Mr. Anantha V, DGM ROK, The Printers (Mysore) Pvt. Ltd., Heading the Sales Division of Deccan Herald, Bengaluru, and Mr. Jaiprakash from DH Mangalore Division visited Sahyadri Campus and interacted with Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal and Mr. Vasanth Kedige, Media Consultant. Chairman Mr Manjunath Bhandary guided him around the campus and visited the innovative labs, the in-house start-ups and the student-centric initiatives from Dreamers and Challengers. Mr Anantha appreciated the holistic development of the institute and congratulated Mr Bhandary for the Initiation of the Sahyadri Project support Scheme (SPSS) and Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) Programme.

Moolathva Vishwa Awards - 2018
 
Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal was invited as the Chief Guest for Moolathva Vishwa Awards - 2018 held at Sharadha Vidyalaya, Mangaluru. This year the Moolathva Vishwa Award was conferred to Mr. T Raja, popularly known as Auto Raja – Founder of New Ark Mission, Home for the Destitute at Bengaluru. Moolathva Vishwa Awards is the brain child of Moolathva Foundation Charitable Trust (R) founded by Mr. Prakash Moolathva and this award is given to exceptional people who have done extraordinary work for humanity across the world. This year Mr. Auto Raja was chosen for this award in recognition for his selfless service to the poor and destitute through his institute called New Ark Mission in Bengaluru. Mr. Raja is a living legend who provides food and shelter for more than 10,000 street dwellers. Raja’s “Home of Hope” is a place of solace for the people who are suffering from aids, cancer and other severe ailments. Recognising his selfless contribution to the society he has been conferred with awards like Rajyothsava Award, CNN IBN Real Hero Award, Philips Bravery Award, Kempe Gowda and Namma Bengaluru Awards etc. This year, he has added another feather to his cup with Moolathva Vishwa Awards.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi expressed his heart felt appreciation to Mr. Raja and said that he is an example of a true living God and that there can be nothing more divine than his work. Dr. Bhushi expressed his concern over how our society has lost its meaning of Humanity and forgotten their responsibility towards elders and helpless. He was grateful that people like Mr. Raja bring back the lost hope in humanity through their deeds. Dr. Bhushi compared Mr. Raja to the Sea of Galilee, as an example of how service to others can bring abundance to self. He also had the honour to felicitate Mr. Raja along with other dignitaries like Shri Sharanagowda G Patil, MD, Karnataka State Souhards Federal Co-operative Ltd, Bengaluru; Prof. M S Kotian, KMC Mangaluru; Dr. Leela Upadhyaya, Academic Advisor, Sharada Group of Institutions, Mangaluru and Dr. Shiva Sharan Shetty, MD-Namma TV, Katalysts Productions Pvt. Ltd, Mangaluru.
After felicitation, Mr. Raja interacted with the Sahyadri MBA students. Prof. Gayathri Shetty, Prof. Mithun Ullal and Prof. Prajwala Preema Rodriguez from the Department of Business Administration; Ms. Shreelatha U A, Academic Administrative Officer, Ms. Rashmitha Girish Nishal, Student Welfare Officer and Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor from the Academics Department were also present to witness this event .

They were at 7th place in Oral Presentation & 6th place in Payload Lifting.

Ms. Swathi Rai from Placement Department participated in the 3rd London International Conference on Social Science & Humanities (ICSSH) in Imperial College of London, South Kensington campus organised by GAHSSR. She presented a paper on "Indian Education System, the Sister Nivedita way" and won the Best Paper Presentation Award.

Mr. S M Sultan is also a Director, Purvanchal Gramin Bank, Under the SBI, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India. Toastmaster International’s Fusion 2018, Joint Area Contest conducted at Sahyadri
The first ever Joint Area Contest, Fusion 2018 of Area F1 and F2, of Mangalore region of Toastmasters International was conducted on Sunday, 15th April 2018 at the Sahyadri campus. The finalists of the seven clubs of the two areas contested in both the Speech contest and the Table topics Contest. DTM M N Pai, CA, and Director of Achal Industries was the Contest Chair. Dr S Ramakrishna Sharma honoured during National Seminar in BHU, Varanasi
Dr S Ramakrishna Sharma was invited to present a research paper on “Technology for Ayurveda: A Reappraisal of the Present Scenario”, during the Two-Day National Seminar in Benares Hindu University, Varanasi, organized by Department of Rachana Sharir, Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU. Many dignitaries appreciated interactions with Dr Sharma. Select eminent professors and researchers of Ayurveda were honoured by Prof. Dr. V K Shukla, the Director of Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU. Dr Sharma was honoured with Sankatamochan Hanuman memento, Silk Shawl and Certificate of Honour for his research activities in the field of Vedic Science. In 2015, Dr Sharma had won the first prize for best oral presentation (among 237 papers) during International Conference on Kundalini and Psychosomatic Disorders, held as a part of the Centenary Celebrations of BHU. He pointed out the potentials of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru which has initiatives like RDL in innovative pursuits of technology for Ayurveda with Language Appropriate Technology (Sanskrit) and Machine Learning. “The best from the past and the best from the present for Better Future” is a slogan echoed in his presentation.

MDP on “Pathway to Future Excellence” for MBAs
A Management Development Programme for the MBAs was organized by the Dept. of Business Administration focussing on three main domains in MBA – Finance, Marketing & HR. This programme was organized to assist the first year MBA students in choosing their specialisation to be pursued in their final year. The programme included Experts from industries & the Sahyadri Alumni sharing their experience and giving inputs in helping students to choose their specialization from HR, Marketing & Finance.
During the Day One of the programme, the morning session was on Finance Specialization and the resource persons - Mr. Pradeep Suresh, Director-E&Y; Asif Chowgule, Asst. Manager-E&Y; Mr. Murlidhar Bhat, Canara Bank Manager, Adyar Branch & the Alumnus of Sahyadri who is now a teaching faculty at Sahyadri MBA – Prof. Chandrakanth Shettigar addressed the students on the various sectors which offer career in Finance, the reality of Finance as a job, the additional competencies to be developed to be placed in a highly demanded Finance profile and also about the salary package that can be expected. Several queries related to the challenges in pursuing career in Finance were also answered.
Afternoon Session was on Marketing Specialization and the resource persons – Mr. Darshan Jain, Managing Partner, Ace Promoters & Developers; Mr. Darryl Correa, Manager Sales, Manipal Technologies & Mr. Musheer Rizwi, Proprietor, Nilgiris Super Market (Alumnus) addressed the students on the importance of Marketing in career and life, requirements to pursue Marketing in terms of Skills, Knowledge and Attitude, the challenges and means to overcome it and also how Marketing helps to be an Entrepreneur.
 
Day Two of the MDP was on HR specialization and the resource persons – Mr. DheerajShetty, HR Manager, JBF Ltd, Mangaluru; AbhaBhagroy, Founder, Gen Y Consulting and SamriddiNaik, HR Executive (Alumna) addressed the students on the transformational role of an HR in comparison to the traditional role, Streams of HR like Talent Acquisition, HR Operations, L&D and HR Business Partner in which candidates can pursue their career in, Current HR job market situation due to automation, Importance of Analytics in HR and also the various skills an individual should possess to excel as an HR professional.

Valedictory Function of ISE Department Association STAISE
The Valedictory Ceremony of the Department of Information Science & Engineering (ISE), AssociationSTAISEwas held.
The Chief Guest of the event was Ms. PragathiNayak, Corporate Trainer, Clear Water Inc. She also happens to be the alumni of ISE. In her key note address she inspired the students to be entrepreneurs. She also stressed on the skill sets such as good programming, communication etc. required to sustain in the job market. Dr. ShamanthRai, HoD, ISE, read the Annual Report of the Department. Prizes were distributed for the various events organised by STAISE. Mrs. Ramya BS, Faculty Coordinator of STAISE, rendered the Vote of Thanks. The inauguration was followed by cultural events, where the students exhibited their talents.

Sahyadrians win at Technical Fest
Students from Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), won the first place for the project paper titled “Intelligent Diagnosis System” under the guidance of Mrs.Akshatha D. Assistant Professor, Dept. of ECE at Thantrajna-18 and Vision-18, National level UG and PG Tech Fest organized by KVG College of Engineering, Sullia. Ms. Raina H. Coelho and Ms. Ravali G. are the winners. More than 15 colleges participated in various technical events. Amongst these, Sahyadrians took part in E-SAMALOCHANA (Paper Presentation) as a part of E-CONGREATION-18 of the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The thesis entitled - "Factors Influencing Bangalore Amusement Parks Visitor Brand Switching Behaviour based on Visitor Perception” was accepted and recommended for the award of PhD Degree. M.Tech Students visit Bridge Construction Site near Alake
Department of Civil Engineering organized a site visit for 1st and 2nd Year M.Tech students of Structural Engineering and CADS. Students were briefed about the structural analysis and design principles involved in the construction of bridges. The bridge site is located near Kudroli temple, Alake, and is constructed as a part of infrastructure development by Mangalore City Corporation. Dr. Premanand Shenoy is the structural consultant.
Mr. Nandaneshwar, Project Manager accompanied the students and faculty members to the site. The others who accompanied them were MrDevraj, Mr. Yashwanth Kumar, A.E.E and Junior Engineers, Mr. Krishnananda Reddy, Mr. Ganapathi and Mr. Laxman Poojary.
The site visit was organized by Dr. Premanand Shenoy as a part of Industry Connect Programme of the Institute with a view to expose the students to real construction of bridges. Prof. Sunil Kumar K., HoD, and Prof. Deepthishree S.A., Department of Civil Engineering were the faculty who accompanied the students.

MBAs attend the Graduate Summer School (GSS) 2018 at IIM Ahmedabad

IIM Ahmedabad had organized a One-Week Graduate Summer School (GSS) 2018 to encourage students in learning and networking. Varun K and Kshama Hegde from the Second year MBA – Finance attended the Summer School. This programme was structured to empower young minds with various management sessions which were mainly taken by the FPM community students of IIMA with a few sessions administered by esteemed faculty members too. Participants even had a session facilitated by the guest faculty from Harvard Business School. The sessions were planned with assignments, and pre-reads for the next day. Students had a great exposure into the tradition of IIMA, be it the classroom whereabouts or the campus infrastructure. Participants were also given opportunity to explore their business plan on the last day of the programme.
On successful completion of the programme, all the participants were awarded with the certificate which was certified by IIMA & CIIE.
Alumnus interacts with Civil Engineering Students
 Mr. Chinmay Bharan, an alumnus from the Department of Civil Engineering and currently working in Gardencity Reality Private Limited, Bengaluru interacted with the students of Civil Engineering. He shared his experience and advised the students to groom themselves to meet the needs of the industries. He emphasized students to harness soft skills which are pertinent to deal with work. He recalled his days as a student at Sahyadri and gave inputs on how involving in the college activity has helped him in his professional career. He also encouraged students to take up the internships to get exposed to real time construction works which in turn helps them in better placement.
Campus Recruitment Drive - Cubiccode Digital Media LLP
Cubiccode Digital Media LLP conducted the Campus Recruitment Drive for the Engineering students of 2018 outgoing batch at our Campus.
