A Consultancy project on Technical Audit of Marine Export unit at TADADI, U.K District was undertaken by Dr. Rajesha, Dean-Academics as a Principal Investigator; Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director-Research & Consultancy as the Coordinator; Dr. Ravichandra K R, Head of Dept of Mechanical Engineering as the Co-Principal Investigator; Prof. Ajith B S, Dept of Mechanical Engineering as the Faculty Coordinator. This consultancy was offered by Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC), Mangaluru, a Govt. of Karnataka undertaking. The total project of Marine unit is worth Rs. 10 Crores and Rs. 2 Lakhs has been received as Consultancy fee for this project.

Dr.Vittal Prabhu, Penn State University, US visits Sahyadri Dr.Vittal Prabhu, Penn State University, US visits Sahyadri Dr.Vittal Prabhu, Professor, Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Director, Service Enterprise Engineering (SEE 360) an Initiative of Penn State University, United States of America, visited Sahyadri. He held an interactive session with the engineering and management students on the teaching learning process in the US. He explained as to how the students were able take up social issues, find solution through case studies and innovative methods. He explained as to how creativity is going to be the key differentiating factor while explaining the top skill sets required for workplace success by 2020.

Mr. Prabhu also interacted with the chairman and discussed about the collaborative work that our faculty and students can take up with the Penn State University. He visited in-house industries and appreciated the management efforts in embedding industry culture in the educational institution to make students industry ready.

Achievements of Sahyadri students at IIT Roorkee

Achievements of Sahyadri students at IIT Roorkee Team ‘Udam Clan’ of Sahyadri comprising of students from various engineering disciplines, participated in Technical Fest Cogizance 2019 held at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. This Fest saw the active participation of 23 students.

Cognizance is the largest technical fest in India that conducts 75+ events with over 30,000 participants. Dr. Kailasavadivoo Sivan, Chairperson – ISRO, presided over as chief guest and inaugurated the fest. Sahyadri students bagged 4th place in Event Poseidon, 5th place in Cyborg Break-In, and 10th place in Quadrone. They also participated in Productathon. The students also attended the World Quant Championship Workshop on learning how to build an ‘Alpha’.

The students who participated in the event were Anjana Hegade, Ananya P.J., Ashwitha, Ancita, Anusha, Ashitha, Deekshith, Dhanush Bangera, Jamsheedha, Kritika, Mayur Pai B.H., Neeraj, Neeharika, Poornima, Rahul Mogar, Shraddha, Shreya, Shreerekha, Sebastian, Shishir Alva, Tanuja and Yashas. The team was mentored by Basavarajeshwari Ambi(IS), Campus Ambassador IIT-Roorkee.

Sahyadrian selected as GITHUB Campus Expert

Shashank S from 2nd year Information Science & Engineering has been selected as the Github Campus expert after clearing several rounds of interview. He is also one of the community leads of Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) – Technical club of Sahyadri which is affiliated to Developer Student Club by Google, Mozilla campus club.

SOSC aims to create a student community to promote technological research and development. SOSC conducts technical workshops to upskill the students and provide necessary introduction to technologies in collaboration with student clubs.

A Campus Expert is a student trained to build a strong technical community in campus. Campus Experts have access to resources and support from GitHub, such as swag, sponsorship, and the opportunity to attend events like GitHub Universe. What started out as a way to encourage students to become advocates for GitHub is now a much broader initiative that starts with an eight-week training programme and features students from across the globe. As part of a network of technology leaders at universities around the world, the campus experts will receive training and mentorship from GitHub employees, opportunities to participate in exclusive events, and support to help grow the local student developer community.

JavaScript and Node.js workshop organized by SOSC

JavaScript and Node.js workshop organized by SOSC Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) in association with NodeSchool Mangaluru hosted a one day workshop on JavaScript and Node.js.

JavaScript is one of the most popular and in-demand programming language, with the world's largest developer community. The language also has numerous use cases, ranging from building interactive websites to server-side applications.

The workshop led by SOSC members saw active participation of 40+ students from Sahyadri, Canara Engineering College and PA College of Engineering. Students were able to learn JavaScript language and build Web applications, Command Line tools and Web Servers using JavaScript and Node.js.

MBA Faculty & Students attend ‘NIPM Regional Conference for Students’

MBA Faculty & Students attend ‘NIPM Regional Conference for Students’ National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Mangaluru Chapter organized a ‘Regional Conference for Students’ and arranged talks from eminent personalities who focussed on current trends and needs of the students. Sahyadri MBA Department has an institutional membership with NIPM and has organized various events collaboratively in the past. Five of the students along with Prof. Sushma V from the Dept. of Business Administration-MBA attended the conference.

This conference not only gave insights on topics related to – ‘Employment Avenues & Preparedness’, ‘Drive for Entrepreneurial Success’ and ‘Competency – Driving Leadership & Performance’ but also gave an opportunity to network and build connections with the HRs of various organizations who are also the members of NIPM. Later this month, a Workshop on ‘Writing Research Papers’ would be organized by Sahyadri in collaboration with NIPM for the Faculty & students.

Mr.Vishal Krishna, AVP-Operations, EPS (P) Ltd visits Sahyadri Mr.Vishal Krishna, AVP-Operations, Electronic Payment and Services (P) Ltd, Mumbai visited Sahyadri and interacted with the representatives of in-house companies and startups. Electronic Payment and Services (P) Ltd. is a leading Retail Banking Technology Service Provider founded in 2011.

Mr.Vishal Krishna appreciated the effort of management to provide hands on experience for both faculty and students. He was truly impressed at the growth of Sahyadri in such a short span of a decade. He acknowledged that Sahyadri is one of the best education institutions in the country with unique identity in the field of education.

Hon Advisor at NSDC interacts with the Faculty Mr. Venkatesh S.V., MD and CEO, RiiiT, Mysore who is also the Hon Advisor at National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) visited Sahyadri and held an interactive session with the faculty and staff. He expressed how excited he was to visit the innovation labs and in-house start-ups and industries established inside the campus. He was amazed on seeing students working in these industries and exhibiting hands-on ability in the area of student’s interest. He even appreciated the round tables installed in the study area and had words of praise on how comfortably a student was teaching her peers on a particular concept. He gave heads up on NSDC, its role and its future plans related to Skill India. He encouraged faculty to upload proposals on NSDC website for setting up a Skill Centre at Sahyadri.

Sahyadri Alumnus is 31st Seer of Udupi Putthige Mutt Sahyadri Alumnus is 31st Seer of Udupi Putthige Mutt Prashanth Acharya an Alumnus of Sahyadri is ordained to Sanyasa and will be the successor of Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji, Senior Seer of the Udupi Puttige Mutt. By this ordination, he will become the 31st Seer of the Mutt and will be known as Sushreendra Tirtha Swami.

Prashanth Acharya was a student of the first batch of Electronics & Communication Engineering. Through campus recruitment he got placed in HP. He also worked for Cognizant and Ericsson. But his calling was different. And he obeyed this calling and is now committed to a consecrated Hindu religious life.

Sahyadri held a felicitation ceremony for the Seer on his having received Deeksha (consecration). Prof. S.S. Balakrishna - Vice Principal, Prof. Ramesh K.G. - Dean Strategic Planning, Dr. Ashwath Rao, HOD – Department of Electronic & Communication and Prof. Girish Madla, Asst. Professor – SG, were present on the occasion.

Vision test and free consultation by doctor & ophthalmologist were provided. More than 450 participants benefited from this camp.

Sahyadri Alumna addressed First Year MBAs An alumna of MBA, Ms. Neema Shetty addressed the First Year MBA students. She is currently working as Technical Recruiter for Ian Martin, Bengaluru.

Ms. Neema spoke in detail about her job and also about the incentive system in Ian Martin and shared her knowledge about the beneficiary of the company. Adding on to which she also shared the challenges which she faced during the interview and gave students tips on how to build an effective resume.

It was a fruitful session and the students got immeasurable value from their interaction with the alumni.

His talk was related to his industry experience, challenges he faced and the learning he obtained. He urged the students to take up specialisation based on thier interest and potential. He motivated the students to involve themselves in extra curricular activities for their overall development.

Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director-Research & Consultancy was invited by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), New Delhi for a presentation on the Application for fresh recognition of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru as a Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) is a department of the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

The project report was prepared by Dr. Rajesh Shetty and Dr. Ratish Ghatti of Mechanical Engineering Department under the guidance of Dr. S Manjappa, Director (R&D).

Librarian conferred with the Doctorate Degree from Mangalore University Ms. Shwetha Kumari K, from the Sahyadri Central Library has been conferred with the Doctorate Degree at the 37th Convocation held at the Mangalore University. The title of her PhD thesis is - “Information literacy skills among research scholars and faculty members of engineering college libraries of Coastal Karnataka: A Study” which was carried out under the guidance of Dr. T.Y. Mallaiah, Deputy Librarian, Mangalore University.
