Ambedkar Jayanti, a Tribute to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar celebrated at Sahyadri Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated every year at Sahyadri with great enthusiasm in order to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and his immense contributions for the people of India. The programme formally commenced by paying homage to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar by garlanding and lighting candle. This was done by Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal; Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean-Academics, Mr. Devadas Hegde, Trustee along with faculty, non-teaching staff and students.

Dr. B R Ambedkar paid his major contribution by protecting the Fundamental Rights (for the social freedom, equality and eradication of untouchability for low group people) and Directive Principles (enhancing the living status by securing the fair distribution of wealth) of State Policy in the Indian Constitution. He continued his social revolution till the end of his life through the Buddhism. He has been honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1990 for his big contributions towards the Indian society.

Senior scientist of DRDO visits Sahyadri Senior scientist of DRDO visits Sahyadri Dr Ramakrishna A. from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) visited the Sahyadricampus. Dr. Ramakrishna A. is the Head of Research Appliances and Senior Principal Scientist (Food Engineering&Packaging), DRDO, Ministry of Defence. He had a fruitful interaction with faculty and students about innovative mechatronics technology and management.

Dr Ramakrishna has 34 years of wide experience in the development of polymer composites,food processing on functional, nutritional foods, its process and packaging systems. He has developed innovative food engineering systems with polymer composites,demonstrated and installed for use in high altitude locations, deserts, naval ship galley, Marcos and Commandos. He was honored with Best Scientific Worker-1988, DFRL, DRDO and DFRL-DRDO Scientist of the Year awardsin 2011.

Dr Ramakrishna is of the belief that education should be action oriented and research should be converted into beneficial products for armed forces and civilians. Further, he has expressed his willingness to mentor any faculty or studentswho wish to seek his support from ideation to product.

Moolathva Foundation members visit SahyadriMoolathva Foundation members visit Sahyadri Rtn.PrakashKotian, President of Moolathva Foundation along with his team of trustees and members visited the campus and interacted with the MBA students. The studentshave been invitedby the Moolathva team to the upcoming Moolathva Awards to be held on 15thApril 2018. At this Awards event, Mr. T. Raja, Founder of New Ark Mission Bengaluru, who ispopularly known as Auto Raja, will be felicitated with the Moolathva.During the interaction, Principal Dr. U.M. Bhushi shared somestories about the people who serve the society and encouraged the students to do their part for the society.

A video of the life and works of AutoRaja was presented to the students along with the videos of other extraordinary people who have rendered incredibleservice to the society. RtnPrakashKotian spoke to the students about the Moolathva Foundation and invited all the students and their family to attend the upcoming Moolathva Awards.

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi completes 7 years as Principal at Sahyadri

Dr. Umesh M Bhushi With great joy, Sahyadri congratulates Dr. Umesh M Bhushi for completing 7 years of service as a Principal at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. Under his leadership, Sahyadri has soared to great heights in its achievements. Dr. Bhushi, with his vast experience as a teacher, as an academician and an able administrator has brought innovations which has made Sahyadri a pioneer in innovative teaching and learning. Dr. Bhushi, a Doctorate from prestigious IIT, Kharagpur has guided more than 8 students for their PhD and 4 among them have already been awarded with the Doctorate degree. He has published more that 80 papers in International Journal and has also written books on TQM. He has been a resource person for over 150 talks and seminars held across the country. He has held positions and is also a high profile member in various committees and Boards of prominent Educational Institutions and Government Departments. Dr. Bhushi has spearheaded many of the innovative programmes and projects in our college such as - Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt, Sahyadri Project Support Scheme and many more. Through his charisma and excellent networking skills our institute is now connected with many of the prestigious institutions and industries all over the world. We are indeed very fortunate to have such a dynamic person leading us from the forefront as the Principal. Sahyadri family congratulates our Principal Dr. Umesh M Bhushi for completing successful 7 years in this institution and wishes him and his family the very best of all the happiness they desire.

AEnCES organised an Orphanage visit AEnCES organised an Orphanage visit A visit to an orphanage is a life changing experience as it is filled with emotions and sentiments.
StudentAssociation of the Department of Electronics & Computer Engineering organized an orphanage visit in Jeppu, Mangalore. Sahyadriansgot the opportunity to mingle with the students of Infant Mary Convent School. There were around 58 students out of which 28 are orphans. The age group of children ranged from 7 to 12 years. The children gave a warm welcome by way of a beautiful song. The session started with fun filled warmup exercise. For the Craft Session groups were formed and craft paper and stationary wasdistributed.At the end of the sessionsweets were distributed. Students handed over the groceries contributed by them and the faculties along with the charity box set aside for this noble cause, to the school staff.

A Day with Kids made a big difference. The students of ECEthankedtheHoD and also Mrs Leena,Headmistress, Infant Mary’s Convent School for giving them this opportunity to visit the orphanage and interact with the kids.

GAME JAM 2k18 – 24 Hr Hackathon Concludes GAME JAM 2k18 – 24 Hr Hackathon Concludes GAME JAM 2k18, a 24-Hour Hackathon event was brought to a successful conclusion. The valedictory programmewas presided over by the Juego Studio Team namely, Mr. SumanBalakrishna, CEO; Mr. AbhijithShetty, VP – Delivery, as well as Dr. ShamanthRai, HoD, Dept. of Information Science &Engineering.

The event witnessed many creative and innovative games being developed by the budding engineers. Hackathon had 3 themes for game development namely – Finish Line, Target and Color. Participants were free to choose the theme of their choice. The list of winners is as follows:

Sahyadrians organize “ARPAN-2K18”

ARPAN-2K18 On behalf of Computer Legends of the Unified Department at Sahyadri(CLOUDS), the student faculty association of the department of Computer Science & Engineering,an event “ARPAN-2K18” was conducted. Thirty-five events were conducted with a view to raise funds for donating to orphanages in and around the city. The chief guests of this prestigious event were Mr.EzzEldin, Professor,Faculty of Electronics Engineering,Menofia University, Egypt andMr. Mohammed Aljunid, Professor,Thamar University, Yemen.Currently, both Prof. Eldin& Prof Aljunid are research scholars in Mangaluru University.

The guests visited all the startups in the incubation centre and were highly impressed with the support provided in Sahyadri. They were inspired by the infrastructure and are planning to implement a similar model in their respective countries.

Prof. SudheerShetty, HoD, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) in his presidential address appreciated the efforts of CLOUDS and the support of all the faculty members in raising the funds. The CLOUDS team comprising of Mr. ShishirShetty, Vice President, Mr. ShaileshShetty, Staff Coordinator and Ms. SupraviRai, General Secretary, were present on this occasion.

Student Counsellor invited as a Resource Person by St. Philomena College, Puttur

Student Counsellor invited as a Resource Person by St. Philomena College Mr. Ankith S. Kumar, Student Counsellor, accepts an invite from St. Philomena College, Puttur to be a Resource Person. He conducted a session on “Family Planning and Birth Control Methods” for undergraduate students of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW).

MrAnkith spoke about the importance of family planning, birth control measures and sexually transmitted diseases. He also stressed on the need for spreading awareness about family planning among common people. The session was well received by the students of St. Philomena College, Puttur.

MBAs conduct an Employment Training Programme at GFGC, Udupi The faculty and students of Dept of Business Administration were invited by the Placement Cell of Govt. First Grade College (GFGC), Shankaranarayana, Udupi to conduct a half day Employment Training Programme for the final year B.Com and BBM students.Prof.PadmanabhaBangera and Prof.PrajwalaPreemaRodrigues along with MBA students facilitated the training programme. The key topics wereResume Building, Group Discussion and Interview Skills for students. The training programme made a positive impact on the students and also on the faculty.

While sharing feedback the GFGC students said that they had absolutely no knowledge about interviews, group discussion or about resume building. But having attended this training programme they feel that they are now well equipped with tips on how to attend an interview and could face an interview with positive energy and confidence.

Fourth batch of Sahyadri faculty at (RIMSE), Mysore In a series of batch-wise training programs conducted by Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE) for Sahyadri faculty, the fourth batch is now attending the current training program. The first day started with a session on the topic "Educational Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda". The session was conducted by Swami Shantivratanandaji and it brought out the difference between literates and the educated. It also threw light on the current scenario of education system and also highlighted the ethics and values to be followed.

This was followed by the session on "From a Good Teacher to a Great Teacher” by Sri. D. T. Ramanujam, Proprietor of Focus Academy, Mysore. The session dealt with how a teacher can influence leadership quality, confidence, and enthusiasm in students with the extraordinary traits possessed by the teacher.

The afternoon's session was on "Yogic Walk towards Total Wellness” delivered by DrRaghavendraPai. The session intended towards knowing the importance of yoga in our daily life.

Mandovi Motors Pvt Ltd. Mandovi Motors Pvt Ltd conducted a Campus Recruitment Drive for the Mechanical engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch. Mr. Oliver Rodrigues, Sr. In-House Trainer accompanied by Mr. Suraj Sapalya, Asst. Manager HR from the recruitment team were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 87 students attended the drive & the results are awaited.

Diya Systems  Diya Systems conducted a Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2017 & 2018 outgoing batch. A five-member recruitment team headed by Mr. Shrinivas Bhat, Sr. Manager HR, Ms. Samriddhi, HR Executive, Mr. Vinay Bangera, Training Manager, Ms. Maithri Rao, HR Executive & Ms. Vijayalakshmi, HR Executive were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 139 students attended the drive, out of which 26 students were shortlisted & the final results are awaited.

Three-member recruitment team headed by Mr. Vidhyaranya K, Sr. Manager, HRand accompanied by Mr. Madhusoodan Raj, Product Owner and Mr. Avinash, Module Lead were at the campus to facilitate the entire process. A total of 86 students attended the drive and the results are awaited.

Librarian successfully defends PhD Thesis

Bharathi K Mrs. Bharathi K, Librarian, Central Library, successfully defended her PhD thesis titled "Digital Libraries in Engineering Educational Institutions in Karnataka State: An Analytical Study” at PRIST University, Thanjavur, Tamilnadu. The research work was guided by Dr. Sujatha H R, Librarian (S.G), Sri VenkataramanaSwamy College, Bantwal. In her public defense, the external examiner was Dr. L N Umadevi, Associate Professor,Annamalai University.

Mrs. Bharathihas expressed her profound gratitude to Sri. ManjunathBhandary, Chairman, Trustees, Director, Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff and the entire Sahyadri family for their constant support and encouragement for the successful completion of her PhD.

Sahyadrians visit Infosys, Mysuru
An industry visit to Infosys, Mysuru, was organized for 110 students (6th Semester) and four faculty members from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. During this visit the students and faculty interacted with Infosys employees. They also attended a session by an Infosys trainer on the Campus Connect Program of Infosys. The Infosys employees praised the Sahyadri Project Support Scheme which helps to bridge the gap between Industry and Academia.

Infosys Mysuru is a training hub where the newly recruited graduates from across India get trained. Infosys Mysuru has two global education center buildings each of capacity 9500 and 4500 respectively. It provides different facilities like multiplex, playground, canteen and swimming pool to their employees and trainees. Students had a great opportunity to tour the Infosys campus and see all these amenities.

A four-member recruitment team headed by Ms. Priyanka(Lead Recruiter), Mr. Sriram Murthy, Mr. MuraliBalasubramanyam and Mr. Kaushal were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 320 students attended the drive and the results are awaited.

Day Two started with the same vigour and spirit as Day One. Prayer was recited and this was followed by Yoga. Col Mahendradelivered the morning session on “Past, Present and future of Siachen Glacier”. This session inspired the participants and boosted their patriotism towards the nation. This was followed by a session on “Capable Teacher- Confident students”, by Mr. K P Pradyumna. This session shared the importance of teachers in the life of every individual and their impact on one’s career path. The evening session by Mr. Suresh on “Constitutional Values” though was a dry subject, was made very informative and interactive by the speaker.

The third day of the “Orientation Course in Values Education” workshop started with museum visit, which displayed the whole culture of India’s life and literature. The visit enriched the participant’s knowledge and learning.

The key note speaker of Day Three was MaheshatmanandaSwamiji, Correspondent, RIMSE Education Centre, Mysore. This included information about Ramakrishna Mattha, their practices, process involved in selecting/training monks, centres of Mattha across the globe. He explained about life with simple examples and quoted that water is for the fish and land is for the selfish. He motivated participants by sharing anecdotes and referring to Mr. HarakhchandSavla, who has been selflessly serving cancer patients and striving hard to make life easier for the patients and their families.
The workshop concluded with presenting a report on the Three-Day workshop.
