Sahyadri First Semester B.E. Results at 88.03%

VTU results of First Semester B. E. are declared. Out of 727 students who appeared for the VTU Examination, 640 students have passed. A total of 345 students (47.33%) secured First Class with Distinction (FCD) Grade. Out of 18 Engineering colleges of Mangaluru region, Sahyadri topped once again with an aggregate result of 88.03%.

Dept. of Computer Science Engineering felicitates Ms. Pavithree B Shetty Ms. Pavithree B Shetty, an alumna of Sahyadri, First Rank holder in Computer Science and Engineering and the beneficiary of 4 Gold Medals from VTU was congratulated for her extraordinary accomplishment in academics. Dean Examination – Prof. Sudheer Shetty and Dr. J V Gorabal, Head of CSE Department felicitated her for the outstanding achievement. She was one the best outgoing students of CSE Department during her course of engineering at Sahyadri. She got placed in Moonraft Innovation Labs with a package of Rs. 8 lakhs per annum.

Department of Computer Science Engineering organized “ARPAN-2K19”

ARPAN-2K19 ARPAN-2K19 Computer Legends of the Unified Department at Sahyadri (CLOUDS) of Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering organized an event “ARPAN-2K19”. More than Forty events were conducted with a view to raise funds for donating to orphanages in and around the city. Ms. Pavithree B Shetty, an alumna of CSE who secured 1st rank in VTU with 4 gold medals was the Chief Guest of the event. While addressing the gathering, Pavithree said that one should be passionate about their dreams to achieve it. She also re-iterated that we can make most prominent heights of success by focusing towards our goals. Dr. J V Gorabal, Head of Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) in his Presidential address appreciated the efforts of CLOUDS and the support of all the faculty members and students in raising the funds. Prof. Sudheer Shetty, Dean-Examination addressed the students. The CLOUDS team comprising of Mr. Krithesh Bhandary, Vice-President; Ms. Pooja N S, Staff Coordinator and Ms. Souravi, General Secretary were present on this occasion. Formal event was followed by cultural programme.

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized OFF ROAD ROBO 2019

OFF ROAD ROBO 2019 OFF ROAD ROBO 2019 The Department of Mechanical Engineering organised “OFF ROAD ROBO 2019” an Intercollegiate Robot Racing Competition. The event saw participation of over 25 teams from six different colleges and provided students an opportunity to showcase their technical skills in the field of Robotics.

The event was inaugurated by the proud Sahyadri Alumni Ms Ramya K., Asst Mechanical Engineer, KSRTC, Mangaluru and Ms. Saksha Shetty, Engineer, Autoliv, Bengaluru. In her inaugural address, Ms Ramya spoke on the importance of gaining deeper insights in the field of Engineering. Ms. Saksha spoke on the opportunities and challenges facing women in the field of mechanical engineering. Prof Ravichandra K., Head, Dept of Mechanical Engineering presided over the function.

Mr Kiran Prakasha, Assistant Professor coordinated the event.

Sahyadri pledges to Vote Sahyadri pledges to Vote To encourage active participation in the process of democracy, all the students with teaching and non-teaching faculty took an oath to participate whole heartedly in the election and cast their vote without any coercion or external influence. They also took the pledge to spread awareness about election and encourage others to vote.

Industrial Visit for Pre-final Year Civil Engineering Students Industrial Visit for Pre-final Year Civil Engineering Students An industrial visit was organized for the students of VI Semester Civil Engineering. On Day 1, students along with four faculty members visited T K Halli Water Treatment Plant at Mandya. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) at T K Halli is the premier governmental agency responsible for sewage disposal and water supply to the city of Bengaluru. The officials of BWSSB explained to the students various aspects regarding Cascade Aerators, Sedimentation Process, Flash Mixing and Disinfectioning Process. The Plant In-charge briefed the students on plant history and explained that it is Asia’s biggest water purification plant with five stages of purification and pumping along with conventional and latest technology as its unique and exclusive mode.

Day 2 was started with a visit to Karnataka Engineering Research Station (KERS), KRS Road, Mysore. KERS has diversified its research fields in irrigation structures, hydraulics, soil mechanics & foundation engineering, coastal engineering, and technical services. Through these divisions this Research Station has solved many civil engineering problems faced by field engineers as and when referred by project authorities. KERS is also imparting training for capacity building to in-service engineers and administrative staffs of State Water Resources Department, Karnataka Public Works, Ports & Inland Water Transport Department and other State departments.

In addition to the research activities, KERS has also been offering the guidance to the students from different engineering colleges along with lab facilities to enable them to complete their project work as part of their curriculum. The students had a chance to visit the labs in the research station and interact with the officials based on various fields of research in civil engineering domain. Later, students visited The Krishnarajasagara Dam, KLRS, Mysore. Here they had an opportunity to interact with the officials of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd., and gain information pertaining to the various operations of dam, its conveyance sections, technical details, dam maintenance etc. Students then visited Venugopalswamy Temple, a rehabilitated structure in the KRS backwaters and gathered information regarding rehabilitation process which is implied in the field of civil engineering.

Mechanical Engineering Department organized a Seminar on “Occupational Health and Safety in Industries"

Occupational Health and Safety in Industries Occupational Health and Safety in Industries Mechanical Engineering department organized a one-day seminar on “Occupational Health and Safety in Industries" for Sixth Semester and selected Eighth Semester students of mechanical Engineering. Capt. Ramprasad, Director and Mr. Ramesh Babu, Managing Director, Call for Safety and Quality Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Mangaluru, were the resource persons. In two separate sessions, each of them explained about the importance of safety in day today life, industries, working areas, domestic places etc. Opportunities for mechanical engineering students in the safety fields such as marine, chemical industries were explained in detail. They also mentioned about the various certification courses which will help for placement activities.

Prof. Ravichandra R., Prof. Mahesh B. Davanageri were also part of the seminar. Mr. Kiran Prakasha, Assistant Professor organized the seminar.

Three-Day workshop on Cadence Tool for the students of Electronics Three-Day workshop on Cadence Tool for the students of Electronics A Three-Day workshop on Cadence Tool was conducted for the second year and third year students of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The main aim of the workshop was to give an insight on cadence tool and ignite the interest of students. This session was organized in view of the future demand for the tool.

Morning session involved briefing about basics of Analog electronics, Digital electronics and the tool. Theory and practical sessions on schematic, simulation and layout concepts on VlSI was performed in the afternoon session. The sessions were very interactive. A total of 105 students benefitted from the workshop which was facilitated by the Student trainers - Arpita, Veekshitha, Priya, Punya, Ranjith, Hamdan and Savitha.

Faculty & Students of MGM College, Udupi visited the Start-up’s & Industries of Sahyadri A total of 200 students along with 8 faculty members from MGM College, Udupi visited Sahyadri. To begin with, they had a presentation on “Life at Sahyadri” facilitated by the students of MBA Department. Later, they were given heads up on the in-house Start-Ups and Industries by faculty and and students of MBA Dept. Post this, the students were escorted to the start-ups & industries and they were able to experience in reality what they had heard about Sahyadri from various sources.

Amazon conducted a Recruitment Drive for the BSC and General Graduates at Sahyadri. Mr. Murali Manoj R., L4- Recruiter from Amazon was at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 46 students participated in the drive.

Campus Recruitment Drive Ethnus conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for students of all branches of B.E 2019 Batch. Mr. Narthan Poovanna, HR Executive facilitated the process. A total of 158 students from various colleges in DK and Udupi Districts participated in the drive. Results are awaited.

Campus Recruitment Drive Jaro Education conducted a Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for students of all branches of B.E and also MBA students of 2019 Batch. Ms. Oshin Verma Campus Ambassador - HR was at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 219 students from various colleges in DK and Udupi Districts participated in the drive and the results are awaited.

Sahyadri First Campus Recruitment Drive - VIVO VIVO was at Sahyadri to conduct the Pool Campus Recruitment Drive for the outgoing batch of MBA. A total of 190 students from different colleges had participated in the drive, out of which 3 students namely, Christal Dsouza from HR, Likitha P and Mohammad Jabeer from Finance have been shortlisted for the final interview round.

Workshop on Web Development, Python and Machine Learning at Sahyadri Dreamathon - Mangalore’s largest coding Hackathon organized a workshop on Web Development, basics of Python and Introduction to Machine Learning at Sahyadri to the enthusiastic technocrats from in and around Mangaluru region. The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Sachin Ganesh, CEO of Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd, Founder of DSI and Ms. Divya Kulal, Co-founder of DSI on Web Development and Mr. Suraj Shettigar, Software Developer at DSI Labz and Mr. Subramanya C, Technical trainer at DSI Labz on basics of Python and Introduction to Machine learning.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Diya Systems

Campus Recruitment Drive - Diya Systems Diya Systems conducted a Campus Recruitment Drive for the engineering students of 2019 outgoing batch. A four- member recruitment team headed by Ms. Samriddhi - HR Executive (Alumna of Sahyadri MBA); Mr. Ebinezar Rata - Assistant Manager Recruitment; Mr. Santhosh Bhat - Trainer/QA Auditor and Mr. Nithesh Kumar - Trainer were at the campus to facilitate the process. A total of 135 students attended the drive and the results are awaited.

Campus Recruitment Drive - Amazon India

Campus Recruitment Drive - Amazon India Amazon India conducted a pool campus recruitment drive for all the branches of 2019 outgoing engineering batch. A total of 181 students from various colleges in DK & Udupi District participated in the online test and 67 students were shortlisted for further rounds of interview. This drive was for the position of Customer Service Associate (VCS).

Android 101 workshop conducted by DSC

Android 101 workshop conducted by DSC Developer Student Clubs (affiliated to SOSC) conducted their first workshop on Android application development, to introduce the students to the application development world. Developer Student Clubs train thousands of student developers globally and work with their communities to solve real-life problems.

Google collaborates with university students who are passionate about growing developer communities and supports them with starting student clubs on their campuses.

DSCs provide students with the opportunity to:
• Grow their knowledge on developer technologies and more through peer to peer workshops and events.
• Gain relevant industry experience by solving problems for local organizations with technology based solutions.
• Showcase their prototypes and solutions to their local community and industry leaders.

The Android 101 started with the basic introduction to the Android Studio followed by the application development. Around 25 students attended the workshop. The students interacted with the speakers and learnt to build Android Application.
