

MBAs conduct Training Programme at BGS School Kavoor As an Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR), 3 students from first year MBA– Shreya, Shilpa & Ankitha had been to BGS School Kavoor, Mangaluru to conduct a training programme for students. The prime objective of the training was to guide them through different activities on teamwork, confidence building, time management and stress management. Students were also given opportunities to showcase their talents. They conducted activities such as Memory Game & Pick and Act. During the course of Training MBA students have learnt that each child is unique. What is learnt with pleasure is never forgotten. If a child can't learn the way we teach, a teacher should teach the way they learn things.

Sahyadri Alumnus receives Rs. 10 Lakhs worth of Scholarship per year to pursue Masters Degree in Germany

Mr. Akshay R Bhandary, Mr. Akshay R Bhandary, an alumnus of Mechanical Engineering 2012-16 Batch is awarded a scholarship of Rs. 10 Lakhs per year from Devaraj Urs Foreign Education Scholarship sanctioned by the Dept. of Backward Classes Welfare. The scholarship was awarded to him on merit basis as a support to pursue his Masters Degree in “Sustainable Systems Engineering” at Albert Ludwigs University, Freiburg in Germany. Mr. Akshay is the son of Mr. Ramesh A Bhandary, Accountant at Bhandary Foundation. Sahyadri Family congratulates both for the remarkable achievement.

In his address, he mentioned that LIGO's discovery means a lot of things to the astrophysics community; it might actually be the beginning of a new era. He also visited the in-house industries and Start-ups and appreciated the efforts of management.

Sherwin Pinto, Final year Mechanical Engineering student has participated and won in various Inter-collegiate Cultural, Technical & Management Fests in “Battle of Bands” event. He secured Runners up in “Incredia 2018” at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, First place in “Adrenaline 2018” at Father Muller College and also won First place in “Sentia 2018” at Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering, Moodabidri.

First year engineering student wins Best Paper Presentation award at IIT, Roorkee

Ms. Basava Rajeshwari Ambi of 1st year Information Science & Engineering received 1st prize for her Paper Presentation titled “TEACH, - How to Improve Indian Education system using Technology”, in Cognizance -2018 held at IIT-Roorkee, Uttarkhand. She received a sum of Rs. 10,000/- as cash prize. She also participated in other events such as Yin-Yang, Unheard-IITR & Cyborg Break In.
